Meet the New Xbox MVPs

We are proud to welcome three new Xbox most valuable professionals (MVPs) awardees: Dhayana Sena, Courtney Craven, and Matt Armstrong. Everything from creating a welcoming community to creating awareness of game accessibility, these leaders go above and beyond in the gaming community. Read on to find out more about them and how they impact the gaming community.

Dhayana

Feeling alone and cast aside due to her
love for pop culture and geekdom, Dhayana created her own, community hub, a
website called Attack On Geek. After adding game
reviews and content to her new site, she became aware that several women around
the world often hid their genders/identities in order to be taken seriously
when playing games online. This discovery inspired her to take a stand against
discrimination and create awareness for inclusivity and accessibility in
gaming.

“I’ve always felt that true change comes
from within, so by starting a community that focuses on content for everyone —
regardless of background, level of experience, and such – I hope that others
will feel inspired to do the same,” explains Dhayana.

Overtime Attack on Geek evolved from a
personal blog to a platform that shares all voices and varied content including
writing and streaming. Now, the community has grown beyond Attack on Geek.
Today, there is Women of Xbox Twitter and
Discord accounts to empower female gamers, strengthen community ties, and share
the love of Xbox gaming.

Now for a quick Q & A to learn more
about Dhayana

Anika: If you could talk to girls growing up who love gaming, what
would you tell them?

Dhayana: My advice to girls
who love games and feel alone, is that you’re never really alone. Gaming
connects us all globally and just when you think you’re all alone, you’ll find
someone who may share in your experiences, love the same things you do, and
someone who you might form strong bonds with. So, don’t fret if you feel as if
there’s no one out there who understands you. Trust me, there are plenty!

Anika: What do you like to do in your free time?

Dhayana: Free time? What’s
that? (Laughs). Beyond working on Attack On Geek, Xbox content and Women of
Xbox, I really enjoy keeping up my health and fitness, collectible shopping (I love
anime and comic book statues), and watching anime.

Anika: What is your favorite game of all time?

Dhayana: “Tough pick but if I have to pick just one, I’ve always loved Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.”

Courtney

Two years ago, Courtney, along with her partner, Susan Banks, created Can I Play That? (CIPT)A website dedicated to sharing content about gaming accessibility authored by gamers who have disabilities.

“We wanted to use our platform and
success to pass the microphone to gamers with disabilities and allow them to
speak on the accessibility areas in which they are the experts,” Courtney
explains.

CIPT includes accessibility game reviews,
features why and how contributors play, as well as accessibility reference
guides for game creators and developers.

“We’ve grown massively in our first year
and every so often, I’ll get an email from someone noting that they’d never
even considered the accessibility of games and after visitingCIPT,
learned so much and came away with a new perspective,” notes Courtney, “I’d
like to continue to spread that sort of awareness and I’d also like for us to
help standardize accessibility.”

In addition to all the impactful
information and stories on the site, CIPT Awarded several developers for
accessibility in their games — including Gears 5 for Best Overall
Accessible Game and Apex Legends for Most Accessible Multiplayer Chat. You
can view the full list here.

Now for a quick Q & A to learn more
about Courtney

Anika: What do you want
those who work in the gaming industry to know about the importance of gaming
accessibility?

Courtney: One of our new
contributors wrote our “Blind and
Low-Vision Accessibility Guide
” recently and something she said in it really
stuck with me: Know that blind people want to play your game. I think that’s
the thing that may not be something enough people are aware of. Not just blind
players, but disabled players of all kinds. Know that there is a massive desire
from the disabled community to play your amazing game, so do what you can to
allow them.”

Anika: What do you like to do in your free time?

Courtney: I have a
one-year-old Cattle Dog mix who I’m continually trying to tire out and keep
entertained. She keeps me from spending all my free time sitting in front of my
TV, playing a game. I’m also a fiction writer and I’m hoping to have the
manuscript I wrote for my MFA thesis published.

Anika: What is your favorite game of all time?

Courtney: It’s a tie between the Mass Effect trilogy and the Dragon Age series.

Matt

Matt has been an active Xbox community member and fan for many years. His passion for Xbox led him to becoming a moderator for the XboxOne subreddit, a title he has held for three years. Since then, he has become a moderator for the Xbox Insiders subreddit and is involved with early access discussions on Reddit, “Having an engineer directly respond to issues is a great way to show gamers that you’re listening and working to resolve issues,” explains Matt, “Having that interaction with the community makes for a very positive experience.”

In addition to moderating two subreddits,
Matt is also part of an indie developer studio based in Washington state. Over
the last summer, they released their first game on Xbox called Masked Memories.
In this game, Matt was both the narrator and audio director of the game.

Now for a quick Q & A to learn more
about Matt

Anika:
What
do you like to do in your free time?

Matt: When I’m not moderating Reddit, I spend time with my 2 girls who are
growing up to be gamers as well. I’m also a voice actor and have been in a few
small YouTube animations, as well as a few indie games. My first role was the
character I (eye) in a Fallout 4 mod called The Code. I’m also the
narrator for the game Masked Memories, and a news reporter in the RPG Exospace.
Outside of that, I’ve starred in a few fanfic dubs and audio dramas. I also
narrate audiobooks for Learning Ally. Outside of that, I’m usually sailing the
treacherous waters in Sea of Thieves or playing one of the countless
games on my Switch.

Anika: What is your favorite game of all time?

Matt: This is a tough one. I’ve been gaming since the dawn of the NES. Looking back through all the games I’ve played I’d have to say my absolute favorite is Super Mario World. In this current gen though, Sea of Thieves is really taking the top spot for me on Xbox and even though it hasn’t dropped yet, I’m confident Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be my favorite on Switch.

More Than an Award

The Xbox MVP award is given to community
leaders and professionals who are committed to helping others through their
passion, knowledge, and expertise in all things Xbox. MVPs spearhead many projects
that impact the gaming community. Everything from starting their own charity
groups to building fun, welcoming communities, MVPs are leaders who go above
and beyond in the gaming community.

program or if you would like to nominate someone check out https://mvp.xbox.com/.

Bleeding Edge Gets Even Bigger with Mekko and a Brand-new Map

Today, we’re incredibly hyped to announce a brand-new fighter coming to Bleeding Edge: Mekko!

Mekko is a
trash-talking, crab-walking dolphin piloting a mech, and the sole survivor of a
series of brutal experiments designed to turn ocean dwelling creatures into
biological sonic weapons. Aided by Daemon, Mekko escaped captivity and now puts
his mechanical-assisted abilities to the test in the Bleeding Edge arenas.

Our newest addition to Bleeding Edge is a Ranged Tank with limited mobility who can pull allies to safety. By absorbing damage with his bubble shield, Mekko generates Power Orbs which can be used to power up his specials.

Mekko will be available for all players in the launch window of Bleeding Edge, and you can learn more about his move set and backstory here on BleedingEdge.com.

New
Map: Landslide

Bleeding Edge will launch with a brand-new map: Landslide! Set in Mexico, it features new defensive power ups and more trains! The trains in landslide are a little smaller than the one in Jersey Sink and a little less deadly, but you should avoid being run over all the same.

Landslide features both Power Collection and Objective Control game modes, and will be added to Bleeding Edge at launch on March 24

Livestream
Today

Want to see Mekko taking names and making waves? We’ll be streaming live from the Ninja Theory studio today from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. GMT (8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. PT) to show off his full playability. Since he won’t be in-game until the launch window, watch our stream to get an advance preview of him in action on Mixer, Twitch and YouTube

Updated
Art Packs

We’ve also
updated the Fighters Pack on our media page to include some Mekko artwork and
two full sets of avatars featuring all our fighters. The first avatar set
contains hand-drawn portraits of our fighters as seen from the character select
screen in-game, and the second avatar set contains pixel art portraits. Get the art packs here!

Closed
Beta 2 Coming March 13

Our second and final closed beta is coming soon, running March 13 to 16. Be sure to pre-order Bleeding Edge on Xbox One, Windows 10 or Steam, or become an Xbox Game Pass member if you’d like to play! We’ll release more information on upcoming features, server times and pre-install soon so stay tuned here to Xbox Wire for all of the latest Bleeding Edge news.

Celebrate the Legacy of Star Trek Online on Xbox One with New Episodes, Operations, and More

Ten years ago, the first ever Star Trek Massively Multiplayer Online Game released to the world. Now, it’s time to cement your Legacy among the stars. Star Trek Online is happy to bring our 10th Anniversary Update, Star Trek Online: Legacy, to Xbox One today!

This update has been a huge labor of love from the entire
team, celebrating not only the last 10 years of your adventures in the final
frontier, but the last 54 years of Star Trek. As huge Trekkies, we wanted to
make sure you had an update that was worthy of carrying on the legacy of the final
frontier.

The biggest part of this update is one of our most impactful
episodes. In Measure of Morality, Captains will return to Excalbia, the planet
from the classic Original Series episode “The Savage Curtain.” When Kirk and
Spock visited that place, the alien inhabitants forced them to battle some of
the worst monsters from history to determine which was stronger, Good or Evil.

Star Trek Online: Legacy

Now, you’ll journey with two of Star Trek’s biggest bastions
of good: Seven of Nine, played by Jeri Ryan, and Michael Burnham, played by
Sonequa Martin-Green. Martin-Green is making her debut in Star Trek Online, while Ryan is returning for the first time since
the Voyager themed update, Delta Rising.

The Excalbians have upgrades their simulations since the days of Kirk and Spock, and this massive, two-part episode will take you through the history of Star Trek Online, asking players to make moral decisions that affect how the mission unfolds. Can you convince the Excalbians that Good is the stronger force? Or will your actions lead them to choosing Evil as their guiding principle for all time?

But that’s not all that’s coming in Star Trek Online: Legacy. We’re bringing a brand new Task Force
Operation, To Hell with Honor. The viscous outlaw Klingon general J’Ula is
building a ship yard in secret, and the Klingon chancellor, J’Mpok, tasks you
with its destruction. Listen to Klingon Opera as you traverse this moon,
destroying the shipyard, and eventually tangling with massive enemy walkers
from the Mycelial Network.

Star Trek Online: Legacy

Completing the Episode and the Task Force Operation will bring you closer to unlocking a brand new ship, the Khitomer Class. In the year 2411, when Star Trek Online takes place, the Klingon Empire and the Federation are finally allies, and they have designed their first ship together. The Khitomer Class brings together the best of both design styles, in a ship that signals friendship and cooperation across the galaxy. You can unlock the Khitomer on all your characters by playing Measure of Morality, To Hell with Honor, and our Anniversary Omega Molecule Stabilization Event.

It’s been an amazing ten years of Star Trek Online, Captains. If you haven’t yet joined us in the
Final Frontier, now is the best time to jump in and start your own Star Trek
adventure. Come see the more than 600 ships you can command from all over Star
Trek history, and adventure with more than 40 Star Trek characters, all
portrayed by their original actors, like Leonard Nimoy and LeVar Burton. It’s
the best, most immersive Star Trek experience you can have today, and it’s
absolutely free.

For both new players and old, we also have a wonderful gift. Log in right now and you can claim the uniform worn by Starfleet in the new series Star Trek: Picard. This sleek, stylish uniform looks great on all of your crew, and like all of our uniforms, is fully customizable. Even if this uniform isn’t your style, there’s nearly every look ever worn in Star Trek available to wear in Star Trek Online.

Star Trek Online: Legacy

We want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to our players – for the past 10 years, you’ve journeyed with us every step of the way, and we have loved taking that journey with you. The future is bright, and together we can see what’s just beyond the next star on the horizon. Live Long and Prosper, Captains.

Expand Your Collection with New Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controllers

For many of our Xbox fans, collecting new Xbox Wireless Controllers and expressing yourselves with unique gaming gear is a way of life. We share the same passion and are excited to announce two new Special Edition Xbox Wireless controllers to add to your collection: the Xbox Wireless Controller – Phantom Magenta Special Edition and the Xbox Wireless Controller – Arctic Camo Special Edition.

Xbox Wireless Controller – Phantom Magenta Special Edition

The Xbox Wireless Controller – Phantom Magenta Special Edition is the third controller in our Phantom Series. The design is rooted in sci-fi, influenced by the type of aesthetics found in “Ex-Machina” and “Ghost in Shell,” and blended with mysterious luxury to create totally unique designs. Highlighted by an ultra-saturated magenta color effect transitioning to translucent, the Xbox Wireless Controller – Phantom Magenta Special Edition joins the Phantom Series in a bold way. You can add Phantom Magenta Special Edition to your collection for $69.99 beginning March 17 or pre-order yours today at Microsoft Stores, online and in-person, and select online retailers worldwide.

Xbox Wireless Controller – Phantom Magenta Special Edition

Xbox Wireless Controller – Arctic Camo Special Edition

The Xbox Wireless Controller – Arctic Camo Special Edition is the second in our Camo series, the Xbox take on a very classic and iconic look. Specifically, the Xbox Wireless Controller – Arctic Camo Special Edition puts a technical twist on the popular Winter Camo white and grey color scheme. By using frosted transparent resin in the camo pattern, the controller camouflages itself from the inside-out. The diamond-texture on its triggers helps maintain a level of extra technical precision in this series. The Arctic Camo Special Edition will be available in May (for USA, exclusively at Microsoft Stores and Walmart). If you want to lock yours down before then, you can pre-order yours today, worldwide, at Microsoft Stores and select online retailers.

Xbox Wireless Controller – Arctic Camo Special Edition

Designs so stunning deserve to be showcased, and what better way than to combine form and function with Controller Gear’s Phantom Magenta and Arctic Camo Xbox Pro Charging stands. Designed for Xbox, Controller Gear’s Xbox Pro Charging Stands are built with the same high-quality material as Xbox Wireless controllers, so it’s always an exact match, and the magnetic contact system ensures a perfect fit and secure charge every time. Each Xbox Pro Charging Stand comes with a premium charging stand, battery cover, rechargeable battery, and 6-foot power cord. The Phantom Magenta and Artic Camo Xbox Pro Charging Stands will be available in North America for $49.99. You can pick up the Phantom Magenta Xbox Pro Charging Stand beginning March 17 at your local Microsoft Store, in person and online, and at select online retailers. The Arctic Camo Xbox Pro Charging Stand will be available April 27 at select online retailers.

Like all Xbox Wireless Controllers, both the Xbox Wireless Controller – Phantom Magenta Special Edition and the Xbox Wireless Controller – Arctic Camo Special Edition are compatible with the Xbox One family of devices. These new controllers will also work with Xbox Series X, Window 10, and mobile devices (when using your Xbox controller with a mobile device, your performance may vary depending on the device and the mobile operating system version). You can also take advantage of the custom button-mapping feature through the Xbox Accessories app. In select markets, these controllers come with 14-day trials for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass.

Visit Xbox.com or your local retailer, including Microsoft Store, for more information.

    • Workaround: Use a different network password without that character.

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

The New Experiences of Ark: Genesis Part 1

Hi there, survivors!

Craig from Studio Wildcard here, and I’m super excited to be talking about Ark: Genesis Part 1, our newest expansion to Ark: Survival Evolved. We’re adding a whole bunch of new gameplay elements, and giving each survivor their own personal companion: AI construct HLN-A.

We’re always exploring different ways to convey the story of the Ark universe and we think HLN-A is a great step in a new direction. The fantastically talented Amber Lee Connors reprises her role (sort of) as Helena and brings her wonderful charisma and snark to the role. She acts as a vessel for us to deliver story more directly to the player and as the catalyst for the all-new mission system. HLN-A stays with survivors every step of the way, helping them explore the new biomes and guiding them through missions with cheeky hints.

Ark Genesis

Speaking of missions, these are new ways for survivors to experience the Ark universe. In addition to the traditional Ark gameplay, missions give players a way to experience Ark in a more directed and objective-focused way. No spoilers on what those missions are, though. You’ll find them in the Genesis simulation.

Ok, one spoiler… my personal favorites are probably the races. They may not be the truest test of a survivor’s Ark skills, but the dev team’s races got pretty heated whenever we played them, and there were more than a few rematches demanded.

Ark Genesis

It’s not just the
gameplay that we’re pushing the boundaries on. The creatures found in the
Genesis simulation are like nothing survivors have seen before. I have a soft
spot for the Spooder, I mean BogStrider… I mean Bloodstalker. We have like 30
names for it (good luck finding out how to unlock them!). Most of the new
creatures bring something crazy and new to the game, from the Bloodstalker’s
ability to webswing across terrain to the Space Whale’s warp jump.

All these abilities will help survivors explore the crazy new environments in Ark: Genesis Part 1. Because the Genesis simulation is supposed to prepare survivors for the most extreme possibilities, each biome is incredibly different from the others, and requires considerable preparation. The Arctic and Swamp biomes ease players into this, and the Volcanic and Ocean biomes really start testing survivors. By the time survivors make it to the Lunar environment, they must deal with radiation, lower gravity, and an almost complete lack of food and water!

Ark Genesis

As much as I’d love to talk about where the Ark story is going, I have a bad habit of dropping spoilers. Nobody wants that, but what I can say is that once you finally get to the end of ARK: Genesis – Part 1, you won’t be able to wait for the next chapter!

ARK: Genesis Season Pass

Continue your quest for ultimate survival and unlock a whole new chapter in the saga of ARK: Survival Evolved with the ARK: Genesis Season Pass! This Season Pass gives you access to two new huge expansion packs, and one exclusive in-game robotic AI companion called ‘HLN-A’. In ARK: Genesis, further the ARK storyline while adventuring through exotic new worlds with all-new mission-based gameplay. Discover, utilize and master new creatures, new craftable items, weapons, and structures unlike anything you have seen yet! The Genesis Season Pass includes: – ARK: Genesis Part 1 (available February 2020) – ARK: Genesis Part 2 (available Winter 2020) – Exclusive HLN-A cosmetic pet (available right now!) The massive “ARK: Genesis Part 1” expansion includes: Waking up within a virtual simulation, you must survive in a world unlike anything you’ve seen before! ARK: Genesis represents a new, story-oriented beginning in ARK’s epic saga of survival. With a strangely familiar companion, you must overcome the simulation’s rigorous tests. Only by fighting, building, taming, and exploring will you uncover the secrets behind this forbidding place. CONQUER EVERY MISSION A holographic guide to the simulation, HLN-A, offers a wide array of missions at varying difficulty levels, for you to tackle at your own pace — everything from gunning down waves of enemies with the aid of power-ups, escorting vulnerable baby creatures to their parents, tracking and hunting down powerful bosses, competing in Dino Races, even playing a round of Dodo-Basketball, and much more. The simulation itself isn’t perfect, so you can earn extra credit (and experience) by fixing the glitches scattered all throughout the world. Completing missions earns you Hexagons, which you can spend for extra resources, TEK items, travel between environments, and more. EXPLORE LETHAL LANDSCAPES ARK: Genesis features beautiful biomes ripe for exploration — but they all want you dead. The simulator tests your mettle across fetid alien bogs, deep undersea trenches, frigid mountain peaks, dangerous volcanic hellscapes… and even the wild low-gravity surface of an alien moon. Conquering each area requires preparation, smarts, and the ability to improvise so that when a volcano rains fire from the sky, an avalanche buries you, or a whirlpool pulls you into the briny deep, you’re ready to meet the challenge! HUNT AND TAME NEW CREATURES The environments may be dangerous, but they’re nothing compared to the new creatures who call ARK: Genesis home: web-spinning spiderlike beasts, cute-but-deadly shapeshifters, sea turtles the size of islands, and lava lizards that act as living forges. Plus, who doesn’t want to fly around on an immense hyperspace-capable space whale? Master the simulation, and you can test yourself against a mysterious new boss… the likes of which ARK has never seen before. GEAR UP AND BUILD UP As you brave the many dangers of ARK: Genesis, take some time to craft new gear. Wield weapons like combo-capable plasma claws and remote-guided cruise missiles. Make tools from fishing nets to mining drills, or new vehicles such as hover-skiffs. Build interactive structural elements such as pressure plates, alarm systems, jump pads, ocean platforms and more. Whether you’re a go-it-alone survivalist, a weapon-making warmonger, or a base-building architect, this expansion has a crafting project suited for you. WILL YOU PASS THE TEST? ARK: Genesis takes your story in an all-new direction — and your skill determines your success. Everything is turned up to the highest setting: the challenges, the dangers…and the vast rewards. Only the toughest and smartest survivors will pass all of the simulation’s many tests. Will you be one of them?
