Streets Of Rage Composer Makes Ambiguous Comment About His Involvement With Fourth Game

Reflect on Sega’s Streets of Rage series and you’ll no doubt remember the radical soundtrack. It was all thanks to the magic of Japanese composer, Yuzo Koshiro. The music for this particular series was considered ahead of its time, experimenting with an array of styles.

As unbelievable as the Streets of Rage 4 announcement is, it’s already raised a few questions. One, in particular, is about the electric dance-influenced music score the series was so well known for and if the original composer will be making a return. According to the tweet from the man himself, Koshiro understands what fans are expecting and is currently unable to discuss anything regarding the newly announced fourth entry, developed by Lizardcube and DotEmu – the studios behind Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap reboot.

The press release for the fourth game says there’ll be a “thumping soundtrack to get your blood pumping”, and makes reference to Koshiro as the original composer of the series. Though, it doesn’t clarify if he’ll be returning or not. We can only hope he does, as his music is what helped make the original tetralogy of beat ’em up games so popular.

As we previously noted, platforms are currently unconfirmed, but given that Wonder Boy appeared on the Switch, the chances of a Nintendo version are good.

Are you excited about Streets of Rage 4? Do you hope Yuzo Koshiro is linked to the new game’s soundtrack? Tell us below.

Aragami: Shadow Edition Coming To Switch This Fall, Will Include Cross-Play

The action-stealth hit Aragami looks to be tip-toeing onto the Nintendo Switch this Fall. Developer Lince Works has teamed up with Merge – an independent video game publisher and distributor – to make the release happen.

For the uninformed, Aragami was originally released on multiple platforms in 2016 and has since sold more than 500,000 copies. It’s a challenging game where you take control of an undead assassin with supernatural abilities and is inspired by old-school stealth games including Tenchu and Metal Gear Solid. There are two contrasting play styles. You can be a ghost – going completely undetected to your enemies, or play as an absolute demon and slay everything in sight.

Aragami: Shadow Edition on the Nintendo Switch will be released in both digital and physical form and will include the original base game and Nightfall expansion with all the available DLC. The game also offers support for two-player online co-op and includes cross-compatibility with PC and Xbox One. Due to Sony’s policies, the PlayStation 4 won’t be taking part in the fun.

Keep an eye out for more details soon. Does a stealth-action game interest you? Have you been waiting on this announcement? Tell us below.

Nintendo Classic Mini Double Pack Releasing In Japan On 15th September

The NES Classic Mini and SNES Classic Mini have been a roaring success, with sales for both devices temporarily outperforming modern generation video game systems during certain months of the year. This will include the Famicom Classic Mini, Super Famicom Classic Mini, and a Nintendo USB AC Adapter compatible with both devices. According to Nintendo Soup, orders are apparently live on Amazon Japan right now. Retailers also have the price of the bundle listed at ¥15,077 (roughly $135.00 / £105.00).

Would you like to see the Nintendo Classic Mini double pack be released outside of Japan? Have you seen a similar deal at your local video game retailer? Do you already own both systems? Tell us below.

Streets Of Rage 4 Is Really Happening, Thanks To The Team Behind The Wonder Boy Reboot

Lizardcube and DotEmu – the studios behind the excellent Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap reboot – are reviving Sega’s classic side-scrolling fighter Streets of Rage.

Developed in conjunction with Guard Crush Games, Streets of Rage 4 boasts a stunning hand-drawn visual style and will build on the gameplay seen in the original trilogy on the Mega Drive.

Platforms are currently unconfirmed, but given that Wonder Boy appeared on the Switch, the chances of a Nintendo version are good.

Here’s some PR:

Streets of Rage, known as Bare Knuckle (ベア・ナックル Bea Nakkuru) in Japan, is a trilogy of beat ’em up games developed and published by SEGA in the 1990s.

Famously known for its non stop action and electronic dance influenced music – scored by Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima – the series has gained the status of cult classic throughout the years. It is considered one of the best beat ’em up series of all time. After many years, Axel and Blaze are finally picking up the fight where they left.

Featuring hand-drawn visuals from the team behind 2017’s gorgeous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem. Streets of Rage 4 recalls classic gameplay but it stands as an entirely original arcade-style romp thanks to the expertise of Guard Crush Games and Dotemu.

Whether players gang up with a friend or clean up the city solo, Streets of Rage 4 is a skull-bashing, chicken-chomping delight all set to a thumping soundtrack sure to get your blood pumping.

Producer Of Soul Calibur VI Open To Game On Switch If It’s Actually Possible

The Switch is already home to a number of iconic fighting game series, so what are chances of Bandai Namco’s Soul Calibur series making the transition? In a translated interview with DualShockers at this year’s Gamescom, SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo said the game was currently not in development for Switch, but didn’t entirely rule out the chances of the long-running fighting series coming to the system in the future:

At the moment there is no development for Switch at all. I understand that the Switch is a very successful hardware, and of course if there is a possibility, then it would be great to do it.

At the moment we’re focusing on the October 19th launch, so we don’t even have the time to think about that possibility. After the launch we’ll think about the possibility.

Nintendo’s Switch already has a great collection of fighting games, with SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy and Dragon Ball FighterZ due out next month, and Nintendo’s very own Super Smash Bros. Ultimate available later this year. It shows there’s always room for more fighting games in the future.

Would you like to see more fighting games make the Switch? Is the Switch fast becoming your fighting platform of choice? Have you played the Soul Calibur series in the past? Tell us below.

id Software “Still Uncertain” If Rage 2 Would Ever Work On Nintendo Switch

This year’s QuakeCon revealed Bethesda and id Software would be bringing DOOM Eternal to the Nintendo Switch, with the help of port specialist Panic Button. As fantastic as the announcement was, unsurprisingly it left fans of id’s work wanting more.

Tim Willits, id Software studio director, then said Rage 2 – developed in partnership with Avalanche Studios – was in consideration for the Switch.

Website DualShockers has now followed this up at this year’s GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. Willits reiterated his previous statement, and Bethesda Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications Pete Hines provided the following response, pointing out some obvious differences with Rage 2 compared to other releases:

We’ve talked about it, but it’s a completely different engine and tech. The nice thing about Doom, Wolf, and Doom Eternal is it all uses id Tech, Rage 2 uses Avalanche‘s engine, so it’s a different beast in terms of a seamless open world that you can play like that. We’ve talked about it some. Still uncertain whether that could ever work on the Switch.

He also explained how previous Nintendo platforms hadn’t been a good fit for Bethesda’s games in the past, compared to the Switch, which is now playing host a number of the company’s iconic series.

According to Hines, Bethesda nowadays aims to bring its games to as many people as it possibly can, because it invests so much time in each one. Bringing games to more platforms generally means more players.

Are you eager to see Rage 2 on Switch? Would you like to see more id Software games in general on the system? Tell us below.
