Level-5 Teases More Updates For Inazuma Eleven And Fantasy Life i, Coming Soon

Level-5

As the new year gets underway, Level-5’s CEO Akihiro Hino has teased some of the company’s plans for the earlier months of 2026.

Fans of both Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time can apparently look forward to “free major updates” this month and next. There are no specific release dates just yet, but here’s a rough translation (via RPG Site):

Akihiro Hino: “This is the video published internally in Level-5 on the last working day of 2025. It was done in a rather interesting way, so I’m sharing it with everyone too. Once again, please support us in 2026 as well. Both Inazuma Eleven and Fantasy Life i will have free major updates in January and February. We’ll also do an Inadai [stream] on January 13. Look forward to it!”

As you can see above, this news was included alongside a special video featuring Level-5’s characters. It follows updates for both Inazuma Eleven and Fantasy Life i at the end of last year.

Apart from these updates, Level-5 is planning to release the new Professor Layton game in 2026. DECAPOLICE is also targeting a release this year.

Have you tried out Level-5’s latest Switch and Switch 2 releases yet? Looking forward to what it serves up in 2026? Let us know in the comments.

PSA: Switch Game Vouchers Won’t Be Sold After January 2026

Game Vouchers
Image: Nintendo

Last July, Nintendo announced it would be ending the sale of Switch Game Vouchers. It’s now apparently sent out another reminder (and potentially the last major one) before the big date.

So, as of 30th January 2026, game vouchers will no longer be available for purchase. Before then, Switch Online members can still buy a pair of game vouchers, and these vouchers will be valid for exactly 12 months after the purchase date.

Wario64 - BS

Nintendo has previously mentioned how it will continue to add new Switch games to the voucher program throughout 2026, even though it’s ending the sale of vouchers. You can see the current games available in the voucher program on Nintendo’s website.

Although Switch 2 games can’t be redeemed, there are Switch games in the game voucher program that you can purchase and then pay to upgrade. Examples of this include Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Other Switch games in the voucher program have also received free Switch upgrades over the past six months, so they might be worth considering for Switch 2.

Will you be purchasing any vouchers before they’re gone? Let us know in the comments.

Pokémon Developer Game Freak To Reveal More About ‘Beast Of Reincarnation’ Later This Month

Beast of Reincarnation
Image: Game Freak

The Pokémon developer Game Freak recently released the DLC Mega Dimension, so what’s it up to beyond this? In case you missed it when it was revealed last year, the studio has a new action RPG Beast of Reincarnation in the pipeline.

In an update this week, it’s now been revealed we’ll be hearing more about it at Xbox’s upcoming Developer Direct showcase, taking place later this month on 22nd January 2026. This latest broadcast from Xbox promises to give fans an “inside look at not just the games” but also “the studios working to bring them to life”.

We’ll also be taking a trip to Tokyo to visit the legendary Game Freak, offering a first in-depth look at Beast of Reincarnation, which we revealed at Xbox Games Showcase last year.”

So, while there may not necessarily be any Nintendo-related announcements here, we might at least get a look at the inner workings of Game Freak and how it goes about developing new projects.

For now, Beast of Reincarnation will release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Game Pass. It was officially revealed in June 2025 (just days after the launch of the Switch 2) and is published by Fictions and directed by Kota Furushima – a Game Freak employee who has worked on the battle system and sound in past Pokémon releases.

Beasts of Reincarnation is described as “an expansive one-person, one-dog action RPG built around demanding, technical combat”. Here’s a slightly more detailed description and the trailer from last June:

In post-apocalyptic Japan, a land ruined by corruption and crawling with monstrous beasts, humanity’s last hope may rest with Emma—an outcast cursed as a Blighted One—and Koo, her loyal canine companion. Survive a journey across an ominous, ever-changing world where dangerous forests can erupt in the wasteland. As Emma and Koo push deeper into the unknown, their bond strengthens—and with it, strange powers bloom.

Although Game Freak has mostly focused on major Pokémon projects over the years, in between these releases, it has worked on its own unique titles. During the Switch generation, it released games such as Little Town Hero across multiple platforms and even revived Pocket Card Jockey.

As for its latest Pokémon DLC Mega Dimension, it’s not bad, but like the base game it lacks the freedom of the core series.

What are your thoughts about Game Freak’s new title? Have you played through Mega Dimension yet? Let us know in the comments.

Nintendo Denies Using AI Images In New ‘My Mario’ Marketing

My Mario Marketing
Image: Nintendo

Update #2 []: A Nintendo representative has provided us with a statement from the company, saying that AI has not been used in any of the My Mario promotional images.

You can read more on this story below:

Update #1 []:

One of the models featured in the marketing campaign has responded to claims that AI has been used in the creation of these photos.

Brittoni O’myah Sinclair, who features in the shot with the tablet, left a comment on Instagram stating “As one of the models, I can promise you this is not AI guys.” (thanks to Jon Cartwright for highlighting on X.)

(Thank you Solid_Python for bringing this to our attention)

Original Story: Yesterday, Nintendo announced that it would be bringing its ‘My Mario’ collection to the West next month. It launched a cute new marketing campaign showing happy parents and young children putting the products to the test, but the images quickly set AI alarm bells ringing for many on social media (thanks for the heads up, The Gamer).

You see, in a lot of the promotional images, commenters online thought that the fingers just don’t add up. One model’s thumb appears bent back to an impossible angle, while another hand holding up a toddler has been criticised for its finger length and placement.

Hands and fingers have been used as something of a Gen-AI litmus test in recent years, with the software’s difficulties in accurately portraying their position (or quantity) becoming a telltale sign of whether an image is the real deal. Such an approach seems to have been applied to Nintendo’s new campaign, with the big reveal on Twitter being met with a tidal wave of replies accusing the company of resorting to “AI slop” in its marketing.

But things aren’t as clean-cut this time around. While that thumb is undoubtedly looking a little funky, there’s every chance that we’re looking at nothing more than a post-shoot editing mix-up — and, to our eyes, the other hands look perfectly reasonable.

In fact, several users have come to Nintendo’s defence following the AI accusations. “I know the hands may look weird but that’s what hands do lol,” one user wrote on Bluesky, “I [swear to god] we’ve gotten to the point where if you bend your hand in a weird way it’s automatically ai”.

We ran all four of the images used in the @NintendoStoreUS reveal tweet through both the NoteGBT and Decopy AI image detectors (which may use the same analysis software) with differing results. The much-discussed ‘weird thumb’ picture was said to have a 63.84% to 82% chance that it used some form of AI generation, while the other three came in at >1%. Another detector, ZeroGBT, concluded that the thumb picture had a 3% chance of being AI-generated, while the others had a 97% chance of being digitally edited. So big pinches of salt all round.

Of course, digital editing with Photoshop and the like is a completely standard practice for basically any marketing image these days. Almost every Nintendo promo will likely undergo some kind of post-shoot editing, and there’s every chance that these wonky digits are just a byproduct of that.

We have reached out to Nintendo of America for a comment, and we will update this post as soon as we hear anything back.

This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has been accused of using AI-generated images in its products. Back in May, a company spokesperson told Eurogamer that “AI-generated images were not used in the development of Mario Kart World“, after an online theory suspected the Switch 2 launch title of relying on AI placeholders for many of its billboards and signs.

Miyamoto has previously stated that Nintendo would “rather go in a different direction” than the rest of the industry when it comes to the use of AI in game development.

Do you think the My Mario images are AI-generated or simply an editing mix-up? Let us know in the comments.

Larian “Would Have Loved” Baldur’s Gate 3 On Switch 2, Will “Certainly Consider” Divinity

Baldur's Gate 3 Shadowheart
Image: Larian Studios

Of all the dream Nintendo Switch 2 ports, Baldur’s Gate 3 is probably extremely high on many people’s lists. It certainly is on ours too! But that pipe dream may have to stay as just that — a pipe dream.

Larian Studios, the developer behind the GOTY winning RPG from 2023, held a Reddit AMA earlier today mainly focusing on its upcoming Divinity title, which was revealed at The Game Awards 2025. And, as you’d expect, one fan asked about the potential of a Switch 2 port of the latest Baldur’s Gate game.

When asked if a port is even possible, Larian CEO Swen Vincke’s response was disappointing and a little vague: “We would have loved to but it wasn’t our decision to make.”

So, were their plans to make this happen, and if so, who could have got in the way? Would Nintendo refuse the game? Unlikely, we think. The only possible answer we can think of is Dungeons & Dragons publishers and IP owners Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast.

It seems like a strange decision either way — Baldur’s Gate 3 is primed for success on the new console. And, of course, this response might mean nothing.

We’re still going to hope something changes, but even known leaker NateTheHate has claimed that “[Larian’s] relationship with Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast is not healthy.”

In more positive news, regarding that new Divinity game, Larian is potentially considering a Switch 2 version of that title. Another user asked about this while praising the recent Divinity: Original Sin 2 Switch 2 upgrade, which came out in December 2025.

Divinity Announcement trailer screenshot
Image: Larian Studios

Technical director Bert replied: “We love the platform and we will certainly consider Switch 2 for the next Divinity game.” So it sounds like the Switch 2 is firmly on the mind for the team at Larian.

We can only hope at this stage that one, or both games, make it to the system. But Divinity is likely a while away, while Baldur’s Gate 3… well, anything could happen there.

Larian announced this AMA back in December following the reveal of Divinity and an interview with Bloomberg, where Vincke revealed the team were using generative AI for generating ideas, concept art, PowerPoint presentations, and more.

In this AMA, Vincke seems to have changed his stance on AI use, stating “there is not going to be any GenAI art in Divinity.” That’s good news.

Are you disappointed about the Baldur’s Gate 3 comment? Do you think we’ll see it or Divinity on Switch 2? Let us know in the comments.

Senators tell Apple to remove X & Grok from App Store because of AI-generated child porn

A group of US Senators aren’t impressed by Elon Musk taking the smallest of corrective actions in moving Grok’s ability to make child porn behind a paywall, and want X removed from the App Store.

The ability for Grok to take an image of a person and generate a version of them undressed is abhorrent. But it’s also the tip of the iceberg, as the feature has also been used to show women being abused and even killed.

After initially ignoring criticism and calling nonconsensual Grok-generated images “way funnier,” Elon Musk has now removed the feature from public use. Rather than ending the issue, though, Musk is attempting to profit from it by making it be a premium feature.

US Senators Ron Wyden, Edward J. Markey, and Ben Ray Lujan figure that if you can’t stop Musk at the source, you can cut off his water supply. They have jointly written to both Apple’s Tim Cook and Google’s Sundar Pichai, asking the X be removed from their respective app stores.

“We write to ask that you enforce your app stores’ terms of service,” they write in the full letter. They note that Grok has been used to modify images “to depict women being sexually abused, humiliated, hurt, and even killed.”

The senators also say that researchers have found a Grok archive [of] nearly 100 images of potential child sexual abuse materials generated since August.

They argue that this all means that it is clear X and Grok are in violation of the app stores’ policies. In the case of Apple, they’re referring to the section in the App Store Review Guidelines regarding objectionable content.

Those do specifically say apps shouldn’t allow offensive “or just plain creepy” content.

Consequently, the senators argue that there is no escaping the fact that the Grok has breached the terms of the App Store. So turning a blind eye to this, “would make a mockery of your moderation practices.”

The senators take a dig at both Apple and Google for how they were willing to quickly remove the harmless ICEBlock app when pressured by the US government. They say they hope Apple and Google will respond with similar speed now.

They’re asking Apple to remove the X and Grok apps, at least temporarily. And they want a written response from the companies within two weeks.

Neither Apple nor Google have yet responded publicly.

US Senators

This is not the first time that any of these three senators have pursued technology issues, either through bills or letters. In 2021, for instance, Senator Ben Ray Lujan, campaigned to make social media liable for spreading health misinformation.

Going further back, Senator Edward J Markey was one of two senators who wrote to Steve Jobs about Apple privacy in 2010.

But it’s perhaps Senator Wyden who is best known for writing open letters — and possibly the most effective. In 2023, he wrote a seemingly nonsensical open letter to the Department of Justice, making the apparently absurd claim that governments were spying on iPhone owners by use of push notifications.

Apple was expected to deny this, but instead effectively said thank you. It is true, but Apple had been forbidden to reveal the fact until Wyden brought it out into the open.

AI App Store dangers

Separately, in December 2025, US attorneys general warned Apple and others that “delusional outputs” from AI apps may be violating the law.

The January Apple Arcade drops might just kill your New Year’s resolutions

It’s quite cold and bleak outside, don’t you agree? Winter is settled and here to stay a little bit longer. Fortunately, Apple Arcade is here to keep us busy and make sure we can be entertained without having to put a toe outside if we don’t want to, by dropping new gems every month – the best of which can be found in our list of the best Apple Arcade games, if you’re wondering which deserve your time!

On January 8th, a fresh little bundle of games arrived, and while all four are doing something charming, chaotic, or quietly lovely, there’s one name here that will give you the illusion of having fun outdoors while staying stuck to the radiator: True Skate+.

Yes. That True Skate. The cult-favorite skateboarding sim finally rolls onto Apple Arcade, bringing its beautifully unforgiving physics and real-world skate spots. If you’ve never played it, True Skate is less “do a kickflip” and more “spend 40 minutes trying to land one kickflip and feel like a god when it finally happens.” It’s tactile, technical, and dangerously good at convincing you that just one more run is a sensible life choice. The Apple Arcade version includes park objectives with missions and the possibility to unlock championship courses. If any of this month’s drops are going to eat your free time, it’s this one.

YouTube Thumbnail

If you’re in a softer, cozier mood, though, Cozy Caravan might be the real heart-stealer. This one is a gentle life sim about travelling with a sweet little caravan, meeting animal friends, crafting items, completing wholesome quests, and generally vibing your way through a pastel-tinted world. It’s the kind of game that doesn’t want to challenge you so much as tuck you in, hand you a warm drink, and tell you everything will be okay – and don’t we all need it right now.

On the more chaotic end of the comfort spectrum sits Potion Punch 2+, which turns magical mixology into a frantic time-management game. You’re brewing potions, serving fantasy customers, upgrading your stations, and trying desperately not to set the whole operation on fire while a queue of wizards taps their feet. It’s colorful, fast, and perfectly built for short, slightly unhinged play sessions where you promise yourself “just one level” and immediately lie.

Rounding things off is Sago Mini Jinja’s Garden, a gentle, child-friendly experience about planting, decorating, and caring for a joyful little garden space. It’s bright, calm, and designed to encourage creativity, ideal for younger players or adults who want a game that feels like a deep exhale.

Whichever is most enticing to you, one thing’s for sure: your New Year’s resolutions are in danger. Unless they were just to play more games on Apple Arcade, in which case you’re all good.

Disappointed In The Switch 2’s Joy-Con Colours? Dbrand Has You Covered

Switch 2 - Dbrand
Image: Nintendo Life

When Nintendo announced the new alternative colour Joy-Con controllers for the Switch 2 this week, one thing became adamantly clear: it’s quite possible that we’ll never get any solid colour Joy-Con. Those little accents around the analogue sticks are likely all you’ll see when the Joy-Con are attached to the console. And that’s fine, y’know?

But if you’re not especially pleased about this, then accessory manufacturer Dbrand might have you covered. The company has revealed that it is launching ‘ColorMatched’ skins that will effectively take the accented colours of the new Joy-Con and apply the same colour to the entire controllers. The result, provided to apply them properly, is pretty neat.

Now, we’ve never really been fans of Dbrand’s ‘edgy’ humour, since it often borders on being completely unprofessional, but there’s no denying its quality when it comes to controller skins. So if you’re in the market and you want your Joy-Con controllers to look a bit more like the OG Switch, then it might well be something to look into. They cost $19.95 directly from Dbrand’s website.

As for the new ‘Light Purple / Light Green’ Joy-Con, these will launch very soon on 12th February 2026. They’ll set you back $99.99 in the US and £74.99 in the UK.

What do you make of these Joy-Con skins from Dbrand? Let us know your thoughts with a comment in the usual place.

Mini Review: Stardew Valley: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – Almost The Cream Of The Crop

Note. At the time of publication, the Switch 2 update is not yet live on European eShops. However, it is accessible from the North American eShop if you have a Nintendo Account from that territory.

I’ve spent close to 300 hours with Stardew Valley since it landed on Switch in 2018. That feels like rookie numbers compared to other people, but even with the portability, the Switch version has always been slightly behind other versions in the multiplayer department, which is where ConcernedApe’s surprise Christmas treat comes in handy.

Stardew Valley on Switch 2 is almost the best way to play the game (without mods) – just a few bugs, which the developer is currently working on, hold it back from perfection.

I’ll start with the Iridium-quality stuff: Mouse Mode. I don’t really like Mouse Mode, but here, it’s perfect for two aspects of Stardew Valley that were always a bit finicky with a controller: decorating and inventory management.

The former is now effortless, as with the click of a button and drag of the Joy-Con 2, you can move or pop down furniture without relying on your character’s positioning. I no longer need to block out multiple days of in-game time to decorate my house. The latter also eliminates the need to use the shoulder buttons to shuffle through pages, making my speedy Skull Cavern dives a breeze.

I thought Mouse Mode would be good for farming, but this still only works if you’re right next to whatever you need to till or hoe. Not a big deal, but the other two uses make it a vast improvement over solely relying on the controller, which makes tabletop play a dream.

Online multiplayer now supports up to eight players; this was bugged on launch day, but quickly fixed. Five of us got together on a brand new co-op farm and, after a few days of running around, fighting over where to plant seeds, buying and selling random junk, fishing, and ganging up on the same trees to chop them down, it was pretty flawless, save a few little pauses and stutters when others moved between areas.

Improved split-screen co-op is another huge boon, as you can now play with up to three other people on the same farm on the same screen. The magic of better processing power! Or you can GameShare with up to three others to Switch 2 or Switch 1 – this works perfectly in handheld mode, but docked, the bottom half of the screen gets distorted.

There’s also a crafting bug at the time of writing which causes some items to disappear; most of the recipes affected are pretty easy to avoid for me, but it’s something to be aware of.

Otherwise, this is Stardew Valley as you know it. Between three different farms and playing on friends’ and families’ save files, I can safely say that this is one of my favourite games ever, and the best farming sim of all time. And once it’s fully up-to-date, Switch 2 might rival PC as the best place to play it.

Alex Turns Heel As ‘The Man With No Allies’ In Street Fighter 6 Trailer

Capcom has released a new teaser trailer for Alex, the latest addition in the Year 3 Character/Ultimate Pass for Street Fighter 6.

There’s no raw gameplay here, but if you ever wanted to see Final Fight‘s Andore (Hugo) get beaten to a pulp, this trailer has you covered. Alex fully turns heel for this one, becoming ‘The Man With No Allies’ as he taunts his opponent and rebukes the crowd.

From this short teaser, we’re not overly keen on Alex’s look, but it’s at least much, much better than his appearance in Street Fighter V. Jesus, that was rough.

As for when fans will finally get to play as Alex, there’s no firm release date, but the trailer ends to confirm that he’ll be available in ‘Early Spring’. So we’re potentially looking at a release in March, perhaps.

Alex will join Sagat and C. Viper in the Year 3 Character/Ultimate Pass, with Ingrid making her mainline series debut at some point in the future.

In our review for Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2, we said it’s “crisp, clean, and as slick as we could have ever hoped”, awarding it a score of 9/10. It also featured as one of our personal Game of the Year choices for 2025, so do check that out if you have a moment.

Are you looking forward to Alex’s debut in Street Fighter 6? What do you make of this teaser trailer? Let us know with a comment.
