Exploring the World of Thra in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, Available Now on Xbox

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is now available for purchase on the Microsoft Store!

The world of Thra was first introduced in Jim Henson’s
groundbreaking 1982 movie, “The Dark
Crystal,” and was the backdrop of the critcally-acclaimed Netflix
Original Series, “The Dark Crystal:
Age of Resistance.” In The Dark
Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics (DC: AoR Tactics)
, each of Thra’s
environments introduces unique game mechanics to consider in your strategy.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

To build your team, you’ll recruit heroes from the
seven Gelfling clans spread across Thra. BonusXP’s designers incorporated the
unique features of each Gelfling homeland into the tactical encounters set
within each biome. These features may act as hazards to the unprepared, but
also can be used as advantages.

Ha’rar

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

The Vapran citadel in the northern mountains is home to one of our heroes, the bookish Brea, and artisans of many types. Players can find tomes, potions, and other useful items in the battles set in this region.  Characters claiming these items during a mission can heal wounds or temporarily boost Stats and abilities.

Caves of Grot

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

The dark and maze-like caves of Deet’s home are illuminated by glow moss along the walls and colorful glowing runes on the cavern floors. The runes are Stat boosters. Both allies and enemies can take advantage of Attack, Magic Power, or Evasion buffs when they’re standing on a rune.

Endless Forest

Our third hero, Rian, makes his home in the forest. Unfortunately, so do the Gobbles! This dangerous giant creature lives below the forest and often breaks through the ground. While characters can move through the pit of undulating snapping stalks, remaining in the Gobbles will immediately deal massive amounts of damage. Tread carefully!

Sifa Coast

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

The terrain in DC: AoR Tactics has multiple levels of verticality. As you might expect, several abilities take advantage of higher elevation, but many missions on the Sifa Coast make elevation even more important. Rising and ebbing tides make water levels rise and drop, which in turn makes less or more navigable terrain available. It’s quite rewarding to trap an opponent on a lower elevation when the tide is about to come in.

Crystal Desert

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

The Crystal Desert is hard to navigate, in part due to the dangerous sandstorms that blow through the area. These sandstorms take their own turn during missions, catching allies and enemies alike and pushing them across the terrain. Elevation can help or hinder the effects, depending on where you stand.

Swamp of Sog

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

The swamps are home to the Drenchen Gelfling. Higher elevations are important here as the lowest terrain areas are filled with poisonous swamp water. Swamp water won’t affect anyone passing through it, but it will poison anyone who remains standing in it at the end of their turn. Poison damage persists even after leaving the swamp water, so avoid standing in or getting pushed into it.

Spriton Plains

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

The tall grass in the Spriton Plains prevents characters standing in it from being targeted by ranged abilities. This can be a blessing against arrow-shooting enemies but trying to hide there isn’t always the wisest action if you’re low on health—most healing abilities are ranged abilities.

TERA: Justice, Injustice, and Tiny Tales of Woe

It’s no secret that I love playing brawlers in TERA. And with the release of the Fists of Justice content update, I get to add another race/class combo to my stable of fighters—the popori brawler—and I’ll be punching like mad to get him up to max level to take on one of my favorite dungeons: Antaroth’s Abyss.

TERA

Spoiler Alert: In my previous Xbox Wire article, I talked about the Red Refuge and its complicated web of relationships and TERA lore. Antaroth’s Abyss picks up minutes after you report to your superiors about what you saw while cleaning out the refuge, and in a completely unexpected turn, you find yourself accused of the very wrong you just righted!

TERA

You’re ordered to report to Antaroth’s Abyss to be judged for your “crime.” And while this is a completely optional assignment, the opportunity to punch some big bosses and clear your name (including a final encounter with some particularly brutal tactics) isn’t one you’ll want to miss.

TERA

It’s actually the dungeon’s second boss, Kalioth the Executioner, that really sells Antaroth’s Abyss for me. As a brawler, you’re always in the thick of things, and can take hits no other class can. My popori lancer has spent a lot of time staring at huge BAM feet in his career, and my new popori brawler will need to widen his focus to accommodate the Kalioth’s complex left-and-right attack patterns. Guessing wrong could mean game over for you and your group, but the many defensive options in the brawler’s attack set give you a little more leeway than other tanking classes.

TERA is a new breed of MMO, blending True Action Combat with the vast game world and deep social interactions of a role-playing game. In TERA, you aim, dodge, and time your attacks for an intense and rewarding tactical combat experience. TERA’s expansive content is totally free to play, from character creation all the way to level 65 and beyond. True. Action. Combat—Experience an MMO with non-stop, pulse pounding action. In TERA, it’s your skill and positioning that determine whether you live or die in battle. Epic Encounters—Team up with friends to take down Big-Ass Monsters in menacing dungeons and open world hunting zones, or put your PvP skills to the test against other players in one of the many battlegrounds TERA has to offer. Vast Fantasy World—With seven character races and ten playable classes, you can customize your character to match your individual playstyle. You’ll embark on thousands of quests in a game world rich in history and lore, fighting a myriad of monster types across a variety of landscapes such as arid deserts, icy tundras, sweltering jungles, and many, many more. No Restrictions— TERA offers a truly free-to-play experience, with no artificial cap on classes, zones, what you can do, or how good you can be—all the content in the game can be experienced without paying a single penny. To support the continued development of TERA, we offer account services, cosmetic items, costumes, accessories, weapon skins, mounts, and more for purchase from an in-game store. A World of Fellow Players—Whether you fight as part of a guild or are content to make friends (and enemies) along the way, being part of TERA’s vibrant community means there is always someone to share your adventures. Retooled for Consoles— Featuring an interface redesigned and optimized for game controllers, TERA offers an immersive MMO experience from the comfort of your living room couch!

There are a few more things to unpack in this update, but being able to combine my “most fun” options like this has me really excited to play a new character. I just hope I can get his ears to flop the right way…

Monster Energy Supercross 3 – Special Edition Available Now on Xbox

While planning the development of Supercross 3, we listened to the feedback of our community and we added several features that fans of the series have been asking for.

First things first, let’s talk about the gameplay. In a sport like Supercross, the bikes spend a lot of time in the air. Thus, after considering what was done in the past and what we wanted for the future, we have been working to deliver a new kind of in-air physics that gives player more freedom and control of what happens during jumps, in order to give them a more fun feeling in the game. This big change we’ve made has big consequences on how the players face all the jumps of the tracks. Trying to keep the momentum going and avoiding bad landings is now crucial for the players if they want to be consistently fast. In Supercross 3 the player can now move the rider around all the three-rotation axis, being able to perform rotations and other kind of movements that in the past weren’t possible. Thanks to this, a more expert player can recreate more spectacular and fluid movements.

Monster Energy Supercross 3

For the single-player, Supercross 3 has all the classic game modes: single race, time attack, championship and career, with all the official tracks, rules and sessions and almost 100 riders of three different categories to choose from. Moreover, for the first time in the series, Official Teams have been added to the game. Having the chance to use a player’s custom rider and join some of the biggest names in the Supercross world has always been one of the most demanded features by our players. This year this request has been satisfied, giving the game a new layer of depth in terms of realism.

Speaking of multiplayer, another request by our players was in the domain of online performance and overall experience. By adding dedicated servers for the game, we are finally offering the players what they have been asking for, an online experience with less latency and disconnections. So, it will be only a matter of skills, no more “I lagged” excuses! This new technology allowed us to experiment with new game modes, such as the new free roaming co-op mode and some other mini-games to play online with friends. Because, you know, sometimes also the pros need to take a break from the heat of the races.

Monster Energy Supercross 3

And what is more relaxing than a reckless race in the sunny landscape of Southern California? In Supercross 3 we have designed a new compound, inspired by the real one used by the bike manufacturers to test their bikes. In addition to the online mini games mentioned above, the players can use this area to prove their skills with five different challenge modes, or to race on seven SX tracks and a MX track.

And if you think you need more tracks, you can always use the track editor to make your own or download one made by other players. With almost 100,000 tracks uploaded in the last installment of the Supercross game, we are sure you will find something to suit your taste also in Supercross 3. We even gave you the ability to turn into sand almost any of the modules of the track editor, so you can really get creative!

Monster Energy Supercross 3

Supercross has always been a predominantly male discipline, but in the last years the number of women between fans and athletes has increased significantly. The Supercross Championship organizers, teaming up with their sponsors, has launched the #MAKEUP2MUD hashtag to promote a series of video episodes focused on spotlighting the many ways women are impacting the world of motocross both on and off the bike. We wanted to embrace this initiative and support all the female fans out there, giving them the opportunity to create their own virtual avatar as a female rider, with a brand-new set of 3D models, animations and customization.

Xbox Battle Predicts the 49ers to Win the Big Game as Richard Sherman Defeats Travis Kelce in Madden NFL 20 Preview of Sunday’s Showdown

Richard Sherman had the upper hand in Tuesday night’s epic Xbox Sessions: Game Before the Game episode, as he led the San Francisco 49ers to defeat Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs, 21-16, in a preview of Sunday night’s matchup. The two players battled it out in a friendly but intense game of Madden NFL 20 on Xbox One X live from Miami.

On the virtual football field, Sherman owned the first half,
scoring the first touchdown and holding Kelce to a mere field goal before going
into halftime with a 7-3 lead for the 49ers. However, Kelce and the Chiefs were
quick to respond in the beginning of the second half with a 50-yard kickoff return,
ultimately leading to a touchdown to give the Chiefs a 10-7 lead as the game
barreled toward the start of the 4th quarter.

While the Chiefs made a huge defensive stand and the teams traded touchdowns, the 49ers couldn’t be stopped. Sherman and the 49ers made a huge pick-6 play towards the end of the game – securing the win and earning Sherman not only bragging rights leading up to Sunday’s game, but also 50 Xbox One X consoles and a copy of Madden NFL 20 for Sherman’s charity of choice, Blanket Coverage, the Richard Sherman Family Foundation.

This wasn’t Sherman’s first time in the Xbox hot seat. The 49ers cornerback laced up his virtual cleats for 2015’s Xbox Sessions: Game Before the Game when he was a player for the Seattle Seahawks, and came up short against the New England Patriots’ Shane Vereen.

If you missed the Xbox Sessions: Game Before the Game episode, you can re-watch the match up on Xbox YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Mixer, and Twitch channels beginning January 29! Remember to grab a copy of Madden NFL 20, Madden NFL 20: Superstar Edition, or Madden NFL: Ultimate Superstar Edition at 50% off their original price between January 28 and February 3.

With Xbox’s Game Before the Game in the
books and the 49ers coming out on top 21-16 over the Chiefs, we’ll have to wait
until Sunday to see how the IRL game shapes up!

Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for more upcoming

Stone, the Aussie LGBT Stoner Noir, is Out Now on Xbox One

Summary

  • Stone is a single-player, third-person interactive story where a hungover koala detective wakes to find his lover Alex has been kidnapped.
  • Made by Convict Games, a new team of ex-AAA developers, filmmakers and musicians that have worked on games like Control and Quantum Break and films like “Gravity” and “Prometheus.”
  • A passion project, Stone was made to tell a new type of story.

Hey Xbox Wire, nice to meet you all. I’m Greg Louden from Convict Games and I’m here to talk about our debut, Stone. It’s an Aussie LGBT stoner noir interactive story that follows our koala private investigator Stone who wakes to find his lover has been kidnapped. You need to find out what happened.

As I
wrote, we’re an interactive story, so super, super story driven. While playing,
there’s constant reference-filled dialogue like a great hip-hop track and an
eclectic soundtrack. So mechanically in the game you walk, talk, interact,
dance, smoke, and drink. Some call it a Walking Sim; we like to call it an Interactive
Story. We have one ending in Stone, so you don’t change the story with
these choices, but rather you adapt it and make it your own.

Stone

To
bring noir to 2019 and Xbox, it had to be hip hop, that to me is also about
wordplay and Stone is filled with references and throwbacks. It’s also a
genre with a set use in games, however we wanted to present it in a different
way and bring my passion for the genre to storytelling in interactive stories.

The
whole koala, anthropomorphic concept came from the fact that it’s a great
metaphor; and in games we need to build everything. So why do we recreate the
real world when we can create something new and something only games or CGI can
do.

Stone

Stone is filled with licensed
tracks and public domain cinema. I’m stoked with the selection and I think
people will really enjoy the music and cinema we have available. We have Ryan
Little providing our central hip hop vibe with Ilkka S providing our techno. On
the Aussie side we have Luchii involved along with Grand Oyster Palace, Joseph
Banks and Golden Grove on the Aussie rock front. In terms of cinema some
players will watch some cinema like “Night of the Living Dead” and will be
blown away, because all of these films are masterpieces that are now free for
use.

Convict
Games is a new Aussie remote story game company telling high impact and
alternative stories. We’ve got talent from Moscow, Helsinki, Los Angeles,
Sydney and Melbourne that have worked on our debut Stone. Convict was
founded by my Co-Founder Sarah and I on July 5, 2017 and our motto is “Breaking
free since 2017.” Which means we’re trying to do something fresh with our
stories rather than follow others.

Stone

All
of us who have worked on Stone like telling alternative stories. In
games, those types of stories are very rarely played and usually you evade,
attack and shield as mechanics. We wanted to push interactive storytelling
further. Usually there’s the same sort of music too; we wanted to challenge
that as well.

This is Stone and we’re Convict Games.
