Video: New Super Mario Bros. Wii Mod Adds Bowsette To Final Boss Battle

As Nintendo has already made it clear it has nothing to say about the drawings and “other things” uploaded to the internet, supporters of the fan-made creation Bowsette have taken matters into their own hands by adding the Bowser and Peach mashup into existing Mario releases.

One modder has gone as far as making Bowsette the final boss battle in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. As can be seen in the clip above, it essentially replaces Bowser with a convincing 3D model of the fan-made character. These types of mods are one of many creations inspired by the character, with fans also uploading comics and art and even creating their own amiibos based on the design.

What do you think about Bowsette? Has this trend finally peaked? Is it a downward spiral from this point onwards? Tell us below.

Sega Wants To Meet Fan Expectations, But Unsure About Inclusion Of Jet Set Radio In AGES Line

If you recall the poll Sega ran prior to this year’s Tokyo Game Show asking fans what games they wanted to see adapted to the AGES line, you’ll no doubt remember the Jet Set Radio series topped the list. This technically covered the original game released on the Dreamcast in 2000 and also the sequel arriving on Microsoft’s Xbox in 2002.

Sega AGES producer Kagasei Shimomura has now said just because the Dreamcast release topped the list, doesn’t mean it will necessarily get ported. In saying this, he still wishes to fulfill fan expectations. M2 President Naoki Horii reiterated Shimomura’s point by saying how he would try his best to make Dreamcast ports happen. Japanese publication Famitsu suggested the main reason the Jet Set Radio series topped the list in the first place is because Hideki Naganuma – the composer of the games – asked the fanbase to nominate it.

Would you be interested in seeing Jet Set Radio added to the Sega AGES line? What other game series would you like to see adapted? Have you tried out any of the existing releases? Tell us below.

2K Sports Has Made “Substantial” Contributions To NBA Playgrounds Sequel, According To Saber Interactive

Following the bumpy launch of the original NBA Playgrounds game on the Switch eShop, the sequel has a lot to prove. Fortunately, Saber Interactive has signed a deal with the basketball video game experts, 2K Sports.

In a recent phone interview with Polygon, Saber CEO Matthew Karch said 20 percent of the improvements in the sequel – Playgrounds 2 – had taken place over the last four to five months since 2K became involved in the development, with the publisher making “substantial” contributions.

2K’s involvement in the sequel made it possible to include the sport’s best and most iconic players including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and a number of others. These are players Saber would have never been able to obtain the rights to on its own, according to Karch.

The existing work 2K Sports has done with its own NBA games helped add and refine signature player animations in Playgrounds 2. It’s also helped provide dedicated servers for online match-making and streamline the in-game purchases – which are mostly cosmetic items.

As for the future of Playgrounds, Karch said the series is likely to continue on:

I will say that 2K is not interested in one-offs…They see the long-term potential for this game.

Are you looking forward to NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 when it arrives on 16th October? Did you play the original game by Saber Interactive? Tell us in the comments.

Random: McFarlane Toys Is Releasing Fortnite Action Figures

Last month, it was announced Hasbro – the biggest toy maker in the world – would be releasing officially licensed Fortnite Nerf blasters in Spring 2019. Adding to this was the reveal of Fortnite-themed Monopoly – now available in all good toy stores.

In an interview with IGN at 2018’s New York Comic-Con, Todd McFarlane – legendary comic book creator and the man behind McFarlane Toys – revealed his own company would be releasing action figures based on Epic Games’ free-to-play battle royale title. The figurines will be released in waves, with the plan to eventually compress the time between the characters that drop in the game and release on shelves in action figure form. Todd made the following comments about the Fortnite brand:

I’ve been dealing with toys for over 20 years, and I’ve never had a brand this huge be so open to just creating new stuff – they were excited and I was twice as excited…2019 is going to be a big year for us.

At this point in time, no price or release date for the figurine line has been announced, but the aim is to get them out on shelves by this year’s holiday season. Take a look at a look at the concept product below:

Hamster’s Arcade Archives Producer Was Surprised By Nintendo’s Cooperation

Japanese publisher Hamster Corporation has become known over the years for reviving classic video games and adding modern touches to each one. Its recent focus on Nintendo’s retro library for the Switch eShop has been well-received so far.

In an interview with Famitsu, Arcade Archives series’ Producer Satoshi Hamada revealed how Nintendo’s cooperation and shared philosophy made it happen:

I’ve always wanted to release a collection of famous Nintendo arcade titles via the ‘Arcade Archives’ series. With that wish and also Nintendo’s cooperation, we were finally able to make that a reality. When it was finally decided we would do it, I think I was more surprised than anyone.

The ‘Arcade Archives’ series was established with the aim of looking back into the past and restoring classic arcade games. This is just my guess, but I think a common ethos is one reason we succeeded.

I think being allowed to port Nintendo’s titles [also] has a lot to do with a history we share… on the Wii U we released games on the Virtual Console.

Hamada went on to explain how generally the older the game is, the harder it is when trying to negotiate a deal and republish it. There are also often issues when the data has not been preserved:

In those cases we acquire the original circuit boards and work from there. But honestly there are also plenty of cases where we can’t acquire those circuit boards and so can’t republish the game at all.

Are you a fan of Hamster’s Arcade Archives series? Have you bought any of the Nintendo releases so far? Tell us below.

Skybound Games Will Finish The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Since mass layoffs at Telltale Games, the company has been trying to work out a way to finish The Walking Dead. Not long ago, it was revealed Telltale had potentially been thrown a lifeline when multiple partners stepped forward and expressed interest in helping see The Final Season through to completion.

It’s now been confirmed Skybound Games will take over the publishing and development of the final episodes of The Walking Dead. Creator of The Walking Dead and also the founder of Skybound Entertainment Robert Kirkman made it official at New York’s Comic-Con:

We’ll be taking over Telltale’s ‘The Walking Dead’ to finish Clem’s story…We can’t lose Clementine and Rick in the same year.

The news was also confirmed over on the Skybound Twitter account, with the company revealing it would be responsible for completing Clem’s journey. The aim is to keep the original development team intact as Skybound works with former Telltale leaders to come to an agreement. According to Variety, Skybound has never used in-house developers on its games before.

Multiplatform entertainment company Skybound was founded in 2010 to develop properties across multiple forms of media including film, television and video games. Skybound Games was only established earlier this year to assist development.

Random: Super Mario Odyssey Hack Allows Player To Stack 200 Goombas

Ever wondered what 200 Goombas stacked on top of each other looks like? Well, wonder no more! As reported by Kotaku, “video game developer and dissector” Skelux has stacked this exact amount of Goombas in the Switch game, Super Mario Odyssey. As can be seen in the video above, the results are terrifyingly wobbly. The same rules still apply – with Mario being able to take control of the tower thanks to the help of Cappy. The tower is so tall, in fact, that it doesn’t even fit on the screen.

As noted in the video, the Switch and game can handle no more than 200 Goombas at a time, even in a hacked state. Any more than this and the system crashes. It is clear it’s struggling to process all those Goombas on-screen at once. Arguably the best moment is around the 1:40 mark when Mario performs the most “satisfying” ground pound ever.

Has this got you in the mood to stack or perhaps even ground pound some Goombas? Are you still enjoying Super Mario Odyssey? Tell us in the comments.
