Beyond Launch

In just mere days, Destiny 2: Forsaken will arrive, ushering in a host of new experiences and major upgrades aimed at transforming nearly every aspect of the game. We’ve already spoken a lot about Forsaken’s key features and updates, but we wanted to take a moment prior to launch to provide you with some additional details about what you can expect beyond day one. To tee up that conversation, we’ve recruited a handful of developers to take you through our plans, from the 2.0 update that went live today, through our current plans for seasons and the annual pass.

Seasons of Change

Destiny 2: Forsaken kicks off the Season of the Outlaw. Once you’ve completed the campaign, hunted down the Barons, secured some of your favorite new weapons, and explored the new worlds and the challenges that await, you can expect to see us continue updating the game with new activities and rewards. We’ve also hidden away many surprises for you to discover, and the information and roadmap below aren’t intended to spoil them, but rather to give you a broad sense of what’s to come.

After Season of the Outlaw concludes, each subsequent three-month Season will usher in a month-over-month roll out of new experiences, events, rewards, and activities, most of which will be available for free to every Destiny 2 player.

Annual Pass

The Forsaken Annual Pass is different than the traditional post-launch Destiny expansions we’ve delivered in years past. Black Armory, Joker’s Wild and Penumbra will offer a range of different experiences that consist of new endgame activities and modes, discovery, and challenges that escalate, ebb, and flow over time, with each offering prestigious rewards.

Annual Pass content will release throughout the year, working in concert with our free Seasons to help keep the world alive and fresh. Black Armory, Joker’s Wild, and Penumbra each deliver multiple beats that span the length of a given Season. We believe the overall experience will feel markedly different to Destiny players, in a really good way.

Below is our first Forsaken-era post launch roadmap. It includes a short hit list of what you can expect in the coming weeks, and a look at what’s on tap in the months beyond. Once again, it’s not intended to spoil the surprises, but it should give you a good idea of our commitment to supporting Destiny 2 in Year 2.

Like our previous roadmaps, we’ll continue to update you with additional details and changes as these experiences continue to shape up and come together.

Keep an eye out for more detailed scheduling and information covering the Season of the Outlaw soon, and more information about the follow-on seasons and Annual Pass in the months ahead. As always, we’ll be listening intently to your feedback, updating the game with an eye toward continuous improvement, and playing and experience the game as part of this remarkable community.

Weapons

Developer Insight: With Forsaken, we’ve made a major change to the systems—the freedom to slot powerful weapons in either the Kinetic slot or Energy slot. This fundamental change necessitated a fresh look at a player’s damage output in both PvE and PvP.

  • Primary ammo weapons and Special ammo weapons may exist in either the Kinetic or Energy slot.
  • Heavy ammo weapons can exist only in the Power slot.
  • Ammo type and damage type are now fixed attributes of a specific weapon.

Developer Insight: The tuning of Destiny weapons and abilities is inexorably tied to the systems that we build upon. • Legacy players will still be able to enable modifiers via the Challenge Card, but scoring will be disabled in the 270 Power Nightfall

Raids

Developer Insight: Our goal with the changes was to provide players with an opportunity for heroic moments where they can carry the fireteam to victory at the end of the encounter. Players are still incentivized to resurrect their teammates as quickly as possible but brings back the chance for one player to bring down the boss while everyone else is dead.

Revive Mechanics

  • A fireteam has a total of 2:30 seconds to revive fallen team mates during a given Raid encounter
    • This time is only refreshed if a fireteam wipes
  • If a player is not revived within the time remaining, the fireteam is wiped to “Shared Fate”
  • Each player has one token that they may use to revive a player
  • Multiple players being dead does not increase the speed of the timer

Letter From Cayde

[scrawled on a page torn out of The Lone Star Ranger by Zane Grey]

Ikora, Zavala:

If you’re reading this, shame on you. You didn’t notice me slip out the back door. Step up your game, my buddies.

Here’s the play. I’m going back to the Reef. Not just for a mission or two—I’ll be staying there for a few days to help out our old pal Petra Venj with a few things. Nothing too serious, just picking up some patrol slack.

As always, you know the conditions of my Dare, bla bla bla. If I need any backup, I’ll hit up my favorite Guardian. Enough said.

Zavala, have you figured out your tell yet? I’d let you know, but Sundance says you gotta figure it out on your own. You know what a tough little Ghost she is. How about this: play a few rounds with Banshee while I’m gone. I’ll betcha a gold engram he’ll figure out your tell in three hands. If you drop more than four Ks of Glimmer he might just take pity on you and tell you what it is.

Ikora, I left my Sparrow with Holliday, and I’m afraid she’s gonna replace my Tharsis thrusters with some of that fancy new crap the wingheads are into these days. Could you mosey on by, make sure she doesn’t get too enthusiastic? I’ll owe you one. Another one.

See you starside.

XOXOXOXO

You miss me already, huh? If you’re looking for another excuse to shirk your Vanguard duties I’ll play along.

By the way, thought you’d be interested in this report from Paladin Oran:

This is a quality assurance follow-up about your recent experience with Cayde’s Six. How thoroughly did Cayde and his six compadres capture those Barons? Please select all that apply:

>Perfectly in every way

>Songs are already being composed about your triumphs

>So thoroughly that I’m finally ready to admit that I’m in love with you, you dashing metal man

I’ll await your answer by return ping.

But seriously, PV, you got more problems than eight Barons right now. And Mansanas’ latest says a Red Legion splinter group got into their heads that the Reef’d make a good summer home.

Here’s an idea—I could come back out to the Reef, do a few patrols. Free you up to focus on your birdwatching.

You know I’d love the excuse to leave the Tower again. Just hit me up.

Please.

Pretty please?

This Week At Bungie – 8/23/2018

This week at Bungie, we witnessed a Gunslinger’s last stand.

Earlier today we showed you another glimpse of Cayde-6, surrounded by Barons, fighting off a barrage of enemies. Take a look.

You will be able to experience the full story of Cayde’s fate and claim your revenge when Forsaken launches on September 4.

That wasn’t the only thing we showed off on the Blizzard stage at gamescom—we also announced an upcoming 24-hour Gambit Trial that is free to all players of Destiny 2.

If you want to give Gambit a try before Forsaken, the competitive co-op activity will be on full display September 1.

Gambit 24-Hour Trial

Begins: 10 AM PDT September 1

Ends: 10 AM PDT September 2

You will have to wait until after September 4 to start earning Gambit-specific rewards and ranking up your Infamy, but you will still see some Year 1 reward drops. Gambit stats will not be recorded during the 24-hour trial, but they will be available for tracking on bungie.net after September 4.

About That Time

Many of you have been reaching out with questions about start times and dates. You want to know the exact time you will be able to start hunting down Uldren and his Barons, and then, when you can turn your might toward whatever horrors await you within the raid.

On September 4, there will be a day one patch that players will need to download before they can play Forsaken. Destiny 2 will be brought down for maintenance at 7 AM PDT, and we anticipate that the patch will become available to players on all platforms by 7:30 AM PDT. Maintenance will end at 10 AM PDT, and assuming you have completed your download, you can start playing Forsaken at that time.

The next date we know you want to circle on your calendar is when the raid will open up and when the race for World First will begin. Here is Senior Designer Joe Blackburn to tell you more.

Joe: Forsaken is proof that the full Destiny 2 experience is just beginning when the campaign comes to a close. With so many new things to do and so much Power to gain, we knew that players would need more than just three days to prepare for the incredible challenges of Forsaken’s raid. That’s why “Last Wish,” the next chapter in Destiny’s raiding legacy, goes live on September 14 at 10 AM PDT, a week and a half after you’ll have first set foot on the Tangled Shore. Good luck, Guardians.

Mod Squad

There has been some confusion about the new mods coming on September 4. Many of you are asking what gear will take mods and what will happen to the old mods when the new hotness arrives. We brought in Design Lead Joe Shamrock to answer these questions.

Ham Slamrick: Hey everybody! I’m back on this beautiful “TWAB before ‘THE TWAB BEFORE’”—if you catch my meaning—to paint you a clearer picture regarding Year 2 mods…

The first thing we need to do is to properly set expectations for the acquisition of Year 2 mods. We want mods to be more meaningful customizations to your gear that allow you to make it your own. As you’ve likely seen from the combat stream, we’ve added several options that will let you adapt your arsenal to your style of play.

Although the stream showcased a huge stockpile of mods, when you can’t give yourself an unlimited number of mods using a debug build, you’ll find these items are intentionally rare. Those of you who are Smaugly sitting atop a pile of mod components will be able to stock up on some Year 2 mods from the Gunsmith. The rest of us, however, will slowly mod our way to victory one hard-earned drop after another.

Specifically, Year 2 mods come from the following sources:

  • All Exotic armor drops, regardless of year, have a chance to come equipped with a mod.
  • Non-raid Year 2 Legendary weapons and armor drops have a small chance to come equipped with a mod.
      • You are free to keep the weapon, should that particular weapon-and-mod combo suit your needs, or you may choose to dismantle the weapon to break out the mod for use elsewhere.
          • You may pull mods out of gear for use in other gear by dismantling the original item they dropped in.
          • Alternatively, should you want the item but not the mod, you can choose to slot in a new mod over the old one.
      • Weapons and armor purchased from vendors do not come with mods.
  • If you have the mod components and Glimmer necessary to feed your habit, you may choose to go straight to Banshee-44, the Gunsmith, who will have two mod packages available for purchase:
      • Direct-buy Year 2 armor mod (updated daily)
      • Direct-buy Year 2 weapon mod (updated daily)
      • You may acquire mod components for trading with Banshee-44 by dismantling other loose mods:
          • Armor:
              • Year 2 armor mods always drop one mod component when dismantled.
              • Year 1 Legendary armor mods always drop one mod component when dismantled.
              • Year 1 Rare armor mods have a small chance of dropping one mod component when dismantled.
          • Weapons:
              • Year 2 weapon mods always drop one mod component and Legendary shards when dismantled.
              • Year 1 Legendary weapon mods always drop one mod component and Gunsmith materials when dismantled.
              • Year 1 Rare weapon mods have a small chance to drop one mod component and Gunsmith materials when dismantled.

Finally, this one goes out to the Year 2 armor mods and the Year 1 armor that loves them…

As of the launch of Forsaken on September 4:

  • Year 1 armor mods in your inventory will cease to work but can be dismantled or traded for materials.
  • Year 1 armor mods currently slotted into your Year 1 armor will cease to work but remain slotted into the armor (see below).

  • Year 2 armor mods will be able to be slotted into both Year 1 and Year 2 armor mod slots.

And that’s the deal with mods.

Trials of the Nine

Following the weekend of August 24, Trials of the Nine will be on hiatus and the Trophy/Achievement “Lest Ye Be Judged” will not be available to players who have not yet unlocked it.

Players who wish to unlock this Trophy/Achievement before Trials of the Nine goes on hiatus will need to win 1 Trials of the Nine match this upcoming weekend of August 24 and meet the Emissary of the Nine at the Third Spire before the start of maintenance on Tuesday 8/28.

Solstice Armor

Last week, we confirmed that players will be able to Masterwork their Legendary Solstice Armor (Resplendent) after Solstice of Heroes ends on August 28. This week, we are going over some known issues that players may encounter trying to Masterwork this armor set after Solstice of Heroes ends.

  • Players will not be able to complete the Prestige Nightfall objective between 8/28 and 9/4 due to strike scoring being unavailable
  • After 9/4, the Heroic Strikes playlist is being retired for a single, adjustable strike hopper. Players will need to complete strikes in this new playlist with at least one clanmate to unlock this Masterwork objective.
  • Valor ranks reset at the conclusion of Season 3 on 9/4. If players do not unlock their Masterwork for achieving Legend in their Valor ranking by the end of Season 3, their Valor rank will reset, and they will have to begin anew in Season 4.
      • As a reminder, to complete this Masterwork objective, players must max out their Valor ranking with a Valor score of 2,000, then complete one more match.

Players can expect more information about changes leading up to the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken in next week’s Player Support Report.

It’s time to fire up the reel. We have the movies, you have the eyeballs. Let’s introduce them. All of these movies are created by the community, and everyone who worked on them will receive a special emblem for their efforts. For your chance at winning Movie of the Week, submit your movie to the Creations page.

On to the movies.

Movie of the Week: Ultimate Teamtage

Honorable Mention: Cayde-6 Time-Lapse Drawing

Before we go, here are last week’s top Nightfall scores. Remember, Nightfall scoring will be disabled next week.

We’re close now. Next week, everyone gets to experience some of the major system and sandbox changes coming to Destiny 2. Forsaken comes in hot off the heels of that release, and you will have a little more breathing room to get raid ready for September 14.

I’m looking forward to playing some Gambit with the community during our 24-hour trial. Keep an eye on bungie.net next week, and I will post a sign-up sheet if you want a chance to play in my fireteam. No invasion experience needed.

We will also be at PAX next week! If you are attending, swing by our booth. We are going to do some signing and Gambit will be playable. The Bungie store will also be there with Destiny themed merchandise. We’ll see you there!

This Week at Bungie – 8/16/18

This week at Bungie, we’re heading to gamescom.

The away team is all packed up and ready to ship out to Köln, Germany, for a week of community love and Gambit trials. Our booth will be home to some friendly skirmishes. We’ll host as many Guardians as we can. We’ll find some moments to show you some things you have yet to see and tell you some things you have yet to hear. Keep your eyes on our social channels next week!

Not all of us will be battling jetlag and minions of Darkness. Here at home base, Forsaken is in the very final stages of development. We’re applying finishing touches, and we know there are still some questions you want answered before the Prison of Elders is breached.

Let’s introduce you to the devs with the details for this week.

Known by All

Many of you have asked about how rewards will work in Gambit. We’ve seen questions as to whether it will feature a ranking system akin to Valor or Glory in the Crucible. Senior Designer Robbie Stevens and Test Lead Sam Dunn can answer these questions with an explanation of Infamy ranks.

Robbie: With Forsaken just around the corner, Gambit will soon be unleashed into the wild. I wanted to discuss our high-level goals for the mode:

      • Fuse the best aspects of PvE and PvP into a brand-new activity that you can experience only in Destiny 2
      • Make the mode accessible to players of all skill levels, but give it depth and variety that will keep even the most hardcore Guardians coming back for more
      • There’s always a role to play; whether it’s slaying enemies, scooping up Motes, or invading, there’s always a way to contribute to your team’s success
      • Communication isn’t required, but strategy and quick thinking are just as important as thumb-skill
      • Always make it possible for teams that fall behind to come back, so they don’t become discouraged

Gambit was designed with replayability and variety as a core part of the experience, but we knew that wasn’t enough. Players need desirable loot to chase and a way to show their dedication. So, with that in mind, we created our very own ranking system: Infamy.

At a high level, Infamy is:

      • A progression-based ranking system where completing matches earns you points
          • Winning matches will greatly accelerate your climb, while losing matches still earns you points, just fewer than if you win
      • An experience that rewards players with unique Gambit weapons and armor

We’ve been watching the response to the Valor ranking system in the Crucible. A lot of this new work takes that community feedback into account. At this point, I’m going to pass it to Sam, who pulled double duty to design and test the Infamy ranking system.

Sam: To start, we’ve designed Infamy ranks to be more granular by splitting most of the familiar ranks into three tiers. This will allow players to work toward shorter-term goals that are achievable in a few play sessions, rather than over many weeks. It also gives us more opportunities to grant rewards. The Guardian, Brave, Heroic, Fabled, and Mythic ranks will all have three tiers. The Legend rank will remain as one solid chunk.

Apart from this major change, Infamy ranks will function very much like Valor ranks:

      • Each rank will require more Infamy points to complete than the last
      • Win streaks award bonus points
      • Your win streak caps at 5 and doesn’t get reset until you lose a match
      • Your win streak won’t be reset if you join a match in progress

In addition to completing matches, you can also earn Infamy by completing Gambit bounties. Each day, the Drifter will have a selection of daily bounties available for sale that will award Infamy points, as well as other rewards. He’ll also sell a special weekly bounty once you reach Level 50. The weekly bounty will award a large number of Infamy points and a piece of powerful gear. This allows you to always be making progress toward Legend, no matter what your short-term goals are.

Guardians notorious enough to catch the Drifter’s eye by climbing the Infamy ranks will be able to earn some pretty sweet gear.

Guardians who have tried Gambit in the wild have given it high marks for fun. At the same time, we know you well enough to know that a worthwhile reward is another crucial ingredient in a recipe that brings you back to the fight again and again. We hope to see you in Gambit when it launches with Forsaken!

“Magnificent!”

During our combat reveal stream, we used the Crucible as a proving ground to show off how new weapon systems and tuning will affect the way we fight in all activities as Guardians in Year 2 of Destiny 2. The updates to the tools of the trade are not the only changes you can expect in the arenas that pit players against players. Senior Crucible Designer Kevin Yanes is here to be accountable for how you’ll distinguish yourselves and earn awesome rewards in glorious combat.

Kevin: I’m glad to have the chance to talk to you all about Crucible ranks going forward. This past season of gameplay has taught us a lot about what has worked well and where we can do better. As we kick off the next season, we’re excited to give players new ranks to earn! Let’s dive right into the goals we had for designing the Crucible rank system in Season 4 and the changes that they generated:

Goal: Make earning a high rank in Glory NOT feel like your second job

Changes:

      • Glory rank points gained and lost have been re-tuned to reduce the overall climb to higher ranks
      • The weekly award has been fixed and its gains have been doubled

Goal: Recognize the achievements of players who did not receive their weekly awards in Season 3

Changes:

      • Players who competed in Season 3 will earn bonus rank points for completing their first match in Season 4
      • Does not require completion of any previous weekly milestones

Goal: Encourage more players to strive for higher Glory ranks

Changes:

      • Losses in the Competitive playlist no longer reset your Valor win streak
      • Radar has been reenabled during Competitive gameplay
      • Control and Clash modes have been added to the Competitive playlist
      • Loss streaks have been removed
      • We are currently investigating activity reconnections to Competitive Crucible for players who encounter an error midgame; this will not be available at the launch of Forsaken, but we are looking to add this feature postlaunch

Goal: Remove the time pressures associated with Glory ranks

Changes:

      • Pinnacle Crucible rewards are now awarded via quests
          • Some of these quests will ask you to engage with Valor or Glory ranks
          • These quests will NOT go away at the end of the season
      • Redrix’s Claymore is being retired in Season 4
          • Players who already earned the weapon will still be able to equip and use it
          • Players will be unable to earn Redrix’s Claymore beyond Season 3
      • Shaxx will offer a new quest that players can complete to earn Redrix’s Broadsword, a companion weapon to Redrix’s Claymore
          • Redrix’s Broadsword features a similar talent arrangement, but it does not share the lore and Triumphs associated with Redrix’s Claymore
          • Once you’ve earned the weapon, random roll versions of Redrix’s Broadsword will start dropping from Crucible engrams
          • Each drop will have the fixed Outlaw + Desperado combination
          • Each drop will also have randomized barrels, magazines, and Masterwork perks
      • Players who earned Redrix’s Claymore in Season 3 will receive additional bonuses
          • Owners of Redrix’s Claymore will be granted an exclusive emblem when redeeming the corresponding Triumph
          • Claymore owners will be eligible for drops of Redrix’s Broadsword from Crucible engrams even without completing the corresponding quest
      • A new Crucible reward will be added via a quest in Season 4

Goal: Continue to promote Rumble as a third mode

Changes:

      • Earning a place in the Top 3 in Rumble will now count as a win
      • The correct number of Valor rank points will be granted

If you committed to any of the rank ladders we established in Season 3, thanks for making the fight lively. We love supporting the competitive community, no matter your skill or mood. Keep your feedback coming, and we’ll keep making the Crucible a place where you submit to some of the finest tests of skill that Destiny has to offer players.

—Kevin

You heard him.

Getting Social

Since the original launch of Destiny 2, we’ve been reporting your feedback on Guided Games and matchmaking systems to our Social team. Today, Design Lead Steve Dolan will be detailing changes that will make it easier to keep your Fireteam together. He also has news for how Clan features will be updated in Forsaken.

Steve: I want to fill you in on changes coming to social systems before we start our Forsaken adventure together.

We’re bringing back a feature that many have asked for on many occasions. Fireteams that are formed in some activities will stay together once the activity is complete. This applies to the following:

      • Strikes
      • Gambit
      • Crucible

Note: This does not apply to Competitive Crucible. Additionally, if a Crucible match ends by a mercy ruling, or the scores are wildly disproportional, players will be put back into matchmaking to find a new team.

Activity Reconnections

Starting with Forsaken, if you disconnect from a Guided Game, you’ll be offered the opportunity to reconnect to the activity if it is still active. We’ll reserve your slot for up to three minutes. After that, Guides will be able to backfill the Guided Game with Seekers that are currently in queue.

In Guided Raids, these reconnections will help with individual player disconnects. In the case that an entire Fireteam disconnects, we want to minimize the impact to raid teams. Going forward, players will be able to take their raid checkpoints out of Guided Games and use them in the normal version of the raid. If you all disconnect, form up your Fireteam again and head into the normal version to continue on your path of total raid destruction.

Clans Update

Since launch, 50% of you have hit max rank in your Clans each season. Going into Forsaken, there are two major things we wanted to improve with Clans:

      • Give you more reasons to play with your clanmates
      • Make clan perks more interesting

How you earn Clan XP is changing. When you start your journey in Forsaken, Hawthorne will have three daily bounties. They can be completed alone or with a Fireteam to grant a small amount of Clan XP. Once your character reaches level the new 50, Hawthorne will add three additional weekly bounties that grant larger amounts of Clan XP, but require you to fireteam up with your clanmates.

Here is a preview of the new clan perks for Season 4 that will be more impactful and worth the time it takes to achieve them.

      • Rank 3: Increased resilience when you’re in a fireteam with clanmates.
      • Rank 5: Grants a chance to receive additional Etheric and Baryon resources when collecting them in the Reef.
      • Rank 6:  The weekly clan milestone also grants a Masterwork Core.

Express Yourself

And of course, we’ve been busy making sure you’ll be able to express yourself to other Guardians in the world come Forsaken. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming on September 4.

If you don’t have a Clan, someone is always recruiting. You’re missing out on another roster of willing teammates, a whole shared loot stream, as well as all these new features.

Going out with a Bang

Next week, a new mode will be featured in Crucible Labs, and we’re expecting explosive results. Senior Designer Andrew Weldon is here to set the stage for your final lab session of Season 3.

Andrew: This past weekend, you got a chance to play the updated version of Showdown. This iteration contained updates based on your feedback and our own observations. Like Lockdown, we’ll gather as much information as we can and start making decisions as to our next steps and will update you when we have more to share.

We’ve received feedback on both Lockdown and Showdown that both modes felt too tilted toward the Competitive playlist style of gameplay – 4v4, round-based, higher stakes, etc. And you’re right – that was the target experience for both modes. This next time around, however, we’re going to swing the pendulum the other way…

Our next Crucible Labs will be the mode Scorched. This mode has a very deep, complex, and serious rule set:

      • You spawn with a Scorch Cannon
      • Everyone else spawns with a Scorch Cannon
      • You shoot each other with said Scorch Cannons

Seriously, that’s it

Our designers were so pre-occupied with whether or not we could, we didn’t stop to think if we should.

Tuesday, 8/21 at 10 a.m. PT: Free-for-all

Friday, 8/24 at 10 a.m. PT: 6v6

This is a wild and zany mode, but one that we’ve had a ton of fun playing here at Bungie. We hope you’ll also have a blast with this mode as the final Labs offering before Year 2 begins.

Scanning…

Update 2.0 is just around the corner, followed by Forsaken a week later. Destiny Player Support has a forecast for what to expect on the week between, where you may notice a few hiccups in the experience.

This is their report.

Hotfix 1.2.3.2 Recap

This week, to address issues blocking some players from upgrading their Solstice Armor at the Statue of Heroes, we deployed Destiny 2 Hotfix 1.2.3.2
Upon installing this hotfix, some players on PC reported seeing odd behavior in the character screen. With the conclusion of the Hotfix 1.2.3.2 deployment we expect issues causing this behavior to be resolved, however, players who continue to be affected should try running Scan and Repair from the Blizzard launcher.
Players who encounter other issues following this hotfix should report them to the #Help forum.

Resplendent Masterworks

Last week, we confirmed that Solstice Armor can no longer be upgraded after the conclusion of Solstice of Heroes. This week, we can confirm that players will be able to complete objectives to masterwork their Legendary Solstice Armor (Resplendent) after Solstice of Heroes ends on August 28.

This will require players to have already upgraded to their Legendary Solstice Armor (Resplendent), since the Statue of Heroes will no longer be available to upgrade the Scorched and Rekindled sets. As a reminder, these armor sets only generate elemental orbs during Solstice of Heroes.

Lastly, players should be aware that Valor ranks reset at the conclusion of Season 3. If players do not unlock their masterwork for achieving Legend in their Valor ranking by the end of Season 3, their Valor rank will reset and they will have to begin anew in Season 4.

For more details on Solstice of Heroes, players should visit our Vital Information thread.

Forsaken Preparation

To set the table for the launch of Forsaken on September 4, all players will be prompted to accept Destiny 2 Update 2.0.0 on August 28.

As Destiny 2 crosses into its second year, players may observe a number of issues in the week between August 28 and September 4. While we are working to document known issues for this week-long transition, players should be prepared for some general turbulence.

To set expectations, here is a sampling of issues confirmed for the week leading up to Forsaken, starting on August 28:

      • Exotic weapons will lose their +5 Power mod in preparation for the Year 2 mod system, but Legendary weapons will not until September 4
      • Nightfall strikes will not have scoring until September 4
      • Some tooltips and item descriptions may reflect Year 2 item behavior, even if item functionality is not updated until September 4
      • Some tooltips and item descriptions may reflect Year 1 item behavior until September 4, even if item functionality has already been updated for Year 2
      • Year 2 weapon slots will be live for all players, which may cause some weapons in players’ inventories to go to their Postmaster
          • All players should ensure their Postmasters are clear by August 28 to prevent loss of items
          • Some Year 1 Power weapons which previously had an elemental attribute will become Kinetic for Year 2
          • The elemental attributes for a handful of targeted Year 1 weapons will be changed and locked to a specific attribute for Year 2
          • All other Year 1 Energy and Power weapons in players’ inventories will have their elemental attributes locked for Year 2

Players can expect more details about the week leading into Forsaken in next week’s Player Support Report.

Splice it together

With just a few short weeks until Forsaken releases, we’re seeing some great plays in the Crucible being shared amongst the Community. While weapons slots and sandbox changes are imminent, we still want to tip the hat to those who’ve been showcasing skill through the first year of Destiny 2. Not only skill with a controller, but also in for form of awesome artwork being posted to the Creations Page.

Movie of the Week: If Destiny 2 had an Anime Opening!

Honorable Mention: Rest well, Cayde.

Honorable Mention: Look at this Titan main.

If you’d like a chance to earn the Lens of Fate emblem, make sure to submit your video to the Creations page on bungie.net and include #MOTW in your title.

Here are last week’s top scores for the Nightfall

Tomorrow, 3x Valor kicks off at 10AM in the Crucible. 12 days left to complete your Moments of Triumph, and your Solstice of Heroes armor sets. Once August 28 rolls around, we’ll be in a new world with Sandbox and Weapon slot changes. Seven short days after that, Forsaken launches. Time flies when you’re having fun, and I have to say, it’s flying fast.

As a final note, I’d like to throw a shoutout to a collection of our community artists. Their work inspires so many of us here at Bungie, and we want to give them the proper spotlight that they deserve.

Cheers,

Dmg04

Community Focus – Relikt

How many times have you found yourself in Crucible, saying “They’re… over there! On my X! By the Power Ammo! No, not that power ammo, the other one!” It can be difficult to communicate exactly where an opponent is, especially in the heat of battle. Our Community Focus this week, Relikt, knows this all too well, and has been building visual guides to assist players in learning callouts for some time now. Let’s dive a bit deeper into the story of this community cartographer.

Eyes up, Guardian. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Relikt: Hi there! My name is Henrik and in my day job, I’m a full-time graphic designer living in Germany and doing mostly stuff with lots of pixels and vectors. In the realm of online gaming, I’m known as Relikt but thanks to the cooperation with my amazing buds over at Crucible Radio most guardians might think of me simply as the official un-official Crucible Cartographer of Destiny 2. And as such, I’m proudly educating my fellow Crucible oriented guardians with callouts and maps since the beginning of the Destiny 2.

What led you to joining up with the Community?

Relikt: I’m one of these rather old Halo veterans with a somewhat competitive background, so naturally I was interested in Bungie’s big new project from the get-go. At first, when the game was revealed I wasn’t too sure what kind of game Destiny was exactly going to become and whether or not it would be my cup of tea. But boy, I can tell you, the moment I first stepped foot into the Destiny Beta, experiencing that unique, bold new universe, the gorgeous Art and most importantly how outstanding the gunplay felt once again, I fell in Love with the game. But what ultimately made me stay wasn’t the rather addicting Crucible, the Trials of Osiris or the brilliant Raid experiences. It was the people I did all that with. I have a wonderful small Clan, the Taken Legends, that we founded back in 2015 and over the years some of those guys and gals in it grew to be good friends of mine. So to me, it really is all about the Friendgame.

Glad to see you’re not too silent of a cartographer. What inspired your first callout map?

Relikt: If I’m completely honest, back in the day when I started my first ever callout map, my sole intention was to create a visually stunning map with a unique art style that was pretty to look at. And sure enough, when I originally posted the finished map of Shores of Time in the Crucible Playbook on Reddit, I got a ton of positive and in some cases actually flattering feedback for it.

At that point, there already were dozens of excellent callout maps from other invaluable members of the community and I simply didn’t have the time and resources to catch up, so I decided to leave it at that for now. After all, for a long long time, Shores of Time remained the only map I ever did. Then when Destiny 2 was eventually announced, I told myself that this time, I was going to seize my chance and become the cartographer who supports the whole community with useful eye candy!

What would you say is your favorite Crucible combat space in Destiny 2?

Relikt: That’s a tough one, but I’d say Endless Vale. It was the very first map I created for Destiny 2 and these Beta-Maps traditionally have a soft spot in my heart too. From a pure aesthetical standpoint, I really love how Solitude, Wormhaven, and Meltdown turned out. Oh, and on a little Side Note, I would LOVE to create a callout map for my all time favorite Destiny map ever too: Twilight Gap. So I wouldn’t be too mad if you decided to bring that one back too! Wink, wink.

Have any advice you’d give to players just getting started?

Relikt: Well, aside from improving the fundamentals like aiming and character movement in general, I feel like map knowledge and beyond that map-awareness are some major skills you need to build over time. A good way to work on that without getting too frustrated is to gather some of your more experienced friends and head into some private matches with them. At first, crucible can be somewhat overwhelming but don’t get disheartened when you lose against better players. Every loss can be an opportunity to learn something. If you see someone pulling off a play you’re not capable of yet, don’t get too frustrated! Instead, let it inspire you to practice – one day someone else will be impressed by something you do too. Good communication and callouts certainly don’t hurt either.

What loadouts are you thinking of running when Forsaken launches?

Relikt: Oh man, don’t even get me started on this! With the new weapon slot system, the possibilities seem endless! Right now, I’m beyond excited to try out these bows you guys keep teasing me with. At first, I was kind of iffy on whether or not they would fit into the “space magic opera” that is Destiny. After seeing a couple of bows in action, I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on them. I think combining that exotic Wishender with a nice hand cannon or an SMG and maybe some Rockets sprinkled in could be very fun and equally effective!

Last call! Any final words of wisdom or shoutouts?

Relikt: Massive shout out to my Clan and my friends, Bones, Birds and Swainstache from Crucible Radio and the whole community in general for their continuous support. It’s my pleasure and I really hope, that the work I’m doing here helps some folks to improve their game and to get a better understanding of these great Crucible Maps and how to play them. On that note, I’m very excited to announce, that I’m going to cover all Gambit Maps (and of course all Crucible maps) too once Forsaken hits. So keep an eye open for that!

Oh and one last thing: “Over there” is NOT a callout! Seriously. It isn’t.

Over there, by the things! Many thanks to Relikt for his time. It’s always awesome to see a skill evolve over time, and these maps will indeed help players to improve their Crucible play. If you have someone in mind, let us know by suggesting them on our

This Week At Bungie – 8/9/2018

This week at Bungie, we demonstrated the evolution of combat in the second year of Destiny 2.

During an action-packed livestream, we showed off the changes that all players can expect, including our new weapon slot system, random rolls, more meaningful weapon mods, and a decreased time to kill in the Crucible (crispy three taps and spicy Devils!). All Destiny 2 players can experience a preview of our sandbox updates on August 28.

One topic that we’ve seen a lot of questions about is how we’ll migrate from old weapon mods to new weapon mods. Starting on August 28, your current mods will be deprecated, and your inventory will tell you that you can safely discard them for materials and parts. On September 4, the Gunsmith’s inventory will be dedicated to new Forsaken mods.

Between now and the preload on August 28, use your Year 1 mods to lock in the elemental damage type you want for your Year 1 weapons. They will retain that damage type after the mod deprecation. On August 28, the old mod slot will go away, and you will no longer be able to insert any mods into Year 1 gear or change the elemental damage type. Some weapons will be moving to the Kinetic Slot and will not retain elemental damage regardless of what mod you had applied. The IKELOS Sniper Rifle and Shotgun will be locked to Solar. Here are the Legendary weapons that will be moving to Kinetic:

  • Baligant
  • Shepherd’s Watch
  • Hawthorne’s Field-Forged Shotgun
  • Alone as a God
  • Perfect Paradox
  • The Frigid Jackal
  • Silicon Neuroma

There is plenty that’s about to change. Right now is a good time for us to set your expectations about a lot of it. This is a big one. Let’s dig in.

Wide Awake and Dreaming

Far away from the Crucible, you’ll find the first dedicated endgame destination we’ve created, home to our largest endgame experience ever.

You’ll discover the Dreaming City in Destiny 2: Forsaken.

How to Become Legend in Year 2

Weapon tuning and systems aren’t the only things that are changing in Forsaken. When your next journey begins, you’ll also discover new ways to earn rewards and become more powerful. The Investment Team can give you a sense for what’s coming.

Investment Team: Here are our high-level goals for progression and economy in Season 4:

  • We want to bring back the days when you are impressed when you see someone at max Power in the Tower.
  • The experience of leveling and then powering up should be meaningful.
  • Players should have a sense of discovery when earning rewards from different activities.
  • When players accomplish something difficult, the rewards should be special or unique.
  • Not all of the sources of Power in a week should be apparent on the Director.

Acquisition of Power

In Year 1, an activity such as the raid would have an absolute range of Power that it could generate. Rewards would grant only a small difference in Power level, even if you were overcoming the challenge while under-leveled. In Forsaken, we are scaling the Power production of all content by the difficulty of that content. If you manage to beat the raid while 40 Power under the recommended level, you should expect to receive more potent rewards.

When players earn powerful rewards, these items should never scale down to where they do not give an increase in Power. Even if your Power is 100 over an activity’s recommended level, it should still grant a reward at least one Power level above your current average. This means that players should still benefit when grouping with teammates who haven’t accomplished as much as they have.

We’ve also created multiple new sources of Power for powerful rewards that refresh on a different cadence than the weekly reset. The goal is to provide more to do for the players who want to play a variety of activities. That said, not every reward you find in the wild will be a powerful upgrade. We don’t want to spoil the entire journey to max Power, so we’ll be leaving it in the hands of the players to discover the best ways to reach endgame and beyond when Forsaken is released.

As a final note on Power, we’ve heard a lot of feedback concerning Exotics. To make these rewards feel more useful, whenever you receive an Exotic reward in Forsaken, it will always be at or above your Guardian’s Power.

Milestones

The Milestone tray has been revamped in Forsaken, and will now specifically show the most important, nonrepeatable quests for every player of Destiny 2. The campaign quests are a good example of this. Meanwhile, our world quests for destinations will now live in the Pursuits section of your character inventory. Many Milestones from Year 1 have been converted to activity challenges. These will continue to grant powerful rewards, but they will no longer be displayed in the Milestone tray. When you access the Director, you’ll see activity challenges in the tooltip of the associated activity.

Activities

The base strike playlist for Destiny 2: Forsaken players has been updated to feature difficulty selection and modifiers. Heroic strikes are being retired on August 28 with Destiny Update 2.0.

  • Forsaken Players
    • The strike playlist has three difficulties to select from:
      • Power 300
      • Power 400
      • Power 500
    • Once you’re 40 Power over a given playlist, it will no longer appear as an option for you to select.
      • This ensures a healthy matchmaking pool when players reach endgame Power levels.
    • The Power 500 playlist will always available.
    • Strikes will have modifiers.
  • Legacy Players
    • The strike playlist matches the legacy playlist that is currently available in Year 1.
    • Recommended Power 200.
    • Strikes will have modifiers.

Between August 28 and September 4, modifiers will be unavailable for all strike playlists.

The Nightfall activity is also being revisited for Season 4. Prestige difficulty is being retired, but the base difficulty for the Nightfall activity will increase. Additionally, players will have the ability to choose one of three Nightfall strikes each week. If there’s a specific Nightfall Unique Reward that a given player is hunting for, this reduces the time they have to wait for the strike to be featured again. While having three options, players may only select the strikes for which they own the appropriate expansions. Legacy players will still be able to enable modifiers via their Challenge Card. Scoring will not be available for legacy players in the 270 Power Nightfall.

Meditations are being retired and replaced with a Heroic story playlist. New campaign missions will be featured at 500 Power, while old campaign missions will be set to a Power level relative to their release. This ensures legacy players can still enjoy story activities at their leisure.

Ikora Rey’s Vanguard Research reputation tokens will no longer be used as a currency after August 28 and will be removed from player inventories. The Legendary parade gear will also no longer be available, so if you want it, get it before August 28.

Heroic adventures are being added to all destinations. When that destination is the Flashpoint, one adventure will be selected to be Heroic per day, with the exceptions of Mercury and Mars. Those two destinations will function as they currently do, but they will gain an additional adventure per day when they’re the featured Flashpoint. Players will no longer be able to purchase normal adventure tokens from vendors on destinations other than Mercury and Mars.

Activity modifiers will be shared across Heroic adventures, Heroic story missions, and strikes. This ensures that each day you know what to expect from the PvE content that you play as a ritual, and that when we balance and tune modifiers it’s happening across the game. This will include one weekly singe, one daily buff, and one daily debuff.

The Brawler and Grenadier modifiers will have their recharge times adjusted to ensure they’re noticeable. Adjusting your equipment for either also has a rather significant impact. We’ve seen some pretty crazy plays by the new Solar Hunter in our playtest. Some experienced players out there may be reminded of the feelings found when they equipped Nothing Manacles in the past.

Economy Updates

For the last few weeks, we’ve seen a lot of players asking about items and currencies available in Year 1 and whether they’ll continue to be available in Year 2 or not. Expect the following changes on August 28, when Destiny Update 2.0 becomes available:

  • Destination materials will become your main source of reputation on their respective destinations.
  • Destination materials will be a part of the cost to infuse different weapons and armor across your arsenal.
  • Year 1 challenges that granted reputation tokens are being retired, but will be replaced by bounties offered on each destination that provide destination materials.
  • Destination tokens and Rare destination materials are no longer awarded, but you can still redeem them for reputation if you have them in your inventory.
  • Anything that previously granted destination tokens or Rare materials will reward Common destination materials moving forward.

The Gunsmith will also be updated in Season 4. In Year 1, this vendor required 40 Gunsmith Materials for one reputation package. This will increase to 100 Gunsmith Materials.

Iron Banner, Vanguard, and Crucible tokens earned in Season 3 may be redeemed at their respective vendors in Season 4. Trials of the Nine will be on hiatus during Season 4, and its reputation tokens will not be redeemable. At this time, we have not yet determined whether its currency will be used when it returns.

It’s Lit Fam

Lord Saladin makes his final appearance in Season 3 next week. This will be your last chance to earn your Season 3 rewards.

Begins: Tuesday, August 14

Ends: Tuesday, August 21

The game, as always, is Control!

There are a few changes to the Iron Banner Control you know and love. Iron Temple fire pits have replaced the usual Control flags. There is also a new Power Play rule where capturing all three zones will lock them down for 20 seconds. At the end of the Power Play, all the zones are reset to neutral and must be recaptured.

Power Enabled

Starting in Season 4, Iron Banner will be updated to enable Power level advantages, like in the days of old. All players of Destiny 2, regardless of expansion ownership, can participate in Iron Banner events. Year 2 rewards, featuring random rolls and compatibility with Year 2 modifications, will also be available to all players. Players who acquire new Power during their adventures in Forsaken will have an advantage, but we don’t want to exclude anyone who wants to compete in Iron Banner and reap the rewards. Iron Banner rewards will be capped for legacy players at their maximum Power available.

Trials of the Nine will be unavailable for the duration of Season 4. The design team is putting it back on the workbench to make it a fitting challenge for the hardcore warrior. When the weekly activity returns, it will feature updated rewards, Power advantages, and other gameplay changes. The final weekend of Season 3 Trials of the Nine will take place on the weekend of August 24.

We’ll tell you more about our goals and our progress during Season 4.

Faction Farewell

In Season 3, we introduced some changes, notably the Renown mechanic, to Faction Rallies. The community responded with a lot of great feedback about how we could continue to improve the experience. The feedback ranged in topic from experience to rewards, but many of you expressed the following:

  • I don’t want to feel forced to participate in every instance of the event each season
  • Make the event progression a bit less hardcore and more engaging

We plan to take that feedback and use it to improve activities and events in the future. When Season 4 begins, Faction Rallies will be on hiatus. This will give us a good opportunity to focus on some other areas of the game that need attention and reevaluate some of the fundamental aspects of the event.

While the Faction Rallies event is on hiatus, faction tokens will not be redeemable. We’ll tell you more about their fate in the future.

For players who were unable to acquire specific Exotic weapon catalysts during previous Faction Rallies, we are working on new ways for you to earn them. They will not be available at the beginning of Season 4, but we will provide more information on where to find these rewards when they do become available.

Eververse

As a new season begins with the launch of Forsaken, Eververse also gets a refresh.

Goals and Philosophies

  • Provide players with more data
    • Share Bright Engram reward probabilities on bungie.net
    • Provide players their private purchase history on bungie.net
  • Give players more choices to earn rewards the way they want
    • Full season of Prismatic Matrix
    • Free weekly Prismatic Facet
  • More Bright Dust earned from new bounties
  • Allow players new ways to customize their Guardians
    • Ghost projections
    • Legendary weapon skins
    • New Exotic ornaments and emotes

Eververse Bounties

Similar to how other bounties work, Tess will start offering bounties that reward Bright Dust to players. Here’s how they work:

  • Each Bright Engram grants one bounty note in Season 4
  • Bounties refresh weekly, but players can acquire as many Eververse bounties as they have bounty notes
  • These Notes can be exchanged for a three different tiers of weekly Eververse bounties
    • Tier 1:
      • Costs 1 Eververse Bounty Note
      • Rewards 20 Bright Dust
    • Tier 2:
      • Costs 3 Eververse Bounty Notes
      • Rewards 70 Bright Dust
    • Tier 3:
      • Costs 6 Eververse Bounty Notes
      • Rewards 150 Bright Dust
  • You can carry one of each type at a time
  • Bounties will expire seven days after acquisition

Prismatic Matrix

The Prismatic Matrix returns in Season 4. We received a lot of feedback that players enjoyed this feature and would have preferred if it had stayed active for all of Season 3. This time, we plan to keep the Prismatic Matrix live all through Season 4. The free weekly Prismatic Facet will be obtained from a special Tier 1 Eververse bounty. This bounty does not require a bounty note and will cost 250 Glimmer. Players will still be able to hold three Prismatic Facets at one time.

Bright Dust

Continuing with the theme of giving players more control over their Bright Dust balance, Bright Dust gained from dismantling Eververse items will be granted at a fixed rate. Players can now reliably dismantle items for specific gains.

Collections and Eververse Items

Eververse items will be retrieved from the Collections interface like all other items. An exception is Year 2 Eververse Armor, which (like all other armor with random rolls) cannot be reacquired from the Collections. The ways in which players acquire and interact with emotes and weapon/armor ornaments have not changed. All other items can be retrieved for an expense of Bright Dust.

Current season Eververse items which have not been acquired will display in the Collections interface until the end of the season. Past season Eververse items which have not been acquired will not display in the Collections interface. This prevents players from having incomplete Collections that cannot be completed.

Bright Engram Updates

New Legendary weapon ornaments have been added to the Bright Engram. These are unlocked account-wide like all other ornaments in the game. A new Ghost Projections category will also be added to Bright Engrams. This account-unlockable item permits players to put a holographic projection badge above their Ghost. This badge is only visible when the player has their Ghost deployed for Navigation Mode. Weapon and armor mods will no longer be dropping from the Bright Engram. In their place, players will now receive bounty notes.

Eververse Armor and Perks

With the addition of Random Perk Rolls on armor, we have made some changes to how perks are applied to Eververse Armor. Eververse Armor acquired from Bright Engrams will have random perks when rewarded. Eververse Armor acquired from sources like the Prismatic Matrix or the Bright Dust Storefront will have fixed perks.

Eververse Leveling Rewards in Forsaken

Like the Red War campaign in Destiny 2, in Forsaken, Bright Engrams will not be earned until you hit the level cap. As players complete pre-Forsaken campaigns they will be rewarded with an Eververse gift package tailored to each experience, which will also include Bright Engrams. Once players reach their level cap, based on what Expansions they own, Bright Engrams will once again be awarded each time a player levels up.

More Labs

Our last experiment in Crucible Labs went well. It’s time to put on your safety goggles and get back in there. Senior Designer Andrew Weldon has the details about what mode will be played in the next Crucible Labs.

Andrew: Hello again!

Hopefully you’re all having an excellent Solstice of Heroes! I’ve been going scorched-Earth with my Dawnblade in my quest for yet another Destiny 2 t-shirt for the collection.

But, even in the midst of the celebration, The Science™ must continue!

Thank you to all of you who played Lockdown in Labs! We saw a very positive feedback trend for the mode overall, but we also received some good feedback on areas to explore for improvement. We’ll be examining that feedback as we continue to close down Forsaken, and we’ll provide updates in the future as we have them.

Speaking of updates… in our first TWAB post discussing the Crucible Labs debut, I spoke about how we started fairly simple with the mode Showdown. We met our goals for the rollout, but as noted, the reception of Showdown itself was fairly mixed. Iteration is a critical phase of development, and we’ve taken some time to iterate a bit on Showdown based on notes we gathered both internally and externally from all of you. Here’s the set of changes we’ve made for this next iteration:

  • The round time limit has been reduced to 90 seconds
  • Rounds now have a score limit of 10
  • Revives are now enabled
  • Reviving a teammate before they respawn will take the point back from your opponents

Whether you played Showdown in the first Labs or this will be your first time in the playlist, we hope you’ll drop in for a few matches and let us know what you think. Hit up the feedback forum with your thoughts after you’ve played!

As with Lockdown, Labs will continue to drop standard Crucible rewards and contribute to your Valor rating, so your time spent here will also count if you’re working through your ranks for the Triumphs and armor. And, of course—you can play the new Showdown right now.

Valor for All

If you’ve been working on your Solstice armor, you may notice a few objectives tied to the Crucible. Once you reach Legendary-tiered armor, your final Crucible objective is to have your Valor rank reset at some point since Crucible Ranks were implemented.

Leading up to the beginning of Year 2, you’ll see multiple opportunities to earn Valor points at an accelerated rate including a special triple Valor Iron Banner weekend. Mark your calendars appropriately:

Double Valor Week

Start: 10 AM PDT on August 10, 2018

End: 10 AM PDT on August 17, 2018

Triple Valor Weekend

Start: 10 AM PDT on August 17, 2018

End: 10 AM PDT on August 21, 2018

Final Double Valor Weekend

Start: 10 AM PDT on August 24, 2018

End: 10 AM PDT on August 28, 2018

Happy hunting, and we hope to see you out there.

Not All Heroes Wear Capes

Player Support is hard at work tracking known issues with the Solstice of Heroes event. If you are blocked, they have the info you need to get back to upgrading your armor.

This is their report.

Destiny 2 Hotfix 1.2.3.2

To resolve issues blocking some players from upgrading their Solstice armor at the Statue of Heroes, we will be deploying Destiny 2 Hotfix 1.2.3.2 on Monday, August 13.

Players who were in this blocked state prior to Hotfix 1.2.3.2 will be able to resolve their issue by interacting with the Statue of Heroes in the Tower once this hotfix has been installed. Please be aware that this hotfix will cause the “Solstice of Heroes” milestone to linger for previously affected players, even after their Solstice Armor is upgraded completely. No rewards will be missed, and this message will disappear when Solstice of Heroes concludes on August 28.

To see the Hotfix 1.2.3.2 deployment schedule when it’s available, players should follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed on help.bungie.net.

Solstice Armor Vital Information

Leading into the second week of Solstice of Heroes, Destiny Player Support began receiving reports from players encountering issues upgrading their Solstice Armor. To speak directly to these concerns, we have listed vital information that players should be aware of when upgrading their armor for Solstice of Heroes:

  • Solstice Armor can only be upgraded during the Solstice of Heroes event, which ends at the weekly reset on August 28.
  • Once players unlock their legendary Solstice armor, they will be presented with the Masterwork upgrade requirement, “Achieve the Legend rank in the Valor Crucible rankings.” To accomplish this, players must max out their Valor ranking with a Valor score of 2,000, then complete one more match.
  • Players who achieved maximum Valor ranking before the start of Solstice of Heroes and/or have previously reset their Valor ranking and whose Legend requirement is not already marked as complete may also need to complete an additional match.
  • Objective percentages on Solstice Armor may round up to the nearest whole digit. If players see that their Solstice Armor displays 100% progress, but is not marked as complete, they should continue performing its listed objective.

Solstice of Heroes and Moments of Triumph Known Issues

Listed below are the latest known issues that players should be aware of during Solstice of Heroes and Moments of Triumph:

  • Some players who achieve 250 Triumph points or more may encounter the bungie.net error “input parameters are invalid” when receiving their Solstice of Heroes T-Shirt code from their bungie.net profile. Players who encounter this error should try accessing their code through the Destiny Companion app. The official Destiny Companion app is available via the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
  • On some mobile devices, players may be unable to see their Solstice of Heroes T-Shirt code when viewing the Destiny Companion app in portrait mode. Affected players should rotate their device into landscape mode to view their code.
  • Players on PC have reported that Redux mission statues in the Tower may sometimes not be interactable when approached, even with a full Solstice Armor set equipped. According to player reports, launching into another activity then returning to the Tower may be a potential workaround.
  • Players on console may encounter an issue in Redux missions Payback and 1AU where the Drake tank does not steer left or right. Players encountering this issue should try clearing their console cache.

Wide Angle

Please silence your cell phones and take note of the emergency exits—the movies are about to begin. Every week, we pick a few of our favorite videos from the Creations page to show off here on the blog for all to see. The winners receive a special Emblem as a reward. If you would like a shot at Movie of the Week, just send your submission into our Creations page

Here are this week’s winners.

Movie of the Week: Faction Rallies Dance Off

Honorable Mention: Bouncing Friend

Before we go, here are last week’s top Nightfall Scores.

It’s been another exciting week. Solstice of Heroes is still in full swing. Iron Banner is starting back up again next week. Fewer than three weeks until the start of Year 2 on August 28, where you will all get your hands on the Sandbox changes to combat we showed off on stream. I’m sure many of you will be able to rock triple shotgun far more effectively than I did.

This TWAB contained a lot of info. We’re sure you still have more questions. We’ll answer some of them in the next few weeks. Others will remain a mystery until you start playing Forsaken on September 4 and finally visit the Dreaming city for yourself.

This Week At Bungie – 08/02/18

This week at Bungie, the celebration has just begun.

We’re watching Guardians return to the Red War with the Solstice of Heroes. You’ve got plentiful objectives to pursue, Moments of Triumph to complete, and new ways to experience campaign missions—and we’re excited to hear your stories. Some of you have already been inspired by some of the changes, which has resulted in some awesome artwork found in the wild:

This is just the beginning of a month-long event; Solstice of Heroes will be available through August 28. That’s ample time to get in and start building up your armor.

Tally Marks

The community stories from Solstice of Heroes aren’t the only thing that we’re watching. Our Analytics team has helped us to bring forward some statistics from Season 3. From the looks of it, Uldren had better start running…

Checking Them Off, One by One

As Year 1 comes to a close, many of you are searching for every available item or piece of gear that can be found in Destiny 2. Some items will still be available in Season 4, such as destination weapons and armor sets. Other Year 1 items will be retired from vendors when Destiny 2: Forsaken releases on September 4, 2018:

    • Vanguard
      • Year 1 weapons
      • Year 1 armor
      • Seasonal rewards
    • Crucible
      • Year 1 weapons
      • Year 1 armor
      • Seasonal rewards
    • Gunsmith
      • Year 1 weapons
      • Year 1 mods, which will no longer be obtainable
      • Year 1 emblems
    • Ikora (Vanguard Research Packages from Meditations)
      • Year 1 armor
      • Year 1 emblems
    • Trials of the Nine
      • Year 1 weapons
      • Year 1 armor
      • Year 1 shaders
      • Year 1 ships, Sparrows, and Ghost Shells
    • Iron Banner
      • Year 1 weapons
      • Year 1 armor
      • Year 1 shaders
      • Year 1 ships, Sparrows, and Ghost Shells
    • Cayde’s Stashes
      • Year 1 emblems

While these Year 1 items will be retired from vendors, their stock with be refreshed with new gear featuring random rolls, ready for all players to earn in Year 2. Some items may return in Year 2, but not exactly as you remember them. Come September 4, a small number of weapons that you know and love will be updated to Year 2 standards, featuring random rolls and the capacity to accept Year 2 weapon modifications.

As a final note, players who have obtained these Year 1 items can infuse them to higher power levels in Year 2. If you’re looking to finish your checklist, make sure to read this week’s Community Focus on DestinySets.com. This fan-made website can be linked with your Bungie.net account to give a full list of items you have yet to acquire—helping you to finish off your Year 1 collection before Forsaken releases.

Destiny 2: Forsaken Combat Stream

We know all this talk about new weapons and new mods has you wondering what combat will be like in the second year of Destiny 2. Rather than try to explain the new sandbox, we’re going to show you.

Tune in and watch as we configure our Guardians to play a specific role in the arena. Catch a glimpse of the new user interface you’ll employ to choose your weapon and modify it. Spectate a battle between developers on a new Crucible map to debut in Season 4.

There will be blood.

Celebration Coordinators

From the moment Solstice of Heroes began, the watchful eye of Destiny Player Support has been trained on the #Help forum, monitoring for any reports of issues during the celebration. Not only is the team ready to provide troubleshooting steps, but they also have some helpful tips for Guardians looking to maximize their orb generation.

This is their report:

Elemental Orb Generation

Solstice of Heroes is now live in Destiny 2. Included with this event are elemental alignments, which allows players to generate and stack elemental orbs to increase their damage output with the matching element for a short time. Additionally, players must collect Arc, Solar, and Void orbs in various activities to complete objectives attached to their Solstice Armor set.

While these orbs are generated randomly by defeating enemies, here are a few tips on how you can make sure you’re generating the orbs of a desired element:

  • Orbs are generated only by players who have an entire Solstice Armor set equipped (of any quality).
  • Elemental orb generation does not require Super ability kills or Masterwork weapon kills. Players can potentially generate orbs on any kill, as long as they are wearing their full Solstice Armor set.
  • Elemental orbs are generated based off of the player’s equipped subclass, as well as their equipped Energy and Power weapons. If, for example, you wanted to generate only Solar orbs, changing your loadout to all-Solar helps you accomplish this. Kinetic weapons can also generate orbs based off of the player’s loadout.
  • You can generate and receive elemental orbs from local allies. If you’re travelling in a fireteam, coordinating elements can help you more aggressively progress through elemental orb pursuits.
Be aware that the elemental alignments will expire when Solstice of Heroes concludes at the weekly reset on August 28, 2018. From that point on, players will no longer generate elemental orbs and will no longer be able to upgrade their Solstice Armor. For more information, including known and emerging issues, players should visit our Solstice of Heroes Vital Information thread.

Solstice of Heroes: Known Issues

Included in Solstice of Heroes are remastered versions of five missions from the Red War campaign. As players engage in these missions, however, we’re receiving reports from players unable to progress through mission barriers after the “Joining Allies” message appears on screen.

The first and best troubleshooting step that players should attempt is to wipe and respawn. Players who encounter this behavior and are unable to work around it need to return to the Tower to restart the mission anew. To mitigate this issue, fireteam members should ensure they stay within close proximity of one another, especially as they transition between mission areas.

Additionally, we are currently investigating the following issues reported to the #Help forum:

  • Some players are unable to upgrade their Solstice of Heroes armor after completing all objectives
  • Objectives requiring specific Crucible Valor ranks are not progressing for some players
  • Solar weapon kill objectives sometimes does not gain progress
  • The Solar Super kill objective for the Rekindled Titan Helmet is progressing slower than others

If you are encountering any of these issues, please post a report detailing your experience. If you have a screenshot or video showcasing the issue, please include that in your report.

Moments of Triumph T-Shirt Offer

While Solstice of Heroes is live, players who achieve 250 Triumph points or more in-game may redeem an offer to purchase a Solstice of Heroes Moments of Triumph T-Shirt. To do this, eligible players must visit the Statue of Heroes in the Tower and accept the “Moments of Triumph T-Shirt” item under “Triumph Rewards”.

Players who accomplish this will then be provided a code in the Solstice of Heroes section of their bungie.net profile. Players who redeem this code at checkout with their Bungie Store purchase of a Solstice of Heroes T-Shirt will be able to complete their purchase for $24.99 USD without customization, or $29.99 USD with customization (before tax and shipping).

If you wish to purchase a Solstice of Heroes T-Shirt but do not have a bungie.net profile, join up. Players who encounter issues with their bungie.net profile should visit our Account Creation help article.

Destiny Update 2.0.0 Vital Information

At the conclusion of Solstice of Heroes on August 28, Destiny 2 will be updated to prepare for the launch of Forsaken. In the week between August 28 and September 4, players will see some unusual behavior in-game as we make the transition into Year 2.

Here’s a short list of what players should be prepared for, with more details to come at a later date:

In general, collections and the vault will not be available. Specifically, this includes the collections for emblems, as well as Exotic weapons and armor. If players want to have an emblem or Exotic item in their inventory during this week, they will need to prepare their inventory ahead of time.

Nightfall strike scoring will not be available. We’ll have more information about strikes and how they’re changing in Forsaken in the coming weeks.

This is all in an effort to set the table for the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken on September 4, 2018. Pardon our dust, and please plan accordingly.

Rolling

During the Solstice of Heroes event, you’ll be challenged to complete many Moments of Triumph to earn awesome rewards. This week, we’re celebrating a few moments where players triumphed over their enemies—moments that were recorded and submitted to the Community Creations page.

Winner: I Can’t Believe What I’m Seeing

Runner Up: Calus vs. Claymore

If you’d like a chance to earn the Lens of Fate emblem, make sure to submit your video to the Creations page on bungie.net and include #MOTW in your title.

And before we move along, let’s celebrate another moment of triumph for the top three fireteams from last week’s Prestige Nightfall:

As we look to the last mile before launch, setting expectations is the name of the game. We’ll be serving up information on everything from character progression to endgame. Have any burning questions about what’s changing in Forsaken? Let us know on the Destiny 2 forum. We can’t answer every question individually, but we’ll look to answer as many as we can in the next few blog entries.
You may have noticed a recurring theme throughout this article. Solstice of Heroes is here, but it’s just the beginning. Some of you have been very busy. We’re already seeing some masterworked armor sets in the wild. People are already bragging about securing access to their trophy garment. Don’t let that scare you, though. We’re just three days into a month-long event. Feel free to show me your favorite emote if we happen to run into each other in the wild. I’ll be grinding out all three sets, with my eyes on the final prize.

Cheers, and happy Solstice.

Community Focus – Destiny Sets

Hello, and welcome to another Community Focus! These articles give us an opportunity to shine a spotlight on those within the community that create wonderful tools for players at large to use, in their never ending search for loot. This week, we’ve got the creator of DestinySets.com. Using the Destiny 2 API, they’ve created a wonderful portal for Guardians around the world to see what gear they have yet to collect within Destiny 2 – whether it be the final few weapons from Gunsmith packages, or armor pieces from planetary vendors. This will be a great place for those among you who are trying to check off every last item before Forsaken launches on September 4, 2018.

That said, let’s dive in and get to know the brain behind the website:

Who are you? Where did you come from? Why are you here?

Josh: Hi, my name is Josh and I’ve been playing Destiny since back in the Destiny beta days. Originally from Sydney, Australia, but I moved to London at about the same time Destiny 2 came out. I make DestinySets.com, a website to help Guardians collect their gear.

When did you start exploring web development?

Josh: Back in school, I had a problem I wanted to solve and I learned programming to solve it myself. I’ve stuck at that for a bit, and now I work full time as a web developer, making a few Destiny sites on the side.

That’s the cool thing about having an API for games like Destiny – its a bit of a trigger to get people into programming. On the Destiny API Devs Discord (https://discord.gg/HU3Q4up), we see so many people coming in learning programming for the first time to build something with the Destiny APIs – whether it’s something for their clan, or a way to see Xur inventory, or to dive more into perks and stats. Destiny Sets is on Github (http://github.com/joshhunt/destinySets) as an open source project, and people of all sorts of experiences contribute, especially for the data to organise the gear pieces into their respective loot tables.

What brought about the creation of Destiny sets?

Josh: Actually I first created Destiny Sets back in Destiny, mainly for strike and raid loot, to help me figure out whether I needed to use a Skeleton Key or SIVA key for another chance at the loot I was missing.

When Destiny 2 came out, the game changed these things around (for the better, I think) and I saw the opportunity to create one giant checklist to help you track the gear that you have, what you’re missing, and where everything comes from.

There’s so much gear in Destiny 2 from all sort of activities that sometimes it’s hard to keep track of. I like how, for me at least, looking at the items I don’t have yet on Destiny Sets will be a prompt for how I’ll play Destiny 2. I’ll go Crucible for a bit to work on my Season 3 objectives, or to try and work on that nightfall high score for a cool emblem.

What do you find yourself doing most in Destiny 2?

Josh: First and foremost I’m here for the friendgame. I really lucked out and found a wonderful clan, Bravo Company 30, that I love raiding with. I love the challenges, the teamwork, communication and banter that comes from the raids – it’s such a fun experience that you can’t really get anywhere else.

Other than that I love it when Iron Banner comes around and I like smashing through the Ornament objectives. Our clan runs “Iron Banner Disco” matches where we all head in with our most garish shaders and exclusively use weapons like Hard Light, Coldheart, or Prometheus Lens. It might not be the most effective, but it’s a load of fun.

Solstice of Heroes is just kicking off! What are you most excited to get your hands on?

Josh: Definitely the new armour!  I’m really digging the new Warlock gear and I can’t wait to see what it’ll look like with my shaders and the new armor Glows.

With Forsaken just around the corner, what announced feature has caught your eye so far?

Josh: I’m actually really looking forward to Collections, purely from a selfish point of view. The hardest part of working on Destiny Sets is all the manual curation that goes into the site – all the gear on the site has been organised by me or a community contributor into specific set or vendor. I’m hearing that maybe Collections in Forsaken will make some of that work easier, and allow me to work on more features for the site.

Any last shoutouts before we wrap up? Solstice is calling, and we don’t want to keep you here too long!

Josh: Massive props to Bungie API engineer vthorn (aka /u/EdgarVerona) and the Bungie.net team for all the hard work that’s put into the API and support they provide for us.

Also to the whole Destiny Devs community, of which there’s far too many to name. On top of also providing invaluable support, both moral and technical, I’m constantly marbled by the variety of the cool things they all provide

Many thanks to Josh for stopping by for a chat, and creating this awesome tool. I know I’ll be using DestinySets over the next few weeks, seeing as though I have a few last Raid pieces to collect. We’re always searching for members of the community to celebrate. If you have someone in mind, let us know by suggesting them on our Community forum, or tweeting @Bungie, me (@A_dmg04) or Cozmo (@Cozmo23) directly using the #CommunityFocus tag.

Cheers!
