Storm Boy: The Game Brings Single-Player Interactive Storytelling To Switch

Blowfish Studios has announced that Storm Boy: The Game, a video game adaptation of the book of the same name, is headed to Switch “soon”.

Based on Colin Thiele’s 1964 children’s book, Storm Boy takes place on the beaches of South Australia near the mouth of the Murray River. The titular protagonist rescues orphaned pelican chicks there, and one of these later becomes the child’s pet and faithful companion, lovingly named Mr. Percival.

The game will allow players to experience an interactive retelling of this classic tale by taking control of both Storm Boy and Mr. Percival in key moments, such as when the pair need to rescue stranded sailors during a storm. You’ll also be able to relive the friendship shared by both characters through a range of mini-games including sand drawing, sailing, cockle hunting, playing fetch, sand surfing, pelican feeding, and more.

The trailer gives off a rather relaxing vibe, which would suit the genre very nicely indeed, so this could well be one for those who like to enjoy peaceful and calming titles. More details surrounding the game’s release date and pricing are expected to be shared soon, so make sure to check back for new information over the coming weeks.

European Nintendo Online Stores Rebranded As ‘My Nintendo’ Stores, New Stock Incoming

The majority of European Nintendo online stores are having a bit of a facelift over the next month or so, all rebranding to go along with the My Nintendo name – the same branding used for My Nintendo rewards.

For those not in the know, mainland European stores have always operated in a very different, and rather weakened, way to those found in the US and UK. For quite some time, the European stores have mostly offered digital game codes and select physical merchandise, with only the UK’s store containing a much wider range of goods.

Scheduled to fully take effect this September – the same month as Nintendo’s upcoming online service’s launch – the stores are said to be updating with new merchandise, hopefully offering a larger selection of products for those in European countries.

Perhaps the most important part of the change, however, is the new name. As you may be aware, the My Nintendo rewards system offers new discounts to players every couple of weeks or so, with customers able to spend points that they’ve collected through purchasing Nintendo games. The service has replaced Club Nintendo, a similar system which allowed customers to get their hands on exclusive physical goods, but the new service has been disappointing on the whole. Does the rebranding mean we’ll see a higher level of My Nintendo reward interaction across stores? We’ll have to wait and see.

Would you like to see Nintendo’s official stores make use of My Nintendo rewards in a greater way? Why not share your ideas with us in the comments below.

Mario Games Litter UK Top 10 But Crash Bandicoot Keeps Top Spot For Sixth Week Running

With another lack of major arrivals this week, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has managed to secure a sixth consecutive week at the top of the UK gaming charts.

The UK charts have an increasingly familiar look about them this week with Crash sitting at number one and LEGO The Incredibles also keeping hold of its number two spot directly behind. Both titles have had multiple weeks of joy at the lofty heights of the table, and look set to stay there – or thereabouts – as we enter a relatively quiet month for new releases.

Switch sales have been steadily rising over the summer months, and while we’d like to think that this is thanks to ‘Nintendo Karen‘-style roof parties taking place up and down the country, this is actually more likely because of Nintendo’s evergreen list of big-hitters. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe actually tops the individual format chart this week, selling more copies than the highest-selling version of Crash Bandicoot (which was on Xbox One); it was the combined sales of Crash on all three platforms which helped it to stay at number one on the all formats chart.

Speaking of that all formats chart, here’s this week’s top ten:

1. (1) Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
2. (2) LEGO The Incredibles
3. (5) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4. (3) The Crew 2
5. (7) Grand Theft Auto V
6. (6) Call of Duty: WWII
7. (4) God of War
8. (13) Super Mario Odyssey
9. (9) Jurrasic World Evolution
10. (10) Mario Tennis Aces

Did you buy any of these chart-topping games this week? Any surprises this time around? Let us know your thoughts below.

Zelda-Inspired Action Adventure Sikanda Is Making Its Way To The Switch

Austrian-based indie studio, Dyadic Games, is launching a Kickstarter for its 3D Action Adventure game known as Sikanda. It’s a title inspired by JRPG classics such as The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana and looks visually alike to the more recent release, Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas

The story is about a young hero who finds an ancient pendant named “Sikanda” and must then stop a group of sinister strangers from wiping out the moon. Over the course of the adventure, the hero finds several skills that transform the Sikanda into a variety of powerful weapons and tools – all of which help the hero to fight their way through dungeons and solve puzzles.

The game will allow players to choose either a male or female protagonist and guide them through a non-linear journey filled with side-quests, hidden treasures, and secret passages. The environments are built around gameplay mechanics, and the real-time action battles with multiple enemies will put your skills to the test. There’s also an epic soundtrack.

The Kickstarter campaign starts on 14 August, with the game currently scheduled to launch on the Nintendo Switch in 2020.

Windjammers Is Flying Onto The Switch eShop Later This Year

The 1994 competitive disc throwing arcade game Windjammers will be released on the Nintendo Switch later this year. The announcement was made during the Windjammers Global World Disc Throwing Championship at EVO 2018.

The Switch version is the same as other modern versions of the title, featuring a number of enhancements including online multi-player support.

In an email interview with Twin Galaxies, DotEmu’s CEO Cyrille Imbert said the title was an ideal fit for Nintendo’s system:

Windjammers is a two button game so that makes it perfect for what the Nintendo Switch offers in terms of portability and local multiplayer.

In terms of how online plays, Imbert explained:

Windjammers is a perfect game for online competition, so it just made sense to implement it and how to do it. For the online multiplayer rules, we applied the ones that were used for community tournaments in arcades and gathered feedback and opinion from the best players in the world.

Based on existing releases of the modern version of Windjammers, there are five game modes, online play, six characters, six environments, unlockable mini-games and reworked HD menus.

Take a look at the announcement trailer above, and tell us if you’re excited about this game eventually arriving on the Switch.

Minecraft Movie Delayed After Director Leaves Project

Troubled production cycles for movies based on popular video game franchises is seemingly ongoing. Minecraft: The Movie is now the latest one with problems, following Warner Bros. acquisition of Detective Pikachu.

The film originally revealed by the game’s creator Notch in 2014, when he posted about Mojang’s partnership with Warner Bros., is no longer scheduled to arrive in cinemas May 2019. The latest reports are the director and co-writer, Rob McElhenny, has walked away from the project.

Aaron and Adam Nee have now been brought in to direct the film and will also rewrite the script. This is purportedly the third director swap since the project’s beginning. The original one left over “creative differences” with Warner Bros.

Did you know a Minecraft movie was in production? Would you be interested in watching if it ever gets released? Are you a fan of video game movie adaptations? Tell us below.

Rumour: Foul-Mouthed Platformer Rad Rodgers: World One Listed For Switch

According to a listing on GameFly, THQ Nordic and Slipgate Studios’ ‘90s inspired platform game Rad Rodgers: World One will be making its way across to the Nintendo Switch at some point in the near future.

If you haven’t heard about this title before, it’s a game with plenty of attitude, humour and hardcore platforming fun. What differentiates it from the friendlier competition is its foul-mouthed cast of characters and “radical” weaponry.

The story is about a boy named Rad who is sucked into his television and finds himself starring in his very own video game. Dusty is Rad’s foul-mouthed console friend, who is now a battle-hardened veteran after many years of gaming. The pair must work their way through seven action-packed stages to save the World One’s jungle inhabitants and restore the Elder Tree as the guardian of the land.

If this does eventually make its way across to the Switch, would a game like this be of interest to you? Tell us in the comments.
