Fortnite Finally Gets A Career Tab On Switch, But It Doesn’t Do Anything

Fortnite

One of the most requested features for Fortnite on Switch, ever since it came to the console earlier this summer, has been to include the missing Career tab. This menu screen, which is present in other editions of the game, tracks your stats, playtime, account level, and crucially those tasty Victory Royales, but Switch owners have been missing out on the bragging rights fun thanks to the tab being frustratingly absent.

Today brings both fantastic, and utterly confusing news, as the Career tab has finally arrived in the Switch version of the game. That’s right, if you boot up your game right now (after downloading the most recent update), you’ll see the Career option towards the right-hand side of the tabs at the top of your screen.

Unfortunately, though, the system doesn’t seem to be working. We’ve put countless hours into the game, yet our stats have 0% statistics across the board, and even jumping into games now that the feature is live doesn’t have any effect. We decided to try things out with a festive Battle Royale showdown just a few moments ago, securing a position in the top 25, but that big 0 just won’t budge.

Despite just playing a match (and having over 130 hours of total playtime), our stats are still showing all zeros

Strangely, developer Epic Games hasn’t posted anything about the tab coming to the Switch version, with no communication being shared either online or via a press release. Could this be a mistake, with the feature not set to launch just yet? Or is it simply having a little bit of trouble in these early stages? We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

UK Charts: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Overtakes Splatoon 2 Lifetime Sales In UK

Smash

Despite only being on the market for three weeks, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has now sold more copies than Splatoon 2 in the UK.

The game has seen a 24% drop in physical sales this week, slipping down to fifth place in the UK charts, but its tremendous overall start means that it is already the fifth best-selling Switch game in the region. Other games in that Switch-specific top-five list are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (which is the best-selling Switch game in the UK by a large margin), Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!.

The Christmas number one, however, goes to Red Dead Redemption 2. The game managed to secure top spot for the second consecutive week, with sales rising by 26% to fight off the nearest competition.

Here’s a look at this week’s top ten all formats chart (physical sales only):

1. (1) Red Dead Redemption 2
2. (2) FIFA 19
3. (3) Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

6. (6) Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Video: This Delightful Snow Scene Concept Has Us Desperate For A Paper Ice Climbers Game

Iceclimber

Before today, if you’d have asked us which games we’d like Nintendo to reveal next year for Nintendo Switch, we doubt any of us would have come up with ‘Paper Ice Climbers’. Now, though, that is the only game we want to see, and we absolutely need it right now.

This sudden but very pressing dream has materialised thanks to the video in the tweet below. The clip shows a snow scene video game concept, with the protagonist seemingly taking an awful lot of inspiration from Nintendo’s very own Popo of Ice Climber fame.

We urge you to watch the entire 1:38 clip; some of the paper-based animations (which involve rolling around and turning into a paper aeroplane) are absolutely fantastic, and look like they could easily have come straight from the minds of Nintendo’s very own development team.

The clip comes from @ScrapPaperDev on Twitter, a somewhat mysterious account which has been documenting the development of a game called Scrap Story. The account regularly posts small clips of footage or behind-the-scenes info to its followers, updating them on the progress of this upcoming RPG, but very little is actually known about the game officially.

Even the video description for this teaser trailer (which is now slightly outdated) simply states, “That’s it. Did you really think a teaser would give more info than that?”

This could definitely be one to keep an eye on in the next few months but, until then, let us know your thoughts on the Ice Climber-style footage up above. Would you like to see Nintendo make a Paper Ice Climbers? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Random: Man Uses Disguised NES Zapper To Rob A Bank

Neszapperdisguised

The NES Zapper was a cool little piece of kit back in the day, allowing gaming fans to use a realistic peripheral to enhance their experiences in titles like Duck Hunt, Wild Gunman, and more. As always, though, someone out there has to go and ruin the fun, with one man being caught using the accessory in a shocking criminal offence.

The earliest NES Zapper models, originally released back in 1984, were almost entirely grey to fit alongside the NES’ colour schemes. Soon after, Nintendo completely changed the design to include bright orange sections, realising that the simplistic grey models could potentially be mistaken for real weapons if they were taken outside. Of course, wrapping the toy in dark tape sadly negates this bright colouring, and that is exactly what happened in this particular case.

The taped-up weapon was used by a man in Hermosillo, Mexico to rob a bank, with the accessory’s usually-bright colouring being almost entirely hidden from view. Bank workers reportedly described the man to local police who, after mounting an operation to find the culprit, managed to track him down and arrest him. The man in question is thought to have potentially been involved in up to 15 other crimes.

Video: Sonic Mania Adventures Animation Returns For A Holiday Special

One of the DLC highlights this year was the add-on content for the 2017 release Sonic Mania. The Plus version of the game added new characters, an encore mode and four-player split-screen.

As we begin to reflect on all the wonderful games released over the past year, the official Sonic The Hedgehog YouTube Channel has uploaded a new Sonic Mania Adventures episode. Part six is a holiday special, celebrating the spirit of giving and features Eggman, Metal Sonic, Amy and a brief cameo from Sonic.

Above is the full episode and below is the synopsis along with a message from the Sega team:

Metal Sonic and Eggman crash into the jungle after being defeated. Broken, abandoned and alone as seasons pass and the skies turn cold, a surprise appearance may change Metal Sonic’s fate forever.

We were so excited to work on this bonus holiday short of Sonic Mania Adventures for you all – a little something to celebrate the spirit of giving, and the kindness that can warm even the coldest of hearts.

Happy Holidays, from all of us at SEGA!

Nomada Studio “Thrilled” GRIS Is Already Turning A Profit

GRIS IMG

The visually stunning puzzle-platform game GRIS launched earlier this month. We praised it for being an absolute masterpiece and awarded it nine out of ten stars. If it wasn’t already on your radar, it should be, as it’s got to the point where it is now being referenced alongside some of the best indie titles of 2018.

Nomada Studio – the Barcelona-based team behind the game – recently posted a message on Twitter revealing the title had been positively-received in the launch week and was already turning a profit:

Although no exact sales figures were revealed, we’re guessing this is another game that’s likely to become a sales success on the Switch. For the uninformed, the title tells the story of a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. It’s further described as an emotionally-driven narrative. Below is the launch trailer:

Have you played GRIS yet? Was this on your wish list before it was released? Tell us below.

Random: Ed Boon Finds Recent Mortal Kombat 11 Roster Leak Laughable

Mortal Kombat 11 IMG

When any fighting game series is announced nowadays, a leak inevitably follows, often revealing information about the character roster or a surprise the developer intended to reveal later down the line. A lot of the time, these leaks can also turn out to be completely fake.

On the Mortal Kombat front, it’s no different. Series co-creator Ed Boon has been dealing with this sort of stuff for years now. According to GoNintendo, there’s a rumour the character roster for the recently revealed Mortal Kombat 11 has already been leaked. Sure, some of the characters on the list might show up in the game, but at this point in time there’s no substantial evidence. To combat this, Ed called out the rumour and told the individual who informed him about it to bring up the same tweet after the real roster was revealed:

In a way, it’s refreshing to see a response like this. Boon has basically knocked the wind out of this apparent leak and is having a laugh about it at the same time. Good job, Ed.

What do you think about all these character leaks that seem to surface whenever a fighting game is announced? Tell us below.

Tekken 7 For Switch Depends On Fan Demand According To Katsuhiro Harada

Tekken 7 IMG

The last time a Nintendo platform hosted a Tekken game was at the beginning of the Wii U era when Tag Tournament 2 released on the system. The game was generally well-received and has left Nintendo fans wondering when they’ll eventually be blessed with another entry in Bandai Namco’s established fighting series.

Over the past few years, Tekken 7 director and producer Katsuhiro Harada – also responsible for Pokkén Tournament on the Wii U and Switch – has remained tight-lipped when asked if the seventh entry would make its way across to Nintendo’s newest system. So, what’s the latest update? During an end of year Tekken Twitch live stream, Harada was asked yet again about bringing Tekken 7 to the Switch. He said it’s all dependant on how much the fans would like it, and to let the development team know if they would like to see the game on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.

Since the launch of the Switch in 2017, fighting games on the device have become increasingly popular. Next year is already shaping up to be quite special with Mortal Kombat 11 releasing in the first half of the year. Some of the previously released fighters on the platform include Dragon Ball FighterZ, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.

Would you like to see Tekken 7 or perhaps a future entry on the Switch? Show your support in the comments.

Video: Chucklefish Prepares For Battle With A New WarGroove Gameplay Trailer

To kill some time between now and the Q1 2019 release of WarGroove on the Switch, Chucklefish has released a new gameplay trailer for the long-awaited title. Based on the one-minute clip, the strategy game drawing comparisons to Intelligent Systems’ Advance Wars and Fire Emblem series looks incredibly promising.

The publisher, unfortunately, remains tight-lipped about when exactly the game will arrive in the first quarter of 2019. Originally it was scheduled for 2017 and has been repeatedly delayed. In October, we found out the title wouldn’t make 2018 as planned, as the development team wanted to ensure players would experience a “robust package” when the game was finally released.

In terms of what to expect, you’ll be able to save a kingdom in the campaign mode, play as multiple commanders, create your own adventure with the custom editor mode, engage in online play and test your skills in an arcade and puzzle mode.

Take a look at the trailer above and tell us if you’ll be ready for battle in Q1 2019.
