Python Code for Getting Historical Weather Data

5/5 – (1 vote)

To get historical weather data in Python, install the Meteostat library using pip install meteostat or run !pip install meteostat with the exclamation mark prefix ! in a Jupyter Notebook.

If you haven’t already, also install the Matplotlib library using pip install matplotlib.

Then, copy the following code into your programming environment and change the highlighted lines to set your own timeframe (start, end) and GPS location:

# Import Meteostat library and dependencies
from datetime import datetime
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from meteostat import Point, Daily # Set time period
start = datetime(2023, 1, 1)
end = datetime(2023, 12, 31) # Create Point for Stuttgart, Germany
location = Point(48.787399767583295, 9.205803269767616) # Get daily data for 2023
data = Daily(location, start, end)
data = data.fetch() # Plot line chart including average, minimum and maximum temperature
data.plot(y=['tavg', 'tmin', 'tmax'])
plt.show()

This code fetches and visualizes the average, minimum, and maximum temperatures for Stuttgart, Germany, for the entire year of 2023 using the Meteostat library.

Here’s the output:

Here are the three highlighted lines:

  • start = datetime(2023, 1, 1): This sets the start date to January 1, 2023.
  • end = datetime(2023, 12, 31): This sets the end date to December 31, 2023. Together, these lines define the time period for which we want to fetch the weather data.
  • location = Point(48.787399767583295, 9.205803269767616): This creates a geographical point for Stuttgart, Germany using its latitude and longitude GPS coordinates. The Point class is used to represent a specific location on Earth.

You can use Google Maps to copy the GPS location of your desired location:

You can try it yourself in the interactive Jupyter notebook (Google Colab):

Guide: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions

Nintendo Switch OLED
Image: Gemma Smith / Nintendo Life

The next Nintendo Direct has been announced: it’s coming on Thursday 14th September 2023, keeping up the tradition of an annual September presentation for the platform holder.

The showcase is set to run for around 40 minutes, with Nintendo saying that it will mainly focus on “games releasing this winter”.

Below, we have laid out everything that you need to know about the September 2023 Nintendo Direct including the start time, how to watch it, and what we are hoping to see featured.

Nintendo Direct September 2023 Start Time

The Nintendo Direct September 2023 is set to kick off on Thursday, September 14, 2023, with the event beginning at 3pm BST / 4pm CET / 7am PT / 10am ET / 12am AET (Friday).

The showcase will run for approximately 40 minutes.

Nintendo Direct September 2023 Where To Watch

You will be able to watch the Nintendo Direct September 2023 event on one of Nintendo’s official YouTube channels (Nintendo of America, or its regional variants such as Nintendo UK or Nintendo Japan). You will also be able to catch the stream on Nintendo’s Twitch channel.

If you want to watch along with us, we at Nintendo Life will be hosting the stream from 30 minutes before the start time to chat about our predictions and enjoy the show.

Nintendo Direct September 2023 Predictions – What To Expect

While we can’t know exactly what the Direct presentation will bring, there is certainly some room for educated speculation.

Nintendo still has a number of big releases to its name for the rest of the year, don’t forget, so it’s likely that a fair few of these will be popping up. We heard a lot about Super Mario Bros. Wonder in its recent specialist Direct, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see this big hitter slip into the background a little here.

Fortunately, that leaves room for all of Mario’s pals! Both WarioWare: Move It! and Super Mario RPG are heading to the Switch in November, so we can see both of these getting some good time in the spotlight. Perhaps the remake of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon will make an appearance too, though this one is still planned for 2024 at this point alongside that mysterious unnamed Princess Peach game.

Mario aside, we’d love to hear an update on Professor Layton and the New World of Steam and maybe get a closer look at the Batman Arkham Trilogy. In fact, there are a host of announced third-party games that still carry a ‘TBA 2023’ release date, so firm launch dates for games such as Metal Slug Tactics, Demonschool, Fantasy Life i, and the rumoured Gotham Knights port are possible.

And we’d be lying if we didn’t mention our hopes for some new additions to the NSO libraries — could we see a return for Pokémon Red and Blue?

Lastly, would it really be a Nintendo Direct if we didn’t throw a passing mention to Metroid Prime 4, Silksong (surely it’s time!?), and the long-rumoured Wind Waker / Twilight Princess remasters?

As for new hardware… we doubt it at this stage, but with rumours of recent demos to developers, it’s not impossible.

Forgotten What Happened In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet? Check Out Nintendo’s Story Recap

Today’s the day, folks. After being initially announced in February’s Pokémon Presents showcase, the first part of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s DLC, ‘The Teal Mask‘, is now with us. If the events from the base game have become a little hazy to you by now then worry not, Nintendo is here to remind us what went down.

In a new recap video released today, Nintendo runs us through the important beats of the main game so that we can all be up to speed before diving into the DLC. The Scarlet and Violet plot was not all that in-depth, so this is more of a whistle-stop tour than anything, though it is good to be caught up all the same.

The recap then goes on to lay out everything that we can expect from the two DLC packs, ‘The Teal Mask’ and the upcoming ‘Indigo Disk‘. Many of us will be diving into the former of these today, so you can watch along for a reminder of what’s in store — don’t worry, there’s nothing all that spoiler-y on display here.

We still have a little while longer to wait before the second DLC pack comes our way (it’s still listed only as ‘This Winter’ for the time being), so the above video provides a good way to stay in the loop about what’s around the corner.

Have you headed into The Teal Mask yet? Let us know in the comments.

Pokémon isn’t the only game that’s been updated today, it seems Monolith Soft and Nintendo have also released a patch for the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Compared to the previous update, Version 2.1.1 is quite small. It contains some bug fixes tied to the Expansion Pass and addresses a battle issue. You can get the full rundown courtesy of the official patch notes below:

Ver. 2.1.1 (Released September 12, 2023)

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where not having the Expansion Pass would cause the Special Hero BGM, Audio environment in Audio Setting, as well as Notifications to not display.
  • Fixed an issue with Staying Power’s Art Follow-Up, where activating Fusion Arts would cause the Follow-Up Attack damage to be dealt to the character using Fusion Arts and allies.

This latest update follows on from an update back in July, which added functionality for the Pyra and Mythra amiibo – allowing you to unlock some special weapons. You can learn more in our previous post here on Nintendo Life:

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Version 2.0.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Pokémon
Image: The Pokémon Company

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet have received a brand new update today bumping both games up to Version 2.0.1 and introducing ‘The Teal Mask‘ DLC.

As part of this update, Nintendo has released patch notes documenting all of the changes in this new update. As long as you’ve purchased ‘The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero‘ you should be good to go. Here’s the full rundown, courtesy of the official support page:

Ver. 2.0.1 (Released September 12, 2023)

Release of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask for Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet

Trainers who have purchased The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will now be able to enjoy adventures in Part 1: The Teal Mask.

Additional Pokémon

For Trainers who have not purchased The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, additional Pokémon may appear via local or online communication modes.

Newly Added Features
  • You will now be able lock the mini map that appears while you are out in the field so that up is always north. You can do this by pressing the Right Stick twice while you have the map app open to select the App and mini maps locked setting.
  • Camera settings have been added to the Options menu. These settings will let you adjust how the camera works while you are out in the field.
  • We have added a feature that allows you to signal a Pokémon accompanying you in the field to stop and wait where it is. To give this signal, press the Left Stick.
  • You can now take pictures by pressing the A Button in the camera app.
  • You can now play music by pressing the ZL Button or ZR Button while the camera app is open. You may find that Pokémon accompanying you in the field and people around you will react to the music.
  • While using the Union Circle, Trainers can now share photos they have taken with the camera app during that Union Circle session with the friends they are playing with.
  • We have added a feature to TM Machines that allows you to filter for moves your Pokémon can learn. By interacting with a TM Machine and selecting the option to filter for learnable moves, you will be able to display only TMs containing moves that a specific Pokémon can learn.
Bug Fixes and Feature Adjustments
  • Incorrect descriptive text for the moves Ceaseless Edge, Dire Claw, and Stone Axe has been corrected. The descriptions for these moves previously included the words “aiming to land a critical hit,” but these moves do not increase the critical-hit ratio in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. This wording has been removed from these descriptions.
  • We have fixed a bug where the Itemfinder Mark would not be applied to a Pokémon even if the conditions were met.
  • Wild Pokémon that have the Titan Mark will now reappear in the field after a certain amount of time if they have been defeated.
  • We have made adjustments to the way Pokémon icons are displayed in the Boxes.
  • Other select bug fixes have been implemented.

As part of this update, players can also redeem a Hisuian Zoroark as well as a new school uniform bundle.

Baten Kaitos Soundtracks Available On Streaming Services Ahead Of Remaster’s Launch

Baten Kaitos Origins
Image: Bandai Namco

Bandai Namco has uploaded the music to both halves of the Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster, ahead of its launch this Thursday and Friday.

From today, you can stream the music from Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and a variety of other streaming services. You can also purchase both soundtracks on Apple Music and Amazon Music in some regions.

A full list of places you can access these soundtracks is available on Bandai Namco’s game music page. The video game developer has also opened up its own YouTube channel for video game music, along with a Twitter account.

Both soundtracks were composed by industry veteran Motoi Sakuraba — most famous for composing the music to many of the Tales of series games, the Star Ocean series (including re-arranging music for November’s Star Ocean The Second Story R), and Valkyrie Profile.

We’ve picked just one highlight from each game below, but head on over to YouTube or your choice of streaming platform to check out music from both games.

For fans of the original GameCube games, which launched in 2003 and 2006 respectively, this is a pretty exciting way to build up hype for the Remaster’s release on 14th (for Japan and North America) and 15th September (in Europe).

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins are two cult classic RPGs that use a card-based battle system. They’re also an interesting part of Nintendo’s history, as they were developed by the now Nintendo-subsidiary Monolith Soft, the studio which is now responsible for the Xenoblade series, as well as working on huge Nintendo titles such as Splatoon 3 and Tears of the Kingdom.

This remaster brings the two titles to Switch with enhanced visuals, cleaner UI, auto-battle, and the ability to turn off random encounters, along with a handful of other little quality-of-life upgrades.

Are you flying off to pick up the Baten Kaitos remasters later this week? Swoop into the comments and let us know.
