This Week At Bungie – 6/13/2019

This week at Bungie, we watched Guardians hunt for Truth.

Season of Opulence is off and running. Guardians are piling into the Emperor’s lost vaults in search of the treasure of their choosing. Earlier this week, you discovered a new boss waiting for you in the depths of the Menagerie. Upon defeating it, you were given a quest to seek out Truth. Not in an X-files way, but to find the Rocket Launcher, Truth—a weapon that seeks out its targets… aggressively. Just look at what some players are seeing in the wild:

Next week, we’ll mix things up once again with a third additional boss to keep things fresh in our new six-player activity. And that’s not all we have planned. We are also welcoming an old friend back to the Tower.

Iron Pursuits

Lord Saladin will return next week for the first Iron Banner of Season of Opulence. With a new Season, you have a fresh set of weapons and armor available to earn. Saladin continues to offer Iron Banner bounties, but will also set you on a quest to earn your gear. In other words, prove your worth, and be outfitted as an Iron Lord.

  • This Season’s Iron Banner armor is now acquired through a quest.
      • Each armor piece will be granted upon completing its associated quest step.
      • Each armor piece will be granted as a powerful reward.
      • After unlocking an armor piece, it may be reacquired with random rolls through Iron Banner Reputation Packages and match rewards.
      • If you are a veteran player who earned Iron Banner ornaments in the past, this Season’s armor is compatible with all Year 1 Iron Banner ornaments.
  • Iron Banner packages have been updated.
      • Iron Banner Armor may now roll with enhanced perks.
      • New weapons have also been added to Iron Banner packages and have a higher chance to drop on the first package you redeem.
  • New Iron Banner shaders, an emblem, and a Sparrow may be earned through objectives that must be completed during Season of Opulence.
  • Iron Banner bounties will continue to grant rewards and Iron Banner Tokens.
      • Iron Banner bounties no longer unlock direct purchase for Iron Banner gear, as it is now acquired directly through the Iron Banner quest.

Iron Banner and Increased Valor

Start: 10 AM PDT on June 18

End: 10 AM PDT on June 25

Here is a preview of the armor and weapons available during Iron Banner events in Season of Opulence.

Valor boosts will also be available next week in Iron Banner and the rest of the Crucible. Saladin will also have some other items available including this new Emblem.

Raid Stats

Thousands of Guardians explored deep within the Leviathan to tackle the challenges of the Crown of Sorrow raid. A fireteam of six completed it first and paved the way for others to follow in their footsteps. We made a graphic showing the number of Guardians who beat the raid in a few key timeframes during the first week.

If you were one of the 45,475 Guardians who bested Gahlran within the first week and are thinking about purchasing the Bungie Rewards raid jacket, you have until 11:59 PM PDT on June 18 to claim your Bungie Reward code and place your order. Dmg04 and I both completed it the night before the deadline and ordered ours.

Congratulations to everyone who has completed it so far. If you’re still Powering up, Gahlran is waiting for you.

Fall 2019 FAQ

Following the series of announcements we made last week, we’d like to follow up with the first batch of frequently asked questions submitted by players.

Forsaken and New Light

Q: Will Destiny 2: New Light be its own separate game/file?

A: No. All Destiny 2 players will be automatically converted to New Light and will maintain all of their prior purchases and entitlements.

Q: What Forsaken and Forsaken Annual Pass content will be included in New Light?

A: Forsaken content available in Destiny 2: New Light includes:

  • Free roam on all destinations
  • Strikes playlists
  • Crucible playlists
  • Gambit and Gambit Prime playlists
  • Select Annual Pass content

Q: What Forsaken and Forsaken Annual Pass content will NOT be included in New Light?

A: Forsaken content available only with purchase includes:

  • The Forsaken campaign
  • Year 2 raids and dungeons
  • Exotic quests

Cross Save

Q: Do players need to repurchase Destiny 2 on each cross save platform separately?

A: No. New Light will be available for free on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation.

  • Cross save will preserve all gear, character, and items across all platforms regardless of entitlements.
  • Expansion ownership (Forsaken, Shadowkeep) is tied to the platform’s store it was purchased on. Players will need to purchase expansions on each platform that they wish to play that expansion content on.

Q: Can players merge different characters, items, or Triumphs from different accounts?

A: Cross save does not feature account, character, or progress merging. Selecting a active account for cross save does not delete or alter the data of any other accounts.

Q: Will Destiny 2 support cross-play matchmaking between different platforms?

A: Each platform will have its own matchmaking pool.

Steam PC

Q: Which Destiny 2 purchases and entitlements transfer over from Battle.net to Steam?

A: The PC migration from Battle.net to Steam will include a one-time transfer of ALL ownership rights that a player already owns (expansions, Silver, account, Seasons, etc.).

Q: Can players pre-order Shadowkeep on Steam right now and migrate their Battle.net account later?

A: Yes. Players may purchase Destiny 2: Shadowkeep from Steam’s product page now, and migrate their account at a later date.

Stadia

Q: Can players pre-order Google Stadia Founder’s Edition right now, and setup cross save for their account at a later date?

A: Yes. Players may purchase Stadia Founder’s Edition from Google’s product page now, and enable cross save on their account at a later date.

Q: Will Stadia feature cross play with Steam or other platforms?

A: Stadia is its own ecosystem, just like current existing platforms. Stadia players will only be able to play with other Stadia players.

For the consolidated list of frequently asked questions as they are added throughout the summer, players should see our Destiny 2: Fall 2019 FAQ help article.

This Week At Bungie – 06/06/2019

This week at Bungie, we revealed the next chapter of Destiny 2.

Today’s been fun. The week started with a Chalice and led to a reveal. Earlier today, we hosted a stream to unveil the next chapter for Destiny 2. If you’ve somehow found yourself reading this article without seeing the news, let’s get you caught up.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVk4PkTG99o?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Everything you need to know can be found here. Shadowkeep is on the horizon, with Eris calling upon Guardians to return to the moon and challenge Nightmares from their past. New Light will introduce Guardians to the world of Destiny. Stadia and Steam will provide new ways for players to join our community, and Cross Save will unite them on the same journey together.

We’ll be diving deeper into all of these projects throughout the summer. Our next stop will be E3, though we won’t have the usual booth and fanfare this year. Instead, we’ll be visiting with people to talk more about what we have planned. Keep your eyes peeled next week, and you might see us in the media that originates at the show.

We’re excited for what’s to come. Until then, we have an entire Season of content to play. A Season… of Opulence!

Chalice to Calus

Season of Opulence kicked this week off with a six-hour race to get ready for a new raid. Teams from around the globe took on the challenge, methodically completing activities for powerful rewards to take on Gahlran and the Crown of Sorrow. With Contest mode active, enemies presented a challenge as players picked apart each encounter and its mechanics.

Employees from all disciplines flooded in to a small theater room to watch the action unfold throughout the race. As we approached four and a half hours, the crown was taken. Clan Be Bold is officially the bread winner of the Crown of Sorrow raid.

We’re passing the mic to fireteam member CarolinaGamer99 for a few words on their World’s First win:

CG: World’s First, a title that means more than most people can imagine to me. I’ve played Destiny since launch and I’ve had the privilege of meeting and making friends for life. Some of these friends are my clanmates, the guys that I’ve been through a lot with. We’ve all been in top 10 raid race finishes before, but we finally did it with Crown of Sorrow. I’d like to say thank you to my amazing teammates who put up with the sound of me munching on various snacks for the entirety of raid day, to the amazing teams at Bungie for creating an incredible experience for everyone who plays, and to the awesome community for cheering us on and believing in us.

WE GOT THE BELT WOOOOOOO!!!

Speaking on behalf of the people who developed Crown of Sorrow, here’s a few words from Design Lead Brian Frank:

Brian: Another world first viewing party is behind us.

Having the theater crammed full of devs eagerly watching together as fireteams make their journey into the unknown to take on the challenge of the Raid is always a blast.

The eruptions of cheering when an encounter is cleared or a boss is brought down are priceless and sincerely a highlight of the work for myself and the team.

With each raid, we are humbled by this community and your ability to overcome challenges. Whether you’re a hardcore raider, a Crucible legend, or you’re just here to enjoy the show, we can’t thank you enough for playing.

Destination: GuardianCon

This July, we’ll launch a team to GuardianCon. Our mission objective will be to celebrate this amazing community. We’ve had a representative from Bungie in attendance every year this gathering has been a thing—except for that first spontaneous flash mob in an unsuspecting pub. We’ve watched this event evolve alongside the community that created it, and we wouldn’t miss it for anything.

We’ll be live on stage with the showrunners. We’ll be on the convention floor with a Bungie Booth bristling with attractions. If we’ll see you there, here’s a preview of what you can expect.

GuardianCon Exclusive Loot

Destiny 2 will be playable on 72 stations. We’ll be hosting a series of private Crucible matches in Season of Opulence. If you have yet to fully grasp the new meta, you’ll be invited to equip new weapons and suit up in a full set of Menagerie or raid gear as a Hunter, Titan, or Warlock.

To raise the stakes, we’ve conceived something special for GuardianCon that we’re calling Risk/Reward Matches. Win or lose, anyone who plays a Reward Match will receive a Drifter coin that can be earned only at the show. Lines permitting, you’ll be able to play as often as you like and collect as many coins as you can carry. Keep them or pay them forward. If you’d like to take a chance at winning a more prestigious reward, you can spend your coin to commit to a Risk Match against another fireteam. If you win that match, you’ll win a Guardian Pin that’s also exclusive to the show. We’re inviting you to leave with either a dog tag or a medal.

World First Award Ceremony

Ever since Aetheon made the first grand entrance in the Vault of Glass, many fireteams have been entered into legend as the first Guardians to complete a Destiny raid. At GuardianCon, they’ll take the stage with us to be celebrated as a champions.

Hefting all of these belts will not be light work, so we found a fan of the game to help us with the heavy lifting.

The Big Show will join us in our booth to meet players. You could have a chance to shake the hand that has broken a controller or two.

Please Note (and don’t panic) if you’ve earned World’s First Status, but can’t be at the show, your names will be spoken and we’ll send your belt to you by other means.

An Audience With Eris Morn

Ever since we plundered the dark below the Moon, the voice of Eris Morn has been a great friend of the Destiny community. She’s contributed her talent to every major release of Destiny content, and we’re about hear more from her this fall.

At GuardianCon, she’ll be an honorary member of the Bungie Away Team.

Morla will be on hand to meet players, sign memorabilia, and silence the screams of any Hive outbreaks that may occur (even though that’s her voice, too).

Gunsmith Inspection

The Destiny community includes many amazing prop makers, but Eric Newgard has been our official outfitter for some time. His works adorn several corners of our studio. We’ve commissioned him to create replicas of iconic weapons to commemorate special occasions. He has even moved among Guardians dressed in the robes of a Warlock. At GuardianCon, he’ll have his own corner of our booth to fabricate a Destiny weapon you’ve never seen.

Gather around his workbench to witness his creative process and assemble for photo ops with an arsenal of Destiny props fit for the heroes of our community.

Bungie Ride Along—Live!

If you’ve watched all of our streams, you’ve been on a Ride Along with our developers. We think of them as behind-the-scenes features delivered in a live-fire exercise. At GuardianCon, we’ll do it live!

Two of the creators of the Whisper of the Worm and Zero Hour missions will take to a stage to share some commentary while designated players move through experiences that have captured the imagination of the Guardians when they least expected it.

Players Meet Developers

We’ll have many people who work at Bungie on hand to meet the people who bring their work to life. They’ll be overseeing the Risk/Reward Matches. You’ll meet them at signing tables. They’ll move among you throughout the celebration, hoping to have a chance to hear your stories.

Players Meet Each Other

Those same signing tables in our booth will also be home to leaders of this community who need space to meet the people who have enjoyed their content over the years. We’re approaching our fifth anniversary as a community, so there are a lot of relationships to strengthen for the future. That’s our goal for GuardianCon. This will be a celebration of the people who make Destiny so much more than a game.

We hope we’ll see you there.

Goldsmiths

Opulence is upon us, but there are a few dents in the Chalice to hammer out. Destiny Player Support is on hand to walk us through the issues found since launch.

This is their report.

Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Known Issues

Following the launch of Season of Opulence, our local Player Support Team has begun tracking the following emergent issues:

      • Crown of Sorrow Joining in Progress: Players who join in progress during the Crown of Sorrow raid’s first encounter will spawn in dead outside of the encounter space. To mitigate this issue, all fireteam members must join up in Orbit prior to launching the Crown of Sorrows raid activity.
      • Pools in the Crown of Sorrow Raid: Players who step outside of a Witch’s Blessing pool right as it is captured can block certain encounters from starting. It’s recommended to stay inside the pool until it’s 100% captured.
      • Menagerie Gauntlet Respawns: We are investigating an issue where players who die during the Gauntlet encounter in the Menagerie may be blocked from respawning until the encounter is completed.
      • Allegiance Quest: We are investigating an issue where players cannot progress past Spider’s Black Market in the Allegiance quest.
      • Ikora or Drifter Beacons: We are investigating an issue where Ikora or Drifter may be beaconing players in the Tower Director map, depending on who players chose during the Allegiance quest.
      • Machine Gun Reserves Perk: We are investigating an issue where the Machine Gun Reserves perk is no longer available on some armor.
      • Sturm “Accomplice” Perk: We are investigating an issue where Sturm‘s “Accomplice” perk is not reloading Energy weapons other than Drang and Drang (Baroque).
      • PC Chat /Invite and /Join Commands: We’re investigating an issue where these commands no longer work if the player isn’t on a player’s friends list.
      • PC Silver Purchases: We’re investigating an issue where PC players cannot purchase Silver through Destiny 2. PC players may still purchase Silver through the Battle.net app or website, and they must relaunch Destiny 2 for the Silver to show up.
      • Eververse Exotic Ghosts and Projections: We are aware of an issue where Ghost projections can’t be previewed on Season 7 Eververse Exotic Ghosts.
      • Revelry Proud Reveler Perk: We’re aware that the Proud Reveler perk shows up on the character screen when players wear Revelry armor.

Pursuit of Clarity

Last week at Bungie, we mentioned that players’ Pursuits inventories would be moving to the Director menu. This screen can be found by opening the Director, and tabbing left past “Maps” to the far left “Pursuits” menu.

We also added some filters to give you a “quests only” and “bounties only” view, so you can separate limited-time pursuits from long-term pursuits. These filters can be found at the right side of the screen, at the top and bottom of the Pursuits list.

A Menagerie of Movies

There’s a new raid, you say? That means there’s hundreds of hours of videos hitting the internet, with players meeting the new boss. Here we go.

Movie of the Week: Multiple what?

Honorable Mention: Winner Winner

Honorable Mention: What a nice hat you have

Winners, expect your fancy new emblems in a few days.

This week has been a rollercoaster of emotions. The future is bright for Destiny 2, and we can’t wait to get into the nitty gritty details of everything the team is working on. Until then, I need to get home and Power up to take on the Crown of Sorrow to earn my very own Bungie Reward raid jacket. We’ve got an entire Season of content to get through, GuardianCon on the way, and the Solstice of Heroes coming later this Summer. Maybe we’ll bump into each other between now and then.
Oh, before we go—we’ve got a few images for you. We’ve updated the header image for the “Am I to cast a Shadow?” lore piece. We wanted to keep the raid boss under wraps until a world first had been claimed. If you missed the lore previews for Season of Opulence, you can find them here and here.

Additionally, we’ve got a 4k Shadowkeep wallpaper and some headers formatted for Twitter use, if you’d like!

The Next Chapter For Destiny 2

The next chapter for Destiny 2 will reunite you with an old ally to confront new nightmares. This fall, on September 17, Guardians will return to our moon – twisted, reshaped, and haunted by our past – to confront new threats and uncover new additions to their customized arsenal.

Check out our new vision for the future.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVk4PkTG99o?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Here’s a rundown of everything we’ve started to talk about, with some links to spaces you’ll want to watch as we roll out new information and updates all throughout the year.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep

New Nightmares have emerged from the shadows of our forgotten Moon. Called forth by haunting visions from her tormented past, Eris Morn has returned and unleashed something that once slumbered beneath the lunar surface – a long dormant power even she cannot control.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjVgKG465F8?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Return to the Moon. Journey deep into a mysterious enemy citadel. Help Eris slay these nightmares before they reach out beyond the Moon to cast humanity back into an age of darkness.

Destiny 2: New Light

One of our goals for this year is to make it simpler for new players to join this amazing community and quickly play alongside our veteran Guardians. Destiny 2: New Light is a brand new entry point for newcomers, that puts the worlds of Destiny 2 – and all of its foundational modes, activities, and rewards – into the hands of every player.

It’s coming September 17, and it’s free to download for all players.

Destiny 2 on PC

With all of these changes afoot, we find ourselves in need of a new home for the Destiny PC community. On September 17, Destiny 2 will become available on Steam. Current PC players will be able to bring all of their progress and purchases with them. Their Guardians, their vaults, and all of their progress will make the move with just a few quick steps. We’ll have more announcements on this topic later this summer, and we are committed to ensuring this change is a as simple and seamless as possible.

Destiny 2 on Stadia

Destiny 2 will be available on Stadia this Fall. Stadia is a new platform from Google for playing video games across virtually any screen. To learn more about Destiny 2 on Stadia, to sign up for updates, or to pre-purchase Stadia and Destiny 2, please visit the official Stadia page at the link below.

Cross Save for Destiny 2

With all these new ways to play Destiny, you might be wondering where you’ll want to invest your time. To make that decision easier, we’re excited to announce that Cross Save will become available this Fall.

With Cross Save, you’ll be able to access the same characters tied to one primary account, enabling you to have a unified experience with the same Guardians on different platforms. Your first steps will become available on Bungie.net later on this summer.

Stay Up To Date

Today, we’ve taken our first step down a path that leads to September. In the months that follow, we’ll have more announcements and reveals to share.

We’re excited for what the future of Destiny holds. We hope you’ll come along with us on the next step of this journey. We’ll have more to say about these developments all summer long.

Thanks for playing and thanks for being part of this incredible community.

Stay tuned! We have more updates for Destiny 2: Shadowkeep coming later this year!

Destiny 2 Update 2.5.0.1

Season of Opulence Begins

Imperial Summons

All players who have completed Forsaken may acquire an Imperial Summons from Benedict 99-40 in the Tower. This quest grants Power Surge gear.

Crown of Sorrow raid begins at 4 PM PDT.

Sandbox

Weapons

Ace of Spades

    • No longer two-taps when paired with One-Eyed Mask’s Vengeance perk if the victim has at least 4 resilience.
    • Memento Mori restored to 6 bullets, but bullets are now lost on stow.

Lord of Wolves

    • Release the Wolves perk can now be activated on special reload instead of on kill.
    • Normal burst damage decreased by 20%.
    • Release the Wolves non-precision damage decreased by 23%; precision damage decreased by 34%.

Sleeper Simulant

    • Reduced bounce damage against bosses, minibosses, and vehicles by 95%.
    • Reduced precision multiplier, but increased base damage by 66%.
        • This change results in precision shots dealing approximately the same damage as before, but you are punished less for landing non-precision shots.

Sturm and Drang

    • Storm and Stress max overcharge rounds increased to 99.
    • “Sturm Overcharge” buff text now displays the number of overcharge rounds.
    • Overcharge damage increased by 100% in PvE.
    • Fixed an issue where a 10% precision damage bonus remained on Sturm when it had used all its overcharge rounds.

Whisper of the Worm

    • White Nail perk now loads the magazine from reserves.
    • Increased ammo reserves to max 18 without armor perks.
    • Fixed an issue where White Nail would fail to activate under certain network conditions.

Luna’s Howl/Not Forgotten

    • RPM changed to 150; damage was adjusted to match other 150 RPM (lightweight) Hand Cannons.
        • These weapons still retain the Precision sub-archetype benefits and firing animation.
    • Magnificent Howl has been reworked.
        • Rapidly landing two precision hits now increases damage and range on your next shot.
        • The damage increase affects only non-precision damage, but the bonus range is applied regardless.
    • Fixed an issue where Magnificent Howl would be slow to activate under certain network conditions.

    • DOT damage increased by 10%.

Submachine Guns

    • Minor adjustment to idle pose for SMG archetype to help set it apart from the rifle archetypes.
    • Updated firing animations to better reflect the shooting experience of an SMG.

Dev Commentary: These changes apply to hipfire only, and do not impact accuracy. The goal of this change was to enhance the feeling of shooting an SMG. We’ve added a random fire pose that will add variation and make the gun feel a little more unstable and lively in your hands. We’ve also added a progressive fire animation that will give your Guardian a feeling of gripping and controlling the more active weapon during sustained fire.

“Am I to cast a Shadow?”

Gahlran knelt before his Emperor in a chamber of gold.

Every surface reflected a resplendent sheen that blinded him.

“What is this place?” he asked.

“Many things,” Calus replied, lounging with his cheek in his palm. “This chamber once held an Arkborn. The only one of her kind to leave the interstellar conduits of her people. It is the place where Valus Nohr earned her shield in trial by combat. Shadows were cast here. History made.”

“Am I to cast a Shadow?”

“Yes. You were bred to be a sorrow-bearer. I seek a Hive commander, but those are not so readily available. So I made you.”

“The Council says the Hive cannot be contained. They worry.”

Calus raised an eyebrow. “Who among them?”

“Councilors Rahl and Verloren.”

The Emperor shook the golden chamber with his guffaw. “Only a few hours old, and already your words have killed two.”

Gahlran pondered what his Emperor could mean.

“I will enjoy you,” Calus said, and keyed a hidden control on the armrest of his divan.

The ceiling shrieked as it opened like an eye. Gahlran craned his neck to stare  as two hovering Councilors descended with a massive, plated helm from the vast iris above.

He could hear a litany of voices shouting down at him from inside the thing as it slowly descended. He thought they sounded like warnings, but there were no discernible words in the speech.

“What is that?” he asked his Emperor.

Calus finished the Royal nectar in his chalice before belching, “Your crown.”

Gahlran thought he could glimpse a faint violet glow on the inside of the helm as it drew nearer.

“Isn’t it beautiful?” Calus asked, as the voices echoing from the helm grew louder.

“No,” Gahlran replied.

He thought he should run. He tried to stand, but he found that he could not, rooted to the floor before the Emperor’s throne by the will of the Councilors.

“I do not like this,” Gahlran said.

“This,” said Calus, as the Councilors crowned Gahlran, “is why you were born.”

The violet interior filled Gahlran’s vision.

“What does it feel like?” asked the Emperor.

“Fear,” Gahlran said.

Calus must have responded, but Gahlran couldn’t hear him over the cacophony of voices.

He suddenly found that he could see.

Through a hundred billion eyes.

And that he could eat.

With teeth enough to consume entire systems.

He felt beautiful.

CABAL “LOYALIST” BAND TRANSMISSION

TYPE: OWL SECTOR INTERCEPT

//CABAL “LOYALIST” BAND TRANSMISSION

//AUDIO UNAVAILABLE//

They call themselves Hunters. Scouts. Survivors scavenging from races older and nobler—so that their people might rebuild what they’ve lost.

They call themselves Titans. Soldiers. Killers—slaying the enemies of humanity so that their City might live one more day.

They call themselves Warlocks. Martial philosophers. Harbingers of Light. Scholars searching for meaning when all is already lost. Their machine god abandoned them long ago.

They don’t understand yet, but they are, all of them, so much more.

It falls to you, my Loyalists, to show them the way. You’ve met them. You know their conviction.

So I unleash you.

Hinder them. Topple them. Teach them pain.

They will only ask for more. And they will grow stronger for it.

When they are ready, we will open the Menagerie to them. Even the strongest Lights have yet to explore that ancient deck.

I want them to see where our journey out of exile began. Ghaul and his conspirators meant for the Menagerie—for the Leviathan itself!—to be our tomb. But Ghaul could not predict what we would find at the black edge.

He could not foresee that we would grow fat from strength.

I call on that strength, now, one last time, before the black edge claims us.

Make no mistake. They will take your lives.

I know you give them gladly.

Your sacrifice shall spark the Shadows of Earth.

This Week At Bungie – 05/30/2019

This week at Bungie, we revealed Season of Opulence.

What began with a notion of secrets has evolved into a treasure hunt. On the journey of our creative process, we arrived at a new experience that is more about discovery than mystery. Calus has issued an imperial summons. Your invitation to plunder the vaults aboard his Leviathan has arrived. Season of Opulence does have secrets for you to discover—Destiny always does.

Here is a preview of what adventures await.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZAnNh_y5Go?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Ready to play? These are the dates you should save!

This is the last weekly update before the new Season starts. Let’s dig in and cover the final details before the games begin.

Choose Wisely

Calus would see you grow fat from strength. During Season of Opulence, he will be granting players the Chalice of Opulence, which serves as players’ gateway to treasure. Players who emerge victorious in the Menagerie will use the Chalice to serve up an offering of runes in exchange for the weapons and gear they choose from the selection of items available. The treasure you find will be limited at first, but over time you’ll be able to upgrade the Chalice to acquire more plentiful and powerful rewards.

Each player will claim their Chalice at the start of the Season through an introductory quest line. From there, it can be shared between different Guardians on the same account.

How does it work?

  • Earn runes to slot on your Chalice through the following:
      • Completing weekly bounties
      • Opening up the weekly chests on the new Nessus Barge
      • Using a consumable that will reward you a rune after a strike, Crucible, or Gambit completion
          • The same consumable will also give other players in your fireteam a chance to earn an additional rune
  • Slot the runes into your Chalice before you enter the Menagerie
  • Play the Menagerie to earn your rewards
  • Completing the Menagerie will award you the gear you chose with your rune selections
      • Each rune affects what you receive and some of its properties, depending on how you slot them

It’s upgradable!

You will have a host of new Triumphs and bounties to complete that will reward a new currency called Imperials. Using these Imperials, you can upgrade your Chalice to acquire a variety of perks with a wide range of effects, from giving you more powerful rewards per week to allowing you to choose the specific gun and Masterwork stat you get from the Menagerie!

You can earn Imperials several ways:

  • Completing weekly bounties
  • Completing certain Triumphs
  • Using special consumables that allows for Imperial acquisition
  • Chalice upgrades that allow you to earn Imperials through playlist activities

You choose which upgrades you unlock first!

  • Unlock additional rune slots to allow more control of an item’s specialization
  • Upgrade it so you earn more runes, or more rune variety
  • Upgrade to allow for additional powerful rewards from the Menagerie

So, for example, if you wanted to earn a random roll of a “Beloved” Sniper Rifle with Handling as the Masterwork trait, you would use a Rune of Jubilation, any red rune, and any purple rune. This rune configuration is your freebie. We’re excited for the community to come together and uncover combinations for each Menagerie reward.

We hope this gives you a better idea of how you’ll earn weapons and armor during Season of Opulence. You will still have to grind to get that perfect roll, but we have given you the option to target the item that you want to optimize and Masterwork.

Pinnacle Weapons and More

Last week, we promised we would share the details on the new pinnacle weapons coming in Season of Opulence as well as some other weapons we are buffing. Here is the Destiny Dev Team to give you one last preview before show time.

Destiny Dev Team: As with Season of the Drifter, we have another three pinnacle weapons to earn in Season of Opulence.

Vanguard—Wendigo-GL3 (Arc Adaptive Grenade Launcher)

  • Wendigo-GL3’s unique perk is “Explosive Light—Picking up an Orb of Light increases the next grenade’s blast radius and damage”
  • Unlike most drum Grenade Launchers, Wendigo-GL3 comes with Blinding Grenades as its magazine option for some added utility to shut down teleporting Taken Captains or that Cabal Gladiator about to get in your face
  • You can carry up to six grenades enhanced by Explosive Light, so be sure to not let any Orbs of Light slip through your fingers when you’ve got this weapon equipped

Crucible—Revoker (Kinetic Aggressive Sniper Rifle)

  • Revoker’s unique perk is “Reversal of Fortune—Missing a shot returns the bullet to the magazine after a short duration”
  • Even the greatest of snipers is not a perfect sharpshooter, and you miss every shot you don’t take
  • Revoker was built with the mindset that you should always go for it, but keep in mind that Reversal of Fortune can only return a single bullet at a time
  • Along with its unique perk, this sniper has a custom low zoom Ambush SLH25 scope and Snapshot for those close quarters battles
  • Acquiring Revoker will not require reaching Fabled rank in Competitive
      • Players will need to earn 3500 total Glory points
      • You do not lose progress when losing a match

Gambit—Hush (Solar Precision Combat Bow)

  • Hush’s unique perk is “Archer’s Gambit—Hipfire precision hits grant a massive draw speed bonus for a short duration”
  • This weapon is for those who would proclaim mastery with the Combat Bow
  • Archer’s Gambit pays out significantly better than Archer’s Tempo, but it’s going to take a more skilled hand to get the most out of it
  • Make those shots count

We also have a few weapons and archetypes getting some tuning to make them more effective. Contrary to a popular meme, we will be buffing Fusion Rifles this season.

Fusion Rifles

  • Non-Exotic Fusion Rifles
      • Damage increased against PvE combatants
          • High-Impact increased by 30%
          • Precision increased by 44%
          • Adaptive increased by 44%
          • Rapid-Fire increased by 47%

While some of the Exotic Fusion Rifles (Telesto, Jötunn, Merciless) did receive minor adjustments due to inheriting from their Legendary counterparts, they’re minor increases, under 5% each. This change was done to move Legendary Fusion Rifles a little closer to the Exotics as the gap between them was quite large, at least in PvE.

Sturm and Drang

  • Storm and Stress max overcharge rounds increased to 99
  • “Sturm Overcharge” buff text now displays the number of overcharge rounds
  • Overcharge damage increased by 100% in PvE

Sturm and Drang were weapons that lost a bit of their place in PvE once Forsaken hit. Not being able to carry around a special weapon hurts your output, so Sturm fell to the wayside. With these changes, along with a new version of Drang coming out in the Season of Opulence, we hope that it has some time to shine again.

Swords

  • Ammo capacity increased to a max of 70
  • Starting ammo increased by 10
  • Black Talon
      • Ground and aerial projectile ammo cost increased from 3 to 4
  • Adaptive Frame
      • Ground uppercut ammo cost increased from 3 to 4
  • Aggressive Frame
      • Now lunge at target with their aerial light attack
      • Light attack consolidated into a single damage event
      • Slam attack consolidated into a single damage event
      • Slam attack ammo cost increased from 3 to 4
  • Lightweight Frame
      • Damage tuning
          • Ground light attack increased by 17%
          • Aerial light attack decreased by 21%
          • Ground dash attack increased by 87%
          • Aerial dash attack increased by 78%
          • No ammo aerial light attack decreased by 49%
          • All other no ammo attacks decreased by 15%
      • Ground dash attack ammo cost increased from 2 to 3

Swords are getting some adjustments. We increased ammo capacity, but also increased the cost of heavy attacks proportionally to encourage mixing in light attacks to get the most out of them instead of just repeatedly using heavy attacks. Also, much like how Drang will show up in a new form for the Season of Opulence, the Lightweight and Aggressive swords are getting the same treatment.

Raiders of the Lost Vault

Last week, we put out an update on the upcoming World First raid race starting on June 4. You can also check out our official World First rules. At the end of race, six players will earn themselves a championship belt. Here is a work-in-progress preview of what it’s going to look like.

Are you an avid raider, but don’t think you can finish first? There are still some other enticing rewards available for those brave enough to tackle the raid soon after launch. If you are able to defeat the final encounter in the first 24 hours, you will receive the “Heavy is the Crown” emblem.

Don’t think you have it in you to finish in the first day? You still have time to commemorate your achievement if you can best the Crown of Sorrow raid before the weekly reset on 6/11. Do that, and you will unlock the ability to purchase this exclusive Bungie Rewards jacket.
Even if you don’t enjoy raiding, we will have some more cool stuff for you on the Bungie store starting on 6/4

Patch Note Preview

Next week, Season of Opulence will go live. Update 2.5.0 is the ship carrying it to your platform of choice. We wanted to take this final moment to give you one last preview of some of the changes you can expect to see in the full patch notes on June 4.

  • Fixed an issue where the Heroic version of Zero Hour would only be available on the first character to complete the activity on each account
  • The Luxurious Toast emote now allows players to sit for as long as they desire
  • Players can no longer win Crucible matches by getting kills after the timer has expired
  • Fixed an issue where the action for applying shaders, ornaments, holograms, or using consumables was getting cancelled and not applying on the first attempt
    • There are still actions that will cancel the apply function, such as hitting the “Preview” button, exiting Inventory early, letting up on the “Apply” button too early, or completely moving the cursor off of the item being applied
  • Players with multiple Radiant Matrix materials in their inventory will now have them removed when “Returning to Ada-1” on the appropriate weapon frame quest step
  • If players have Radiant Matrix materials sitting with the Postmaster, they will need to pull them out before speaking with Ada-1

Hot Pursuit

One more notable upgrade you’ll notice as Season of Opulence begins will be your Pursuits tab.

The Pursuits menu will be moved from your Inventory to the Director. With this update, you’ll be able to switch between Pursuits and the Director overview in one move. With the objectives displayed in the new tab, it should be easier than ever for you to plan your gameplay session and knock out some bounties more efficiently. We also added some filters to give you a “quests only” and “bounties only” view, so you can separate limited-time pursuits from long-term pursuits. We also increased the pursuits inventory size from 50 to 63 to give you more room to hoard some bounties.

At Your Service

The Player Support Team will be on hand during next week’s launch. If things get weird, let them know on the #Help forum.

This is their report.

Destiny 2 Update 2.5.0.1

Next Tuesday, June 4, the 2.5.0.1 update will be released to players in Destiny 2. This update marks the beginning of Season of Opulence, and is required in order to access Destiny 2 once it has been deployed. Listed below is the release timeline for this update.

Tuesday, June 4:

  • 7 AM PDT (1400 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance will begin.
  • 8 AM PDT (1500 UTC): Destiny 2 and Companion features will be taken offline. Destiny 2 Update 2.5.0.1 will begin rolling out across all platforms and regions.*
  • 10 AM PDT (1700 UTC): Maintenance will conclude. Destiny 2 and Companion features will be back online. Season of Opulence will begin.

*Players on console who are taking an abnormally long time to receive this update should try updating manually. Follow the links below for instructions on how to accomplish this:

Players who still do not see this update may wish to try power cycling their console hardware. To do this, players should:

  1. Completely power down the console. Ensure that the device is not in rest mode.
  2. Unplug the console from its power source.
  3. Wait 5 minutes.
  4. Plug back in and try again.

If the update is available, it should begin downloading automatically after power cycling the console hardware. If not, players may wish to try manually checking for this update once more before resorting to another power cycle.

During this same window, we will also be conducting backend maintenance for Destiny 1. For live updates during this deployment window, players should follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed at help.bungie.net.

Crown of Sorrow Raid World First Race

Last week at Bungie, we promised that we’d share more information about how players can make sure they are at the starting line for the Crown of Sorrow raid at 4 PM PDT on Tuesday, June 4. Here’s what you need to know:
  • As called out last week, players must complete the day one quest for Season of Opulence in order to access the Crown of Sorrow raid once it unlocks at 4 PM PDT.
  • In game, this quest will be granted to players as “An Imperial Summons,” and will conclude as “The Invitation.”
  • As players complete this quest, they will be awarded rare gear that will bring them up to 690 Power.

We’d also like to remind all World First contenders that players who join in progress during the Crown of Sorrow raid’s first encounter will spawn in dead outside of the encounter space. To mitigate this issue, all fireteam members must join up in Orbit prior to launching the Crown of Sorrow raid activity.

Living in Infamy

Players should be aware that turning in completed Gambit or Gambit Prime bounties from Season of the Drifter after Season of Opulence begins will result in the player’s next Infamy rank up granting rewards capped at 700 Power.

To mitigate this, players are encouraged to turn in all completed bounties before Season of Opulence begins. For more information, players should see the “Cleaning House” sections of the following blog posts:

Movies

Listen, we got the movies. They are ready to go below. As always, if you win, make sure your player name is in the description of the video so we can get you your emblem. Let’s do this.

Movie of the Week: TR3-VR Perfected

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8xuUDTLp_E?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Honorable Mention: Mirror

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyWyDfbFpNc?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

Only five more sleeps until Season of Opulence. Assuming you have a healthy sleep schedule. We hope you do. It’s really important for your health.

If you’re hungry for new rewards to add to your collection, here’s some concept art to hold you over until next Tuesday.

We mentioned that we’re about to begin a Season that will close out this year of Destiny 2. We’re hoping that has you wondering what we have in store for the next year of Destiny 2, because we have some exciting announcements to make. Once the new Season has begun, the Chalices have been claimed, and a brave fireteam of Guardians write their names into the history of raid champions, you’ll have a new invitation to accept…

We hope to see you there—for all of it. Next week will be all about new beginnings. It wouldn’t be the same without you.

Season of Opulence

On June 4, the treasure hunt begins.

Available to all players of Destiny 2, Season of Opulence will deliver new challenges, loot, and lore. Seasonal ranks for ritual activities will be reset once more, with a fresh set of Pinnacle weapons available to earn. The Iron Banner will be updated with a seasonal Quest to unlock armor. This summer, the Solstice of Heroes event returns with new rewards.

Owners of the Destiny 2 Annual Pass will receive their third extension of Destiny end-game content. Benedict-44 will be waiting in the Tower to help launch the new season. He’ll have your imperial summons, introducing you to treasure hunts, the Menagerie, and more.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZAnNh_y5Go?wmode=transparent&rel=0&fs=1&w=1136&h=641]

This will be the final update to the Destiny 2: Forsaken Gameplay Calendar, showcasing all content introduced through Season of the Forge, Season of the Drifter, and Season of Opulence.

Calus would see you grow stronger through The Chalice of Opulence, which serves as a Guardians gateway to treasure in the Season of Opulence. Players who best the Menagerie, a new six player matchmade activity, will use the Chalice to create an offering of runes in exchange for the specific weapons and armor that they seek. Over time, Guardians will be able to upgrade the Chalice to acquire more plentiful and powerful rewards.

All players who have completed the Forsaken campaign will be welcome to try the Menagerie once, as well as access the Imperial Summons quest. This will grant players Power Surge gear at 690 power to help them jump directly in to the new season of content.

Owners of the Annual Pass will see new Menagerie bosses introduced throughout the first month of June, concluding with the introduction of Heroic difficulty. Matchmaking will be available for normal difficulty, but Heroic will require a pre-made fireteam to take on the greater challenge.

Each week, owners of Forsaken will also be invited to explore the worlds of Destiny 2 in search of treasure. Benedict-44 will have different objectives for you to complete during the hunt, leading to powerful rewards on your journey to 750 power.

As we progress through the season, more content will come to light. Quests will be uncovered, leading to Exotic gear. The Tribute Hall and Moments of Triumph become available to explore and complete. Solstice of Heroes brings a time of celebration, with new rewards and surprises in store.

See you on the hunt.

This Week At Bungie – 05/23/2019

This week at Bungie, we’re setting the stage for Season of Opulence.

The next season begins in less than two weeks. On June 4, we’ll deliver the full and final patch notes.  Before that happens, though, we’d like to share with you some more of the key changes you’ll be seeing in Season of Opulence.

From One Season to the Next

As Season of the Drifter comes to a close, a new source for powerful rewards will emerge. The Drifter will return to his role as your Gambit hype man, and Benedict 99-40 is about to become your source for brand new secrets and rewards.  Let’s take a look at how this new perspective will be making some sweeping changes to your weekly routine…

Power Surge

  • Instead of a set of bounties, a new Power Surge quest will be your jumping off point for Season of Opulence
  • You will need to complete this quest to access the new Raid!
  • Learning from Season of the Forge, this quest must be completed only once per account
  • After one character completes the quest, alternate characters will be rewarded with Surge gear at Power Level 690

Gambit Bounties

  • We didn’t want rewards from The Drifter to be one of the primary sources of power following his run as the central character for Season of the Drifter
  • As a result, Power boosts received from Gambit Bounties will decrease once you’ve achieved 700 Power
  • They will decrease even further once you reached 720 Power

Prime Attunements

  • On day one, prime attunements will be reset to two charges for each player
  • You’ll receive two new prime attunements, even if you were playing right up to the reset
  • We want you to be able to play your favorite character without it impacting your power leveling strategy. We talked about this in a previous TWAB

Crown of Sorrow Raid

  • The Crown of Sorrow raid begins on day one of Season of Opulence at 4 PM PDT
  • Players who want to compete will need to complete the Power Surge Quest
  • We’ve taken additional steps to level the playing field for World First status
  • All player power will be capped at power under each encounter within the raid for the first 24 hours
    • While Contest is active, players will face an enforced challenge throughout the Raid. This means, Power beyond certain levels will provide no advantage for a given fight (e.g., for the first fight all Power above 700 won’t provide an advantage, and for the final fight Power above 720 will not provide an advantage).
    • We are going to deploy the update at 8AM Pacific and the game will be down until 10AM Pacific, so that as many players as possible can get through the download and verification step and be ready for Opulence launch.
  • Our goals for this cap:
    • Progression that challenges raiders to climb to compete for World First
    • A World First race that tests your skill, communication, and strategy
    • A World First raid that is fair

Eververse Updates

With Season of Opulence, we’re making some changes to the Eververse store.

We had two main goals for the changes we’re making to Eververse in Season of Opulence:

Direct Pick:

  • Every new Eververse item in Season of Opulence will be available for direct purchase via Silver or Bright Dust
  • Most of these offers will be time limited, with new items available weekly

Greatest Hits:

  • Season of Opulence’s Bright Engram will contain a collection of community favorite legacy items, with a focus on the “Best of Year One.”
  • If you missed out on Spicy Ramen or the Selfie Emote, Season of Opulence is your chance

Some additional details:

Armor:

  • Full armor sets will be made available as a single, per class bundle, as opposed to being offered only via Bright Engrams
  • Individual Armor pieces can also be purchased for Bright Dust whenever they appear on the storefront
  • These Armor pieces feature fixed perk rolls that are not randomized across duplicates

A Simpler Interface

  • Specific items are now featured on the front page and will be cycled with each weekly reset
  • Most offers will be time-limited to make way for rotating inventory, with some coming back into rotation at a later date
  •  Players can access this new interface by visiting Tess in her usual Tower location

Wrapped Items and Refunds

  • Individual items purchased for Silver will now go to the relevant character inventory location in a “wrapped” state
  • Example: A sparrow purchased directly for Silver will arrive “wrapped” in the Sparrow inventory
  • To use an item, it must be “opened” just like a bundle
  • Once opened, the item functions and can be accessed normally
  • If you wish to refund an item, you will have seven days from purchase to do so
  • Items that have been opened cannot be refunded

All of these changes go live on day one of Season of Opulence. As always, we’ll be monitoring how this all works, and are eager to hear what you do and don’t like about the new storefront.

This is their report.

Crown of Sorrow Raid: Day One Preparations

As soon as Season of Opulence kicks off on June 4, the World first race for the Crown of Sorrow raid will begin. To help illustrate a more definitive starting line, we’ve provided vital information below that Day One contenders should be aware of.

      • Players will not be able to access the Crown of Sorrow raid if they have not yet completed the Season of Opulence Power Surge quest, even after this raid unlocks at 4 PM PDT. This will apply to all members in a Fireteam. We’ll have more information on this experience as we get closer to June 4.
      • Players who join in progress during the Crown of Sorrow raid’s first encounter will spawn in dead outside of the encounter space. To mitigate this issue, all Fireteam members must join up in Orbit prior to launching the Crown of Sorrow raid activity.

Look forward to reading more information as we get closer to the Season of Opulence launch.

Seasonal Weapon Drops

After Season of the Drifter concludes on June 4, the following weapons will be unavailable to unlock at their respective vendors for a limited time. An issue was discovered late in development, and we are working on a fix for a future patch.

Players who have already unlocked these Year 2 variants will continue to receive them as random drops from rank up packages. Players who do not unlock these weapons by the June 4 deadline will be able to acquire the weapons once they are addressed in a future update.

Movie of the Week

We’re always watching. Here is the stuff we saw that made us smile. To the filmmakers go a precious emblem as evidence of their skills.

These are some of the game changers you’ll discover when Season of Opulence begins, but we have even more to show next week.  We’re already working on a preview of new Pinnacle Weapons. We’ve also seen a preview of the new Raid jacket that is totally awesome. With the finer points for the systemic changes on the table, we can next turn our attention to revealing the places you’ll go and the reasons you’ll fight.

Right now, our focus is on Opulence. But after the Season has launched and Raid belts have been awarded, we’ll be looking deeper into the future, and sharing with you more about a new era for Bungie and Destiny 2.

Buckle up and stay tuned.

DeeJ, out.
