News - Sleeping Dogs Movie From Donnie Yen May Never Happen
A movie based on the video game Sleeping Dogs was in the works for years, but it's apparently no longer moving ahead. Actor Donnie Yen (Ip Man, John Wick, Rogue One) was announced as the lead years ago, and he's now confirmed the momentum there once was to make the movie happen has stalled.
"I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights," Yen told Polygon. "I waited for years. Years. And I really want to do it. I have all these visions in my head, and unfortunately … I don't know, you know how Hollywood goes, right? I spent many, many years on it. It was an unfortunate thing."
Yen didn't provide any other specifics on what happened to the Sleeping Dogs movie, but it's not uncommon for Hollywood films to fall apart or trudge through the so-called development hell and never see the light of day for any number of reasons.

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana Refined Edition is now available for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. Fans of Nihon- Falcom's classic RPG series can pick up a physical copy of The Oath in Felghana for $60 at Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy. Like other physical releases of Ys games, the launch version of The Oath in Felghana is a cool collector's set bundled with extras.
The Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana Refined Edition includes the base game, an acrylic keychain and diorama set, a compilation soundtrack, illustrated microfiber cloth, and a set of postcards. It's priced at $60, so this is a great opportunity for fans to get a cool physical release with collectibles for a great price. Like other Ys physical editions, quantities are limited.
There's an interesting history behind this Ys release, as it was first released under the title of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys in 1989. It was remade as Ys: The Oath in Felghana for PSP in 2005. The remake was ported to PC in 2012, and now it has been remastered for Nintendo Switch and PS5.
Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson says he's hoping to start work on a new game that would serve as a "spiritual successor" to the block-based sandbox game he first created in 2009.
"I basically announced Minecraft 2," Persson tweeted shortly after posting a poll asking for players' opinions on the direction of his current project, which he says is "a traditional roguelike mixed with a tile-based first-person dungeon-crawler."

"But then I gots to thinking that maybe there are people who like my work but might not share my taste in retro nostalgia, and would prefer for me to make a spiritual successor thing to Minecraft, and I mean sure, I'd take that cash," Persson wrote in a post sharing the poll.

News - Sonic The Hedgehog Film Franchise Races Past $1 Billion At The Box Office
Paramount Pictures has announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise has earned more than $1 billion at the global box office. The movie franchise--based on Sega's long-running video game series--kicked off back in February 2020 and has since expanded with two sequels, a TV spin-off series starring Knuckles, and a cameo appearance for the original "Ugly Sonic" in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
The first movie grossed over $319 million worldwide, and its 2022 sequel made over $405 million. The threequel has earned $336 million at the global box office so far (via Box Office Mojo). This isn't the first film series to reach this milestone at the box office, as The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.36 billion) and the Resident Evil movies ($1.2 billion) have also been commercial success stories.
"The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has become an unstoppable cultural force with limitless potential," Paramount Pictures President and CEO Brian Robbins said in a press statement. "As each chapter of Sonic's adventures continues to raise the bar, we're incredibly proud and excited to continue delivering stories and characters that resonate with audiences around the world."
