@OrtadragoonX Hey, for me I’m definitely all about the originals as its what I grew up with and love. But I’m sure many grew up with the Win95 port, and they deserve to have their nostaglia catered for too. No reason why both can’t be included and switchable like they’ve done previously with the 2 Sonic CD soundtracks. However, I truly hope they have managed to reach an arrangement, for me nothing beats the originals. But as I said before, if either MJ’s estate says a flat “no” or they ask for such a huge amount of money that would render the whole project unprofitable, thats hardly Sega’s fault.
For example, when trying to license certain songs for low to mid budget movies I have worked on, I’ve been asked for over a million upfront by the owners of certain tracks, plus profit share, (when the standard cost is usually more in the $10k-100k mark) which means on certain lower budget or more niche projects its not worth potentially not turning a profit, and even on higher budget projects, you think twice about if its worth it, or if an alternative would be more sensible. Conversely, other times we’ve been so clear that we NEED a certain track that we’ve offered several million and still been refused permission by the owners simply “because they said so”. Theres plenty of reason that Sega may not be able to secure the rights, and if so, its not their fault, nor is it just because they weren’t willing to pay a reasonable fee. However, again, I truly wish that they have managed it, and I feel hopeful that they have.
I’m sure they’ll have done everything they can to get things right for the fans where possible, everything else has clearly had so much care and love put into it, and so many true fans are working on the projects there’s no way they wouldn’t realise how important it is to people if at all possible. If its not to be, despite their best efforts, within a few days the community will have worked out how to patch the original tracks back into the PC version anyways
