Summon the Spirit of Retro Shooters in Prodeus

Summary

  • Prodeus 1.0 arrives today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10/11, and with Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
  • Paint the walls red in a first-person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques and technology.
  • The game features a campaign designed by FPS veterans, co-op and PvP modes, and community-made maps.

Looking for some pure, classic FPS chaos with a healthy injection of modern flair? The officially official version 1.0 of Bounding Box Software’s brutal, bombastic boomer shooter Prodeus launches today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10/11, and with Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass!

Kickstarted in March 2019 and launched in early access in November 2020, Prodeus channels the spirit of first-person shooters of old — think shotguns, blue keycards, deathmatch arenas, and legendary LAN parties — and infuses it with a jolt of modern technology.

Prodeus Screenshot

That means an aesthetic mix of high-quality 3D art and retro rendering techniques, and plenty of over-the-top visual effects. Explosions of lo-fi pixels and hi-tech particle effects fill the screen as you clash against the Prodeans and forces of Chaos, and buckets of blood and gore paint the walls red courtesy of a delightfully demented dismemberment system.

Prodeus features a hand-crafted campaign from industry FPS veterans, along with multiplayer drawing on classic modes. You can take on the campaign solo or in 4-player co-op, and dive into the fray in 16-player Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, CTF, and more.

Prodeus Screenshot

PC players can take things to the next level by making their own maps using the game’s easy-to-use editor — then upload them to be discovered in the community map browser, where both PC and Xbox players can find some new fragging grounds. (There are already some sick levels out there, too, since people have been forging maps since prior to today’s v1.0 release.)

And of course, as with any good Boomer Shooter with abominable monsters from unspeakable places, the game also features an appropriately metal soundtrack — this one from retro FPS composer Andrew Hulshult — that dynamically changes gears to accompany your shotgun blasts and rocket fire.

Prodeus Screenshot

Check out the Prodeus page on the Humble Games website for all the gory details — or just grab your shotgun, crank up the volume, and spatter the steel walls and alien halls in Prodeus today!

PC Game Pass

This game is a work in progress. It may or may not change over time or release as a final product. Purchase only if you are comfortable with the current state of the unfinished game. Prodeus is a first-person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques. It reaches the quality you expect from a AAA experience while adhering to some of the aesthetic technical limits of older hardware. The game features a hand-crafted campaign from industry FPS veterans, a fully-integrated level editor, and a built-in community map browser for instantaneous action with nearly limitless levels to play. Get ready to paint the walls red. This is the Boomer Shooter you’ve been waiting for. Our Art Style:
An aesthetic mix of high-quality 3D art and retro rendering techniques
Over the top visual effects (Explosions! Blood! Gore! Oh My!)
Infinite blood and a satisfyingly gory dismemberment system Gameplay:
Visceral and engaging combat scenarios
Heavy-duty weaponry
Dynamic heavy metal soundtrack from Andrew Hulshult
A multitude of secrets to discover Replayability:
Built-in community map browser
Advanced but easy to use level editor
Tons of difficulty and game modes with online high score support The Team:

Everything You Need to Know About the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta on Xbox

Summary

  • New Maps and Modes featured in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta
  • Pre-Order the Vault Edition and use the Red Team 141 Operators and the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault in the Beta
  • Full details on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II free Beta rewards

The Modern Warfare II Open Beta starts tomorrow on Xbox! Make sure to join the Open Beta to experience some of the new content coming to Modern Warfare II before it launches on October 28.

New Maps and Modes in the Modern Warfare II Open Beta

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta will feature classic modes of the franchise as well as bringing new modes into the mix showcasing Infinity Ward’s design focus and refinement across a variety of MP maps and modes. Here’s some intel on the new maps and modes available during the Open Beta:

Modern Warfare II Open Beta Screenshot

Battle Maps (up to 32 v 32)

Maps created for Ground War are known collectively as Battle Maps, and are based on key learnings from the creation of Call of Duty: Warzone’s Verdansk. Topline intel includes the following:

  • Battle Maps are accessible within the Ground War modes, for up to 32v32 players.
  • During the Open Beta you’ll have access to two Battle Maps: Sariff Bay and Sa’id, where there will be plenty of action on land, sea and air.
  • They are both nested within the world of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0
Modern Warfare II Open Beta Screenshot

Core Maps (6v6)

  • All the Core 6v6 MP maps are custom-made, built specifically for 6v6 game modes.
  • Valderas Museum is set in Spain, with very clean sightlines, easy-to-read thoroughfares, and modern architecture.
  • Compare this to Farm 18, a training facility in an undisclosed location within an old, abandoned cement factory and a “Shoothouse” in the middle of it.
  • Breenbergh Hotel – located in the heart of Amsterdam’s bustling museum district and is broken up into clusters of rooms, which gives each lane some distinction and crossovers for flanking maneuvers.
  • Mercado Las Almas is a small bustling marketplace with fast-paced routes and lanes that blend together that lead to pure, frenetic fun.
  • Expect a robust collection of additional maps for Modern Warfare II at launch and across every subsequent season.
Modern Warfare II Open Beta Screenshot

New Mode: Knockout

Aside from the fan-favorite core modes like Team Deathmatch and Domination, the Open Beta will include brand-new modes coming to Modern Warefare II, starting with Knockout:

  • Two teams fight over a bag of Cash placed in the middle of the map. Running over the bag captures it for the team, with the bag holder’s position appearing on the minimap.
  • Eliminate the opposing force or hold the package to win. No respawns. Teammates can revive each other.
  • Hold the bag for 60 seconds, or eliminate the entire enemy team and win the round.
Modern Warfare II Open Beta Screenshot

New Mode: Prisoner Rescue

What happens when you take Search & Destroy and crank up the stakes? Prisoner Rescue is a new mode made with innovations to the equipment in mind and with “breach and siege” gameplay front and center:

  • Each team has a prisoner to protect, held close to their spawn area.
  • Locate the hostages and get them out alive or defend them at all costs. No respawns. Team revives are enabled.
  • Points are awarded for every prisoner prevented from being extracted (Defenders) or for every prisoner extracted or held at the end of the round (Attackers), or if the defenders are neutralized.
  • Ensure you have enough teammates to defend your prisoner while pushing forward to secure the opposition’s hostage.
Modern Warfare II Open Beta Screenshot

New Mode: Invasion

Crank up the mayhem in a massive Deathmatch set across sprawling Battle Maps:

  • This is war. A massive and chaotic battle with a mix of player and AI fighting alongside each other
  • Earn points by eliminating the AI and human enemies with Loadout items, vehicles, Killstreaks, and UAV or Counter-UAV assistance.
  • Each team starts with a maximum of 32 Operators, bolstered by AI combatants, all infiltrating the map from a headquarters.
  • Neutral Killstreak Care Packages periodically drop throughout the map. Grab one — don’t be on the receiving end of one!
  • The team with the most points at the end of an allotted time wins.
Modern Warfare II Open Beta Screenshot

A New Perspective: Third Person

Offering up a new tactical way to play Multiplayer, so get ready for a change of perspective…

  • In this mode, the camera is set a few feet back over the right shoulder of your Operator. This allows you more perspective on your overall surroundings, in exchange for less depth of field in front of you.
  • You’re able to “shoulder swap” (change the view from your right to left shoulder), assisting you when peeking around corners.
  • Your crosshair is automatically set in the middle of the screen, along with an “X” — sometimes in a separate crosshair — whenever the camera is angled behind an object. This shows where a bullet would hit if you fired the weapon.
  • When you’re aiming down sights (ADS), the perspective switches to a First-Person view, allowing for more accurate firing.
  • Across Multiplayer and specific modes within Modern Warfare II are clearly defined “Third-Person” Playlists.
  • The curent plan for the Open Beta and launch is to keep Third-Person and First-Person Playlists separate, but stay tuned down the road.

Pre-Order the Vault Edition and use the Red Team 141 Operators and the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault in the Beta

Once you pre-order the Vault Edition you’ll gain access to a wide array of pre-order rewards as well as unlocking unique content inside the Vault Edition. During the Beta, The Red Team 141 and the first-ever Weapon Vault the FJX Cinder will be available to all Vault Edition owners.

  • Red Team 141: Four playable Multiplayer Operators — Ghost, Farah, Price, and Soap — each wearing a special masked outfit, which will be available during the Open Beta.
  • FJX Cinder Weapon Vault: A Weapon Vault is the ultimate Weapon Blueprint, a variant of a weapon that keeps its cosmetic properties on all attachments native to its base platform. Prepare to create an extension of your personal playstyle like never before which will also be available during the Open Beta.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Free Beta Rewards

No matter when you’re accessing the Open Beta, get ready to earn the biggest collection of free rewards ever in Call of Duty history! A total of ten different reward items — including two Weapon Blueprints and an Operator Skin — can be earned throughout the Open Beta. These items can be equipped in the Beta as soon as you unlock them, and they are only available to unlock during the Beta itself.

Modern Warfare II Open Beta Screenshot

Whether you’re an experienced SRPG veteran or brand new to the genre, you’ll find a lot to enjoy here. Read on and I’ll tell you six key things you need to know about it.

It tells an epic, sweeping tale of war and honor

If you like games with sweeping, hard-hitting stories, you’ll love The DioField Chronicle. The game is set in a unique world that fuses fantasy, medieval and modern-day influences. This land is not a peaceful one – the entire continent has been ravaged by a devastating war between the Empire and the Alliance. Despite this turmoil, one nation has remained unaffected – the Kingdom of Alletain on DioField Island.

Alletain is rich in Jade – a precious material that’s prized for its use as a base ingredient in sorcery. Something so valuable will inevitably draw attention, and as the conflict between Empire and Alliance escalates, both turn their gaze towards the island. War is coming to DioField… with the Kingdom of Alletain caught in the middle.

Amid the flames and chaos, an elite band of mercenaries emerges that call themselves Blue Fox. This small group of warriors will come to shape the fate of DioField… and the world itself. It’s an expansive tale that’s full of drama and epic moments… but it also remembers that it’s the characters that really matter. Speaking of which…

It’s full of memorable characters

You take control of the Blue Fox mercenaries and follow these fascinating, flawed heroes through their many battles. Allow us to introduce the four heads of the team:

Andrias Rhondarson Image

Andrias Rhondarson

Andrias is calm, cool, and a highly resourceful leader. He has studied strategy and tactics, and is well-versed in the Ancient Sorcery that has been passed down on DioField through the generations.

When he was young, he caught the eye of a nobleman who recognized something special within him. He trained as a soldier, ultimately becoming the chamberlain and bodyguard of Prince Levantia Shaytham.

But when disaster strikes and Levantia is attacked by assassins, Andrias’ life is thrown into turmoil – and a new path presents itself.

Fredret Lester Image

Fredret Lester

Fredret is so big, buff, and burly that you might assume he’d serve as an infantryman. Instead, however, he opts to leverage his superb riding skills and freely gallops around the battlefield on horseback.

He’s known Andrias since childhood, and the two have gone through many life-threatening situations together. As a result, they share a near-unbreakable bond of brotherhood.

Fredret is kind-hearted, honest, and direct – something people admire him for. However, he’s also a little naïve, perhaps due to his upbringing in the countryside. He also tends to become obsessed with the things he’s passionate about.

Iscarion Colchester Image

Iscarion Colchester

Iscarion Colchester is a prodigiously talented archer – something that serves him well as a mercenary.

Of course, he wasn’t always a Blue Fox. The son of a minor noble, Iscarion followed the Colchester tradition of joining the local order of knights. However, due to a personal tragedy, he left and instead became a knight-errant, travelling alone across the kingdom.

He may seem aloof, but he will never ignore those in need. Because of this, he’s greatly respected by those he commands.

Waltaquin Redditch Image

Waltaquin Redditch

Waltaquin became interested in magic at an early age and immersed herself in the wide-ranging study of Ancient Sorcery. Now, she’s a magicker beyond compare.

As the daughter of one of Suffield’s most prominent noblemen, she’s been spoiled her entire life – and has the attitude to match. She can be selfish and arrogant, but her grace and intelligence are undeniable.

You’ll become intimately acquainted with all these characters – and many more – over the course of this epic story. Their struggles become your struggles, and by the end they’ll feel like family.

It introduces the thrilling Real-Time Tactical Battle system

But enough about story – how does the game actually play? The DioField Chronicle introduces a dynamic battle system that fuses command-based tactics with real-time tactics. It’s called the Real-Time Tactical Battle system and it makes for fast-paced, richly strategic battles that require you to be attentive and adaptable to prevail.

Although you can pause the game to give out orders and ponder your strategy, everything plays out in real-time. Unlike many other strategy RPGs, enemies don’t sit around twiddling their thumbs while your troops execute your commands – they’ll move as you do.

The battlefield is also full of ‘gimmicks’ – from turrets, to barricades, to exploding kegs, that both you and the enemy can take advantage of. All this makes for wildly unpredictable combat, where the flow of battle is ever changing.

Like all good tactics games, good planning and a smart strategy is key to success, but you need to be adaptable too. A plan that was working at the start of a fight may lose effectiveness if enemies move out of position, for example, so you need to be ready with a new approach.

It’s an audio-visual treat

All the action takes place in richly detailed environments that are portrayed with attractive diorama-style visuals. Not only is it stunning to look at – particularly in 4K on Xbox Series X|S – it gives the game a unique look that’s entirely its own!

The audio side is equally impressive, thanks to be beautifully orchestrated music by world-renowned composers Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell – best known for their work on “Game of Thrones.” It’s a feast for the eyes and the ears. But don’t take my word for it…

You can try before you buy with a massive demo!

If you want to experience the strategic joys of The DioField Chronicle, then here’s some good news: there’s a free demo! This demo comprises the prologue and the first five missions of the game – that’s around three hours of playtime (though you may get more or less than that depending on factors like the difficultly level, your playstyle etc.). It’s a substantial amount of content – and even better, all your progress carries over to the full game!

The full game is available now!

If you like what you play, the full version of The DioField Chronicle is out now for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One! Purchase the game before December 31, 2022, for an early purchase bonus that includes the Weapon: Rhopasto Knife and Accessory: Recruit’s Bangle (*3)

Tackling Your First Ship in Hardspace: Shipbreaker

Is this your first day at work?

Don’t worry at all, working in zero-gravity salvage isn’t nearly as scary or difficult as people say. Besides, LYNX Corporation has all your genetic data on file in case there are any first day slip-ups. If you happen to blow yourself up tearing down a difficult ship, we’ll bring you right back, no fuss at all. You’ll have to pay for it of course; safety and security always come with a price!

Still, everyone’s first day can be tricky, so we’re going to walk you through salvaging your very first ship in Hardspace: Shipbreaker, the zero-gravity deep space salvage workplace simulator from Blackbird Interactive and Focus Entertainment. We want to keep the death and dismemberment to a minimum as you get used to the thrill of salvaging every last material and piece of equipment on the ships you work on, so please read carefully as we share some of the best advice we can give a Shipbreaker who is just starting out.

Space may be cold and lonely, but profit will always keep us warm!

Get Used to Moving Around in Zero-Gravity

The salvage bay is just like any office, just without air, gravity, or basic safety precautions. Let your guard down or get overwhelmed and panic? You’re as good as gone. It’s been zero days since we’ve had an accident, and that number hasn’t moved in years.

Hardspace Shipbreaker

Why is it so dangerous out here? Without practice, it’s easy to lose control of your own movement only to end up slamming into a solid object, drifting into the furnace, wasting salvage, or even causing your own death. If you want to save on the cost of a new body, practice your movement until space becomes your playground. So strap on your thrusters, take a deep breath of canned air, and let’s get started.

Use Your Scanner to Make a Plan and Your Cutting Tool to Put it into Action

The first ship you’ll find yourself salvaging is a Mackerel, a relatively small transport ship. Think of each ship you’re salvaging as a chicken wing: the goal is to get as much of the tissue off the bone as possible for the most profit. Anything wasted will be counted against you; deep-space salvage is a business in which efficiency and precision are everything.

So when you’re presented with your first ship, you’ll want to use your scanning tool to get a look at the ship’s layout, and get an idea of where the cut points – the structures marked in yellow on the scanner that hold the ship together – are located. For now, you’ll want to search for an open airlock or remove the thruster cap from the rear of the ship.

Hardspace Shipbreaker

Once you’re inside, use the laser cutter in the stinger configuration for maximum safety to melt each cut point, being careful not to overheat the laser cutter. The heat meter for the tool is located on the side of the hardware, and you’ll also hear a warning tone if you’re close to overheating – which would cause your suit to catch on fire, and any flammable objects around you to also burn or explode. More importantly, this can also kill you, and even if it doesn’t, it hurts quite a bit.

LYNX Counts Every Dollar but You Shouldn’t

The more time you can spend salvaging, the more efficient you’ll be, so keeping an eye on your supplies will always pay off, both for LYNX and for you!!

Everything you do in Hardspace: Shipbreaker during a shift in the campaign costs resources. You need to keep your thrusters fueled, your air supply topped off, your suit in good condition, and your consumables loaded up. You can sometimes find supplies inside the ships you’re salvaging, but don’t bet on that; it’s important to pay attention to the levels of each of your resources so you don’t suddenly find yourself fighting for breath because you were too focused on your cutting.

Hardspace Shipbreaker

Luckily, LYNX thought ahead and provided you with a kiosk attached to your living quarters that will dispense all these supplies and more, as long as you can pay for them. This isn’t the time to be tight with your money; dying and having to pay for a new body is a lot more money than investing in a safe and smooth shift. Remember that each shift in the campaign mode lasts for 15 minutes, so it’s important to keep an eye on the clock in order to make the most money possible to repay your debt to LYNX.

Your attention is, in many ways, the most precious resource of them all. Spend it wisely! Follow this advice and you’ll have a great first day with Hardspace: Shipbreaker – now available on Xbox Series X|S and included with Xbox Game Pass.
