Bedrock – 1.14.30

Mojang is still hard at work to get those bugs squashed.  Continue reporting bugs you find while playing to bugs.mojang.com.  You can still play with your friends running 1.14, but those on the Nintendo Switch will still have a bit to wait before this update is released to them.

  • Combine 4 Nether Scrap with 4 Gold Ingots in a crafting table to make a Netherite Ingot

Netherite Effects

  • Basalt pillars span from floor to ceiling

  • A dark blue fog covers the forest
  • Warped spores swirl through the air
  • The Warped Forests are strange, but also the least hostile place of Nether

World Generation

  • The old Nether biome is now called Nether Wastes
  • Made shipwrecks and ocean ruins a bit less common, so you get more excited when you find one!
  • Added a locatebiome command

Java Edition: Combat Snapshot V5

Unification.

That is the overall goal Mojang has in mind with this next combat update.  They want Minecrafters to have fun and they want to have balance for PvE and PvP content alike.  The changes we’ll see here will come in a future update to all official editions of Minecraft.  This snapshot is based on the 1.15.2 pre-release and if you want to get a peek at what changes are coming to the combat system you better check it out.  If you’d like to make a suggestion don’t be afraid to check out Mojang’s Feedback website or join in on the conversation on the official Reddit post.

  • Attack rates are generally faster
  • You are only able to attack when the attack timer has recharged
  • The attack timer only resets when attacking (compared to switching items)
  • You can keep pressing the attack button to continuously attack
  • Weapons deal less damage overall
  • Weapons now have different reach (tridents and hoes reach farther, axes reach less)
  • Natural healing from food has been rebalanced (no more saturation boost)
  • Projectiles are more accurate and don’t inherit the shooter’s momentum
  • Experimental enchantment called “Chopping” for axes
  • Many other smaller changes to tridents, snowballs, shields, and knockback mechanics

Read can read about all the changes over time in the Reddit posts: 1234, and 5 (this one)

In detail, weapons:

  • Stone tier lowered to +0 (same as wood, was +1)

  • Iron tier lowered to +1 (was +2)

  • Diamond tier lowered to +2 (was +3)

  • Swords lowered to +2 (was +3)

  • Axes lowered to +3 (was +4)

  • Trident lowered to 5 (was 6)

For example, a Diamond Sword now deals 2+2+2=6 points of damage. This was 2+3+3=8 in the previous test, and 1+3+3=7 in 1.9/1.8 (base damage is 2 now, same as on Bedrock).

In detail, food rebalance:

  • Saturation boost removed

  • Eating food is now slower (40 ticks, was 32 ticks)

  • Natural healing works longer (down to 6 food points, used to be down to 18)

  • Natural healing is faster (every 3 seconds, was 4)

  • New: Natural healing now always drains food points. Saturation is not used when healing damage and is only relevant as a “pause” until food drains (as originally intended)

  • Sprinting is no longer affected by the food value

Other changes:

  • Various block-hitting and air-swinging bug fixes

  • Made it possible to hit players with snowballs (TODO: game rule)

  • Reintroduced upwards knockback when hitting players in the air… Probably too strong right now, but can be balanced later

  • Changed the swing animation to emphasize the rhythm of the attacks

  • Added cooldown to egg

Bonus controversial edit…

  • Added a kind of “Coyote Time” that activates for a fraction of a second if you aim at something but attack outside its bounding box. The background to this change is that since you can’t attack between swings, it often gave the impression that your input was “lost”. It also made fighting small and fast targets (rabbits or baby zombies) unnecessarily frustrating

Pre-Release 2: Java Edition 1.15.2

It felt like only yesterday when we had the first prerelease.  Looks like Mojang is wrapping things up to get us 1.15.2 as soon as possible.  For now, take some fixes as they clean up for a final release around the corner.

  • Fixed bugs

  • MC-169825 – “Multiplayer (3rd party)” shows in window title when disconnecting from a singleplayer world
  • MC-169839 – Certain potion effects that override lower level effects don’t get removed after their duration ends
  • MC-169840 – Drinking a level 1 potion under a level 2 beacon and leaving results in the effect being lost
  • MC-169848 – Crashes when trying to create Beehive From planted tree
  • MC-169886 – No older world protection in 1.15.2 PR 1

Pre-Release: Java Edition 1.15.2

Pre-Release 1.15.2

Tired of collecting bee nests and having bees get angry at you?  How about when creating that one map and needing patrols to spawn so you can ambush the player when they least expect it?  It’s that time again where we’re starting off our journey towards the next major update.  Annoyed that you keep falling down ladders with your elytra or having your potion effects removed by a beacon?

Yeah, I thought so.  Mojang is listening and they’ve heard you as they’ve released the first pre-release of the year for Java Edition!.  We’re still a good ways out from the Nether Update, but while we’re waiting let’s take a look at what the first pre-release for Java Edition has to offer.

Changes

  • Bees no longer anger when a nearby nest/hive is destroyed using a silk touch tool
  • Added doPatrolSpawning and doTraderSpawning game rules that control spawning of patrols and wandering traders, respectively
  • Added gui_light option in block models to allow controlling light when rendering model as item in GUI
  • Controls light when rendering block model inside slot. If set to side, model will be rendered like block. If set to front, model is shaded like flat item
  • Fixed bugs

Fixes

  • MC-862 – Spawn protection doesn’t work for item frames, paintings and armor stands
  • MC-1541 – Beacon effect removes potion effect of the same type
  • MC-51053 – Furnace minecarts lose power after navigating corners
  • MC-150575 – Concrete powder does not turn into concrete when letting it fall beside water
  • MC-153987 – Falling down ladders while wearing elytra
  • MC-165695 – Hoppers harvesting honeycomb from bee hives and bee nests only pick up one honeycomb
  • MC-166312 – Loom UI pattern icons are too dark
  • MC-166319 – B on “Open in browser” is lowercase in link confirmation GUI
  • MC-166324 – “Raw input” button has lowercase “i”
  • MC-166722 – Some custom item models appear dark in the inventory
  • MC-167018 – Misplaced pixel in critical hit particle texture
  • MC-167079 – Horse Armor texture is off
  • MC-167201 – Invisible glowing entities do not respect their team color
  • MC-167219 – Reloading a resource pack enough times will cause intense lag
  • MC-167220 – Items on marker armor stands no longer glow
  • MC-167235 – Distance from where you can enter a bed is off center
  • MC-167344 – com.mojang.blaze3d.platform.ClipboardManager leaks direct buffers
  • MC-167416 – Distance from where a monster will stop you from sleeping is off center
  • MC-167444 – iron_golem_crackiness_* textures show up on invisible iron golems that are damaged
  • MC-167709 – Bees that ride a boat, minecart or other entities when entering their hive or nest can’t leave the hive or nest ever again
  • MC-168091 – Concrete powder doesn’t convert into concrete when dropped into deep water
  • MC-168230 – End crystal beam is dark / desaturated
  • MC-168467 – Bees do not remember how many crops they’ve pollinated
  • MC-169157 – Breaking a hive with obstructed front makes bees vanish

That’s a lot of fixes!  I can’t wait to dive right in and test the changes for myself.  Don’t forget, if you’re planning on using a pre-existing world to back it up!  Don’t want all your hard work to disappear right?  After you’ve done that and if you find any bugs, be sure to report them on Mojang’s Issue Tracker or if you have a suggestion or a change you’d like to see, head on over to Mojang’s Feedback website!

Minecraft Forum – Plans for 2020

Greetings!

The last year was an interesting one for MinecraftForum. With the planned archiving of the forum and then the change of ownership to keep the forum active, there has been a lot of back-end work to keep this site going. While we’ve definitely been struggling to keep up in some areas (poor news…), we’ve certainly not been twiddling our thumbs behind the scenes.

With that in mind, we figured it’s probably a good time to just let you know of some of the plans that we hope to get to in the year 2020. Some of these would be more hidden changes, some small, but some giant. Let’s go through what we have in our minds for this year.

1) Restructure of our forum sections as a whole

This one is a giant goal of ours. We know that the current structure is…. not exactly great for a lot of different reasons. When we made the current structure we tried to keep the naming similar to what Mojang calls their versions of the game, but we knew when we did it that it would be confusing. We’re re-evaluating this and are looking at better ways to collapse or expand sections in order to make the most of what we have from you, the community, and to get your content shared with millions of users. We’ll have posts later in our Forum Discussion and Information section once we have a better plan for how we’d like to restructure things. We know this won’t be an easy change, but we will value your input into this process as we go, to point out things we may not notice or think of. Keep an eye out for more information regarding this.

2) New server list

In continuing the forum restructure, we’ve had a thread that’s been trying to gather ideas for a new server list. If you didn’t know, Minecraft Forum used to run a server list, which tried to help promote servers in a different light. Sadly, this list wasn’t maintained well, and so it was discontinued. We are looking at the idea of bringing a list back, knowing that it has to cater to small servers, large servers, whitelist servers, graylist servers, realms, even just the occasional “i want a friend” servers. And not just for Java Edition, we know there’s more to the multiplayer world. We don’t know if this will happen in 2020 due to the amount of effort it would take, but it’s a goal we have.

3) Alternate logins

We know that only having a Twitch login is a huge turn-off for some people. We are looking into additional providers to support in the future. We’re hoping to offer Xbox Live and Google as alternative providers, perhaps some others too, however there is no ETA on this yet. We are still doing research and work to determine how difficult it will be to support multiple providers like this within our existing system.

4) Better filters for content searching

The server search functionality is a feature that we know is… not great. Not only that, the prefix system that we have is not obvious to users that you can actually use it to find content. We are looking into better ways of making this more apparent, and to make it more of an actual search feature. It’d be a lot nicer to find those 1.15 fantasy packs if we had a simple filter, wouldn’t it?

5) More news

News is one of the most important things that makes it to the front page here. And while we’ve done our best to keep up with the essential updates, we know we’ve been really slacking to keep you all up to date on all that’s going on in the world of Minecraft. We are looking at ways to better put news in front of you that you would care about, and not just repeat what Mojang already gives you. After all, there’s more to the community than just the latest build update.

6) More bug fixes

2019 was full of back-end fixes that you may not have seen. Although, being able to see your old PMs was definitely a fix I know some of you have noticed. We know there’s still a lot of issues with the site, and will be continuing to work on improving your experience so that you can find and share your content.

That about covers it for this update! We will continue to strive to keep this forum going far into the future with Magic Find, whose administrative & dev teams have been directly working with us to make the site work even better than before. Let us know of any other things you’d like to see, and who knows, maybe your ideas might be done.
