Dragon Quest Builders launches for Nintendo Switch on Feb. 9

Adding another great third-party game to its ever-growing library, Dragon Quest Builders from Square Enix will launch for Nintendo Switch on Feb. 9. This charming game offers a new experience in the classic Dragon Quest series, allowing players to reconstruct towns using gathered building materials, fight monsters in real-time battles and meet memorable characters throughout a sprawling RPG. And just like every game on Nintendo Switch, this constructive adventure can be played at home or on the go.

Dragon Quest Builders features a large world to explore, including hidden treasures to discover and epic structures to build. Players can use their creativity to fulfill characters’ requests and build incredible towns using not only fun materials, but also their imaginations. In Terra Incognita – the game’s free-build mode – players can even upload their creations online, or download buildings made by other players.

Playing Dragon Quest Builders on Nintendo Switch will offer players experiences and items exclusive to this version of the game. This includes the ability to gather rare crafting materials and battle enemies while riding the powerful (and adorable) Great Sabrecub, as well as additional crafting options for more robust building customization options.

Pokémon Crystal coming to Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS on Jan. 26

Pokémon Crystal coming to Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS on Jan. 26

When it launched in Japan 17 years ago, Pokémon Crystal introduced many new and exciting elements to the beloved Pokémon franchise. The game, an expanded version of the popular Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver games, was the first in the Pokémon franchise to allow players to choose between a boy or girl playable character, as well as being the first game to introduce animations during Pokémon battles.

Now this groundbreaking game is coming to Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on Jan. 26 for only $9.99.*

On the day it launches, Pokémon Crystal will also be compatible with Pokémon Bank, a paid service that lets players bring select Pokémon from classic core games to the newest core games in the series. With the addition of Pokémon Crystal to this service, it is now possible for players to bring Pokémon from all 29 core games in the series to Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon.

In this version of Pokémon Crystal, players will also have the chance to encounter the mythical Pokémon Celebi in an event after completing the game. In the original Pokémon Crystal game, Celebi could only be obtained by using a special accessory.

As with the Nintendo eShop editions of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, Pokémon Crystal will take advantage of the wireless communication capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, allowing players to enjoy Link Trades and Link Battles with each other. With the Time Capsule feature, players can even trade and battle Pokémon from Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition, which are all also available in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS.

Fans also have the option to play Pokémon Crystal on a New Nintendo 2DS XL system that resembles an iconic Poké Ball. The Poké Ball Edition New Nintendo 2DS XL system can be purchased in stores at a suggested retail price of $159.99. (The Pokémon Crystal game and Poké Ball Edition New Nintendo 2DS XL system are sold separately.)

For more information about Pokémon Crystal, visit https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/pokemon-crystal-version-3ds.

*Pokémon Crystal for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems is only playable in 2D.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Director Takahashi on the first post-launch update

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Director Takahashi on the first post-launch update

Greetings to everyone playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This is Director Takahashi at Monolith Soft. Today I’d like to talk about the main updates that will be seen in the Ver. 1.1.1 update, which will be distributed next week on Friday, December 22.

In addition to some bug fixes, we will address the following points:

  • An easy mode will be added to Tiger! Tiger!
  • When you press the X button, the Skip Travel screen will open the map to your current location. We hope this will make it easier to spot Skip Travel locations and Salvage Points on the map.
  • An additional 1:1 zoom on the mini map will be displayed by pressing the L Stick. This will allow improved visibility of your surroundings and make it easier to check quest locations.

We will further improve the convenience of the mini map as we add more quests and additional elements for second playthroughs next year for all players (not just those who purchased the Expansion Pass!) We appreciate your continued patience.

  • In your second playthrough, you will be able to have “those” Blades join your party! You can also dispatch Blades like Pyra and Dromarch as a Merc Group, and unlock the “LV 4 Special” of a certain Blade.
  • We will distribute the following useful items to those who purchased the Expansion Pass:

– Driver Essentials Set: 10 x Rare Core Crystal, 1 x Legendary Core Crystal, 3 x Overdrive Protocol

– Upgrade Parts for Poppi: 30,000 ether

– Pyra’s Favorite Things: 5 x Jenerossi Tea

– Nia’s Favourite Things: 5 x Ardainian Bear Carving

Monolith Soft will continue to add improvements that will make the world of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 even more enjoyable for a long time. And even though there may be times when we cannot address every need immediately because we are working on these improvements in parallel with the Expansion Pass, we truly appreciate your continued support for Xenoblade Chronicles 2!

For more information about Xenoblade Chronicles 2, visit the official site.

My Nintendo™ is celebrating with a special December calendar and wallpapers featuring imagery from the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game. Redeem your points for these rewards today!

Nintendo Switch sells 10 million worldwide

Nintendo Switch sells 10 million worldwide

Despite launching in March, a month not usually reserved for home console launches, and with the busy holiday shopping season still in full swing, the Nintendo Switch system has already sold 10 million units to consumers around the world, according to Nintendo’s internal sales figures.

Nintendo Switch is a home console that can be played on a TV, and also taken instantly on the go – it lets people play their favorite games anytime, anywhere and with anyone. And since every Nintendo Switch system comes bundled with two Joy-Con controllers, players can easily share the fun of compatible multiplayer games with friends and family* right out of the box.

The robust and diverse library on Nintendo Switch features two of the most acclaimed video games of all time in Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. At The Game Awards last week in Los Angeles, Super Mario Odyssey won the award for Best Family Game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was honored with the awards for Game of the Year, Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Game Direction.

Nintendo Switch is also home to fun multiplayer games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and ARMS that can be played online** or with friends and family in the same room, as well as an ever-growing list of great third-party games like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, FIFA 18, Rocket League, L.A. Noire, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Golf Story and Stardew Valley, Nintendo Switch is truly for any player.

“As you can see in people’s living rooms, on a plane or riding the subway, fans all over the world can enjoy playing Nintendo Switch wherever they go,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “The response from fans has been great, and we’re doing our very best to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season.”

After a record-breaking 2017, Nintendo Switch will continue its momentum in 2018. The system will see the launch of Nintendo-published games like Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and a new game in the beloved Yoshi franchise, in addition to big third-party games like Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus from Bethesda, Mega Man 11 from Capcom, PROJECT OCTOPATH TRAVELER (working title) from Square Enix, Shovel Knight: King of Cards from Yacht Club Games and Runner3 from Choice Provisions.

Nintendo Switch is available at a suggested retail price of $299.99. For more information about Nintendo Switch, visit https://www.nintendo.com/switch/.

Remember that Nintendo Switch features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/switch/.

*Additional games, systems and accessories may be required for multiplayer mode and are sold separately.

**Nintendo Account is required. Online services and features, including online gameplay, are free until the paid Nintendo Switch Online Service launches in 2018.

Bayonetta 3, The Legend of Zelda DLC news revealed during The Game Awards

Bayonetta 3, The Legend of Zelda DLC news revealed during The Game Awards

Nintendo received a number of honors at The Game Awards in Los Angeles, winning the awards for Game of the Year for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Best Family Game for Super Mario Odyssey and Best Handheld Game for Metroid: Samus Returns. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also won the awards for Best Game Direction and Best Action/Adventure Game.

But that’s not the only Nintendo news from the annual awards show. During the event, Nintendo revealed a trailer announcing that the Bayonetta 3 game is currently in development exclusively for the Nintendo Switch system. In addition, the critically acclaimed Bayonetta 2 game, originally a Wii U exclusive, will be launching for Nintendo Switch on Feb. 16. Players who purchase the game in stores at a suggested retail price of $59.99 will receive a free download code for the original Bayonetta game. Consumers looking to purchase the digital versions of the games for Nintendo Switch can do so via Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com.* Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3 are developed by PlatinumGames.

Fans of The Legend of the Zelda: Breath of the Wild game got a new look at the game’s second DLC pack, The Champions’ Ballad, as well as the surprise news that it launched shortly after The Game Awards livestream. In this second of two DLC packs that are part of the game’s Expansion Pass, players are granted access to a large new adventure featuring a never-before-seen dungeon, new insights into the background of the game’s four Champions, as well as a new high-mobility means of transportation. Once players complete the adventure, they will have the opportunity to traverse the enormous world of Hyrule on top of a motorcycle called Master Cycle Zero. The DLC will also grant access to nine new armor items for players to find, as well as the Ancient Saddle and Bridle items. Players who purchase the Expansion Pass for $19.99 receive The Champions’ Ballad DLC Pack 2, as well as The Trial of the Sword DLC Pack 1, which launched earlier this year. For more information about what is included in the Expansion Pass, visit http://www.zelda.com/breath-of-the-wild/expansion-pass.

Players who have yet to experience the game can purchase The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Explorer’s Edition, a limited bundle that includes the critically acclaimed Nintendo Switch game, a 100-page explorer’s guide and a two-sided map at a suggested retail price of $59.99.

In addition, some of the games that were nominated for awards this year are from franchises featured in the Cyber Deals sale currently featured in Nintendo eShop and at Nintendo.com. Fans can save on select games featuring Mario, Link and more fun characters at https://nintendo.com/tga.

The event also featured a live performance of the “Jump Up, Super Star!” song from the Super Mario Odyssey game, with vocals by the game’s original singer.

“We are absolutely humbled that voters chose Nintendo for these awards,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “We plan to continue this strong momentum as we head into 2018.”
