Hackers Have Already Found A Way To Maximise Items And PM Tickets In Pokémon Quest

The free-to-play pocket monster RPG Pokémon Quest only launched on Switch at the very end of last month, but hackers have already found a way to manipulate the game’s save files to net themselves as many items and PM Tickets as they like.

A member of the homebrew community has released a save reader and writer program which you can use to manually edit save files within the game. Among other things, this means that users can modify their profile’s PM Ticket count (which are used to play levels in the game and would usually be obtained through purchase or time limitations) and maximise their items to a count of 999.

Of course, with Pokémon Quest being a free-to-play title that relies on microtransactions for income, a hack that bypasses any need to buy in-game items could prove to be very bad news indeed for Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. We recently saw Niantic deleting save data of Pokémon GO players who had been using illegal third party software, so could we see a similar fate here?

If you want tips on how to legitimately get your hands on PM Tickets and other in-game goodies, make sure to check out our handy guide. Have you been playing this pocket-sized adventure on your Switch?

Random: Making Giant Pokémon Art From Rubik’s Cubes

We see a lot of artists take on the world of Pokémon here at Nintendo Life – just a quick ponder online will bring up dozens of super-talented people getting their masterpieces down on paper – but we don’t usually see anyone using Rubik’s Cubes.

These images, uploaded by Twitter user epee415, show the awesome art pieces you can create with an awful lot of patience, floor space, and budget for plastic toys.

It’s certainly a very different creative angle and one that we find strangely impressive. We can’t solve a Rubik’s Cube at the best of times so being clever enough to form them into art would be near impossible.

If you’re wanting to try this yourself at home, though, make sure to have a long think about where you want to place your masterpieces. Doors are not your friends.

Do you make any Nintendo-based art? What is the most ambitious thing you’ve ever created? Feel free to share your crazy creations with us down below.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Speeds Its Way Back Into The UK Charts Top Ten

With all the excitement surrounding E3 at the moment, it can be pretty easy to drift off into dreams of future titles that may or may not even exist. Just for a moment, though, let’s return to the present to see how Nintendo titles have faired in the UK charts this week.

As you can probably tell from the title of this article, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is Nintendo’s highest charting game this week, speeding and screeching its way back up to eighth place from last week’s eleventh. Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are still hanging on to top 20 positions – currently sitting at numbers 15 and 20 respectively – but it’s an otherwise quiet week for Nintendo entries on the whole.

The newly released action RPG Vampyr, World Cup taster FIFA 18 and critically acclaimed God of War are currently stealing the show at the top of the pile. Here’s the top ten:

  1. Vampyr
  2. FIFA 18
  3. God of War
  4. Detroit: Become Human
  5. Far Cry 5
  6. Fallout 4
  7. State of Decay 2
  8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  9. GTA V
  10. Overwatch

What do you make of this week’s charts? Do you expect any surprise reveals at Nintendo’s E3 Direct that could dent this list in the coming weeks? Let us know in the comments below.

GameStop Still Seeing “Very Steady Level Of Demand” For Switch And Its Games

American video game retailer GameStop has revealed its latest financial results for Q1 2018, with drops being present across the board in comparison to the same time last year. Of course, Q1 of last year saw the successful launch of the Switch, and it was likely expected that revenue would be down without such an event to boost sales, but the console is still performing well for the store on the whole.

The company’s CFO Robert Lloyd has stated that there is still a “very steady level of demand for Switch”, suggesting that the console’s initial hype hasn’t worn down too much over the last 15 months. He also mentions the “surprising” success of titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which continues to sell well each and every week.

“… with respect to the Switch we did very well at the launch. It was the hottest thing that customers could get their hands on. We sold a lot of it in the two months of the quarter that it was in the marketplace. I think that we are seeing a very steady level of demand for Switch right now and a very steady level of demand for the Switch games. It’s surprising when I read the reports on a weekly basis how well even Zelda which launched a year ago continues to do on a week-to-week basis.”

It certainly feels like the Switch is on course to be a very successful milestone in Nintendo’s hardware history, and maybe the company’s target to shift another 20 million consoles this financial year is very much in sight. Hopefully we’ll have a clearer idea of the Switch’s future after tomorrow’s E3 Direct.

Oxenfree Developer’s Next Project Afterparty Has Been Confirmed For Switch

Oxenfree developer Night School Studio has announced that its next game Afterparty, which was first mentioned at the end of last year, will definitely be coming to the Switch.

Afterparty is an adventure game about two protagonists Milo and Lola, a pair of recently deceased best friends who find themselves facing an eternity in Hell. Luckily for them, though, there is one loophole: those who can outdrink Satan can return to Earth. Every step of the game is up to you, as you uncover the mystery of why you’ve been damned – and drink the big guy under the table.

Here are some key features for you to check out:

Features:
– Party as two best friends: Control Milo and Lola with an intelligent conversation system that changes the story and your relationships based on every decision. Uncover their personality quirks and foggy history during the wild events of the night
– Drink for your lives: Hell bars offer a variety of libations, each with different Liquid Courage effects to imbue Milo and Lola with specialized dialogue options and abilities
– Demonic activities: The underworld’s pubs are packed with drunken games to pass the time. Beer pong, dance-offs, karaoke and chugging competitions all mesh with the dynamic dialogue system for a seamless narrative bender
– Change Hell forever: Players’ actions won’t only affect Milo and Lola, but also the people and places of Hell. Finishing a quest on one island might result in the total destruction of another
– Flirt with Satan
– Explore an interconnected network of underworld islands via the River Styx
– An original soundtrack by scntfc (OXENFREE, Sword & Sworcery)

The game is scheduled to launch on Switch in 2019. Will you be keeping tabs on this one?

Unravel Two Creative Director Explains Why The Game Isn’t On Switch

During the EA Play conference a couple of days ago, one of the stand-out games was undoubtedly Unravel Two – a sequel to 2016’s Unravel which launched immediately after the show on other platforms. The co-op platforming nature of the game, the cuddly and adorable aesthetic, and the fact that the two characters are the exact same colours as the Joy-Con controllers had Switch owners wondering why Nintendo’s console had been left out.

The Creative Director of Coldwood Interactive, Martin Sahlin (the man who passionately presented the new game on stage at E3), is aware of the comments surrounding this question and has addressed the issue via Twitter. Apparently, the game’s absence is not one that the studio wanted, but rather a result of a lack of resources thanks to its relatively small size.

Sahlin goes on to say that the studio hasn’t given up hope on bringing the game to Switch, and if a way to do so presents itself, it could well become a reality.

Questions will once again be asked of EA – the publisher behind the Unravel series – as a lack of resources and funding within Coldwood Interactive could easily be supported by the company if it saw a Switch port as being worthwhile. After recent comments from the game’s producer stating that Madden 19 won’t appear on Switch because it’s “what’s best” for the game, and this lack of desire to fund a seemingly perfect fit for the console in Unravel Two, it seems EA is still strangely hesitant to support Nintendo’s system.

Would you like to see Unravel Two arrive on Switch? Do you think EA is missing a trick by ignoring the system all too often? Let us know your thoughts below.

Video: The Unsung Heroes of the Nintendo Switch eShop

One of the downsides of the Switch having quite so many lovely games (and a little bit of filler) is that certain games that demand attention get lost at the wayside. Frankly it’s a travesty, and so we decided to swing that proverbial spotlight around and onto ten games we feel are worthy of significantly more credit and attention. Why ten? You must be new to YouTube.

So make sure you give the video above these very ramblings a good watch whilst we mentally prepare ourselves for the week ahead. If you’re the spoilery sort, you could always just look at the list of related games below. Just know that if you do, Father Christmas will know.

Dead Or Alive 6 Might Come To Switch If Technical Hurdles Are Overcome

During an E3 segment with IGN showcasing Dead or Alive 6, the team behind the long-time fighting game series was queried about the possibility of the latest entry coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Shedding some light on the matter, it was explained technical hurdles would need to be overcome “in the coming days” before the game was even considered for the device. Maybe then, there would be a chance.

The developer Team Ninja has maintained good relations with Nintendo over the years, taking on the responsibility of Metroid: Other M during the Wii generation, Hyrule Warriors in the Wii U era and more recently handling Fire Emblem Warriors on the Switch. Back in 2011, the 3DS also played host to the team’s Dead or Alive: Dimensions, which was praised as a quality portable fighting game.

Would you like to see the Dead or Alive series eventually make its way across to the Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments.
