Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost Returns for a Limited Time

Festival of the Lost returns today to Destiny 2. Everyone’s invited to join the party, equip a spooky stylish mask, and collect the Legendary weapons only available during the event. There are also new Universal Ornaments, mummy-themed Exotics, a frightening Finisher, and so much more.

Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost

The Haunted Forest is open for those who dare to brave its darkened corridors. And this time, The Spider is getting in on the action. Discover what’s captured his attention in the Haunted Forest and if you’re not too distracted by the treasure chests at the end, maybe you can lend him a hand.

Yes. Treasure chests. Plural.

Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost

In 2020, Festival of the Lost shakes things up a bit with a new type of collectible called a Cipher Decoder. These can be earned throughout the game and used to unlock additional treasure chests at the end of a Haunted Forest run. This means that no matter how you prefer to play Destiny 2, you’ll have more chances to loot that perfect Braytech Werewolf or Horror Story you’ve had your eyes on.

Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost

Both auto rifles are back in all their grotesque glory – now with a wider perk pool to roll from. So, if you missed out last year, there’s never been a better chance to unlock a keeper. Even if you already have one that you’re happy with, there are plenty of new rewards to hunt:

  • Mummified Exotics
The new Exotic Ghost, Sparrow, and ship are all wrapped up – literally – and ready to complete your look.
  • Universal Ornaments
A new line of universal ornaments inspired by some of the most iconic monsters are sure to bring out your inner ghoul.
  • Finishers, Masks, and Triumphs
The One-inch Punch Finisher makes its debut, new masks have been frightfully fashioned, and Festival of the Lost Triumphs are alive! ALIVE!
  • Bungie Rewards
Among all the tricks and treats, there’s also a new collectible pin and Festival emblem that are unlocked by completing the in-game Triumphs.
Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost

Festival of the Lost runs from October 6 to November 3 and will be the final event before Destiny 2’s next major expansion, Beyond Light, launches on November 10.

It’s getting cold outside, Guardians – scary cold.

Ten New Titles, Critical Acclaim, and Exceptional Engagement Mark a Record Year for Xbox Game Studios

I’m inspired by the dedication and extraordinary work across our many talented creative teams within Xbox Game Studios to launch a record number of first party games this year. In addition to a record-breaking year for games we’ve launched, many of these titles have earned strong critical acclaim, as well as impressive engagement from our fans:

  • 15 Xbox Game Studios games launched to-date* (10 of which are brand new titles) and many more to come, a record for Xbox.
  • 1.66 billion hours played by our fans and counting, the most ever year-to-date for Xbox Game Studios titles.
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator, our longest running franchise, returned with an overall Metacritic score of 92, a top-rated PC game this year.
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps was the highest-rated Xbox game we launched this year with an average Metacritic score of 90.
  • Grounded, a new release from Obsidian, quickly exceeded more than 1 million players, while Sea of Thieves has now surpassed 15 million players to date.
  • Wasteland 3 not only was a fan-favorite and previously won the award for best RPG at gamescom, it also had an average Metacritic score of 86.
  • In July at the Xbox Games Showcase we announced 5 new titles from Xbox Game Studios.

We remain in awe of everything our players have done, as we’ve seen some incredible in-game stats as well:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator players have already logged over 26 million flights and more than a billion miles flown, which averages out to 15 times more than the number of real-life flights taken globally each day in 2019, and enough miles to circumnavigate the globe over 40,000 times.
  • Minecraft Dungeons has become a co-op favorite, with 6.9 million multiplayer sessions over the past two months, nearly two-thirds of which (4.4 million) were couch co-op.
  • More than 500 million bugs have been squashed in Grounded, but there are over 10 quintillion insects in the world so we’ve only exterminated 0.000000000005%.

It’s been a tremendous year so far, and it’s going to get even better with the launch of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10. Across four generations and thousands of games playable this holiday, this will be the largest launch lineup in the history of gaming. We’ll be sharing even more details on every game being fully optimized this holiday for the launch of Xbox Series X|S later this month, as well as showing more gameplay from these titles, so stay tuned for more.

Between our growing Xbox Game Studios teams, the massive influx of high-quality content from our new partners at Bethesda, and many more unannounced games in development, the future has never been brighter for Xbox gamers!

*Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition (Releasing on Oct. 15), Battletoads, Bleeding Edge, Gears Tactics, Grounded, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary on PC, Halo 2 Anniversary on PC, Halo 3 on PC, Halo 3: ODST on PC, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Minecraft Dungeons, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, The Bard’s Tale Remastered, Tell Me Why and Wasteland 3

Everything Announced at Minecraft Live!

Yes, yes. It’s happening. All of you proved once and for all that enough commenting, pleading, and campaigning will get you anything. As long as that thing is an update specifically to the cave and mountain systems in a game made of blocks. The Caves & Cliffs Update as it is now officially named comes with improved cave generation and features things like lush caves and dripstone caves. There will also be a brand new archeology system, which adds a very cool sense of history and storytelling element to the game. You’re digging now, but soon you’re going to be excavating

Something has to populate these caverns, so we also threw in crystals, telescopes, bundles, the sculk sensor block and a new hostile mob – the warden! Does Minecraft really need more hostile mobs? Isn’t it enough that the llamas spit at you?

The cliff in Caves & Cliffs means that the Mountain Update that you voted for last year will be included in this one. We got a first look at the mountain goat that will populate these peaks, and I like it even though I think it resembles me a little too much. I’m not saying a certain Dutch pixel artist did this on purpose, but if he did then he got his revenge. You win this round, Boerstra.

EA Sports Goes Retro with NHL 94 Rewind

While hockey video game fans await the worldwide launch of EA Sports NHL 21 on October 15, EA Sports has announced another all-new NHL game. Well, not exactly all new. Players who pre-order NHL 21 from the Microsoft Store for Xbox will also receive a copy of NHL 94 Rewind, a game that uses the controls and graphics of the classic NHL 94, combined with teams and rosters from the present day NHL.

The cover athlete of NHL 21, Alexander Ovechkin, appears on the cover of NHL 94 Rewind too — although in 8-bit (complete with missing tooth pixel). He’s just one of hundreds of players who will be transported back in time with NHL 94 Rewind. Last year’s cover athlete, Auston Matthews, wouldn’t be born until four years after the release of the original NHL 94.

NHL 94 Rewind

NHL 94 is often considered to be one of the most innovative, best crafted, and timeless sports games ever. The title has amassed a devoted following and 27 years later is still being played by old-school hockey video game fans around the world. The announcement of NHL 94 Rewind is the latest chapter in the game’s storied history.

Relive one of the greatest hockey video games of all time with your favorite clubs and stars of today. Pre-order NHL 21 today on the Microsoft Store for Xbox and you’ll be able to play NHL 94 Rewind on October 30!

Yakuza Takes Over Free Play Days

It is hard to believe that it has been less than a year since we announced that Yakuza was finally coming to Xbox. We here at Sega have been absolutely thrilled to see how receptive the Xbox community has been for the releases of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2.

Now, if for some reason you still haven’t jumped into this absolutely wild, genre-defying, over the top, yet heart-wrenchingly-dramatic series… I don’t blame you. It’s a lot to try and take in. Where do you even begin? Do you start with Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Kiwami? What’s a Baka Mitai, why is it all over my Twitter feed, and why does it sound so good?

Yakuza - Free Play Days

That’s why we’re happy to be completely taking over this weekend’s Free Play Days! Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will all be free to play for all Xbox Live Gold members from October 1 to October 4, so it’s the perfect time to jump in and try Yakuza for yourself. It’s also a great way to prepare yourself for the upcoming launch of the newest installment in the series, and a brand new entry point for new players, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which is launching Day 1 with Xbox Series X | S (as well as on Xbox One and Windows 10) on November 10!

Yakuza - Free Play Days

Now, if you have never even heard of Yakuza before, here’s what you need to know:

What’s Yakuza?

Yakuza is, at its core, a series about a bunch of very serious men doing very silly things. There’s no shortage of drama, intrigue, and genuinely emotional moments to keep you hooked. but you can also take a break with some of the most hilarious minigames and substories you’ll ever experience – build tiny cars and race in the Pocket Circuit Stadium, manage a Cabaret, compete in dance fights at the disco, and so many more. Each game also takes place in a painstakingly detailed recreation of a real Japanese city. Consider it the perfect virtual tourism experience.

We can’t not mention the combat though – you can also beat the absolute heck out of a lot of people, all deserving of a good beatdown. If you’ve never seen a Yakuza Heat Action before, you’re in for a treat.

Yakuza - Free Play Days

Say no more, I’m in – where do I start?

It’s my personal recommendation that you start with Yakuza 0, which is a prequel to the series that came out later in its life. However, starting with Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Kiwami, a remake of the very first installment, are both valid choices.

That’s rad, can I finish all three of these games during Free Play Days?

Yakuza - Free Play Days

No.

Well, maybe. If you don’t sleep or take any breaks at all, or rush as fast as possible through each of the games’ critical paths while skipping every cutscene. But that’s not what Yakuza is about. Each game is dense with things to do, and you can easily spend over a hundred hours in a single game without realizing it. Take your time, see the sights, and enjoy everything the games have to offer – we guarantee you’ll have a good time.

And if you don’t, well… dame da ne~

  • Explore the city of Lost Heaven and rise through the ranks of the Salieri Crime Family
  • Play as cabbie-turned-mobster Tommy Angelo in this complete remake of a beloved classic.

Back in 2004, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven debuted on the original Xbox to critical acclaim, becoming an instant cult classic for its authentic, cinematic depiction of organized crime in 1930s America. Now, Mafia: Definitive Edition is available on Xbox One, retelling the iconic story of cabbie-turned-mobster Tommy Angelo in this expanded remake that’s been built from the group up.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

As Tommy, you’ll complete jobs for the powerful Don Salieri, rising through the ranks of the mob, evading the law, and defending your turf from the Morello Crime Family. It’s your chance to play the lead in a traditional mobster story, brought to life by gripping cinematics and thrilling missions.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a faithful remake that improves on every aspect of the original game, from the gorgeous visuals and stellar presentation to the modernized gameplay and expanded story. The city of Lost Heaven and the countryside beyond its streets are even bigger than longtime fans will remember, and you can now cruise around on motorcycles in addition to the many other period-authentic vehicles. On Xbox One X, you’ll be able to take in the stunning sights in 4K, giving you even more appreciation for the visual detail and graphical fidelity of this complete remake.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

Making Mafia: Definitive Edition has been a labor of love for the entire team here at Hangar 13.
