Then later in the month, get ready to fight for your survival on the streets of London during the zombie apocalypse in Zombi.

On Xbox 360, and Xbox One through Backward Compatibility, pair your new year with adventure thanks to Tomb Raider Underworld and then grab a buddy for some excellent co-op action in Army of Two.

All games will be available for a limited time as part of Games with Gold, so get Xbox Live Gold today to get in on the action.

  • Tomb Raider Underworld ($19.99 ERP): Available January 1 to 15 on Xbox One and Xbox 360
  • Army of Two ($14.99 ERP): Available January 16 to 31 on Xbox One and Xbox 360

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III
Van Helsing III will make its debut on Xbox One and will be Xbox One X Enhanced upon release. In this final chapter of the trilogy, you’ll see Borgovia in its darkest state. The civil war may be over, but a strange cult is prophesizing the end of the world. Van Helsing will do battle against even more terrifying beasts with an expanded arsenal for six specialized character classes and a more detailed, diverse leveling system. He’s now prepared to face his archenemy in this world of squabbling factions and criminals, but he won’t be alone — Lady Katarina, his ghost companion, is still with him and her story is set to be revealed as well.

Zombi
How long do you think you can survive in the streets of London, surrounded by the infected among the roads and underground canals? If you happen to fall victim to these mindless enemies, you’ll lose all your possessions. Start again as a different survivor and you can fight your way back to recover your stash. Plan well and you may make it out alive.

Tomb Raider Underworld
Dive, climb, fight, and jump your way back into the world of Lara Croft as she travels around the world to uncover the mystery surrounding Thor’s Hammer. You’ll need all of your new combat options and gear to help prevent a forgotten power being unleashed that could destroy civilization.

Army of Two
Combat, camaraderie, and cash. Bring your best buddy (or play with the AI) in this innovative co-op third-person shooter centered around the world of private military enterprise. Earn and spend your money to improve your weapons and increase your lethality as your jobs will take you around the world, from Afghanistan to South Korea, where your team will confront a conspiracy that threatens the entire world.

Life is Strange Before the Storm Season Finale Available Now

The season finale of Before the Storm is out now on Xbox One! In this third episode, the proverbial ravens come home to roost as the consequences of all your choices so far begin to come to a head. Chloe continues to struggle to deal with the difficult changes in her own life, while still needing to support her friend as Rachel’s world continues to be rocked and shaken. It is during this time that Chloe will need to find the strength to make some of the toughest decisions of her life so far…

Life is Strange: Before the Storm Screenshot

Working in such a beloved universe has been difficult but incredibly rewarding for us on a personal level. We needed to approach this story with the utmost care and respect, both to the established narrative of Life is Strange as well as the topics we deal with. That being said, the fan support we received over the past few months has been amazing. We have striven ever harder to deliver an impactful story that even the most hardcore fan wouldn’t be able to anticipate while also setting events and characters onto paths that will lead them to where they start the first season. We hope that you’ll agree that we’ve added a little something to the universe of Arcadia Bay and its inhabitants while still leaving you enough space to imagine what could happen in the years between the games.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm Screenshot

You’ll also be happy to hear that the entire season has also been Xbox One X Enhanced! If you’re on Xbox One X, Before the Storm supports native 4k at 30fps or you can enjoy the game at 60fps if you’re playing at 1080p.

This third episode marks the end of Chloe and Rachel’s tale as far as we’ve told it in Before the Storm and we hope you’ll enjoy playing the story as much as we did crafting it! See you next year when we release our bonus episode Farewell!

Xbox Game Pass: NBA Playgrounds, Injustice, Devil May Cry 4 and $1 Game Pass for Limited Time

Hello, fellow gamers! Welcome to your January Xbox Game Pass update.

With the New Year just around the corner, we’re excited to share the latest catalog additions coming to Xbox Game Pass starting on January 1.

At Xbox Game Pass, more is better, and to that note, we’re kicking off 2018 by adding 10 titles to the catalog! In addition to the over 100 great games already included in your Xbox Game Pass membership, you can look forward to playing NBA Playgrounds, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Devil May Cry 4 SE, Xbox Original Fuzion Frenzy, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, Deadlight: Director’s Cut, Zoo Tycoon, WRC 5: World Rally Championships, Bayonetta, and Tecmo Bowl Throwback are all available January 1.

In addition to the great catalog additions coming January 1, from December 21 to January 4, new members can take advantage of a special, limited-time introductory offer and join Xbox Game Pass for $1! That’s unlimited access to over 100 great games on Xbox One for just $1.

December is also about the Season of Giving. This holiday the Xbox team has partnered with GameChangers, a non-profit who helps to positively impact the lives of children facing threatening illnesses. For every Xbox Game Pass membership purchased between December 21 and January 4, Xbox will donate $10 to hospitals around the world. Find out more here. With the holidays upon us, there has never been a better time to jump into Xbox Game Pass.

Let’s learn more about the new games coming to Xbox Game Pass in January:

NBA Playgrounds
Toss it up and throw it down! NBA Playgrounds is joining Xbox Game Pass this January and we could not be more excited to jump into the fast-paced, high-flying action. Saber Interactive has created an incredibly fun and addictive arcade experience with Playgrounds, which includes all 30 NBA franchises (and the Supersonics!) and an incredibly deep (and dare we say nostalgic) stable of over 300 current and former NBA players.

Complete challenges as you conquer tournament mode to earn new courts and card packs. Test your skills head-to-head in exhibition or online mode and grind out upgrades for your player cards. Or take a moment to polish your shooting stroke in the 3-point contest. With a ton of modes and content out of the gate, and the big Hot n’ Frosty DLC on sale now in the Microsoft Store — including new NBA players, like Lonzo Ball and Dennis Smith Jr., and secondary team options for a wide range of NBA players — there just might be more fun here than you can shake a stick at.

Injustice: Gods Among Us
Superhero fans rejoice! January delivers one of the most engaging fighting games of the 360 generation in Warner Bros.’ Injustice: Gods Among Us. Experience a complex saga in story mode, or choose from one of 24 legendary DC characters, including Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman and defeat all opponents either solo, online, or through local play for some old school, couch competition. With a stacked roster, a deep stable of moves and specials, and the same familiar fighting mechanics as NetherRealm’s other smash fighting franchise, Mortal Kombat, Injustice can’t help but impress. And, if you have a great time playing Injustice in Xbox Game Pass, we think you are going love Injustice 2, available today in the Microsoft Store!

Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition
January also sees the addition of Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, the final installment in Capcom’s exciting hack-n-slash franchise — this is most decidedly not a button masher. If you’ve played any of the previous Devil May Cry games, then you know DmC requires a challenging mix of strategic defense and powerful attacks. Combat grand enemies, solve puzzles, and collect items as you seek to topple the Order of the Sword. If you’ve played Devil May Cry HD in Xbox Game Pass, get ready for even more excitement in Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition.

Fuzion Frenzy
Break out your party pants because Fuzion Frenzy, an Xbox Original and one of the greatest party games ever to grace the platform, is coming to Xbox Game Pass in January. Released on Xbox One in October through the Backward Compatibility program, Fuzion Frenzy delivers four-player action across more than 40 different mini-games. Choose from one of six characters and jump into Mini-Game Frenzy mode or take on Tournament mode and compete for the right to conquer each zone and reign supreme over your friends as the Fuzion Frenzy champion. Fuzion Frenzy may not be one of the newest games you’ll find in Xbox Game Pass, but we think you’ll find it to be one of the most fun. Enjoy!

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
In November, we were thrilled to bring Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to Xbox Game Pass. So many of our members have jumped in to play MGS V for the first time, and many others took the opportunity to revisit the incredible experience of that game. Now, we’re giving members a chance to learn more about what led to The Phantom Pain’s storyline with the addition of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Set in 1975, just after the conclusion of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, you resume the role of Snake and are tasked with rescuing two key hostages from Camp Omega. With seven intense missions to play through, Ground Zeroes is a relatively short campaign, but one that is long on action and suspense.

Deadlight: Director’s Cut
Seattle, 1986. You are Randall Wayne, zombie apocalypse survivor and a man on a mission to find his family. This is the gritty plot behind Deadlight: Director’s Cut, Tequila Works’ incredibly engaging cinematic survival platformer. Zombies are known as Shadows in Deadlight, and it’s up to you to guide Randall through the infested streets of Seattle. The Shadows can be defeated, but combat comes with a great risk of death in Deadlight, so be cautious in deciding when you taunt them into battle. Collect hidden items as you move through the story and learn more about Randall, his family, and the tragedy that has befallen this apocalyptic purgatory.

Zoo Tycoon Ultimate Animal Collection
Do you ever get the urge to stroll through a beautiful zoo, taking in stunning creatures hailing from all over the globe? If so, you’re in luck, because the recently re-released Zoo Tycoon Ultimate Animal Collection is about to land in Xbox Game Pass. Fully remastered in 4K with HDR support, Zoo Tycoon has added a host of new animals from Australia and South America. Rooted in the same spirit as the original Zoo Tycoon from 2001, there’s never been a better time to enjoy the rich visuals and variety of activities Zoo Tycoon Ultimate Animal Collection has to offer.

WRC 5: World Rally Championship
Racing fans, we’ve got something great coming to Xbox Game Pass for you this month as well! WRC 5: World Rally Championship, a thrilling rally racing game featuring over 50 officially licensed teams and drivers, also comes to Xbox Game Pass this January. With stages from 13 different countries, WRC 5 is a deep experience that offers a ton of challenge while remaining very accessible and fun for the more casual rally racers among us. Jump in the driver’s seat and kick up some mud as you begin your own rally racing dynasty!

Bayonetta
If you’re a fan of Devil May Cry or other hack-n-slash games, January is twice as nice because Sega’s classic hit Bayonetta is joining the Xbox Game Pass catalog as well! Take on the role of Bayonetta, a shapeshifting witch with dual sidearms and hair that carries the ability to eat angels. Yes, angels. Bayonetta has awoken with no memory, but she sure can fight. Combat in Bayonetta is top notch, tasking you with using a combination of kicks, punches, and weapon strikes to take down foes large and small (and there are some very large enemies in this adventure). Put together the perfect combo and watch it unfold on your enemy’s face. Use your Xbox Game Pass membership to fight your way through all 16 chapters of this incredible saga in 2018!

Tecmo Bowl Throwback
Finally, we are pumped to add Tecmo Bowl Throwback to Xbox Game Pass in January. Throwback stays true to its roots, with the same exciting, top-down arcade experience as Tecmo Super Bowl, arguably the greatest arcade football game of all time. Throwback rosters are fully customizable so you’re just a little elbow grease away from building out your favorite pro, college, or dream football team. With over 100 great games, for just $9.99 a month, plus new games added every month, Xbox Game Pass is your ticket to endless play. Thanks for reading January’s Xbox Game Pass update, and don’t forget, you can start your Xbox Game Pass membership for just $1 between December 21 – January 4.

For all the latest Xbox news, keep it locked to Xbox Wire. Until next month, game on!

The Xbox Community Checks in with the Original PlayerUnknown

Last month, in the lead up to the Xbox Game Preview launch of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) on Xbox One, we paid a visit to the game’s Creative Director, PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene at the PUBG Corp. studios in Seoul, South Korea for a quick chat powered by you – the Xbox Community – to find out more about the world’s most played and streamed multiplayer game.

While gamers worldwide have been all been looting and shooting to win that elusive chicken dinner on PC, the PUBG development team was hard at work putting the finishing touches on the game for its December 12 console release. Armed with questions from the Xbox Communities in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, we asked Brendan about battle royale gameplay, chicken dinner odds, and his excitement in bringing a whole new community of console gamers to PUBG.

Land, loot, and survive with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, available now on Xbox One via Xbox Game Preview. See you on the island!

An Introduction to Vermintide 2

When making a sequel, you will eventually have to answer the question of how much to add and what to keep from the first game. Some improvements were easy to decide upon. More content being the most obvious one. The Warhammer world is immense and multifaceted and we have still only scratched the surface of all the places and creatures you may encounter in it. Other improvements we knew we wanted were better bot and enemy AI, better network code, offline mode, volumetric rendering and new weapons, to just name a few.

Vermintide 2 Xbox Screenshot

But we also knew that we had to keep some things from the first game. We chose to stick with the characters from the first game, as we felt they really connected with our audience. The story of our dysfunctional band of heroes had not been fully told. This bickering bunch of misfits simply had to stay for the sequel. For Vermintide 2, however, we gave you as a player more options for them as you are now able to choose career path and use passive and active abilities, unique for every character.

But some decisions were trickier – how much should we meddle with the controls? Or the core combat? The UI? Many of you are passionate players who have spent hundreds or even thousands of hours in this game – would you appreciate the changes? That has been a recurring question during our dev meetings and not one that is easily answered. That is why we need your feedback so we’re inviting you to sign up for the Vermintide 2 beta and make your voice heard.

Vermintide 2 Xbox Screenshot

Warhammer has a very dark, gritty and visceral lore. It is a game world which shines when you have enough hardware power to do the visuals and audio justice. The Xbox One X version has allowed us to set the bar for the visual content even higher, something you will notice when you explore the burning streets of Ussingen, readying yourself for the incoming charge of a Chaos Spawn. You can see some of the improvements through our recently released patch for Vermintide, making the game Xbox One X Enhanced with 4K textures, better AA, improved frame rate and much more.

Thanks for playing and caring!

Killing Floor 2: Krampus Christmas Seasonal Update Arrives on Xbox

Hi, I’m the new game director at Tripwire Interactive on Killing Floor 2. I’ve worked closely on this project from the very beginning as the creative director, so I’m excited to be heading up Killing Floor 2 content updates for the foreseeable future. Enough about me though — let’s talk about this amazing update arriving just in time for the holidays on the Xbox One family of devices!

Killing Floor has always been known for its seasonal events which started years ago with the original Twisted Christmas update on PC back in 2010. Now with Killing Floor 2, we’re looking to take our annual Xmas-themed event to the next level with the release of the Krampus Christmas Seasonal Event!

Just like in year’s past we’ve added all-new holiday-themed Zeds complete with their own unique looks and new voices. You’ll also face off with a huge, nasty boss: Krampus! Please save Xmas and rid us of this terrible villain before he gives all the boys and girls coal… along with beating with his stick!

What would a Killing Floor 2 holiday be without a new weapon under the tree? For this update we’re excited to be adding the UMP submachine gun to the game for the SWAT perk. We also have a brand-new holiday map complete with its own demented Xmas soundtrack.

In the map you must infiltrate Krampus’ Lair and take him out once and for all. In case you weren’t aware, Krampus kidnapped all of Santa’s workers and changed them into the monstrosities that have only one mission: kill you and ruin Xmas! The map also has new objectives that, when completed, give you vault money and your very own pajamas!

We’ve also added 50 new limited time seasonal items that can only be obtained during this event as well as 100 new vault items to deck out your characters. We’ve had a blast putting this special holiday event together for Killing Floor 2 and hope that you enjoy it. The Krampus Christmas Seasonal Event is going on now and runs through to January 9. So, let’s get in the festive spirit and take back Xmas from Krampus!
