Melee Player ‘Hungrybox’ Backs EON GameCube HDMI Adapter

EON the company behind GCHD, a GameCube to HDMI adapter, have today announced that Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma of Team Liquid and Number 1 Super Smash Bros. Melee player in the world has joined them as their official Brand Ambassador and e-Sports Liaison.

The professional Super Smash Bros. Melee player is considered to be one of the best in the world, and at the most recent Overlords of Orlando event, Hungrybox debuted the first ever fully digital Melee Tournament using all 144hz monitors and original GameCubes outfitted with the EON GCHD.

Until now the Melee competitive scene has almost always been tied to ageing CRT technology, as to not to introduce any lag into the fast paced action. But with the combination of original GameCube hardware, lagless HD monitors, and the EON GCHD HDMI Adapter, Smash Melee can finally be played at a professional level on modern displays, with no lag, and at the highest resolution possible.

You may remember we recently took a look at the GC Video Plug ‘n Play device from ZeldaXPro, which is based on the same technology as GCHD. EON have been kind enough to send us a GCHD unit to test ourselves, which we will review in the very near future.

Are you still playing Melee? Would having a zero-lag HDMI adopter finally move you away from that CRT screen? Let us know in the comments below.

SEGA Live Stream Provides More Details About Team Sonic Racing

After the initial Walmart leak earlier this week, followed by the official announcement including a trailer, there’s been much buzz surrounding SEGA and Sumo Digital’s new game, Team Sonic Racing. With only a limited amount of information about the title currently available, fans were eager to find out more details about it during this week’s live stream on the official Sonic the Hedgehog channel.

When queried about how long Team Sonic Racing had been in development for, SEGA’s social media and PR team explained they had been holding their tongues for a long time and noted the game would be playable at the SEGA booth over the duration of this year’s E3.

It was also clarified the game is not a sequel to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, with the title including “very different” mechanics. The game’s character roster was touched on as well, with a mention there would be more Sonic characters in this title than previous Sumo Digital racing games and certain ones featured that haven’t been playable in a while.

To top it off, an answer regarding why Sonic even races in a car was provided – with the reason being if he’s not in a car, the race would be over before it had begun. Cars are apparently used to level the playing field. So, there you go!

Are you excited about Team Sonic Racing? How do you feel about the fastest hedgehog driving a car? Let us know in the comments.

Video: Capcom’s Retrospective Look At Street Fighter III

As you might have heard, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection was recently released on the Switch. We gave it a nine star rating, touting it as an “utterly essential purchase” for any fan of the series or the fighting game genre. Capcom looks to be continuing celebrations of the anniversary with the retrospective series. The latest video focuses on Street Fighter III and can be viewed above.

The 15 minute video discusses how Street Fighter III wasn’t readily embraced on release, but was still praised at the time for its intricate art style during an era when 3D fighting games were beginning to take off. It also makes mention of the larger character roster, technical fighting system and how the game takes place at the end of the timeline – occurring after the events of Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V. The second part of the video looks at Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact – Giant Attack and Street Fighter III: Third Strike – Fight for the Future

If you want to watch the previous retrospective videos or view any extra 30th anniversary Street Fighter content, be sure to visit the official channel.

Have you bought the 30th Anniversary Collection yet? Is Street Fighter III one of your favourite games in the series? Tell us in the comments.

Shinyuden and Ratalaika Games Announce Heroes Trials Is Coming To The Switch

In partnership with Ratalaika Games, Japanese-based studio Shinyuden has announced it will be bringing its brand new adventure game – Heroes Trials – to the Nintendo Switch this summer.

Heroes Trials promises to incorporate only the best elements of traditional role-playing games in order to deliver a compact and frantic experience that takes around four hours to complete. To maintain player satisfaction, repetitive quests and other aspects like grinding are excluded.

Taking place on an island, players control two different heroes as they work their way through more than ten different tests filled with puzzles, bosses and collectables. There’s also some love for speed runners, with the title able to record the time of each run. Adding to this is a narrative – helping to define the game’s goals, a navigation system, a soundtrack by composer Benedikt Grosser and the ability to play the title as a top-down shooter.

Here’s the announcement trailer:

Does this look like it would be your kind of game? Let us know in the comments.

Arc System Works Lays Down The Law With Streaming Guidelines For BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

In preparation for the western launch of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Arc System Works has announced its streaming guidelines in an attempt to restrict the amount of campaign spoilers floating about the internet.

Streamers will not be allowed to broadcast the game’s Episode Mode. At most, players can display brief clips for video content purposes – with no footage beyond Chapter 2 allowed to be uploaded online. Additionally, Arc System Works doesn’t want to see any uploads or streaming of the game’s soundtrack.

Apart from the restrictions tied to Episode Mode, players will still be able to record or stream local and online matches against CPU and players to show off their skills. Tutorial videos breaking down characters, teams, combos and strategies will also be permitted.

Below are the official guidelines:

DO

  • Stream matches to your heart’s content. Either against other players (local or online), or against the CPU. Show off your mad skills.
  • Put together tutorial videos to break down characters, teams, strategies, or show how to pull off that amazing combo. More power to you!
  • Show us those online shenanigans, dance parties, and the like.

DO NOT

  • Stream Episode Mode at all. Just don’t. If you have to, very short clips of Episode Mode content up to Chapter 2 are permitted for video content only. Any longer clips, spoilers, or anything else is a danger area, so really, just avoid this all together.
  • Stream or upload any music-only content. Music playing in the background during matches, online lobbies, and etc are totally fine. A soundtrack rip or upload is not.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle arrives on 5th June in North America and on 22nd June in Europe. Tell us in the comments what you think about these restrictions and if you plan on picking up this title on release.

Rumour: Charles Martinet Will Be Voicing Mario In The Wreck-It Ralph 2 Movie

It’s already been confirmed by Nintendo and Illumination that Mario will be making his grand return to the silver screen in his own outing at some point in the near future and now according to a listing on IMDB, the voice behind Nintendo’s well-known mascot – Charles Martinet – will voice the iconic character in Disney’s upcoming 3D animation, Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2.

Martinet has been voicing Nintendo’s mascot since 1990, so if this listing is accurate, it’s fantastic to see his involvement in Wreck-It Ralph 2. With Bowser flying the flag for Nintendo in the original movie, Nintendo’s cast would be represented once again in the second entry. For now though, we’ll just have to wait for any other information about the sequel that surfaces.

The sequel itself takes place six years after the events of the first, with the story focused on Ralph’s adventures within the internet when a wireless router gets plugged into the arcade. It’s due out this year in the US on 21st November. Take a look at the official trailer below and let us know if you’re excited about this release.

Ubisoft Shows Support For Switch As Legendary Fishing Surfaces On Korean Classification Board

As we get closer to this year’s E3, new game announcements and leaks are starting to become more and more frequent. It was only yesterday Fortnite for the Switch appeared on the Korean Ratings Board after a rumoured leak in the form of an E3 document and now it seems like one of Ubisoft’s upcoming releases for the Switch has been outed.

What is it, you ask? It’s Legendary Fishing (Legendary Fishing King) and it’s being published by Ubisoft. At this point in time there are no other details about the title. So, if past fishing game experiences are anything to go, this should be ‘reel’ fun. It might not be Assassin’s Creed or some other big Ubisoft release, but it’s at least something. Let us know down below if you’ll take the bait.

FIFA’s Rival Pro Evolution Soccer Takes Another Hit With Loss Of Dortmund License

While FIFA 18 producer Andrei Lazarescu and his team have been making headlines for all the right reasons in recent times, Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer hasn’t been performing so well on field.

Following recent issues including the inability to secure high-profile licenses and a ten year reign as the Champions League license holder coming to an end earlier this year, the top-tier German side Borussia Dortmund has now prematurely terminated its licensing agreement with the Japan-based publisher one year ahead of schedule, with no reasoning behind the decision provided.

Konami posted the following message on its website confirming the news:

KONAMI and Borussia Dortmund had a license agreement with respect to the use of Borussia Dortmund’s logos, players, stadium and other features in KONAMI products until June 2020. However this agreement was prematurely terminated by Borussia Dortmund. KONAMI will not include Borussia Dortmund’s logos, players, stadium and other features in “PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019”.

With the Champions League license now seemingly up for grabs coupled with ongoing licensing issues for PES, EA’s FIFA has the chance to further extend its lead. This news might be even more satisfying for owners of FIFA on Nintendo Switch as Konami previously made the decision to skip the system when it released its 2018 version of PES. At this point in time, it looks like the 2019 entry will also be giving the platform a miss.
