A Remake Of Resident Evil: Code Veronica Will Supposedly Be Announced This Year

Code Veronica
Image: Capcom

Resident Evil Requiem, the next mainline entry in Capcom’s survival horror series, is scheduled to launch in just over a month on 27th February 2026. It seems, however, that Capcom might have another title lined up for a reveal later this year.

According to Dusk Golem, who has had a history of accurately reporting Capcom’s plans for Resident Evil, the company will be announcing a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica in 2026 (thanks, VGC).

Code Veronica, largely regarded as a mainline entry in all but name, has been long rumoured to receive the remake treatment, and Dusk Golem seems particularly confident that this is real, stating plainly “I promise you”.

“No, there is NOT a Resident Evil 5 Remake that’s going to be announced this year. Instead, later this year a RE Remake that starts with “(C)” & ends “(ode Veronica)” is going to be announced, I promise you.”

Questions arose around a potential remake of Resident Evil 5 after Eva La Dare, the voice actor behind Sheva Alomar in the 2009 original, stated that she’s “Got a few fun things lined up for March” in relation to Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary.

Capcom recently showcased more gameplay for Resident Evil Requiem ahead of its release, highlighting the differences between protagonists Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy. It’s also been confirmed that those after a challenge can set the difficulty higher and thus necessitate the use of Ink Ribbons during Grace’s sections.

Random: An ‘Adults Only’ Island Has Been Deleted From Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A risqué Animal Crossing: New Horizons island aimed at ‘adults only’ has been deleted by Nintendo after more than five years.

This comes courtesy of creator @churip_ccc (thanks, Automaton), who posted on social media to confirm the deletion, stating “To Nintendo, I apologize from the bottom of my heart. Or rather, thank you for turning a blind eye for more than five years.”

“Actually, just a day before the update,
The Dream Address for the Adult Island was deleted by Nintendo.
To Nintendo, I apologize from the bottom of my heart.
Or rather, thank you for turning a blind eye for more than five years.
To everyone who visited the island,
And to all the streamers who showcased it in their videos,
Thank you so much.”

The island in question contains its own Edo-inspired ‘Red Light District’, while certain shops sell nothing but schoolgirl-inspired cosplay and toys. Yikes. Looking at the video above, more subtle hints towards the island’s ‘adult only’ theme include magazine and posters littering the floor, some labelled ‘DVD’ in pink font.

Meanwhile, Blathers’ museum-inspired room has an entire corner dedicated to pictures of Isabelle, with seemingly used tissues strewn about the place. Must have a runny nose, huh?

It’s interesting that Nintendo took so long to get rid of it in this case, but alas, it’s gone. No doubt we’ll see similar attempts in the future, but we reckon Nintendo will be pretty vigilant if it happens again.

Yeesh, what do you make of all of this? Let us know with a comment in the usual place.

Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being ‘Good Enough’

Metroid Prime 4 Switch 2
Image: Jim Norman / Nintendo Life

After nearly two decades of dormancy for the series and an infamously drawn-out development cycle, it feels slightly surreal to now have Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in the rearview. The game arrived under immense expectation, and it’s fair to say it ultimately proved more divisive than Nintendo and developer Retro Studios had hoped.

If Metacritic scores are anything to go by, Prime 4 reviewed well but stopped short of the near-universal acclaim enjoyed by the original trilogy. It’s been described as a game of ‘high highs and low lows,’ a characterisation that I feel broadly holds true. In hindsight, though, it’s a game I wish I could have experienced with less of the noise that surrounded it.

I was initially quite riveted by the game’s opening hours, but was taken aback after going online to find much of the gaming commentariat lambasting the title as an epic disappointment, if not an outright failure. As I pushed on with my playthrough, that narrative began to colour the experience itself, becoming almost as intrusive as Prime 4’s NPCs.

Algorithm-chasing YouTube critiques, searing post-mortems, finger-pointing at its troubled development history, and a relentless focus on what Prime 4 wasn’t seemed to characterise the mood following its release, making me feel like I was playing a fundamentally different game from the one being litigated online.

I found myself mentally auditing and second-guessing my own enjoyment.

That’s not to dismiss criticism of the game, because there are certainly aspects that deserve it. Too often, though, the discourse felt less like measured appraisal and more like performative dunking. It felt like not enough was being said about what Prime 4 does right, such that I found myself mentally auditing and second-guessing my own enjoyment.

The backlash was initially surprising because I felt it was generally delivering exactly what a Metroid Prime game should: It’s a technical showcase; its controls are sublime; its world design is visually stunning; it offers exploration, scanning, and plenty of well-hidden items; its boss fights stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best the series has ever produced.

Having recently revisited the series with Metroid Prime Remastered, Prime 4 feels like it takes gameplay cues from that lauded entry while opting for far more linear biomes that feel more approachable to newcomers. Still, moment to moment, I found it harder to put down than any other major first-party release of the current hardware generation.

I even enjoyed Sol Valley, the desert hub world routinely derided as an empty, ‘half-baked’ open world. People misread the intent of this space – it exists as a palate cleanser to blast through on the fun-to-control Vi-O-La bike between tense sessions of dungeon-crawling in tight corridors. With a few collectibles, lore, and story beats to discover, it does what it should.

Admittedly, Prime 4 manages to repeatedly break its own spell with its narrative choices. Metroid’s traditional strengths of isolation, atmosphere, and player-driven discovery are all there, but it really fumbles in delivering a coherent character-driven story. Its attempts to do so more often than not felt like tonal misfires that broke my immersion.

That dissonance was, for me, most apparent in the game’s use of NPC companions whose quips and chatter just felt wrong in a Metroid game. After decades of largely solitary adventures, there’s an obvious temptation to push Metroid toward a more character-driven structure, especially in a game positioned as an entry point to the series.

But in this case, the execution of that premise — along with sequences that felt closer to a conventional, dialogue-driven campaign shooter — understandably felt like too much of a departure from what defines Metroid. While I don’t believe Prime 4 deserved the pile-on it received, I won’t deny feeling somewhat conflicted once I rolled the credits.

I have my own qualms with the game, but I still struggled to reconcile them with how much of the conversation had already settled on Prime 4 as a disappointment. The conclusion I’ve reached is that the game was judged both on what it actually is and on what it was supposed to represent as the long-awaited successor to a near-mythic trilogy.

After years of anticipation, the bar wasn’t simply high. Prime 4 was expected to justify its own resurrection, to reaffirm the legacy of its namesake series, and to reward years of fan patience with something transformative. Anything less than a series-defining triumph was always going to be framed as a letdown. Being ‘good enough’ was never going to be enough.

7

Stripped of the hype and the scrutiny, though, this is a game that succeeds far more often than it stumbles, one that repeatedly compelled me to keep going long after I should have stopped, one that I deeply enjoyed playing. How it will be remembered remains to be seen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if hindsight proves kinder than the moment it was released into.

Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel – Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (DS)

Tactics A2 - BAB
Image: Nintendo Life

Welcome, folks, to another edition of Box Art Brawl!

Last week, we checked out Mario Power Tennis for the GameCube and, as expected, the results weren’t even remotely close. With a much more interesting cover, Europe and North America easily won the day with 70% of the vote, leaving Japan to mop up the remaining 30%.

This week, we’re heading to the land of the DS to look at Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. Originally released in 2007, it was very well regarded at the time and remains a firm fan-favourite to this day. With the recent success of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles on Switch and Switch 2, many (including us) are no doubt hoping to see its sequels remastered in a similar manner.

For now, let’s check out the box arts for Grimoire of the Rift. This time, Europe and Japan team up to take on North America.

Europe / Japan

Tactics A2 - EU / JP
Image: Square Enix / LaunchBox

Europe and Japan have gone for what could arguably be described as a more ‘traditional’ approach for a Final Fantasy game, opting for a white background to allow the logo and characters to really stand out. It’s clean, it’s eye-catching, and we like it.

North America

Tactics A2 - NA
Image: Square Enix / LaunchBox

North America, meanwhile, has gone for a much darker approach, showcasing a black background with a dark blue outline of a key character. Very ominous stuff, indeed. It’s cool though, and despite the change in approach, it’s still quite classy and restrained. This might be a tough one to call.

Thanks for voting! We’ll see you next time for another Box Art Brawl.

Volleyball Legends codes January 2026

January 18, 2026: We added three new Volleyball Legends codes, offering lucky style and ability spins. We also removed expired codes.

If you’re trying to find some Volleyball Legends codes, you’re in the right place.  These codes offer valuable freebies that can give you the upper hand when you take to the court, including free spins. In this game, inspired by Haikyuu, you get to take part in intense six-versus-six matches, where you need to understand the importance of teamwork.

Yes, you can show off your abilities, but, as with any team sport, you need to play well with others if you want to win in volleyball. As we all know, this isn’t your standard volleyball, either, so the more powerful you are, the more likely you’ll pick up some wins and live up to the game’s name – and these Volleyball codes are here to help you with that.

Here are all the new Volleyball Legends codes:

  • UPDATE_53 – five lucky style spins (new!)
  • CHAT_BUBBLES – five lucky style spins (new!)
  • YOGAN_REWORK – five lucky ability spins (new!)

If you’re wondering what to spend the rewards you get from your VBL codes on, you can check out our handy Volleyball Legends tier list or our guide to all of the Volleyball Legends styles.

Is there a Volleyball Legends Discord?

There is an official Volleyball Legends Discord server, and you can join it here. It’s a great place to meet other players, potentially finding teammates to join you on the court or, at the very least, to discuss your favorite anime with. Furthermore, the server is where the developer tends to make announcements, so you get to be among the first to know about the latest news.

PSA: Dynasty Warriors: Origins On Switch 2 Includes A Variable Frame Rate Option

Dynasty Warriors Origins - Switch 2
Image: Koei Tecmo

Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force are bringing Dynasty Warriors: Origins to the Switch 2 next week. It was previously revealed the Musou would run at a fixed but “stable” 30fps on Nintendo’s new hybrid platform, and now that reviews have gone live, it’s been confirmed there’s also a ‘variable’ option.

This might not necessarily be the best option for everyone, but if you’re eager to see the game closer to 60fps on Switch 2, it’s at least there. As shown in tests by the YouTube channel Cycu1, the title’s quality mode outputs a consistent 30fps, while the variable mode targets 60fps (and mostly jumps between the 50s and high 40s).

In our Dynasty Warriors: Origins review for the Switch 2, PJ O’Reilly mentioned how the 30fps option felt “smooth and responsive at all times” and was good once you had readjusted. As for his time with the game’s “variable” unlocked frame rate toggle, he experienced some stutters.

“Even though Koei Tecmo has gone and thrown in a “variable” unlocked frame rate toggle for you to mess with, honestly, I recommend just leaving this off to enjoy a consistently smooth and fully exhilarating ride without any little niggling stutters that this toggle introduces at points. You don’t need niggles distracting you from the story or the ‘1 VS 1000’ battles here either, as what Dynasty Warriors: Origins brings to the table is a grand refocusing of the usual Warriors caper that makes for a very exciting and stylish reboot.”

You can change the game’s frame rate in the ‘Graphics’ menu within the settings. What will you be selecting – 30fps or variable? Tell us in the comments.

Random: Nintendo Apparently Wasn’t Happy About Sonic’s Foot Being In Front Of Mario’s Foot

Mario and Sonic
Image: SEGA, Nintendo

Developers who have worked with Nintendo’s intellectual properties have often shared stories about odd requests and demands from the video game giant. With this in mind, the latest story to surface comes from former Sega of Japan producer, Ryoichi Hasegawa.

During a chat with Arcade Attack Retro Gaming Network recently, the Sega legend (who was at the company between 1992-98 and 2007-12) retold a “funny story” about Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and a certain demand Nintendo apparently made at the time. Here it is in full:

Ryoichi Hasegawa: There was one funny story…There was artwork of Mario and Sonic, and you know, other characters standing on the field. And those artworks were used for the package, the instruction manual cover, and the cartridge label, and things like that…There was one small error and Sonic’s foot was in front of Mario’s foot, and Nintendo demanded us to change the priority”.

Arcade Attack: So, what? Mario had to be slightly ahead? Oh, for goodness sake.

Hasegawa: (nods) Yes…I still remember that.

Aracde Attack: And you did change it, I take it?

Hasegawa: Of course, of course, we were like ‘oh my god’ we have to change it, or there will be no deal.

Again, it’s not the first time we’ve heard stories like this from third-party developers about Nintendo, and Nintendo is well-known for being extremely protective of its IP. As for the Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Games series, based on some rumours a few years ago, it might not be returning.

Boost your Mac’s connectivity with Thunderbolt dock deals at up to 35% off

An easy way to make your Mac more useful is to add more ports. Here’s a selection of steeply-discounted Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5 docks to boost your Mac’s connectivity.

Users of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air will be very familiar with the relatively small number of ports available on their devices. While it’s enough to use the notebooks while on the move, it’s not really enough to connect a lot of different devices up to your Mac.

It’s not just limited to the MacBook lines. Many desktop Mac users may find the included port selection isn’t quite expansive enough for their needs. It’s not just simply adding more connections, as sometimes the docks provide ports that the Mac itself doesn’t have, but consumers may need.

What follows is a selection of Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5 docks you can attach to your Mac.

Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma

The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock delivers up to 120Gbps burst bandwidth (80Gbps sustained bidirectional), supports triple 4K displays at up to 144Hz, and provides up to 140W of charging via USBC. There’s also support for an 8TB internal SSD, for expanded storage for your Mac.

There’s also Thunderbolt Share, a KVM-like feature for controlling multiple Windows PCs from one setup, though this doesn’t work with Macs. You do, however, get customizable RGB underglow.

The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma is available from Amazon, priced at $300, 25% off the list price.

Ugreen Revodock Max 208 Thunderbolt 4 Dock

The Ugreen Revodock Max 208 has a fairly slimmed-down approach for a dock. It’s an 8-in-1 dock, with three Thunderbolt 4 ports excluding the host port, three USB-A 3.2 ports, and Gigabit Ethernet.

Two sleek, vertical, rectangular electronic devices with multiple USB ports, Ethernet port, and power button, designed for connectivity and expansion.

It still manages to put out 85W of power delivery, thanks to its use of a 140W GaN charger. There’s also support for dual 4K screens or a single 8K display.

Usually $249.99, you can get it on Amazon for $161.48, 35% off the list price.

iVanky Fusion Dock Max 1 Thunderbolt 4 Dock

The iVanky Fusion Dock Max 1 Thunderbolt 4 Dock is a stylish approach to a Thunderbolt dock, but also one that’s quite powerful in its own right. In our iVanky FusionDock Max 1 review, we found that the “floating” appearance was interesting, but also helped with increasing surface area for cooling.

Black rectangular device with multiple ports including USB, HDMI, audio jack, and card slots, labeled with specifications like 6K and 10Gbps.

The port collection includes two Thunderbolt 4 connections to the host, which is unusual, as is the use of two Thunderbolt controller chips. This means it has a total of 20 ports overall, including dual HDMI 2.0 outputs, 2.5Gb Ethernet, and 96 watts of charging.

Normally $439.99, it’s available on Amazon for $299.99.

iVanky Fusion Dock Max 2 Thunderbolt 5 Dock

If you want a Thunderbolt 5 version of the previous deal, the iVanky FusionDock Max 2 should fit the bill. It also maximizes the 120Gbps of bandwidth from Thunderbolt 5 by providing a massive 23 connections for you to use.

This includes support for triple extended displays, including dual 6K 60Hz screens and one 4K 60Hz display. The port list includes three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, two upstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, 10 USB ports, a 312MBps SD/TF 4.0 memory card slot, 2.5Gbps Ethernet, optical audio, two headphone jacks, and a HDMI connection.

The iVanky Fusion Dock Max 2 Thunderbolt 5 Dock is available from Amazon, priced at $399.97, 20% off the list price.

iVanky FusionDock Pro 3 Thunderbolt 5 Dock

If you want something to stand out on top of your desk in a different orientation, consider the iVanky FusionDock Pro 3, a vertically-standing docking station. It’s an Intel-certified dock, capable of up to 120Gbps, and has 140W charging and 60W power delivery capabilities.

Tall black iVANKY vertical docking station with multiple front ports including headphone jack, SD card slot, USB ports, laptop port, power button, and glowing green status light

It is an 11-in-1 dock, with four USB-A ports, three Thunderbolt 5 downstream ports, one upstream port, 2.5G Ethernet, an SD 4.0 card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It can handle dual 6K 60Hz displays on a Mac, though it can go up to dual 8K screens if you have a Thunderbolt 5 Windows device.

The iVanky FusionDock Pro 3 Thunderbolt 5 Dock is available from Amazon, priced at $299.99, 23% down from the list price.

OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock

The OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock eliminates one of the pain points of travelling with a Thunderbolt 4 dock by embedding the power supply into the dock enclosure itself. It’s one of our favorite docks, scoring 4 out of 5 in our review.

A rectangular dark gray docking station with grooves on top, labeled 'Thunderbolt Go Dock,' featuring various ports including USB, audio, and card reader slots on the front side.

It has three Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 ports, one USB 2.0, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1 with full HDR support, an SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also provides 90W of power delivery through the Thunderbolt host port.

The OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock is available from Amazon, priced at $179.99, 28% off the list price.

Ugreen Revodok Max 2131 Thunderbolt 5 Dock

An Intel-certified dock, the Rgreen Revodok Max 2131 is a 13-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 dock that has four Thunderbolt 5 ports for blistering transfer speeds. It also has support for dual 6K 60Hz screens or one 8K display.

The port selection extends to include four more USB-A ports, one USB-C, an SD/TF card slot, and a 2.5Gbit Ethernet port. There’s also a 180W GaN adapter, up to 140W for charging a MacBook, and dual-layer aluminum cooling.

The Ugreen Revodok Max 2131 Thunderbolt 5 Dock is available from Amazon, priced at $299.99, 25% down from the list price of $399.99.
