Clan N: A Brawler From the Past for the Future, Available Now as Xbox Play Anywhere Title

Nowadays we are living on the edge of technology, especially if you look at gaming with ray tracing, high resolutions, detailed textures, and more. In addition, game mechanics are full of more and more features, requiring much more investment to learn and advance. During my childhood in 80s, where the “computer game” term was still very new, 8-bit was the high tech and games were pick-up-and-play. It sometimes feels that maybe things are getting overly complicated lately!

I had this feeling for a long time when I first found my one man studio, Creamative, where I thought there was a gap where the simplicity of the past could be merged with today’s advancement to find an optimal point. This clearly reflected to Creamative’s slogan as well, “Games for the future from the past!” With this philosophy, I started to shape up my first project back in 2014 and today it finally came to alive as, Clan N.

Clan N

Clan N is a solid beat’em up/brawler game where it’s roots can be found at the 80s classic arcades gameplay and it merges it with today’s modern brawler mechanics. It’s graphics are borrowed from the past as simple pixel graphics but it’s own unique style has a certain charm. On the other hand, its gameplay mechanics is borrowed from future. Benefiting from today’s modern brawling mechanics, your playground is full 3D space unlike horizontal brawlers you find commonly in today’s gaming market.

Once you start the game, you first notice the tight controls. Attacking and throwing shurikens feel so satisfying as if you are the agile martial artist that you always wanted to. Where you start with a simple button mashing tactic, you soon realize that you need to dodge/roll and block when needed to progress till the end. It contains both local and online co-op mode to get the most out of enjoyment with your friends whether you are in the same room or all around the world!

Clan N

Another unique aspect of Clan N is its minigames. Each levels has its own minigame tightly integrated into the main game. As a part of modern game culture, we acknowledge the huge impact of mobile games and their casual nature which had a big influence on the design of our minigames. These minigames, once played within the campaign, will be unlocked to be played separately with or without your friends for a high score challenge.

One other feature we challenged was the online co-op feature. Again having roots in the arcades, a great beat ‘em up/brawler game would be the most enjoyable once played with more than one person. While it would be ideal to have all your friends sit in the same couch to share your laughs, there are cases that this may not be possible especially if you think the tough days we are going through nowadays. This is where the online co-op feature gets into place and always allows you to find a friend no matter they are in your neighborhood or in the other side of the world.

Clan N

Hope you liked what you read and we would like to invite all of you to join our little journey starting August 6…

At last, stay safe and keep gaming!

Clan N

Creamative

1

Fight alone or with your friends, master the art of battle and bring peace back to the land in this arcade inspired epic brawler! Clan N is a beat’em up game which combines the classic arcades gameplay with today’s modern brawlers. With a fast paced nature, you have to dodge, block and use your light, heavy and special attacks wisely to progress. With an ancient far east theme, you’ll get challenged across 7 different levels with many different enemies, Mid/End level bosses and casual mini games integrated into main gameplay. About Clan N : Clan N is an ancient samurai group in the region of “Far East”, sworn to protect the realm from all who seek its destruction. The four group members consist of the shinobigatana-wielding ninja Akira, the staff-striking Reina, the dual sword-swinging Daiki, and the sickle-slashing monk Tarou. After years of training and dedication to their respective craft, each character has uncovered their own unique magical abilities. Akira shoots pulse-filled lightning bolts, Reina controls the ground with vicious earthquake shocks, Daiki swirls up brutal tornado waves, and Tarou can call for the help of Dragons. Story : Akuji is a former samurai of the Clan N that discovered the balance of the world lies in three areas: Peace, Knowledge, and Time. Akuji found that if you knock the world of one of these, you can harness the powers of “spiritual imbalance” and grow stronger from it. As a result of pursuing spiritual imbalance, he was shunned from the samurai temple and kicked out of Clan N. What Akuji didn’t know was that attaining spiritual imbalance would not only give you dark powers, it consumed your light and the purity of your life. Following his banishment from the temple and Clan N, Akuji was able to destroy peace by slaughtering villages and retain the power of those he killed, thus absorbing conflict and electric sorcery abilities, becoming the most powerful sorcerer warrior in the Far East. While he continued to grow, Akuji formed Seishin Gun, the spirit group, to join his conquest and remove anyone standing in their path. Once his actions were discovered by Clan N, they set on a journey to stop the villainous pillaging by Akuji and Seishin Gun. About the Characters : Reina and Daiki grew as siblings in a southern samurai clan. Reina was not taught the teaching of the clan like her brother Daiki but still observed and learned the ways mastering the staff. She eventually took onto Shamanism as well becoming one of the first shinobi shamans in the land as a young woman. Akira was a childhood friend adopted into the clan as a lost child wandering in the outer lands chased by a pack of wolves, barely making it to the village. Daiki’s father took the child in and raised them, although Akira typically covers himself from head to after severe scarring. Tarou was from the same monastery as Akuji (prior to his joining of Clan N) and learned under the same teachers. Akuji returned to the Monk’s temple many years later and stole an ancient scroll that explained how to destroy the pillars of balance and extract their spiritual imbalance. In pursuit of Akuji, Tarou traced his steps to Clan N. After explaining the situation to the existing three members, they all decided to team up and take down Akuji.

Xbox Insider Release Notes – Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha (2008.200804-0000)

Hey Xbox Insiders! We have a new Xbox One update preview coming to the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha ring. It’s important we note that some updates made in these preview OS builds include background improvements that ensure a quality and stable build for Xbox One.

We continue to post these release notes, even when the noticeable changes to the UI are minimal, so you’re aware when updates are coming to your device. Details can be found below!

Xbox Insider Release Notes

System Update Details:

  • OS version released: RS_XBOX_RELEASE_2008\19041.4067.200804-0000
  • Available: 2 p.m. PT – August 5, 2020
  • Mandatory: 3 a.m. PT – August 6, 2020

New Features and Experiences

We have exciting news! Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha users can expect something new coming to their Xbox One update preview.

Introducing the Game Activity tab!

The Xbox team is ready to preview a new experience that makes it easier to discover game related activities around the game you are currently playing or the last game you played.  We want users to know what is happening around their favorite games, hunt for achievements, and discover new ways to engage with liked minded gamers. With this goal in mind, while this feature is active, a random subset of users in Preview will now see the Game Activity tab in place of the Achievement tab, which includes:

  • Achievements: Achievements are here to stay! Your top option on the tab is still the list of Achievements for the game you are playing or your most recently played game. We have added new sorting and filtering options to the list.
    • Notice the new shortcut to turn the Achievement Tracker On/Off
    • You can view the list of your Recent Achievements in your notifications. From the Home tab in the Guide, scroll down and select the notification bell icon to see them.
    • You will find your next achievements and the monthly Gamerscore leaderboard by selecting your Profile in the Guide, then scroll down past “My subscriptions” to locate both options.
    • Of course, you can still find and compare your achievement history, Gamerscore leaderboard, and Game Pass quest progress on your Profile.
  • Friends playing: See which friends are playing, or have played, this game.
  • Looking for group: See LFG posts for this game to find new people to play with.
  • Events: See Suggested Events that are happening in-game or access the ones you have expressed interest in!
  • Official club: Check out updates from developers and see posts from the Xbox Live community.

We want to gather initial feedback and analyze usage to evaluate these changes, and adjusting this experience based on your reports. Achievements are a pillar of the Xbox ecosystem, and we want to support them alongside promoting different ways to engage with your favorite games!

New Store Experience

We’ll be rolling this update out gradually, so if you’re an Xbox Insider, you may begin to see the new Microsoft Store on Xbox starting today. The experience will be available for more Insiders over time before it rolls out to all users this fall. If you encounter any issues, please submit feedback via Report a problem under Category > Apps and Subcategory > Microsoft Store. For more information on the new Store experience, read the blog post here.

A few things to note:

  • The new Store will only be available to a random subset of users located in the US, UK, Canada (English only) and Germany for the initial release to Preview.
  • Some functionality with the new Store Experience is not working at this time, you can read more information under the “Known Issues” section of this post.
  • Users should report all unexpected behavior in the New Store Experience on the console via Report a problem. In addition, If a user encounters an issue that requires billing/payment assistance, they should still contact Support for assistance in resolving these issues.

Happening now

  • We are previewing this new experience to a random subset of users and as a result it may appear in the People area of the Guide or at the top of the Friends list; some users may not have access to Happening now in either area and this is expected behavior.
  • Happening now brings forward friends that are joinable in parties or in games making it easier to jump into activities with others. The version of Happening now in the People area of the Guide combines friends who are together so you can easily see groups of friends that are with each other.
  • For friends that are in joinable games, happening now introduces a new companion feature called “Ask to join”. Jumping straight into a game uninvited with a friend can feel awkward or that it might disrupt them. The ask to join feature provides a way to reach out to the person playing and let them know you are interested in playing with them. If so, the “Request to join” they receive as a notification gives them a quick way to reply with an invite to the game.

    • Note: We are still investigating the issue, please report the issue again from the console if you have done so with a prior update and are still seeing this behavior.
  • Some titles in collection may appear with a “trial” tag incorrectly in collection.

System

  • Users may see the four new languages (Hungarian, Czech, Slovak and Greek) available as options for the keyboard. While they can be selected, they are non-functional at this time.

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

Test Your Reasoning Skills with Seasons of the Samurai, Available Now as Xbox Play Anywhere Title

Summary

  • Put your brain to the test with fun brain teasers that grow in complexity and experience Japan in vivid colors
  • Control the seasons and the time of day to reconfigure the world around you and find a path for war
  • Season of the Samurai is available now on Xbox One

No guns. No bad guys. No blood. It’s just you against the machine. Seasons of the Samurai is a series of puzzles set in medieval Japan that challenges you to use your brain in new and unexpected ways.

Don’t worry, you are a samurai with special powers: You have the ability to control the seasons and change the time of day as you please. Every change you make rearranges the configuration of the level you are playing, creating new paths and blocking others as you attempt to make your way to the Torri (that’s a Japanese gate that takes you to another world).

Seasons of the Samurai

Your journey takes you through the 47 prefectures of Japan, from Okinawa to Hokkaido. Each level challenges you to solve a puzzle that is slightly more difficult than the previous one, culminating with Hokkaido, a real brain twister that will have you scratching your head with your Xbox controller.

All puzzles require logic reasoning, good spatial and memory skills. The ground of each level is made up of hexagonal blocks that move up and down. You can only step to the next block if it is at the same level as the one you are standing on. New mechanisms appear throughout your journey, including sliding platforms and rotating blocks, bringing new challenges and keeping the experience fresh and enjoyable.

Seasons of the Samurai

Throughout your journey you will recognize many landmarks and cultural icons of Japan, such as the great Torri of Hiroshima, the temples of Kyoto, the castle of Matsumoto, the houses made of hay of Chubu, and the great bridges leading to the snowy villages of Tohoku.

A dynamic score played by traditional Japanese instruments like the shamisen and taiko drums accompanies you along the way. The music adapts to the rhythm of your movements, gaining in richness and complexity as you increase the pace, while easing out when you pause to plan your next steps.

Seasons of the Samurai

As you make your way through Japan, you discover the scattered pieces of a Japanese painting. Collect them all to recreate the complete canvas.

You also earn belts of different colors as you gain experience, starting with a white belt and going all the way to the black belt.

Seasons of the Samurai

The combinations of seasons and times of day affect the angle of the shadows and the tint of the sunlight, creating beautiful and realistic environments. Lanterns replace the sun and light your way through the night. Leaves in the trees reflect all four seasons depicting the glowing reds of the maple trees in autumn and the bright purple and pink tints of the cherry trees in the spring.

Recent technical advancements make the game visuals standout. Depth of field effortlessly directs your attention to the action while chromatic aberration and vignette convey the impression that the whole scene was shot using a movie camera.

Seasons of the Samurai

Seasons of the Samurai leverages the power of the Xbox One X console to deliver stunning high-resolution images in 4K and deep colors in HDR.

After an exclusive introduction during Xbox Games Showcase, Seasons of the Samurai is now available worldwide on Xbox One and PC. Check it out in the Microsoft Store!

Control the season and the time of day in order to change the configuration of each level, allowing the samurai a safe passage to the next level. All puzzles require logic reasoning and good memory skills. New mechanisms appear as you make your way through each prefecture of Japan, increasing the challenge throughout your journey. The combinations of seasons and times of day create realistic sunlight conditions. Leaves in the trees reflect all four seasons depicting the glowing reds of the maple trees in autumn and the beautiful purple and pink tints of the cherry trees in the spring. In its first two days of availability, we’ve had over one million players explore the mysterious backyard, battle giant spiders, and gather tons of useful materials — which has absolutely blown away our small team of 13 here at Obsidian!

With so many of you interested in our game, we can’t wait to bring you more to do in Grounded every month. As we look forward to building Grounded together, we want to let you know that this journey is just the start of the adventure and we will be making continued updates and fixes to ensure the best player experience possible. Also, starting August 27, we will begin our monthly delivery of game updates.

If you haven’t joined the growing community, come play in the yard this weekend! In Grounded, players wake up in a suburban backyard after being mysteriously shrunken to the size of an ant. Guided by a robot named BURG.L, players must explore, build, and survive while confronting the dangers and perils that come with suddenly being the size of an insect.

Play single-player or co-op with friends as Max, Pete, Willow, or Hoops, and be sure to watch out for those pesky spiders. Oh, if you have Arachnophobia, we have you covered with our Arachnophobia Mode making them way less…spider-like.

Grounded is now available on Xbox Game Preview with Xbox Game Pass and Steam Early Access for $29.99 USD.

  • OS version released: RS_XBOX_RELEASE_2008\19041.4038.200730-0000
  • Available: 2 p.m. PT – July 31, 2020
  • Mandatory: 3 a.m. PT – August 1, 2020

New Features and Experiences

We have exciting news! Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha users can expect something new coming to their Xbox One update preview.

Settings

  • A new, simplified setting is available in Devices & connections > Remote features. Remote features allow you to connect to your Xbox anytime from your mobile device to install new games, play games from your console using Xbox remote play, or turn on and control your console.
  • Console Streaming will now be referred to as Xbox remote play. You will start to see this name change reflected in various experiences on console and mobile in the coming weeks.

Fixes Implemented

Thanks to the hard work of Xbox engineers, we are happy to announce the following fixes have been implemented for this build:

Guide

  • Fixed an issue where some users would be disconnected from party chat when accessing Guide.

System

  • Various updates to properly reflect local languages across the console
    • Note: Users participating in Preview may see “odd” text across the console, for more information go here.

Known Issues

We understand some issues have been listed in previous Xbox Insider Release Notes. These items aren’t being ignored, but it will take Xbox engineers more time to find a solution.

We’re still tracking these known issues:

Audio

  • Users who have Dolby Atmos enabled and console display settings set to 120hz with 36 bits per pixel (12-bit) are experiencing loss of Dolby Atmos audio in some situations.
    • Workaround: Disable 120hz or set Video Fidelity to 30 bits per pixel (10-bit) or lower.
  • Some users have reported that Dolby Atmos for Headphones audio setting changes when the console is rebooted/updated.
    • Note: If you attempt to set the audio to Dolby Atmos for Headphones and see a message advising you to launch the Dolby Access App, please file feedback before launching the app.

Game DVR

  • Some users have reported that clips are being recorded without audio. We are aware and investigating.
    • Note: When reporting the issue, please be sure to include details about what resolution, length, and game you were trying to record.

Guide

  • Some users have reported that the audio mixer cannot be used to adjust chat/game audio levels.

My Games & Apps

  • We’ve received reports of users being unable to edit or create Groups. We are aware of the issue and investigating.
  • Users have reported seeing black tiles instead of game artwork when browsing their collection.

Make sure to use Report a problem to keep us informed of your issue. We may not be able to respond to everyone, but the data we’ll gather is crucial to finding a resolution.

What Happens to Your Feedback

Microsoft Flight Simulator to Launch on Steam on August 18; TrackIR and VR Supported

In addition to availability on Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass for PC (Xbox Game Pass for PC is currently in Beta), Microsoft Flight Simulator will also be coming to Steam on August 18. We are thrilled to announce that Steam pre-orders for the Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator start today!

Listening to the community has been a priority for the development team since the announcement of Microsoft Flight Simulator in June 2019. Two of the most requested features we’ve been hearing about from the Community are TrackIR and VR support. Today we are excited to announce that Microsoft Flight Simulator will have TrackIR support available on day one, and VR support will be available later this year in time for the launch of the HP Reverb G2!

TrackIR

TrackIR is the premier head tracking solution delivering full six degree of freedom (6DOF) camera control for an ultra-immersive simulator experience. TrackIR allows simmers to enjoy a low latency mouse free look around with Microsoft Flight Simulator in full 4K/HDR, while still allowing easy interaction with a suite of hardware peripherals.

HP Reverb G2

Created by HP in collaboration with Microsoft and Valve, the upcoming Reverb G2 headset has a bright, high resolution display, excellent tracking, and immersive audio to take maximum advantage of Microsoft Flight Simulator’s incredible visuals and fully 3D soundscape. The HP Reverb G2 will be available later this fall and the VR update will be a free update for all Microsoft Flight Simulator players.

In addition to Track IR and VR, we also continue to work with partners like Honeycomb Aeronautical, Logitech G, Thrustmaster, Virtual Fly and many other manufacturers to further improve your Microsoft Flight Simulator experience. We are excited to support Honeycomb’s upcoming Bravo Throttle Quadrant and Thrustmaster’s new TCA Sidestick and Quadrant Airbus edition peripherals. We are also committed to supporting existing peripherals and home cockpits via an updated SimConnect.

Xbox Game Studios and Asobo Studio are committed to the community, and the ongoing support of Microsoft Flight Simulator with experience enhancing features like those we’ve announced today. But we have even more planned post-launch! In the future, we will update our development roadmap with continued simulator updates such as themed DLC bundles, free world updates and more. We will be sharing more news in the coming months.

Free World Updates

Microsoft Flight Simulator heralds a new era of data-driven flight simulation. One of the exciting implications of this is that the data that makes up the world is always improving, and players can look forward to a simulator that evolves over time. Thanks to our partnership with Bing, players will enjoy new, even better terrain, and an ever evolving, machine learning-fueled simulator that grows over time.

We have so much ahead for Microsoft Flight Simulator, but even on day one simmers will get highly detailed aircraft, a new checklist system, live air traffic, dynamic weather, new aerodynamic modeling, as well as all the many other features we shared in our launch date announcement, all within a beautifully crafted and rendered world. Whether you are new to flight simulation or an aviation pro, the sky is calling in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
