Nintendo Reveals The Switch eShop’s Best-Selling Games For April 2019 (Europe)

Not surprised Cuphead is doing well, it’s one of my favorite games and deserves the top spot for sure. Anyone saying otherwise is just hating. I haven’t seen a single legit criticism for it above, so yeah.

My only personal gripe with the game is that King Dice is a bit unfair at the end due to the fact you have to bounce off the pink cards he sends out, but he doesn’t send them out fast enough and I find myself getting hit because the pink card isn’t coming out before I start descending.

Other than that, pretty much flawless.

Lovecraft’s Untold Stories Comes To Switch Next Week With A Scary Action RPG Twist

Combining action-RPG traits with roguelite gameplay, and inspired by the works of the famous writer, Lovecraft’s Untold Stories is launching on Nintendo Switch next week.

Based on H.P. Lovecraft’s stories, the game has you experiencing cosmic horror first-hand. Said to contain “all sorts of myth monsters and all kinds of challenges that will test your sanity”, it’ll take you through randomly generated levels that vary depending on the character you’re playing with.

The game has received “very positive” user reviews on Steam since it launched on the platform earlier this year. We’ve got a list of main features for you to check out below if you’re interested in learning more.

Main features:

Fight hundreds of different monsters from the Cthulhu Mythos in this intense action roguelite.
Explore Lovecraft’s stories: every character has a storyline that crosses randomly generated levels set in different locations from Lovecraft’s stories, such as the hospital, the jungle, or the port city just to name a few.
Face the Great Old Ones: Great Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, Dagon, Shub-Niggurath, and Azathoth await you in special levels.
Investigate thoroughly: explore every corner to find secret levels and knowledge about the Great Old Ones
Learn about the Mythos to fight them: to have a chance at fighting the Great Old Ones you need to acquire knowledge about them, or their mere presence will drive you insane.
Madness awaits: in the course of your adventures you will have to make some decisions, and taking the wrong ones will shake your sanity. If it gets too low, you will start losing your mind – and if you go mad you will take your own life to escape the horror.
Pick your hero: Choose between 5 different characters, detective, the thief, the professor, the witch, and the ghoul.
Different playstyles: every investigator has a different combat style and skills, but levels also vary depending on who you’re playing them with – so the gameplay experience is totally different.
Collect and improve weapons, items, and artifacts. Each character has a set of weapons and items, and there are hundreds of other items you can find and use!
Look for clues and special items to unlock secrets and new stories.

It’ll be available from the Nintendo Switch eShop on 10th May, just one week from today.

Does this look like it could be your kind of thing? Have you already tried it out on Steam? Tell us below.

Looks Like Ubisoft’s Child Of Light Isn’t Getting A Sequel After All

Col

One of Ubisoft’s more left-field projects – and one of its best, we’d argue – is Child of Light. The game originally launched on Wii U back in 2014 and has since seen a rerelease on Switch, both times enchanting our minds enough to have us hoping for another helping with a lovely sequel or two.

At one stage, a sequel seemed very likely indeed – the game’s creative director once said that some “very cool projects” for the Child of Light universe were in the works, and eventually shared an image teasing a ‘Child of Light 2’ – but it would appear that the game isn’t on the way after all.

Speaking to VGC, the very same creative director, Patrick Plourde, has revealed that the game is well formed in his head but isn’t being worked on – to the best of his knowledge, at least.

“I know the major beats, the location, and that it would feature multiple protagonists. It would have two protagonists going on different paths in life with different motivations, linked by their friendship.

“I don’t know if there’s a Child of Light 2 that is in production, Ubisoft is big, but I’m not working on it. Right now, I don’t think there’s a Child of Light 2 being produced… I’m not holding my breath.”

Plourde tells VGC that the plan for Child of Light 2 was partly inspired by Swan Lake, with its story exploring love, friendship, and how people change as they grow up.

It’s a shame that we might never get to see this in action, but the situation seems almost fitting. Another inspiration for the game’s theme of people and the way in which they change came from the dev team who worked on the original game – a team which has now, for the most part, disbanded.

Have you played Child of Light? Would you have liked to see this sequel make it to release? Let us know in the usual place.

PlatinumGames Shares More Detail On Bayonetta 3’s Unorthodox Development

If you’re as eager to get your hands on Bayonetta 3 as we are, you probably spotted our story yesterday which shared the news of a change in the development process for the series. Now, we have a little more info on the subject thanks to PlatinumGames studio head, Atsushi Inaba.

Talking to VGC, Inaba reveals that the change in development is centred around the game’s structure, with the original games being created in an orthodox, chronological order. This looks to be entirely out of the window for Bayonetta 3, perhaps explaining why the studio previously said the game would be “crazier” than ever before.

“With Bayonetta 1 and 2 we had basically an orthodox development process, at least for us. We did stage one, then stage two, then stage three and built up the drama and the pacing chronologically. For Bayonetta 3, we can say that we learned enough from making the past two games to change our process in a way that’s different to what I just described.”

So, is this something that players will notice? Or will the end result feel just like previous entries? VGC put that very question to Inaba, too.

“Maybe the players will recognise this as well. And that’s all the hints you get!”

The first tasty slice of footage can’t come soon enough for this one. Will things really be that different? Will it be good different, or bad different?

We’ll let you mull that one over in the comments.

Saints Row: The Third Gets Another Crazy Trailer For Nintendo Switch

Earlier this week, we shared with you the first in a series of trailers set to be released for Saints Row: The Third – The Full Package’s upcoming launch on Switch. Now, the second has arrived, and it’s almost as bonkers as the last.

The footage in this video takes place after the failed robbery of The Stilwater 1st National Bank. The Saints are taken to the private plane of Phillipe Loren, bank owner and mastermind behind criminal organisation, The Syndicate. With two rival gangs on a plane, 30,000 feet above Stilwater, things get pretty hectic.

Just like last time, the footage you see is from the Switch edition of the game, all captured with the console running in docked mode at 1080p. It’s nice to see Switch-specific footage be shared like this upfront, especially after the recent Mortal Kombat 11 fiasco.

Saints Row: The Third launches on 10th May for Switch; a fancy physical deluxe pack is already available to pre-order.

Are you thinking of picking this one up? Let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments.

Suda51 Has An Announcement Planned For MomoCon 2019

Suda51

After the release of Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes exclusively on the Switch at the start of this year, it appears Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda is ready to reveal what else he’s been up to.

According to a Destructoid exclusive, Suda will “make another announcement” during his panel “Travis Talks Again With Suda 51” at MomoCon 2019. At last year’s event, he revealed Killer7 for Steam, so this announcement is expected to be something similar – either the reveal of a new game or a revival of a classic.

If you saw the end of Travis Strikes Again, you’ll know the next mainline installment is probably “in development” already. If you missed it, view the game’s conclusion in this video for some added perspective. When asked by Siliconera about the ending of Travis Strikes Again back in March, Suda said how he hoped to have “something cool to announce” around the time of this year’s E3. So, if anything was revealed at MomoCon, this would be a lot earlier than expected.

Suda’s panel at MomoCon will take place later this month on 25th May and will be live streamed on Twitch. MomoCon 2019 is held in Atlanta, Georgia from 23rd May until the 26th May. For more information, visit the official website.

What are you expecting Suda to announce? Did you play Travis Strikes Again? Tell us down in the comments.

Random: Watch How Ryan Reynolds Transforms Himself Into Detective Pikachu

Ryan Renolds

If you’re already tired of hearing about the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie, then why not grab your closest marker pen and start drawing some dots on your face, in an attempt to transform yourself into Detective Pikachu.

In his latest YouTube upload, Ryan Reynolds – the voice of Detective Pikachu – has revealed how he gets ready to play as the electric rodent on a regular basis. All that’s required is a black stencil and an “Oscar-winning” visual effects company to render the final product with multi-million dollar technology. See for yourself below:

Even though he admittedly didn’t know much about Pokémon when he was first approached for the role, it’s evident from all this marketing just how eager Reynolds is to ensure this movie is as successful as possible. If you want to see more Detective Pikachu promotional trailers, be sure to check out the actor’s official YouTube channel for another five clips.

The movie is due out in the US and UK on 10th May. You can also read some early impressions from the Tokyo press screening in our previous post.

Critical Patch For The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse Delayed Until Next Week

The Swords Of Ditto

Right now in Japan, it’s Golden Week. If you’re wondering what this is, it’s a period between the end of April and beginning of May where multiple national holidays take place. This year it runs for 10-days as the new emperor is crowned.

As with any public holiday, the business world typically shuts down. This has created a problem for the developer onebitbeyond as its “critical patch” for The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse has not yet been approved by Nintendo. Here’s the full explanation from the game’s publisher Devolver Digital via Twitter:

Technical note on Mormo’s Curse on Switch – we expected a critical patch to be applied to Switch at launch. Due to Golden Week in Japan, the patch is delayed a week so the game has some issues with player death.

The delay is expected to be “around” a week. In the meantime, you’ll just have to deal with “some issues” relating to in-game character deaths. To view the pending changes, click here. And if you haven’t already, be sure to check out our review.

Switch Version Of Warhammer 40K: Deathwatch Gets Axed

In April last year, a listing for Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch Enhanced Edition on Nintendo Switch was discovered. At the time, Funbox had already released the turn-based strategy title on multiple other platforms.

If you happen to be a fan of 40K and were looking forward to playing this one on the go, unfortunately, it has been axed. JP’s Switchmania broke the news after receiving an email the game had been cancelled.

Not long after this, the UK publisher Funbox Media confirmed it:

“Yes, we’re afraid so. It’s out of our control I’m afraid. We really wanted to release the game, but higher powers made the decision.”

We’ve contacted Funbox ourselves, so keep an eye out for a more official statement soon.
