Spike Chunsoft announces the release date for Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Spike Chunsoft has announced the launch of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair on August 20 in Japan. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is the second installment of the Danganronpa series. The franchise is best described as a murder mystery adventure game, but it can be compared to Agatha Christie’s best-selling novel, Murder on the Orient Express. There are a lot of Japanese detective games on mobile, but few of which compares to the Danganronpa series.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair takes place on Jabberwock island, as part of your School Trip. The once-bustling tourist paradise is now uninhabited, but yet somehow in pristine condition. The students of Hope’s Peak Academy are all having fun until Monokuma returns to begin his diabolical game. Now, trapped on an island with a killer on the loose, it’s up to you to solve the mystery: if you want to escape.

As your classmates drop like flies, you must examine the crime scene for clues, interview suspects, and determining the motive for each despicable murder. If Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair sounds like a game you would enjoy, you can check out the trailer included below for more details.

Famitsu has confirmed that Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair will launch on iOS and Android on August 20. It will list for 1960 yen, which equates to around $18.

Nier Reincarnation is getting a closed beta later this month

Square Enix recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of the cult JRPG Nier’s launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 with an exciting livestream that detailed the series’ future. Not only was a remake of the original announced in the form of Nier Replicant (for PS4, Xbox One, and PC) but a mobile exclusive entry is also in the works.

Nier Reincarnation launches a closed beta across Android and iOS later this month, though it’s only open to people in Japan right now. There are 10,000 spots available for both platforms, and registrations are open until July 26. However, if the closed beta is oversubscribed, who gets to play is decided with a lottery draw. Sounds fair to us!

We don’t know that much about Nier Reincarnation just yet, but we’re able to surmise some details from the most recent trailer. Reincarnation seems to feature a young female protagonist, with a ghost-like companion, and in the trailer we see her wandering through expansive open locations, such as a stone city in the sky. The game also shows some party-based combat, and pretty fancy side-scrolling 2D sections.

Aside from what we see in the trailer, we know Square Enix is producing while Applibot is tasked with development duties. Cydesignation is also working on character design, and we know that Reincarnation takes place in a new Nier location called ‘The Cage’.

Square Enix has launched an official website dedicated to the game in Japan, so you can bookmark that if you’re desperate to learn more. It’s pretty bare bones, but chances are it will receive regular updates as we head towards launch. If you’re the social media type, you can also follow the official Twitter and Facebook pages to receive updates directly.

The deck building card game Marvel Duel is available for pre-registration

The latest game in the Marvel universe is Marvel Duel, and it’s ready for pre-registration now in certain territories. The fast-paced card game features your favourite heroes from the entire saga. Although no exact release date has been confirmed, the pre-registration suggests that the full launch of Marvel Duel is not too far away.

Marvel Duel is a game where you collect superheroes to fight for you against the forces of evil. The aim of the game is to build as strong a deck as possible out of the 150+ characters available. It’s clear that the game is all about collecting and upgrading characters, but there are also equipment, abilities, and trap cards needed to build a supreme deck.

Details on the newest Marvel game are surprisingly sparse. However, judging from the game description and screenshots, fans of traditional CCGs will be familiar with the Hearthstone-looking game board. The description also reveals that a mysterious force has altered the iconic events in Marvel history. This means you can expect to see some familiar settings in the story mode.

Marvel Duel Pre-registration: Where can i pre-register

You can pre-register for Marvel Duel on both the App Store and Google Play. It’s worth mentioning that the pre-registrations are geographically restricted to the following countries.

  • Thailand
  • Indonesia
  • Philippines
  • Malaysia

Although we don’t have an exact date of when to expect the game to head west, you can expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks.

Marvel Duel character list: How many characters are there?

Although it is still too early to provide a complete list of characters, the game page states there will be over 150. While flicking through some new screenshots of Marvel Duel, we discovered that there are 183 cards to collect. Whether this is just characters or items included, it’s fair to say that you will see a lot of familiar faces.

Marvel Duel online: Will I be able to fight my friends?

Marvel games are always keen on uniting players through guilds or alliances. Sometimes these features are added after launch. In Duel, there are some elements of a community. For example, the leaderboards tab and the duel game mode. It would surprise us if Marvel Duel had no in-game friends list or private match capability, but it’s still too early to tell.

Deck building Witcher RPG Thronebreaker suddenly releases on iOS

CD Projekt Red, in a sudden turn of events, has launched Thronebreaker on iOS. No one seems to have known that The Witcher RPG was coming to mobile, but it’s a pleasant surprise nonetheless! You can also download Thronebreaker on the App Store right now, for those of you that can’t wait. Since Gwent: The Witcher Card game launched on mobile not so long ago, we’ve been waiting for Thronebreaker news, as a deck building RPG that uses the same card system – check our Gwent review to find out more!

CD Projekt Red originally developed Thronebreaker as the story mode for Gwent, before deciding to create The Witcher Tales and spin it off into its own game. We’re glad it did, though, as Thronebreaker is both an excellent RPG and deck building game.

For those that don’t know, Thronebreaker follows the story of Queen Meve, a beloved character from the books who knights Geralt, hence his ‘of Rivia’ title. Her story involves traipsing across The Continent, trying to reclaim her kingdom, as, all while, the second Nilfgaardian war rages around her.

In celebration of Thronebreaker coming to mobile, CD Projekt Red are giving away a set of rewards, including the soundtrack, some concept art, and an annotated map of Lyria – one of Meve’s kingdoms. Gwent players can also claim some benefits from jumping into Thronebreaker, such as unique ornaments, and 20 new cards.

We’re excited to see Thronebreaker finally take its rightful place on mobile, as a game that is perfectly built for the platform. Monster Farm 2 is coming to mobile in Japan this fall

Monster Farm 2, or Monster Rancher 2 depending on where you live, is a PlayStation game originally released in Japan in 1999. The developer, Koei Tecmo Games, has confirmed that its been working on a remaster for the Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. We can expect to see the game released sometime in the fall of this year, though it is only coming to Japan at this time.

The best way to describe Monster Farm 2 is a monster fighting game. Gameplay involves breeding and raising the strongest monsters to win tournaments. The more tournaments you win, the more monsters and moves you unlock.

There is no word yet if the classic monster breeding game will make its way to the Western world. However, seeing as the original Monster Farm took the best part of half a year to make its way to the US and EU, we may be in luck soon. The news was released on the official Monster Farm Twitter account earlier today, and its clear fans of the series are excited as they have retweeted the post over 12k times.

Although very little information is available on the Famitsu site, the release does mention that there will be new features added to the game, beyond just a faithful remaster.

Netflix’s Aggretsuko anime is getting a mobile game spin-off

The latest anime to get a mobile game spin-off is Netflix’s Aggretsuko. The game is called Aggretsuko: The Short Timer Strikes Back, and it’s a match-three puzzler that’s available on iOS and Android. There’s not long to wait, either, as the Aggretsuko: The Short Timer Strikes Back release date is July 28, 2020.

The show is about a red panda who faces relatable, everyday struggles while working a typical desk job. Her boss is an insensitive jerk, talentless suck-ups are progressing quicker than she is, and her mother won’t stop nagging her to get a boyfriend. What gives Aggretsuko her quirk, though, is that she lets off steam by freestyling death metal songs into a karaoke mic.

Aggretsuko: The Short Timer Strikes Back has a simple premise. Your company is relocating offices, and it’s up to you to handle the decoration. Of course, those decorations don’t come for free, so you’ll have to complete match-three puzzles to acquire the means you need to complete the task. As far as I can see, there’s no death metal karaoke element here, and, yes, I am gutted about that.

MudRunner Mobile brings the popular off-road driving sim to Android and iOS

Focus Home Interactive has announced that the highly successful off-road driving game, MudRunner, is coming to mobile. MudRunner Mobile takes what made the original game so popular, as you transport deliveries between destinations, using a wide array of vehicles and any means necessary to traverse the treacherous terrain. MudRunner Mobile boasts 16 all-terrain vehicles and 15 open world maps for you to get messy in.

For those that don’t know, the first MudRunner, originally called Spintires: MudRunner, is developed by Saber Interactive and was released back in 2017. Since then the series’ iconic off-roading and realistic physics has found huge popularity with audiences, and even spawned further spin-off games like SnowRunner. We’re excited to see how the game’s all-terrain craziness is going to fare on mobile.

MudRunner Mobile is set to release July 15 on both Android and iOS, and is currently available for pre-order. The original MudRunner also has multiplayer and co-op, but currently there’s no mention of either making the transition to mobile on the app store pages. We’ll be sure to keep you updated though.

Sinoalice is an RPG from the Nier Automata creator that’s out now

While plenty know Yoko Taro as the developer of Nier: Automata, fewer may know that he’s also created a mobile game. It’s called Sinoalice, and it’s now available globally on iOS and Android after an initial release in Japan in 2017. The news was revealed from the game’s official Twitter account, which Taro then retweeted with a message saying “Please enjoy killing each other” – lovely stuff, mate, will do.

Sinoalice was initially intended to be with us sooner, with Nexon lined up to publish the title in 2019, but various delays resulted in the rights being transferred back to Pokelabo. We then got a 100-day pre-launch campaign before the release date came.

The basic rundown of Sinoalice is that you’re in a world that’s ruled by The Library. You’re tasked with hopping into various, famous fairytales and helping titular characters, like Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, revive their author. To do that, you need to slay baddies to obtain power. Gameplay-wise, it’s a real-time gacha RPG with cooperative and competitive modes to incentivise getting your buds in on the action.

You pick a character and level up their grid to become more powerful. You can unlock more classes and characters by completing missions and rolling for random weapons that accompany them.

PUBG Mobile’s next map looks like its smallest yet

PUBG Mobile is getting a new map that has been designed with players on the go in mind. That comes from The Verge, which reports that the new map is called Livik and is as large as two kilometres by two kilometres. Matches on Livik support 40 players a game and are intended to last 15 minutes each.

While PUBG Mobile has primarily been designed to bring the PC experience to mobile phone users, Livik has been crafted to accommodate mobile players. That means the design facilitates quick matches you can play on your daily commute to and from work. “We want more people to enjoy PUBG Mobile in a more flexible way,” producer Rick Li explains to The Verge. “The initiative for this map is bringing more flexibility to those players who have tighter schedules and circumstances to accommodate for.”

While the map is notably smaller than others, Li reassures that there are still plenty of points of interest that help games go quicker. The Nordic-themed map features a volcano, hot spring, and a waterfall. While Li didn’t give much else away, he reckons that the current of the waterfall will mix up PUBG Mobile matches. There’s currently no word on when we’ll be able to play Livik, but apparently it’ll be “soon”.
