This Week At Bungie – 11/21/2019

This week at Bungie, we’re investing in solar energy.

We wrapped up Festival of the Lost this week, but cleaning up the decorations wasn’t the only thing that changed in the Tower. Ikora finished her construction project, closed out all the permits, and Guardians launched an attack on the Undying Mind.

The attack is ongoing and all Season Pass holders can join in on Vex Offensive and transmat the finished portal from the Tower to summon and defeat Undying Minds from different timelines.

The impact of your victory has not been made clear just yet, but in time, you will learn more about how this will further evolve the world as we transition into the next Season.

Solar Shifts

Next Season, we are shaking up the Solar subclasses. We are reworking several ability trees and the Destiny Dev Team has the details on what to expect when you praise the Sun next season.

Destiny Dev Team: Hey Guardians, it’s the Combat Systems team here, back again to talk about some updates we’re making to the abilities sandbox in the next Season. Previously we spent a Season focusing on subclasses of one specific element type such as Arc and Void. Up next, the Combat Systems team is tackling Solar subclasses as our focus for gameplay updates.

As we’ve mentioned in past TWABs, our goal with these subclass updates is to “revisit some older subclass paths and freshen them up a bit.” In execution, this means that older subclass paths will feel like viable choices in many of our activities and that players can find a home in any of them.

When we started working on sandbox updates to follow Season of the Undying, our team looked at the whole catalog of Solar subclasses by cross referencing data, feedback, and conversation to figure out which subclasses needed help, which are performing fine, and which ones were a bit too potent. During our investigations, it was pretty clear that three specific subclasses were underperforming and needed to be taken back into the shop for a rework.

It’s worth noting here that a rework doesn’t mean it’s a completely new subclass. It means that we took the root of the gameplay fantasies for those subclasses and either expanded on what was already there or shifted some of the existing attributes closer to their fantasy. In some cases, entire perks were changed to help further the gameplay role and fantasy of those subclasses.

Those three Solar subclasses are:

Gunslinger: Way of the Sharpshooter (Bottom Path)

Traditionally, Way of the Sharpshooter has mostly been used in specific PvE activities and almost exclusively paired with the Celestial Nighthawk helm. We wanted to move Way of the Sharpshooter to be something players want to choose more often and for a wider range of activities. To do that we needed to differentiate both Golden Gun paths and make Sharpshooter more versatile and interesting to use in PvE. In order to differentiate the 3-shot and 6-shot Golden Gun and better play into their fantasies, we’ve made the following changes:

For 3-shot we increased the auto-aim distance and reliability when aiming down sights, as it fulfills the role of long range accuracy. For 6-shot, we shortened the damage falloff range to emphasize the short range gunfighter role with a lot of kill potential. While it can still perform at longer ranges, it may take an extra shot to get the job done. We’ve made other changes to Way of the Outlaw to help keep its potency like adding a new Explosive Prox Knife that can stick to surfaces and detonate when enemies pass nearby.

All up – we want Way of the Sharpshooter to feel more active and rewarding for players who can fulfill the role of the sharpshooter by taking down enemies with accuracy and precision.

NEW Weighted Knife: High-damage knife throw with a long wind up. Travels at high speeds, bounces once, and does extra damage to the head. Precision shot final blows recharge the melee completely. One-hit precision final blow in PvP.

Practice Makes Perfect: (QoL):  Lasts longer but gives a bit less energy per second. Precision hits grant two stacks.

NEW Knock ’em Down: Precision final blows increase weapon stability and ADS speed. Timer starts at 10 seconds but any additional final blow/assists can increase it up to 25 seconds. Casting your Super with this buff above 20 seconds consumes the buff and grants extra damage. (Does not stack with Celestial Nighthawk).

Line ’em Up: (QoL): Old perks from Crowd Pleaser are now part of this perk. (Golden Gun can cause precision damage and precision shots generate orbs of light).

Sunbreaker: Code of the Devastator (Middle Path)

Titans who adhere to the Code of the Devastator want nothing more than to crush their foes with smoldering hammers, and we want to see them live their dreams. When our data indicated that this subclass was underperforming in PvP, we decided to make a few changes that should enable it to be more competitive.

The Roaring Flame perk has received a significant buff to its bonus damage, and the buff now lasts 25% longer, making it easier to build and retain stacks between encounters. The base damage of Throwing Hammer melee ability has increased—it’s now very lethal in PvP while you have Roaring Flames active. In addition, once you’ve thrown the hammer and it’s lying on the ground, you don’t have to get quite as close to it to pick it back up. Finally, we tuned the Super in a number of ways.

For starters, Burning Maul now lasts longer, giving you more time to use it strategically instead of simply spamming the slam button. (Titans. All we want to do is smash, right?) We also increased the height of the heavy-slam explosion, so this Super should feel much more potent against airborne enemies. That’s the gist of it, but here are more details:

Throwing Hammer: Increased impact damage from 100 to 120 and increased hammer pick-up radius from 2m to 3.5m. Adjusted hammer throw animations to fit a more damaging attack.

Roaring Flames: Increased damage bonus from 10% per stack to 25% per stack in PvP, and increased duration from 15 seconds to 20 seconds.

Burning Maul: Increased duration from 21.2 seconds to 28.5 seconds

  • Light Attack: Reduced light attack energy cost from 5% to 3%. Adjusted the animation so that it flows seamlessly into chained light attacks without stopping.
  • Heavy Attack: Ground Slam attack now detonates when it detects enemies above it. Detonation radius was increased to make landing attacks more consistent. Increased energy cost from 6% to 8%.

Dawnblade: Attunement of Sky (Top Path)

With Attunement of Sky we wanted to push its air superiority gameplay further. When we initially released this path, its movement capabilities were tuned around the original Destiny 2 gameplay experience, which was much slower and more deliberate about positioning. However, over time, this movement needed to adapt to the new sandbox. We want to give you the gameplay experience that the fantasy begs for: A flying angel who can maneuver with grace and destroy its foes below.

Now before we get started I wanted to touch on one thing: To accomplish our goals of reworking the air superiority role, we needed to differentiate the two Daybreak paths from one another. As such, we reduced the speed at which Burst Glide accelerates players in Daybreak. We know this is a controversial change but we wanted to reserve the air superiority gameplay with Attunement of Sky and the Burst Glide speed was blurring the lines between both Daybreak paths.

Icarus Dashes while in Daybreak have increased speed and thrust to recapture the burst glide gameplay for those running the air superiority path. We hope that, while this change is different, you still feel as fast as before—but with maybe a bit more expression behind that speed. The rest of the changes are below:

NEW Celestial Fire (Melee): Send a spiral of three explosive Solar projectiles.

Heat Rises: (Rework) Consume your grenade to extend Glide time and dramatically reduce the in-air accuracy penalties for weapons.

Winged Sun (Rework): Fire weapons, use Celestial Fire, and throw grenade while gliding. Airborne final blows grant melee energy and extend the duration of Heat Rises.

Icarus Dash (Rework): Tap (Crouch) twice to dodge in midair. Dodging in Daybreak accelerates players farther and costs less Super energy while under the effects of Heat Rises.

Added note: Due to the nature of these reworks, Wings of Sacred Dawn received a buff where it gains 15% damage resistance while Tome of Dawn is active.

There are a whole swath of changes we’re working on that extend beyond these three subclasses. Most Solar subclasses had some tuning and some non-Solar subclasses got a bit QoL love too. We hope that with these changes, you’ll feel energized playing any Solar subclass—regardless of activity. Thanks for having us!

Final Howl

Next week, Lord Saladin will return to the Tower for the final time during Season of Undying. This will be your final shot at earning pinnacle rewards from Iron Banner until next Season. If you haven’t finished up your Season Pursuit, make sure to do it before the end of the event on December 3.

Iron Banner Control

Starts: 9:00 a.m. PT on November 26

Ends: 9:00 a.m. PT on December 3

We’ll be featuring a reprised armor set next season, so if you still want to get some pieces from this set, grab them quick! Saladin is also offering enhanced mods and other items in exchange for Iron Banner tokens you may have collected. You can turn them in now or bank them for when Iron Banner returns next Season.

Gaming and Giving

We’re completely blown away by the generosity you all showed throughout the Game2Give fundraising campaign in support of the Bungie Foundation’s iPads for Kids Program and of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

In just three weeks, you all raised $1,673,857.62! We reached this incredible amount of funding because of the 40,000+ donors and 5,500 streamers who supported the campaign across 104 countries. To say this was a true global Guardian initiative is an understatement!

For the Bungie Foundation, this will give us the capacity to expand into up to five new hospitals in 2020 and help over 250,000 more patients than we ever have before! We are so excited to continue our work of replacing fear with joy, boredom with entertainment, and uncertainty with a sense of normalcy for so many more kiddos.

And check out how this funding will help the work that Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals does every day.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for showing us once again how truly special the Bungie Community is through caring about each other and those in need.

Wanna Cook?

For those looking to add more Destiny books to their collection, we are very happy to announce Destiny: The Official Cookbook and Destiny Grimoire Anthology Vol. Three are coming in 2020.

Tip of the Spear

Stay up to date on the latest from the Player Support team.

This is their report.

Destiny 2 on Stadia

This week, Destiny 2: The Collection launched on Google Stadia. Players who are looking to get set up with Stadia for the very first time should make sure they visit our Stadia Guide.
Furthermore, existing Destiny 2 players who wish to bring their characters over from other platforms can do so right now through our Cross Save page. As a refresher; Cross Save allows players to access their preferred set of Guardians, gear, and Season Passes on all (Stadia details below) platforms.

New players who are starting their Destiny 2 journey with Stadia can also enable Cross Save, so the Guardians they build and gear they earn travels with them to other platforms. However, players should know that Season Pass access granted on Stadia through Destiny 2: The Collection does not transfer to other platforms using Cross Save.

Destiny 2: The Collection on Stadia includes a Season Pass access at no additional charge. Players who have Cross Save enabled with their Stadia account who would like to access Seasonal content on other platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam) will need to purchase those Season Passes directly on one of those platforms.

As a final reminder, expansion licenses (Forsaken, Shadowkeep) do not transfer between platforms with Cross Save. Players who wish to access activities which rely on these expansion licenses will need to purchase them for every desired platform.

PC Migration and Forsaken Licenses

Since Destiny 2 launched on Steam last month, we’ve monitored posts from players who have provided feedback and reported issues regarding the PC Migration experience.

After thorough investigation, we believe that we have resolved an issue which was preventing a subset of PC players from transferring their Forsaken licenses from their Battle.net accounts to Steam. Players who previously encountered this issue should re-initiate migration at our PC Move page.

Destiny 2 Known Issues

Listed below are emergent issues being investigated in Destiny 2.

  • The MIDA Multi-Tool catalyst will not drop for players who win a competitive Crucible match at the Legend rank if they are playing with clan mates and the “Catalyst Seeker” clan rank bonus is active. To mitigate this, we recommend that players seeking the catalyst play solo or team up with friends who are not in the same clan.
  • Black Armory Keys cannot be used or deleted if the Mysterious Box quest has already been completed.
  • Some players may experience an issue where blank items from Festival of the Lost are taking up slots at their Postmaster.
For the latest list of emergent issues, players should visit our Known Issues thread. Players who observe other issues should report them to the #Help forum.

Act III

Gather around and check out some of our favorite community created videos this week. As always, we’ll be sending the creators a special emblem, just make sure you have your Bungie.net profiles in the description of the video so we know where to send them. Roll the clips!

This Week At Bungie – 11/14/2019

This week at Bungie, a celebration is coming to a close.

We’re entering the final stretch of Festival of the Lost. Eva Levante has been dishing out treats for weeks, but she’s got a final trick up her sleeve. We won’t spoil the fun, though. That’s for you to discover on your own.

If you haven’t collected all of your masks or completed your Triumphs, you have until the reset on Tuesday, November 19 to fill out your collection. Momentum Control will be available through the end of the event, so if you’re looking to round out your Jade Rabbit catalyst, get to it. Momentum will be on rotation again in the future, so stay tuned for announcements.

Throughout the event, we’ve been sharing our favorite Guardian costumes. Here’s a quick roundup of the fun. If you have any last-minute submissions in hopes of earning the Levante Prize emblem, be sure to submit your costume to the Creations page on Bungie.net.

A Global Community

To ensure every Guardian feels at home, we’ve been putting more focus on Destiny’s global community. No matter your locale, your voice is important to us. What began with region specific Twitter accounts has evolved into a new community initiative. This week, we’d like to take the opportunity to introduce the first two international members on the Community team.

Loïc:

“Bonjour”, Guardians! Epyon here. I’m the French Community Manager, which means that not only will I have the pleasure to serve the Guardians from France, but also to provide proper bread to Dmg04. And when I say “proper bread”, I obviously mean “French bread”. Beside all the usual French clichés, what can I tell you? Until very recently, I was a journalist, working at Jeuxvideo.com, the main video game media here in France. Among many other things, I’ve been reporting on Bungie and Destiny for more than six years now, which is pretty amazing given that this is mostly because of another Bungie creation that I once chose to write about. You know, that big dude with the green armor, who blows up ring worlds… I also had the privilege to co-host the French version of Fireteam Chat (“Escouade Chat” in French). And because it seems that I never had enough of Bungie, I even wrote a book that came out last year. And now, this? Joining Bungie? Life’s crazy, friends.

My dear fellow French Guardians: we’ll have many things to talk about in the coming weeks and months. I know you’re all over the internet, gathered through Facebook groups, Discord channels, and so on. I’ll come and find you, wherever you are to talk with you, and hear what you have to say about the game we all love so much. In the same time, be sure to make Bungie.net’s forum your home. At least, another one. Use the checkbox, choose “French” as your language, and… “voilà !” I’ll be there, reading, answering, and amplifying your voice at the studio. No matter what, don’t hesitate to hit me up on Twitter (@Epyonzilla). Even if you’re a Hunter or a Warlock.

See you starside!

Maurice:

Hi folks! My name is Maurice and I’ll be taking care of the German-speaking part of our community from now on. Some of you might know me as the former editor-in-chief and host of Inside PlayStation, and as one of the more vocal Destiny fans in the German games media. Being able to join Bungie as a dedicated Community Manager for the German-speaking audience is a bigger deal than it might seem at first glance: DACH-Guardians (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) have traditionally been participating in the community by joining the English subreddit and organizing splinter-groups on other platforms. Our community has been all over the place, so to speak. I’ll be visiting you where you like to gather, but I’ll also be establishing a unified clubhouse that doesn’t come with a language barrier. If this is something you would like to participate in (sorry for the technical discourse), make sure to choose German as your language on your Bungie.net account, go to the forums and untick the English checkbox. And bitteschön: You’re now part of the club! Direct line to the studio and all.

There will be many things for me to figure along the way and I encourage you to do your part by letting me know how I can serve you best, and where my attention might be needed. Just use the forums or hit me up on Twitter @Maurice_BNG. Let’s build this thing together, one step at a time. As you might imagine I am over the Moon right now. And on it – chasing that Undying title. To quote an old friend of mine: THIS IS AMAZING!!!

These are our first two steps into a larger world. They won’t be the last introductions you see, as more teammates join us over time. Stay tuned.

Your Story

As I mentioned above, Destiny’s community is large and varied. Everyone is a little different in terms of how they defeat the Darkness. We have heard a lot of stories over the years about conquering challenges, meeting new friends, and the various ways that Destiny has touched your lives. We’d like to hear more! We’ve opened up avenues to share your favorite Destiny experiences with us, both on Bungie.net and reddit. This isn’t a contest. It’s a way for us to get to know you better, and to hear about the kinds of in-game moments that have made the largest impact on you.

So if you’re up to it, share your most memorable moments of Destiny – anything that made you feel:

  • A sense of tremendous achievement
  • A sense of belonging
  • Devastated or heartbroken
  • Utter domination
  • A human connection
  • Like laughing until you cried
  • The moment you knew you loved this game!

Thank you for being such an amazing community. We look forward to hearing more of your stories.

Seeking Balance

Over the last year, we’ve made various changes to the sandbox of Destiny 2. Some weapons have been brought down, some armor has been brought up, and the “meta” has shifted from class to class. Coming next Season, the sandbox will evolve once more. This week, we’ll be looking at two notorious items that you may have heard about.

From the Development team:

The Recluse

  • Changed the effects of Master of Arms:
      • Removed the precision damage modifier
      • Recluse will continue to receive a damage bonus from Master of Arms, but damage will not default to precision values when the perk activates

Many doubted The Recluse when it was first announced, but it has since proved to be resilient to being squashed. Although the precision damage modifier did not actually improve the efficacy of the weapon at its best, it did allow for fairly mindless spraying to be just as good as concentrated aiming. After considering various options on what to do with it, the decision was made to remove that part of the functionality and preserve its activation methods. The alternative was leaving in an effect we believe to be too strong for a Legendary weapon.

One-Eyed Mask

  • Changed the effects of Vengeance
      • Removed the overshield granted from defeating an opponent that inflicted damage on you

In a previous sandbox update, One-Eyed Mask received some tuning in how Vengeance was applied to Titans. Next Season, this perk will continue to provide health regeneration when defeating an opponent that has inflicted damage upon your Guardian, but it will no longer grant an overshield.

Additionally, the team is addressing some feedback concerning the newly released Xenophage Exotic:

Xenophage

  • Increased PvE damage by +50%
  • Ammo pulled from PvP crates has been increased to 4/6 from 3/4 from shared and solo Heavy ammo crates, respectively

Xenophage unintentionally shipped a little weak, so it’s getting a bump up in raw damage. Machine Guns have a higher ammunition capacity than other Heavy weapons, trading raw DPS for ease of use. Xenophage slides further towards other Heavy weapons such as Grenade Launchers in that aspect but didn’t get enough power back. This will correct that.

In the next few weeks, we’ll have further sandbox patch note previews, paired with some quality of life changes to things like Escalation Protocol Armor, bug fixes, and more.

Time Never Stops

Every day, Destiny Player Support is navigating the forums, identifying issues, and providing workarounds to those in need. They’ve got a good temperature of what’s going on, but they’re also keeping track of what’s to come. This week, they’ve got some info on upcoming deadlines.

This is their report:

FINAL WEEK: Festival of the Lost 2019

At the weekly reset this upcoming Tuesday, November 19, Festival of the Lost 2019 will conclude.
Players have until then to unlock the Braytech Werewolf, earn masks, and brush their teeth (or mastication module). From that point onward, the Haunted Forest will become unavailable and Eva Levante will once again depart from the Tower.

Also of note, during this final week Eva Levante is selling Festival Charms. For two hours after a Festival Charm is consumed, players will receive an increased number of Chocolate Strange Coins for activity completions.

Stadia and Cross Save

Also next week, Destiny 2: The Collection goes live with the launch of Stadia.

In the meantime, we recommend that players who wish to bring their existing Destiny 2 characters to the Stadia platform prepare Cross Save now. Once Stadia is live, players will need to link their Stadia account to their Bungie profile, and confirm that they wish for the account to be Cross Saved.

For more information, players should visit our Cross Save page.

ONE MONTH LEFT: Season of the Undying

As of this week, players have roughly one month left before Season of the Undying concludes.

Players who wish to unlock Seasonal ranks, Triumphs, and/or exclusive gear need to do so before maintenance begins on Tuesday, December 10.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to make players aware that, if incomplete, the following pursuits will be removed from players’ inventories once this season concludes:

  • Season 8: First Watch (Vanguard)
  • Season 8: Battle Drills (Crucible)
  • Season 8: Keepin’ On (Gambit)
For more information on what’s specific to Season of the Undying, players should see our overview page.

Destiny 2 Known Issues

Listed below are emergent issues being investigated in Destiny 2.

    • Players who Cross Save to a platform where they do not own Forsaken may lose access to the exotic quest for Malfeasance when they defeat the Ascendant Primeval Servitor.
    • The “complete ten legendary frames” steps for the Jötunn and Le Monarque Exotic quests is currently only counting curated weapon drops from Black Armory forges.
    • The weekly Vanguard Strike challenge says that players must “complete Vanguard bounties during the week”. This is not true. Players must complete Vanguard Strikes with an equipped subclass that matches that week’s elemental singe modifier.
For the latest list of emergent issues, players should visit our Known Issues thread. Players who observe other issues should report them to the #Help forum.

Sweet Tooth

We’ve been debating what the best Halloween candy is for the last few weeks, but I can firmly say (without acknowledging the obviously wrong opinions of my colleagues) that candy corn is the absolute worst. To get my mind off of this abomination of a “treat”, I’ve been watching some montages on the Community Creations page. Join me in cleansing your thoughts of this horrible candy.

Movie of the Week: Five Light Years

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B-62jrLDoI?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Honorable Mention: Oh Baby, a Triple!

Honorable Mention: I’m a Titan Main Now

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhVdVGlmQt4?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

These players, blueberry included, are now the proud owners of our Year-3 MOTW emblem. If you’d like a shot, submit your creation here.

That’s a wrap, folks. I’m still on the mend from a 30-minute solo dungeon attempt, but I may try again this weekend.

Next week, we’re looking forward to the launch of Destiny 2 on Stadia! If you’ll be experiencing your first revive in the cold wastes of the Cosmodrome, we look forward to giving you a warm welcome – we’re kind of notorious for that as a community. If you’re a Guardian who will be extending your journey to this new platform, don’t forget to get linked up using Cross Save as you activate your account.

What bread are you currently chasing for Season of the Undying? A new title? Some last minute Festival masks? Sound off!

Cheers,

-Dmg04

What’s in the Box?

Player Support has been tracking current issues and ensuring that the proper people were working on fixes. Today, some of those fixes were deployed.

This is their report.

Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.6.1.1

Earlier today, we deployed Hotfix 2.6.1.1 that targets a pair of emergent issues which prevented players from opening the Mysterious Box and acquiring Izanagi’s Burden. Here are some highlights of other changes also included in the hotfix:
  • Fixed an issue causing Forge Keys to not count towards Mysterious Box (Izanagi’s Burden) quest progression.
    • Players affected by this should find the corresponding objective marked correctly after logging in.
  • Fixed an issue where the Obsidian Crystal would not give quest progression.
    • Players affected by this will need to reacquire a Black Armory Rare bounty and then complete and claim it to get another Obsidian Crystal.
  • Fixed an issue that occasionally caused the weekly Eris Challenge to not drop a powerful reward.

In addition to this week’s hotfix, today we deployed a server-side change that allows players to receive the Black Armory Key Mold on all of their Destiny 2 characters. This resolves an issue where the Black Armory Key Mold could only be accepted by the first character that claimed it from Ada-1.

For information on upcoming maintenance windows, players should follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed at help.bungie.net. For our patch notes archive, players should visit our Updates page.

REMINDER: Daily and Weekly Reset Time Change

For Guardians who observe it; Daylight Saving Time has concluded for 2019. This means that until March 2020, daily and weekly resets will now occur at 9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Players in regions that do not recognize Daylight Saving Time will continue to experience resets at 1700 UTC.

Destiny 2 Known Issues

Listed below are the latest issues to emerge in Destiny 2.

  • Vex Offensive is not currently offering its powerful rewards milestone.
  • Titans can only throw one hammer or shield per Super activation in Momentum Control.
  • The Firewalled Haunted Forest cannot be accessed by non-PS+/Xbox Live Gold players.
  • Some universal ornaments may appear to be locked in Collections after they are obtained.
For the latest list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players should visit our Known Issues thread. Players who observe other issues should report them to the #Help forum.

We witnessed some heroics this week when a brave Guardian reached 999 Power in an attempt to challenge the darkness consuming the Dreaming City. We congratulated them on their effort, but the curse remains.

On the Power Climb

Since the release of Shadowkeep, we’ve been watching the community climb in Power as they’ve embraced the Seasonal Artifact to take on the Nightmares of the Moon. The Gate Lord’s Eye provides not only unique perks for players to earn, but additional Power to give Guardians an edge when taking on pinnacle content.

A few among you have been hard on the grind, looking to reach heights in Power that some may only dream of achieving. [I am Savathûn, ravenous!] Last night, Bagel4k was the first to reach Power level 999. [I have set the snare and baited the trap] Following the guidance of a lore piece, they’ve also taken on the Shattered Throne dungeon, solo, in hopes of breaking the curse of the Dreaming City. [Is victory so easy, hero?] The claims made in the “Truth to Power” lore book were ambiguous. Now that they have been put to the test, the curse has yet to be broken… [I am the finality, the reward—I am the true ending]

To our friend Bagel4k,

[This is another gift]

You’ve spent countless hours defeating the enemies of the Last City, steadily increasing your Power to challenge the darkness that is consuming the Dreaming City. [Your strength is my strength] We’ve been watching, alongside the community, as you’ve come to the doorstep of being the first Guardian in Destiny history to have a four-digit Power level. [Your victory is my victory] We are humbled by your dedication, and while this may not have broken the curse… we can say without question that you have become Legend. [My jaws are wide and I am waiting]

Thank you for playing, and we can’t wait to see how high you climb each season.

[The wait is long, but I am ceaseless]

Cheers,

This Week At Bungie – 10/31/2019

This week at Bungie, we’re hosting a celebration.

Festival of the Lost has been unleashed on the Tower. Cobwebs are everywhere, black cats are on the prowl, and every vendor has some candy for you to enjoy. Eva Levante went all-out this year on decorations and brought some new masks for you to earn. While candies and treats are readily available, you also have the BrayTech Werewolf to earn, packing the multikill clip punch.

The Tower isn’t the only place that’s a bit spookier. There’s been an uprising on the Moon, and Eris is calling on you to challenge the Hive in the Altars of Sorrow and the Pit of Heresy.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8PZpzIVFcQ?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Xenophage made its grand entrance, bug and all. We’ve seen Guardians cracking the puzzle and claiming their Exotic in real time, but it isn’t the only new weapon for you to add to your arsenal. We’ve got some Hive-infused weapons that not only look mean, but back it up with some serious firepower.

If you’re wanting to take on opposing Guardians with a bit more lethality, Momentum Control has arrived. Fast respawns, quicker kills, and ability regeneration tied to the defeat of your opponents. Get out there and make Shaxx proud.

So, now that we’ve covered everything that went live on Tuesday, let’s see what else is on the calendar: A charity, a costume contest, a hotfix, a bounty, and more are inbound.

Trick or Treat!

Even with everything going on, we can take a moment to appreciate the little things in life. A bit of humor in the face of fear. Eva Levante is hosting the Festival of the Lost this year, and we have another opportunity for players to earn the Levante Prize. Throw on a mask, embrace your inner darkness, and join us in celebrating Festival of the Lost 2019.

Want to participate? Here’s how:

  • Create a costume for your Guardian and strike a pose in the perfect setting.
  • Snap a screenshot in any Destiny 2 destination or activity.
      • Play with shaders and armor combinations for the spookiest outcomes.
      • Group participation is encouraged!
  • Submit your image to the Community Creations page on Bungie.net.
  • We’ll retweet our favorites from @Bungie and grant winners the Levante Prize.
      • If you do win, make sure you give us Bungie.net profile links so we can deliver the emblems!

While we’re all for fun and games, we’d love for you to try and scare us while you’re at it. Bonus points to those who do.

Pinnacle Hotfix Inbound

Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.6.1.1 is tentatively planned for Thursday, November 7. It contains some quality-of-life fixes for the sandbox and Season Pass weapon acquisition. One of the more major changes deals with your pursuit of pinnacle Power. While we’ll be providing a patch note preview below, we have some words from the team on our initial goals for pinnacle Power and why we’re making some adjustments.

Dev Team: When we designed the pinnacle band of Power for Season 8, our intent was to provide an aspirational progression that reflects participation in some of the more difficult and time-limited content of Destiny 2. This was meant to be a slower progression than the powerful reward band, but one that wasn’t a gateway to accessing content.

We’re not hitting our goals for the availability of rewards in all slots for the pinnacle-level rewards. You may have experienced getting duplicate Energy weapon drops from these sources, which is compounded by the need to get a drop in all slots in order to gain enough Power to raise your character’s overall Power by 1. To mitigate this, we have increased the Power granted by pinnacle rewards to +2 instead of +1.

Once this change goes live, only four slots will be needed to increase your character’s average Power, at which point your powerful rewards will allow those slots that you might have missed to catch up. Our goal is that the pinnacle band remains a reward for tackling the more prestigious challenges, but takes some of the sting away from receiving multiple drops in the same slot. We appreciate all the feedback that we’ve received on this, we and hope to hear more from you on how this band of progression feels with the new change.

PLEASE NOTE: As this change is currently planned for next Thursday, players should wait to earn their pinnacle rewards until this hotfix is available so they can take advantage of the +2 change.

Alongside the changes to pinnacle rewards, we’re also adding the Season Pass weapons (Pluperfect and Temporal Clause) as possible rewards from the Vex Offensive activity. While players may currently unlock the chance for these weapons to drop with random rolls from the Crucible, Gambit, and strikes, we wanted to add them to another activity to give players more agency in earning random rolls.

Additionally, we’ve developed a fix for ashes to assets to prevent Telesto from being the absolute best-o, where players could earn their Supers far more quickly than intended.

Stay tuned to @BungieHelp for updates on the exact time and date of this hotfix.

Iron Fright

Amid all this excitement, Lord Saladin wanted to get in on the action. The Iron Banner returns next week, bringing Power-enabled combat back to the Crucible. With a handful of bounties in tow, you’ll have opportunities to earn the Iron Will armor set, along with some pinnacle-tier rewards.

Iron Banner Control

Starts: 9 AM Pacific on November 5

Ends: 9 AM Pacific on November 12

Note: You may be thinking “Wait, 9 AM? What’s going on here?” – Day Light Savings ends this weekend for us in the states. I know, it’s confusing. I don’t really know why it happens either. You can find more information in the Player Support Report later in this very article.

Earlier this week, Destiny 2 Update 2.6.1 introduced changes to Heavy ammo spawning in the Crucible. The following change will also be present within the Iron Banner:

  • Heavy ammo initial spawn changed to 60 seconds (was 45 seconds)
  • Heavy ammo additional spawning changed to every 120 seconds (was every 60 seconds)

Now, to make sure we say it again, we are currently planning a hotfix that will increase pinnacle reward Power gains next Thursday. We highly recommend that players wait to redeem any Iron Banner bounties which reward pinnacle gear until the hotfix has been applied.

We also fixed an issue in 2.6.1 that was causing the Iron Banner bounties to reset daily. Players will have four bounties to complete throughout the week.

Regicide

If you follow your community news, you know that Gothalion is on the move to a new streaming platform. To ensure a nice, warm welcome in his new home on Mixer, we’re inviting the internet to hunt him down in the Crucible. We’ve placed a Bungie Bounty on his head! It seemed like the neighborly thing to do…

Bungie Bounty—King Gothalion

Saturday, November 2, 10 AM–Noon Pacific

Momentum Control on PC

Festival of the Lost has introduced a new competitive mode in the Crucible. If you play on PC, that’s your hunting ground. The rules are simple: Match with Gothalion, as either a teammate or an opponent, and win. The game must be played on his stream during the two hours allotted. To the victors go the new Bungie Bounty emblem.

This is a housewarming party and you’re all invited to attend. Bring snacks and ammunition. This is one of those rare occasions in which stream sniping is encouraged!

Charitable Endeavors

This week was also host to the inaugural Game2Give charity event, supporting the Bungie Foundation’s iPads for Kids program and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. We’ve been blown away by the community involvement, as we’ve raised nearly 1 million in donations from Guardians around the world. The charity is still going, and this weekend continues the event with DCPLive, joined by special guest Pete Parsons!
As a reminder, we have a few incentives for each donation, 100% of which goes to the charity!
  • A $10 donation will earn you the NEW Mist Blossoms emblem.
  • A $50 donation will earn you both the Mist Blossoms emblem and our first-ever Charity Ghost, the Gilded Shell Exotic Ghost.
  • A $100 donation will earn you both items above and enter you to win an item from the Bungie Prize Pool.

Forge Wardens

Two-Six-One was our most recent update. We’ve got a slew of changes that have gone live, but it seems that the Izanagi’s Burden quest line continues to evade some players. Destiny Player Support is on the case, bringing the most up-to-date information on what we’re tracking.

This is their report:

Izanagi’s Burden

Earlier this week, we deployed Destiny 2 Update 2.6.1 to players. With this update, we resolved an issue that was preventing a subset of players from completing the Mysterious Box quest to receive Izanagi’s Burden.

Following this update, however, new issues have emerged which block progression further down the line for this quest. Specifically, Destiny Player Support is tracking the following two issues:

    • Players are not receiving progress when redeeming forge keys.
    • Players are not receiving progress for the Obsidian Crystal received from rare Black Armory bounties.
These issues are currently under investigation, to be addressed in a future update. Players who are encountering other issues with Black Armory forges or the Mysterious Box quest should report to the #Help forum.

Festival of the Lost

This week, Festival of the Lost returned in Destiny 2. Eva Levante has made sure that this Festival is open to all.

For anyone joining us in progress, let’s review the entry requirements outlined last week:
    • Brand-new players who go through the New Light experience must achieve at least 770 Power before Eva Levante will beckon them with her Festival of the Lost introductory quest. If these players are lower than 770 Power, they will not be able to interact with Eva Levante at all.
    • All veteran players, including those who were boosted to 750 Power at the launches of New Light and Shadowkeep, may head directly to Eva Levante to begin her quest.

Don’t forget to wear your favorite mask when completing activities around the solar system. Wearing a mask is required in order to earn candy and Chocolate Strange Coins.

Lastly, this year’s Festival of the Lost will conclude at the weekly reset on November 19. Players looking for more information on Festival of the Lost should see our official guide.

Destiny 2 Known Issues

In addition to issues with the Mysterious Box quest tracked above, Destiny Player Support is investigating the following issues to emerge in Destiny 2:

    • Players may intermittently experience delayed loot drops and/or pursuit progression. If a player is at activity completion and has not yet received their loot, they should make sure they do not return to Orbit early.
    • If a Cabal Scorpius Turret Daemon falls off the map in the Haunted Forest, it will not be killed and won’t respawn, halting progress. Players will have to wait out the remaining time to collect rewards, or return to Orbit and restart the activity.
    • Following the launch of Destiny 2 Update 2.6.1, we monitored elevated ANTEATER, MONKEY, and WEASEL errors. At this time, issues causing these elevated errors are expected to be resolved. For the latest information on the state of Destiny services, players should follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed at help.bungie.net.

Daily and Weekly Reset Time Change

Beginning this Sunday, November 3, Daylight Savings Time in the United States will end. This means that Destiny 2’s reset time will change to 9 AM PST (1700 UTC) through March 2020.

Untitled Princess Carolyn Project

In the process of creating a masterpiece, projects often undergo multiple names before settling on a final title. x360_Noscope_Blazex may have been your first file name, but eventually you settled on “Awesome Headshot Montage MOTW Submission.”

There’s no shame in that. Let’s see who the winners are for this week.

Movie of the Week: You’re a wizard, Wumbo!

Honorable Mention: “I spent two hours playing Tire game and didn’t get a perfect score on Wednesday so this MOTW submission actually makes me kind of angry.” —dmg04

Honorable Mention: D2 Drop Edit

If you’d like to throw your project in the ring for the chance at a sweet emblem, head over to the Community Creations page.

It’s been a while since I’ve had the driver’s seat on a TWAB. It’s good to be back. What’s your favorite weapon that’s come from Shadowkeep so far? Shoot me a tweet, sound off with your favorite rolls. I just earned some sweet bread last night…

Maybe we’ll run into each other on the Moon this weekend, or in Momentum Control.

Cheers,

This Week At Bungie – 10/24/2019

This week at Bungie, it’s about to get spooky.

Mark your calendars, Guardians, because October 29 is a day filled with updates that will appeal to just about every player in this community. We have a full menu of activities to tackle, challenges to master, and Exotic loot to add to your collection.

Festival of the Lost is about to return. We have a full preview of the festivities Guardians can look forward to next week. The Moon isn’t the only thing that’s haunted. The Haunted Forrest will be back, and the Tower will be spookier than ever.

A new dungeon is also opening up to willing fireteams or brave Guardians who want to tackle it alone. Speak with Eris; she knows the way.

The Crucible is about to gain some momentum as well, changing the way Guardians meet in glorious combat.

Earlier this week, Banshee sent Season Pass owners out on a quest to claim the Leviathan’s Breath Exotic Bow. If you haven’t completed the quest yet, check this out.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm7ecYOsfIY?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

On top of all that, there’s another Exotic quest going live for Shadowkeep owners. You may have seen pictures of a replica we had made of the “bug gun” from past events. It’s time for you to go out and claim the Xenophage as your own.

Where will your path take you first? There will be many options for you to consider, depending on how you like to play the most.

Continue the Momentum

Next week, Lord Shaxx is mixing things up in the Crucible with a new mode called Momentum Control. While Mayhem puts focus on Supers, Momentum shifts your focus to gunplay. This is a fast-paced, hair-on-fire experience where the lethality of all weapons has been cranked to 11. You’re incentivized to be aggressive as you defeat other Guardians to earn charged melees, grenades, and Supers. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect:

  • Instant Respawn Times
      • Out of the fight? No problem; drop right back in immediately
  • Weapon Damage Increased
      • Higher combat lethality
      • Everything in your arsenal is a contender
  • Ability Regen Requires Effort
      • Defeat enemy players to charge your melee, grenade, and Super
  • No Tracker
      • Sneak around your enemies for some sweet flanks
  • Amped Control
      • Zones capture faster and grant more bonus points per kill
  • Super Charged Supers
      • Increased damage resist in Super means you become the 1,000-pound gorilla
      • Be careful, because Heavy weapons will put you down quickly
  • The Heaviest of Ammo
      • Increased Heavy ammo respawn rates and drop amounts

Many of us who have been playtesting this have compared it to the classic Halo custom game SWAT, but for Destiny. We’ve done a lot of trying out different weapons and seeing how they behaved in this heavily modified sandbox of a mode.

Momentum will be the featured 6v6 rotating playlist during Festival of the Lost. We’ll be monitoring the community’s response to see when we want to bring it back.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback.

Triumphant

Now that we’re neck deep in Season of the Undying, we wanted to talk about some changes to Seasonal Triumphs in the third year of Destiny 2. You may have noticed some of the changes to the system and the Destiny Dev Team wanted to let you know some of our thinking behind why we are adjusting Triumphs going forward.

Destiny Dev Team:

As always, we start with the goals:

  • Provide more tiers of pursuit for players
  • Provide Seasonal pursuits that match each Season of Destiny
  • Ensure everyone has a chance to show off their accomplishments

What’s in a Triumph Tier?

Starting with Shadowkeep, individual Triumphs can now have tiers. They grant a portion of its total Triumph score as you make progress toward the final Triumph. For example, consider the SEASON 8: POWER BONUS Triumph. It has three tiers. To earn the first tier, you need to gain 5 points of bonus Power from your Season 8 Artifact, the Gate Lord’s Eye. Once you do, you’ll get 10 points of Triumph score toward your account’s total Triumph Score, and the next tier will be revealed to you.

As part of this release, we went through all the existing Triumphs in the game and added in tiers to Triumphs where they made sense.

A Title to Match the Season

This is probably too much homework, but the “An Evolving World” section of Luke’s Director’s Cut—Part III is essential reading. The CliffsNotes version as it pertains to titles? Okay, we’ll try. Prior to Season of the Undying, each piece of the Annual Pass added parts of the game designed to live on forever. During Season 8, a new situation will unfold on the Moon. Over the course of the Season, the situation will be resolved and some of the related activities will go away as Season 9’s conflict arrives.
This will also be true of the Title associated with Season 8. Both the Triumphs and Badge for the new title will ask players to be participate during the Season of the Undying. Once the conflict has been resolved players will no longer be able to earn the season’s title, Undying.

New Light and Getting ALL the Score

New Light forced us to think about many of the existing Triumphs and evolve our philosophies around what Triumph Score represents. For example, when a New Light player joins the game, should they receive all the score for getting to level 50 without having to put in any effort? That doesn’t feel like much of a Triumph. That said, shouldn’t a new kinderguardian have a chance to have the magical moment where they hit max score? Also, our evolving world will lead to many Triumphs that will no longer be able to be earned. Yet, we’ve heard loud and clear that Triumphs without score aren’t very compelling. The rules had to evolve.

The decisions!

  • Pre-Shadowkeep Triumphs that no longer require effort can’t be earned after Season 7.
      • These Triumphs have had their score reduced to 0.
      • The players who have earned them will still see them in their Triumphs.
  • Seasonal Triumphs will have a score value. If you miss Triumphs during Season of the Undying, you may not be able to max out your score for the year.

Even with an evolution to our Triumph philosophy, we don’t think we’re done making tweaks to the system. Not everything is as clean as we’d like it to be in order to support Destiny as an evolving world. We’ll be listening closely for feedback as we consider how to best continue the evolution of Triumphs.

Color Your Words

Accessibility is something we’re always trying to improve in Destiny. We have some new changes coming next week to make subtitles easier to read. The Destiny Dev Team is here to tell you more!

Destiny Dev Team: Have you ever found yourself wishing the subtitles were bigger, or liked having them on but thought they took up too much space, or wanted them to be a different color?

It has always been important for us that we make Destiny’s UI accessible to the widest range of possible players as we can. Later this month, we’ll be releasing an update that adds more options to let you change the look of subtitles in Destiny. Five different sizes to pick from, a variety of text colors, and a few different styles for the background.

These new subtitle settings are found in the settings tab under “Gameplay” on PC and “Accessibility” on consoles, and they’re present in new users’ initial log-in experience. We’ve also taken this opportunity to consolidate some PC settings into five subsections.

This is just one focused update on increasing accessibility options in Destiny, with plans for additional updates in later releases. (A small example that didn’t quite make this next release is a fix for subtitles disappearing when navigating between menus). We’d love to hear your feedback on these changes, as well as what other accessibility improvements are important to you.

Forges and Festivals

Player Support has everything you need to know for next week’s update.

This is their report.

Destiny 2 Update 2.6.1

Next Tuesday, Destiny 2 Update 2.6.1 is scheduled to go live. This update will introduce a broad variety of changes to the player experience, and resolves a number of known issues that have emerged since the launch of Shadowkeep. Here are some highlights:

  • Resolved an issue that prevented some veteran players from unlocking Black Armory forges and completing the Mysterious Box quest for Izanagi’s Burden.
  • Resolved an issue that prevented players from abandoning the Mysterious Box quest for Izanagi’s Burden on alt characters—it will be retrievable from Ada-1.
  • Resolved an issue where the Exodus Black destination quest could not be recovered if abandoned—it will be retrievable from Failsafe.
  • Resolved an issue which prevented some players from earning the “Silimar’s Design” Triumph—this Triumph will unlock retroactively for eligible players.
  • Resolved an issue causing daily bounties from Eris Morn and the Lectern of Enchantment to rotate weekly.
  • Resolved an issue that increased load times for previewing gear while traveling between destinations.
Additionally, we’d like to remind players that we’ve resolved an issue causing crashes in the Gofannon Forge in Hotfix 2.6.0.4. Players who previously encountered issues engaging with Black Armory content are highly encouraged to try again once Update 2.6.1 becomes available next Tuesday.
As with all updates and hotfixes, players should follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed on help.bungie.net for the latest details as soon as they are available.

Festival of the Lost

Also next Tuesday, Festival of the Lost returns to Destiny 2. In case you missed it in our blog earlier this week, we encourage all players to take a look at our official Festival of the Lost Guide.

Before Eva Levante returns to adorn the Tower in ghoulish decor, we’d like to inform players of what they can do right now to prepare for the festival’s return.

  • Brand-new players who go through the New Light experience must achieve at least 770 Power before Eva Levante will beckon them with her Festival of the Lost introductory quest. If these players are lower than 770 Power, they will not be able to interact with Eva Levante at all.
  • All veteran players, including those who were boosted to 750 Power at the launches of New Light and Shadowkeep, may head directly to Eva Levante once Festival is live to begin her quest.

While New Light players must achieve 770 Power before they can jump in, the Haunted Forest has a minimum recommended Power of 750—so all Guardians should be ready to jump right in.

Additionally, while we await the festival’s return, we’d like to forewarn players about earning and deleting Candy and Chocolate Strange Coins. In order to earn these currencies, players must wear the Masquerader’s Helmet, purchasable from Eva Levante for 100 Glimmer. If players defeat enemies and complete activities without this helmet equipped, they will not earn Candy or Chocolate Strange Coins.

Furthermore, players should be cautious when dismantling any items in their Consumables inventory. Any instance of dismantling Candy or Chocolate Strange Coins, intentional or otherwise, will delete the entire stack.

Players who encounter issues following the launches of Update 2.6.1 and Festival of the Lost should report them to the #Help forum.

New Movies

Every week, we’re on the lookout for community-created videos. We take our favorites and feature them here for all to see, and the winners receive a special emblem. In fact, starting this week, we have a new emblem for all future MOTW winners.

Looks good right? Here are the first to take it home:

Movie of the Week: No Guns

Honorable Mention: Memento Mori

Don’t forget we’re also kicking off our Game2give charity event next week. Learn more about how you can participate by either donating or joining a fundraising team!

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to next week. We stacked up a lot of new things to go live, and I’m having a hard time deciding what to do first!

Festival of the Lost – 2019

In a universe where darkness appears around every corner and death usually follows, it’s important to gain courage by looking fear in the face. Candy helps, too.

After taking a year off, Eva Levante has returned as the herald of the Festival of the Lost. This holiday is a time for Guardians to don irreverent masks and celebrate the memories of those that are lost.

As a growing threat looms ever-present, return to the Tower, grab some candy, and remind yourself what you’re fighting for.

Dark The Halls

With Eva’s return comes a renewed dedication to decorations. Candles, lights, cobwebs, and pumpkins adorn every nook and cranny of the Tower to ensure spirits will be raised.

Speak with Eva to begin your journey and acquire a Masquerader Helmet to participate. Earn Chocolate Strange Coins from bounties and activities to purchase Festival of the Lost mask ornaments for your new helmet. All Destiny 2 players can partake in the festivities, including New Light players who need to be 770 Power to begin.

Back by popular demand, Candy makes its sweet return as a reward to be spent towards Mystery Grab Bags and the Braytech Werewolf Legendary Auto Rifle. After acquiring the fully Masterworked 950 Power weapon, create your own monster with random rolls.

Forest Through The Trees

While the festival is underway, Guardians are needed to return once more to the Haunted Forest and defeat the fiends, ghouls, and terrors that lie within. You’ll have 15 minutes to make it as far as you can go, but beware of what awaits you at the end.

Terror-verse

There are more treats to be had in the Eververse if you’d like to further customize your Guardian’s costume. From spooky scary skeleton armor ornaments to Jack-O’-Lantern masks, we’re sure you’ll find something to terrorize your enemies.

To those witches and Warlocks out there who are looking for some good clean fun, your favorite spooky Sparrow has returned.

The Festival of the Lost is a time to honor those who have passed on. Make sure to let your Crucible enemies remember it forever with their own personal tombstone.

Join us in the Tower and beyond and help us celebrate the Festival of the Lost beginning on October 29 and concluding on November 19.
