Arena Of Valor’s Closed Beta Kicks Off This Summer With Rewards Galore

We’ve known portable MOBA Arena of Valor has been Nintendo Switch bound for some time, and that it’s due a beta in the US and the UK, and now we can confirm said closed test will take place shortly for players in both North America and in Europe.

You can follow the link in the embedded tweet below to be taken to a short survey. From there you’ll be able to sign up to the closed beta, with the event itself set to take place sometime in the summer. If you’re not lucky enough to be selected, don’t worry – Nintendo Life will have some hands-on impressions of the game once the beta kicks off.

Will you be signing up for Nintendo Switch’s first proper MOBA? Is Switch a good home for such a genre? Share your thoughts below…

Our Newest Partnership

At Bungie, our purpose is to build worlds that inspire friendship. For over twenty-five years, through Marathon, Myth, Oni, Halo, and Destiny, we’ve created fantastic places where players have gathered to become heroes. Now, our long-term goal is to become an entertainment company that sustains many worlds simultaneously – Destiny and new worlds to come.

Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve entered into a new partnership with NetEase to help us explore new directions. With their industry expertise, they’ll empower us to build new worlds and invite players, new and old, to join us there. They’ll help us support separate teams inside Bungie to bring our newest ambitions to life.

If you’re a player of Destiny, this news won’t impact the hobby you’ve come to know. Destiny is an experience that will grow for many years to come. We’ll continue to work with our partners at Activision to foster this global community and turn new players from all over the world into Guardians. Our commitment to that world is not diminished by this announcement. We have exciting plans for the future of the Destiny franchise, and you’ll learn more about the next steps we’ll take together in the weeks to come.

For now, we’re grateful for the opportunity to welcome NetEase to the family. We have a bold vision to explore with them, but that is all a conversation for another time.

Fedora - Fractal: a GNOME Matrix chat client
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 06-02-2018, 07:29 PM - Forum: Linux, FreeBSD, and Unix types - No Replies

Fractal: a GNOME Matrix chat client

Matrix is a protocol for decentralized instant messaging that has recently grown in popularity. Matrix can be used for a wide range of communication tasks, such as group chats, video chats, sharing files, and bridging to existing IRC rooms. One of the easiest ways to use Matrix is the RiotIM web client or desktop application. However, Fractal is a Matrix desktop application designed for GNOME, so it arguably feels a lot more at home on Fedora Workstation, as seen here:

Fractal is a new project, and currently doesn’t support some Matrix functionality, including video chats. However, the core functionality of a basic text chat / messaging client works well. Additionally, it is clear that a lot of thought has been put into the user interface.  The UI is clean, neat, and easy to navigate.

Support in Matrix for end-to-end encryption is in beta. However, Fractal currently does not support encryption.

Installing Fractal

The easiest way to install Fractal on Fedora is from  Flathub. First, follow the directions in this article to set up Flathub as a third party software source.

Once Flathub is enabled as a third-party source, simply search and install Fractal from the Software app in Fedora Workstation.

Compete in the ACUMOS AI Challenge for a Chance to Win $50,000

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has quickly evolved over the past few years and is changing the way we interact with the world around us. From digital assistants, to AI apps interpreting MRIs and operating self-driving cars, there has been significant momentum and interest in the potential for machine learning technologies applied to AI.

The Acumos AI Challenge, presented by AT&T and Tech Mahindra, is an open source developer competition seeking innovative, ground-breaking AI solutions from students, developers, and data scientists. We are awarding over $100,000 in prizes, including the chance for finalists to travel to San Francisco to pitch their solutions during the finals on September 11, 2018. Finalists will also have the chance to have their solutions featured in the Acumos Marketplace, exposure, and meetings with AT&T and Tech Mahindra executives.

  CNCF to Host Helm
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 06-02-2018, 02:04 AM - Forum: Linux, FreeBSD, and Unix types - No Replies

CNCF to Host Helm

Today, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) voted to accept Helm as an incubation-level hosted project.

No longer a sub-project under Kubernetes, Helm is a package manager that provides an easy way to find, share, and use software built for Kubernetes. Helm removes complexity from configuration and deployment, and enables greater developer productivity.

“Helm addresses a common user need of deploying applications to Kubernetes by making their configurations reusable,” said Brian Grant, TOC representative and project sponsor, Principal Engineer at Google, and Kubernetes SIG Architecture co-chair and Steering Committee member. “Both the Helm and Kubernetes projects have grown substantially. As Kubernetes shifts its focus to its own core in order to better manage this growth, CNCF is a great home for Helm to continue making it easier for developers and operators to streamline Kubernetes deployments.”

According to a recent Kubernetes Application Survey, 64 percent of the application developers, application operators, and ecosystem tool developers who answered the survey reported using Helm to manage apps on Kubernetes.

“As Kubernetes focuses more on stability, CNCF gives Helm a new home to ensure the community’s needs will be met,” said Chris Aniszczyk, COO of Cloud Native Computing Foundation. “Helm has scaled their community with hundreds of contributors to its core and community charts, and we look forward to growing their community even further.”

The project was started by Deis (now part of Microsoft) in 2015 and later evolved into Kubernetes Helm, the merged result of Helm Classic and the Kubernetes Deployment Manager (built by Google). The project has more than 300 contributors, and more than 800 contributors to the community charts, a successful conference based solely on Helm, and a unique culture in comparison to core Kubernetes.

“In building Helm, we set out to build a tool to serve as an onramp to Kubernetes – one that seasoned developers would not only use, but also contribute back to,” said Matt Butcher, co-creator of Helm and Principal Engineer at Microsoft. “By joining CNCF, we’ll benefit from the input and participation of the community and, conversely, Kubernetes will benefit when a community of developers provides a vast repository of ready-made charts for running workloads on Kubernetes.”

Conceptually, Helm is similar to OS-level package managers like AptYum, and Homebrew in that it handles putting things in the right place for the running application – bringing all of the advantages of an OS package manager to a Kubernetes container platform. Helm’s packaging format, called charts, is a collection of files that describe a related set of Kubernetes resources. Charts are created as files laid out in a particular directory tree, which can then be packaged into versioned archives to be deployed.

Main Features:

  • Find and use popular software packaged as Kubernetes charts
  • Share applications as Kubernetes charts
  • Create reproducible builds of your Kubernetes applications
  • Intelligently manage Kubernetes manifest files
  • Manage releases of Helm packages

Notable Milestones:

  • 330 contributors
  • 5,531 GitHub stars
  • 51 releases
  • 4,186 commits
  • 1,935 forks

As a CNCF hosted project – alongside Incubated technologies like Prometheus, OpenTracing, Fluentd, Linkerd, gRPC, CoreDNS, containerd, rkt, CNI, Envoy, Jaeger, Notary, TUF, Vitess, and NATS – Helm is part of a neutral foundation aligned with its technical interests, as well as the larger Linux Foundation, which provide the project with governance, marketing support and community outreach.

Every CNCF project has an associated maturity level: sandbox, incubating, or graduated project. For more information on what qualifies a technology for each level, please visit https://www.cncf.io/projects/graduation-criteria/.

For more on Helm, please visit https://helm.sh/, and read more from co-creator Matt Butcher on the Deis Blog. You can also watch this session from KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Austin on building Helm charts, and read this blog post to see how Helm can be used with other projects.

[Release] Fully Open Source C# Memory Editor
Posted by: xSicKx - 06-01-2018, 09:39 PM - Forum: C#, Visual Basic, & .Net Frameworks - No Replies

Squalr is an open source C# memory editor. The scans can be up to x5 faster than Cheat Engine through use of SSE/AVX instructions for the scan methods. This has been in development for several years now, and is beginning to catch up very quickly to Cheat Engine.

Features include:

  • Standard memory editing capabilities
  • Memory Scanning
  • Pointer Scanning
  • x86/x64 assembler/disassembler
  • Debugging (find what reads/writes)
  • Scripts are written in C#

The back-end is also available through NuGet.

Squalr is performant Memory Editing software that allows users to create and share cheats in their windows desktop games. This includes memory scanning, pointers, x86/x64 assembly injection, and so on.

How does Squalr achieve fast memory scans in .NET? Multi-threading combined with single-core parallelism via SIMD instructions. See this article: SIMD in .NET. To take advantage of these gains, your CPU needs to have support for SSE, AVX, or AVX-512.

Squalr has an API for performing high performance memory scanning:
