Old-School RPG Chronus Arc Arrives On Switch Next Week, Pre-Purchase Now Live At 10% Off

Kemco has shared the news that RPG Chronus Arc is now available for pre-purchase on Nintendo Switch. It launches just next week on 20th December.

The story of this one follows Loka, a young boy who is training to become a Sorcerer Knight. Loka is heading off to find the Chronus Fragments, which are needed for the ceremony of ‘Time Rewinding’, but the sudden appearance of a mysterious man intent on stealing the Fragments changes everything. He soon finds himself on a quest with his childhood friend, Princess Sarna, in a fight for the Chronus Energy.

The game actually released on 3DS just a few years ago; we have a full review of that version available if you’d like to learn more. Essentially, we felt that it has the potential to appeal to fans of old-school RPGs, especially those who are mostly concerned about the mechanics traditionally found within them, although we couldn’t help but feel disappointed at the story’s lack of charm.

Standard pricing for the game is set at $12.99 / 12.99€ / £11.69, but you’ll be able to pick it up at 10% off during the pre-purchase period (before it launches on the 20th).

What do you think? Are you sold enough by the classic feel to make a purchase? Let us know if you’ll be getting this one with a comment below.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 1.2.0 Is Now Live

Version 1.2.0 of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has already arrived. To perform the update manually, access the software update from the Switch HOME Menu. As for what this update actually does – apart from wiping your replays – it’s mostly a bunch of technical tweaks. There have also been some adjustments made to particular fighters, but there’s no information about what these changes do. Below is the full rundown, courtesy of the in-game notification:

Online:

  • In Quickplay, the Format set in Preferred Rules is more likely to be factored into matching. This may result in longer wait times when being matched. Note that this does not guarantee that your Preferred Rules will be used when being matched.
  • Stability of real-time communication has been improved in Battle Arenas.

General:

  • Game balance adjustments, stability fixes and other minor adjustments have been made.
  • Individual adjustments and fixes have been made to the fighters listed below:

Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Luigi, Ice Climbers, Young Link, Olimar, Toon Link, Villager, Greninja, PAC-MAN, Duck Hunt Duo, Isabelle

Notice on compatibility issues:

  • The latest software version is required to enter Online mode.
  • Local wireless play is not compatible with Ver. 1.1.0 and earlier. All players who want to fight in local wireless battles need to make sure they have the same software version.
  • Replays are not compatible with Ver 1.1.0 and earlier. If you want to keep your replays, convert them into videos before installing the update. You can do this via Vault > Replays > Replay Data > Convert to Video.

For anyone who has played Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, their spirits are now also available:

The relevant spirit might appear both on the Spirit Board and in the Shop, so don’t miss a chance to grab the same present twice! PS If you haven’t played those games, don’t worry- we’re also planning on making these spirits available at a later date.

Have you updated to the latest version of Ultimate? Tell us below.

Spawn Creator Hints That The Character Might Appear In Mortal Kombat 11

One of the bigger surprises from The Game Awards last week was the reveal of Mortal Kombat 11 for Nintendo Switch. The trailer was a surprise by itself, springing up when an award was supposedly about to be announced, but the confirmation that the game is coming to Switch was arguably even more of a shock. A very nice one, mind you.

Now, though, another interesting little nugget of information has potentially been spoiled by someone who you’d least expect. Todd McFarlane, creator of comic book anti-hero Spawn, has hinted at the possibility of the character appearing in the game. The tease comes from a Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ session hosted by McFarlane just hours ago; one fan asked whether he would “let Spawn be in Mortal Kombat 11”, to which he replied:

“I believe he’s on his way…”

Could this just be some sort of joke, with the character not actually set to appear in the game? Perhaps, although it wouldn’t actually be out of the question for Spawn to make a guest appearance. 2015’s Mortal Kombat X added guest characters like Jason Vorhees and Predator as DLC, so this game could follow suit, and Spawn is set to star in his very own movie in the future, potentially making a crossover such as this more viable.

As always, it’s best to wait for an official confirmation before completely believing this to be true. Until then, though, why not let us know whether or not you’d like to see Spawn appear in the game with a comment below?

Pokémon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution Receives July Release Date In Japan

The next movie in the Pokémon franchise has now received a release date in Japan. Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will hit Japanese theatres on 12th July 2019.

This film will be the third movie in the franchise’s recent alternate continuity, following on from Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! (which loosely followed the story of the anime’s opening season) and this year’s Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us. This new adventure appears to be a callback to the very first Pokémon film, Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back, which first released in Japan back in 1998.

Other than the teaser image above, we actually know very little about the movie itself. The film will be directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Motonori Sakakibara, with screenplay by Takeshi Shudo, but no plot details, trailers, or the like have been released just yet. The previous two movies mentioned above also released in Japan in July, followed by November releases in North America and Europe – we’d therefore expect a November 2019 western release here, too.

Have you been enjoying the recent alternate Pokémon movies? Will you be heading to the cinema to watch this one? Tell us below.

Pokémon GO Trainer Battles Are Now Live For All Players Level 10 And Above

As promised, Pokémon GO has now introduced player vs. player battles, allowing you to take on your friends with your beloved collection of pixelated critters.

Just like most new features that are added to the game, trainer battles initially arrived for those who had reached the app’s maximum Level 40 mark. It only took a couple of hours for the feature to be rolled out to other players, however, and now everyone at Level 10 and above can take part. As Niantic has explained below, this level will be the minimum requirement players must reach to join in.

If you’re wanting to jump straight into battle against your nearest and dearest, make sure to check out our guide to How Player Vs. Player Trainer Battles Work in Pokémon GO for tips and instructions on how to get started. You might also find this initial reveal post helpful.

NES And SNES Classic Consoles Won’t Be Restocked After Holidays, “Once They Sell Out, They’re Gone”

Nintendo’s NES and SNES Classic systems have had an interesting time on the market over the last couple of years. Initially, consumers struggled to get their hands on the NES console as shipments sold out faster than they arrived, but things slowly started to improve over time and the SNES had a much smoother launch overall. Despite some fans being left out early on, the consoles have shifted more than 10 million units between them.

But what about the future of these tiny, retro machines? Well, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that the two products won’t be restocked after the holiday period. After a quick reminder that these current systems will be “the extent of [Nintendo’s] classic program”, he goes on to talk about how this classic console era is seemingly coming to an end.

“We’ve also been clear that, at least from an Americas perspective, these products are going to be available through the holiday season and once they sell out, they’re gone. And that’s it. The way that consumers will be able to continue participating with our classic content is going to be through Nintendo Switch Online, and we just released three new games (Ninja Gaiden, Wario’s Woods and Adventures of Lolo) from the NES generation onto that platform. We look at that as the main way that consumers will be able to experience that legacy content.”

It was only last month that Reggie described the NES and SNES Classics as “limited time opportunities” that were designed to bridge the gap between Wii U and Switch, so this news isn’t all that surprising. Having said that, we do find it strange that Nintendo wouldn’t want to keep stock available to some extent – the company tends to value its legacy content incredibly highly, and that includes the systems themselves.

If you haven’t already grabbed your own version of either of these two consoles, perhaps now is the time to go ahead and get one. Let us know in the comments if you plan to buy one before the holidays.

Mega Man Legacy Collection Sells One Million, A First For The Series In 15 Years

Capcom’s blue bomber Mega Man might feature alongside the all-star cast in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but things have been quite rough for him over the past 15 years. According to Capcom financial data dating back to September, the Mega Man Legacy Collection – which debuted on the Switch earlier this year and prior to this on multiple other platforms – has now sold one million copies worldwide.

This is a rather significant feat as there hasn’t been a Mega Man release to reach the one million sales mark in 15 years, even though there have been more than 50 games released in the long-running series that first started out on the NES in 1987. In case you’re wondering, the other games in the series to reach one million sales include Mega Man 2. Mega Man 3, Mega Man X and Mega Man Battle Network 4 originally released on the Game Boy Advance in 2003. The 1988 release Mega Man 2 still has the highest amount of sales, shifting a total of 1.51 million units.

The most recent release in the series was Mega Man 11 in October. During an interview with the fansite Rockman Corner, the game’s Producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya said the team wasn’t even sure about post-release DLC support for the newest entry in the series. While Legacy is technically a collection, we can only hope its sales milestone is enough for Capcom to continue pumping out new games, or at the very least encourage them to seriously consider DLC for the eleventh mainline release.

Reggie: Third-Party Gaps In Switch Game Library Linked To Timing Of System Reveal

The Switch might be a relatively new system, but once again, it’s Nintendo hardware that has seemingly been shunned by a sizable portion of the video game industry, resulting in a number of developers and publishers not even acknowledging the hybrid platform.

Following the conclusion of the 2018 Game Awards, IGN caught up with Nintendo of America’s President Reggie Fils-Aimé to ask why exactly there are so many gaps in the Switch’s third-party line-up. According to the man himself, it’s all down to timing and the fact people seem to forget the Switch isn’t even two years old yet. Most of these gaps are because development on certain titles was already well underway before the Switch was even released:

“The way this industry works, games are in development for multiple years. People forget that Switch is only experiencing its second holiday. So many, many games that are just launching were well in development before any conversations were had with these developers regarding Nintendo Switch.”

Reggie went on to explain how the Switch was gaining ground with simultaneous launches – making reference to Mortal Kombat 11 and Crash Team Racing. He further stated how Nintendo had now proven itself to developers and publishers with a growing install base:

“Now that we’ve been in the marketplace coming up on two years, now that we’ve shown the pace with which we’re growing an install base, and doing it globally, that’s the other piece that is meaningful for developers,” he said. “Our strength in the Americas, our strength in Asia, our strength in Europe is critically important. That’s what creates the opportunity for developers to make sure their content is available on Switch at the earliest opportunity.”

Do you agree with Reggie? Is it all down to the timing of the Switch release and when production on certain third-party titles originally began? Do you think this is the main reason why particular third-party games are skipping the Switch? Tell us below.
