Employees at Apple’s first unionized store to protest closing

The union representing staff at Apple Towson Town Center has announced a public rally for May 27, 2026, protesting against Apple’s treatment of its workers.

Apple Towson is not the only store that Apple has decided to close, but it is the only unionized one. It was the first Apple Store to unionize, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Union claims that its members are being discriminated against because of this.

Known as the Machinists’ Union for short, it has now announced a public protest.

“[Elected] officials, “labor allies, and community leaders will hold a #DoRightApple public solidarity rally on Wednesday, May 27,” says the union, “to demand accountability from Apple and support for the nearly 90 IAM Local 4538 members facing job loss.”

Apple has said that it is closing this store, and two others in June 2026, because of changes in the shopping malls where they are based.

“Following the departure of several retailers and declining conditions at Trumbull Mall, the Shops at North County, and Towson Town Center,” said Apple when the closures were announced, “we’ve made the difficult decision to close our stores at these locations.”

Local council members have objected to Apple’s decision to close the store. But the Machinists’ Union is calling out Apple over how it is treating its members differently from staff in the non-unionized stores.

Specifically, Apple has said that staff from those stores can continue in their jobs at other Apple Store locations. For the Towson store, it says those staff are “eligible to apply for open roles at Apple in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.”

That agreement is the one established between Apple and the union. However, the Machinists’ Union claims that there is no clause in it which would prohibit Apple from relocating its staff.

The Machinists’ Union has previously filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against Apple with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The NLRB has previously been successful in accusing Apple of illegal union-busting activities.

This public protest rally on May 27 will start at 11 a.m. Eastern at Patriot Plaza, 400 E. Washington Ave., Towson, Md., just over half a mile away from the store. It will be streamed live on the Machinists’ Union’s Facebook page.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Gets Paradoxical Next Week

We’re getting to the end of the month, so The Pokémon Company is on hand to showcase what’s next for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.

It feels like just yesterday that the Pulsing Aura set arrived on the scene, but the next expansion, Paradox Drive, is right around the corner. This one will launch on 28th May at 2am BST / 3am CEST / 6pm PT (27th) and, as the name suggests, it’s all about the Paradox Pokémon.

The set will see TCGP debuts for the likes of Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex, and the Future and Ancient categories will also begin to crop up in the game, so you can start to build decks with whatever attack/speed strategies you prefer.

Here’s a closer look at a handful of the expansion’s cards we’ve seen so far:

The monthly expansions continue to feel a little breakneck in their release pace for those of us who are still playing daily (hello to the handful of other daily players out there!), but there’s no denying TPC’s commitment to making catching ’em all as challenging as possible.

Will you be checking out the Paradox Drive expansion next week? Let us know in the comments.

Nintendo Reportedly Producing 20 Million Switch 2 Consoles In FY2027

Switch 2
Image: Damien McFerran / Nintendo Life

Nintendo is looking to produce a whopping 20 million Switch 2 consoles during fiscal year 2027, according to a report from Bloomberg.

This number is significantly higher than the 16.5 million unit sales forecast it delivered during its end-of-year financial report. After the company succeeded in shifting 19.86 million consoles during the launch year, the conservative forecast was particularly notable thanks to an upcoming price hike in Japan and the West.

But here’s the thing: cast your mind back to the Q2 financial release from Nintendo: the company had originally forecasted 15 million Switch 2 sales during its launch year, and it increased this figure up to 19 million after it became abundantly clear that the console was selling much better than expected. As we’ve all seen by now, Nintendo managed to surpass its lofty 19-million-unit target.

So is this just history repeating itself? Is Nintendo’s 16.5 million sales forecast the lowest possible estimate? If the report is true and Nintendo is indeed looking to produce 20 million consoles, then it seems likely that it sees potential in surpassing its forecast target once again.

Obviously, with the price increase looming, it’s difficult to say exactly how successful the Switch 2 will prove to be this fiscal year; especially since we’re so in the dark regarding the games line-up beyond Splatoon Raiders on 23rd July.

So let’s say Nintendo announces, oh I don’t know, an Ocarina of Time remake, as heavily rumoured. This, along with the 2027 launch of Pokémon Winds & Waves (assuming it lands before the end of March 2027, which is far from guaranteed), could very well prompt the company to review its forecast and increase it back up to around 19 million again.

It’s early days yet, and we could really do with a decent Nintendo Direct in the coming weeks to give us an idea of how the second half of the year is going to pan out for the Switch 2.

Ball’s in your court, Nintendo. Show us what you got.

Nintendo has a long history of providing low forecast estimates, so this isn’t massively surprising, but what do you make of it? Leave a comment with your thoughts down below.

Warhammer And Dotemu Reveal Brutal Action Platformer ‘Deathmaster’ For Switch 2

During the Warhammer Skulls Showcase this week, Dotemu lifted the lid on its new action platformer Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster for the Switch 2.

It will be arriving at some point in 2027 and requires you to stalk prey from the shadows as a “sneaky and brutal assassin” in what’s apparently the first-ever title in this series starring Skaven Ratmen.

Here’s a bit extra about this game from the developer and publisher known for its involvement with titles such as Streets of Rage 4, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. You can check out the reveal teaser at the top of the page.

Embark on a dark tale of treachery as the hooded Ratman Vihneek, an ambitious killer devoted to ascending to the top of his shadowy Eshin clan at all costs. Vihneek’s sinister masters demand unwavering loyalty, but a Skaven’s ambition knows no limits, even when scheming on the precipice of doom. Vihneek’s story is anchored in the rich lore of the Age of Sigmar, where the Skaven have erupted to seize the Mortal Realms for themselves.

Set traps, exploit your surroundings and outwit enemies as you ruthlessly carve your fate through the darkest corners of the Skaven world. Slink past threats undetected while devising cunning plans, savagely slaughtering any Skaven who foolishly stands in your way, from cowering dregs to towering rat ogors.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster’s gritty, atmospheric environments are beautifully twisted with relentless decay, accented with shadows and dark spaces prime for Vihneek to sneak through – and strike from. A richly detailed art style evokes suspense and thrilling tension while delivering a unique, unsettling vision of a Skaven world teeming with secrets that should never be unearthed.

Auroch Digital has also shared a new trailer of its fast-paced roguelite title Warhammer Survivors at the same showcase. It reveals new enemy factions and more. There’s also a demo available for the title on Steam.

“In the latest trailer, Warhammer Survivors’ playable universes (Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar) are consumed by the forces of Chaos in the form of two newly revealed enemy factions: the disgustingly resilient Death Guard and the bloodthirsty and savage Blades of Khorne. Fortunately, a host of new champions are ready to stand against them!”

What do you think of these upcoming Warhammer titles? Will you be checking them out on Switch? Let us know in the comments.

No Gravity Games Is Giving Away 6 Free Switch Games This Month

It may not be the Christmas Holidays yet, but No Gravity Games is back with a fresh line-up of daily free Switch games.

The ‘Pixel Chaos Giveaway‘ gets underway tomorrow (19th May) and will be sticking around until 24th May, with one No Gravity Games-published title going for free every 24 hours.

Just like the annual ‘Switchmas Giveaway‘, there are a couple of rules to bear in mind with this one. First up, the offer is only available to those with a North American Nintendo account, without parental controls enabled. Then, you’ll need to have downloaded at least one game from the No Gravity back catalogue to get the giveaway started.

Things then work on a chain basis, requiring you to pick up the previous day’s free game before you can move on to the next. Each game will be subject to a discount for 24 hours after its free period, so you can buy it on the cheap if you happen to miss a day and break the chain.

We’ll be updating the following list in the coming days, so you can keep track of each and every freebie in the giveaway:

If previous giveaways have taught us anything, it’s that the events rarely consist of wall-to-wall quality titles, though the theme this time around is all about “classic-style platformers”, so it might be worth checking out if you’re keen to beef up this specific section of your Switch library.

Will you be picking up any of the free games in this giveaway? Let us know in the comments.

Inti Creates Announces New Spin-Off Game And Switch 2 Edition Trilogy

Inti Creates has today surprised Nintendo fans with not one, but two game announcements (and more) for the Switch 2.

First up is Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 3. This is the third entry in the 2D action spin-off series. It will be arriving at some point in 2027.

Here’s a bit about the game’s story, which will be supported by the same “classic” action as the previous entries. You check out the trailer at the top of the page.

“Luminous Avenger iX 3 sees Copen back in his home world facing a new threat. A mysterious girl appears before him, bringing warnings of otherworldly invaders known as “iX Bearers.” Featuring the same classic 2D action as the previous games, iX 3 ups the intensity with a new weapon: the twin energy swords, “Divide Edge.” iX 3 also brings unprecedented levels of character customization with the “Code Customizer” system, allowing you to build up Copen’s strengths as you see fit, provided you can manipulate the system to your benefit!”

As previously revealed, the Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger ix 1+2 Dual Collection will also be arriving on the Switch 2 and Switch this July.

Along with this is the announcement of Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. This trilogy collection, containing the first, second and third game (and all of the DLC), was previously released on the Switch and will be made available in 2026.

The Switch 2 Edition will also add support for “high framerate and resolution displays” as well as a new story called “Azure Striker Gunvolt GX“. Here’s a bit about this, along with the new mechanic, and you can check out the trailer below:

“Players will control a tag-team duo of Gunvolt and Copen with new weapons and abilities. It also features a new “Inspiration” system, encouraging players to swap between the two heroes at the right time to activate gameplay and score bonuses.
