E3 2018: Microsoft and McLaren Continue Storied Partnership with Forza Horizon 4

During the Xbox E3 2018 briefing, we announced that the 2019 McLaren Senna will grace the cover of Forza Horizon 4, the latest entry in the award-winning Forza Horizon series, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to take this next step in our long-standing partnership with McLaren Automotive.

In celebration, the 2019 McLaren Senna will make its North American debut in our Mixer booth, located in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center. The supercar reveal will take place during a Mixer livestream on Tuesday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. PDT and displayed for E3 attendees throughout the week. The McLaren Senna – named for legendary Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna – sets a new benchmark of excellence in the automotive industry. It is the fastest supercar in the automaker’s impressive history, providing an unparalleled connection between driver and car with excellence both on track and on road.

We are beyond thrilled to extend our existing, long-term partnership with McLaren, with whom we have a rich history having featured their cars throughout the Forza catalog. We first collaborated in 2013, when the McLaren P1™ made its North American debut at the Xbox E3 Briefing and later came to life in ForzaFilmspeed. We look forward to creating more groundbreaking moments together within the Forza franchise and in real-world experiences and continue to share our common passion for delivering automotive entertainment to both gaming and driving enthusiasts alike.

Jolyon Nash,  McLaren Automotive’ s  Global Sales and Marketing Director said; “Video games are now so realistic and our relationship with the Forza franchise has been a powerful tool both to grow brand awareness and show what makes McLaren cars so special.”

Our partnership with McLaren is the latest example of how the Forza franchise has worked with iconic automotive brands to create breakthrough moments that impact how automakers reveal their cars to the world – and alongside Forza are redefining the future of automotive entertainment. For example, at E3 2017, the Xbox Briefing stage played host to the worldwide debut of the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, signaling the beginning of a groundbreaking partnership with Porsche for Forza Motorsport 7. Partnerships like with McLaren and Porsche have enabled the Forza franchise and automakers to bring more experiences to players in spaces that are more approachable and familiar to gamers and automotive enthusiasts that may not have the opportunity to attend traditional car reveal venues.

Back with Forza Motorsport 3 we worked with Audi A.G. to unveil the first-generation Audi R8 at E3 in 2009. This started us on the path we are continuing to evolve and push today. It was the first time a significant automotive manufacturer entrusted a racing game franchise to be a significant part of a car’s launch plans and signaled to the gaming and automotive industries that automotive partnerships are not only possible but successful.

And over this past decade, E3 and the Forza franchise have hosted nine different car reveals for seven different manufacturers. From hosting the Ferrari 458 in the Xbox booth at E3 2011 for Forza Motorsport 4, to the North American unveil of Forza Horizon 3 cover car Lamborghini Centenario at E3 2016, and to our collaboration with Ford Motor Company to unveil Forza Motorsport 6 and the 2015 Ford GT cover car, we’re actively looking to merge strong moments in the automotive and gaming industries  so that together we can bring premium, exclusive driving experiences to our players.

Above all, we are committed to providing Forza players with the best experiences possible, and this is only possible through our world-class automotive partnerships. We are looking forward to working with McLaren and others to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible and redefine the future of automotive entertainment. We couldn’t do all of this great work without our partners and we thank they for their continued support, partnership and joining us on this journey to turn car-lovers into gamers and gamers into car-lovers.

Forza Horizon 4 launches on October 2, 2018 on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass, and is now available for pre-order in the Microsoft Store. For those in attendance at E3 2018, Forza Horizon 4 will be playable at the Mixer booth and at the Microsoft Theater. Stay tuned to Xbox Wire and ForzaMotorsport.net for future updates.

E3 2018: Anthem, Battlefield, Star Wars, and More at EA Play

EA officially kicked off their annual EA Play 2018 FanFest Saturday with a slew of announcements, reveals, and deep dives into a handful of highly-anticipated, upcoming games.

Battlefield V kicked off the festivities. The big news? Battlefield V will have a confirmed battle royale mode coming post-launch. A short trailer showcasing Battlefield’s classic destructibility gave us a glimpse at the Grand Operations multiplayer, though a deeper look at the War Stories single-player content is being held back for Microsoft’s E3 2018 Media Briefing. The game comes to Xbox One on October 19.

The next entry in the best-selling soccer franchise, FIFA 19, will feature UEFA Champions League integration. The game launches on September 28, but in the meantime, current FIFA 18 players can download a free World Cup update, taking their country of choice through the biggest tournament on the planet. A free trial of the full game is available now for a limited time on Xbox One.

Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella gave us the show’s big first reveal, confirming that the developer is working on a new Star Wars game called Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Set between “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope,” it’s a dark tale about the Jedi being hunted after the order was disbanded at the end of “Revenge of the Sith.” It’s due out Holiday 2019.

Star Wars fans won’t have to wait that long to scratch their itch – new content is coming to Star Wars: Battlefront II, with a new squad system, a new Starfighter mode, a new large sandbox mode, and fresh content from the Clone Wars — that means playable heroes like General Grievous, General Obi-Wan Kenobi, Count Dooku, and Anakin Skywalker. It’s all coming later this year.

On a slightly smaller scale, Coldwood’s Martin Sahlin returned to the EA stage to reveal Unravel Two. Yarny returns to action, this time joined by a friend. The upcoming puzzle-platformer features solo or drop-in, drop-out co-op play, demonstrated live during a tense two-player escape from an aggressive grouse. And you don’t have to wait to play – Unravel Two is available right now for the Xbox One.

A second EA Originals title, Sea of Solitude from independent developer Jo-Mei Studios, was announced next. A touching journey about the nature of depression, it stars a lonely girl whose inner fears and emotions transform her into a monster. It’s your task to help her find solace in a beautiful, waterlogged world.

Trailers for NBA Live 19 and Madden 19 offered a glimpse into the next entries in the EA Sports vaunted franchises, but the biggest reveal was for the game everyone came to see: Anthem.

Video forE3 2018: Anthem, Battlefield, Star Wars, and More at EA Play

Developers from BioWare took viewers on a deep dive through their anticipated, action-packed shooter. Players will take on the role of a freelancer, tasked to explore a dangerous, storm-ravaged environment using a powerful, rocket-powered exosuit called a Javelin. Four types of Javelins will give players different ways to play – the Colossus is a big, heavy suit suitable for tanking, while the Ranger is a more nimble, generalized suit built for longer-range battles, for example.

A dynamic, shared world can be enjoyed with multiple players, but when returning to home base, the game shifts into a single-player experience, letting players chat with other characters, develop relationships, and gear up for their next mission. BioWare also confirmed while cosmetic items will be available for purchase, Anthem will not feature loot boxes. A gameplay trailer brought it all together, highlighting Anthem’s high-flying action, Javelin abilities, enormous enemies, and expansive, colorful world. We also got a release date: February 22, 2019.

We’ll have much more to share on Anthem and several other games throughout the week as Xbox Wire is on-site here at E3 2018. For all the latest news on these and other upcoming games, keep it dialed to Xbox Wire and don’t forget to tune in Sunday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. PDT for the annual Xbox E3 2018 Briefing.

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift – Shaping the Upcoming Free Expansion

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift is nearly upon us!  Get ready to set up shop, gain new rewards, and explore our new Expeditions in one of our biggest expansions ever. Protean Shift features an airship-load of new features and systems for players to engage with.  Because this is such a substantial change, we wanted to make sure we had community input on the new direction. We shaped this latest expansion with our community utilizing user research, live playtests, and giving earlier access to testing new features.

Community and creativity are key to the Dungeon Defenders experience. Defenders are constantly experimenting within the game, tailoring their heroes and defenses to their liking, and interacting with others. Protean Shift deepens and extends the core experience, adding several tasty new layers to the delicious cake that is Dungeon Defenders II.

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

The first layer is build expressiveness. We’re a loot-based game, and we want to empower players to customize and maximize their loot to fit their unique play styles. Items can now contain Magical Offensive and Defensive Subroutines, or “Mods” for short. These Mods add unique additional powers to items that grant them the ability to excel at thwarting specific threats or dangers. Tired of those pesky Geodes that reflect your projectile attacks with their shield? Find a new item with a Piercer Mod and watch as your attacks phase through their shield effortlessly. Because we love you, we’ve added a Mods for Relics that produce similar effects. Thus far we’ve crafted over 120 new Mods for you to experiment with and lay waste to the Old One’s armies. I’ve even heard rumors around the office water cooler that there are unique Mods coming from deep floors of Onslaught and gaining Ancient Power.

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

But how will I coordinate my Mods you ask? Am I to lay myself at the altar of RNGesus and pray for his favor? Well, dry your eyes and look no further than our second layer – Tinkering and Player Shops. Tinkering is a new process available in Town that will allow you to instantaneously transfer Mods between pieces of equipment. Using Tinkering will be key to developing the sort of build hyper-coordination that will cement your name in the history books of Etheria. If you can’t find a specific Mod at the quality you need, however, you may be able to purchase one from a Defender who has. Starting with Protean Shift everyone will be able to sell items to other Defenders in their session via Player Shops. To help aid in the discovery process, we’ve added a Dragonfall Market map to the War Table that will be exclusively for facilitating player-to-player purchases.

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

With all this new gear you will be uniquely tailoring to maximize each hero’s potential and style, you’ll need a method to carry gear through Chaos difficulties and Ancient Power.  That is why the third new layer is our revamped upgrading system. You can now upgrade, evolve, and advance items all the way from Worn quality at the first map of the campaign to Legendary Chaos 8 tier (and no that’s not a typo).  Want to slay enemies in Onslaught floor 9001 with that awesome sword you got from killing you first boss in DD2? (oh the memories!)  This system allows you to do that provided that you obtain the correct materials, catalysts, and currency. Shards have even gotten some love. You can now “dust” your unwanted Shards and purchase new ones. When you find the one you want, you can Gild it in order to reach new levels of power and forestall the effects of Ancient Power.

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift Screenshot

The final layer, or you could say “the icing on the cake” would be our additional content and rewards. There are new costumes for our Gunwitch and Barbarian, and several new weapons for every hero. There are even new Protean weapons that will “Shrinkinate” your foes. We can’t wait for everyone to share their favorite new looks and weapons.

Unfortunately, with all this new stuff going into the game, we had to end Chaos Trials. There was just too much going on and we couldn’t figure out how to keep them going. Though we know this will be a loss felt deeply throughout the community, in their place you will now find Expeditions that allow you to choose where and how you want to play. Did I mention we were focusing on player choice and creativity?

Protean Shift is the largest expansion that we’ve ever released and brings many game-changing new systems and updates to Dungeon Defenders II. We still have many more places to go, and we can’t wait to share the journey with our Xbox community. In the future, look forward to exploring new areas of Etheria and new ways to interact with your friends and fellow Defenders.  As always, check out our official forums and social media and let us know what you think about these upcoming changes. Additionally, check out our various content creators online and look for us on Mixer! We’re always watching streams and engaging with community members.

Dungeon Defenders II: Protean Shift releases on June 19, 2018 on Xbox One.  We can’t wait to see you in Etheria!

Embrace the Greatest Warframe Test in the Cinematic Quest The Sacrifice

For the third time, we here at Digital Extremes are embarking on a passionate project in Warframe we call a Cinematic Quest. The Sacrifice, the next in our Cinematic Quest library, continues to explore the burning questions, “Who are the Tenno? What is a Warframe?” and the more recent, “Why did the Lotus leave me?”

In our fifth year of Warframe, we’re taking the necessary time to construct and deliver that passion. We readily admit we’re holding back from telling you too much upfront: We don’t want to spoil anything! But it’s fair to say that The Sacrifice’s storyline will thrust players into numerous situations that will question your past and future. Your main drive is the yearning to understand the disappearance of “Space Mom.” To prepare you for The Sacrifice, let’s take a look back at how we got here.

Warframe Sacrifice Screenshot

Warframe Sacrifice Screenshot

The first Cinematic Quest, The Second Dream, revealed the Operator, young human-like beings (called the Tenno), who are gifted with extraordinary abilities over Warframes. My personal favorite memory of The Second Dream is a cutscene containing the Stalker, and my most beloved Warframe.

Approximately one year later, The War Within, the next Cinematic Quest, took the premise of The Second Dream and built on it by exploring the synergy of Warframes and Operators. Along with a series of trials designed to challenge the Tenno’s prowess, The War Within delves into the emotionally charged origin of the Grineer Empire rulers (the Twin Queens), the Conclave Master (Teshin), and the truth behind the Zariman Ten-Zero incident. A memorable moment for me will always be the “Golden Maw” encounter.

Warframe Sacrifice Screenshot

Warframe Sacrifice Screenshot

Upon completing the Chains of Harrow quest, players will find themselves treated to a short yet detrimental Quest. Mixing brief gameplay and cutscenes this bridge-style Quest reveals a mind-bending interaction between Ballas, a high-ranking Orokin prior to the fall of the Orokin Empire, and the Lotus, leading directly into The Sacrifice.

I hope this article has given you a glimmer of insight as you travel through your Warframe journey to get here. To really know it though, you’ve got to play it. How should you prepare yourself, Tenno? My recommendation is to embark upon and complete these quests: The Second Dream, The War Within, Chains of Harrows, and the Apostasy Prologue. Are you prepared for The Sacrifice?

Putting the Madness in The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, Available Now on Xbox One

Hello, Xbox fans! We are D’Avekki Studios, a new game studio run by myself, Lynda Cowles, and my husband Tim Cowles. We’ve been fans of Full Motion Video (FMV) games since the early 1990s, so we’re thrilled our own FMV, The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, is out today on Xbox One.

In TIMODD, you play a psychiatrist taking on the patients of the recently murdered Dr Dekker. One of his patients killed him and it’s your job to work out who did it! This is a murder mystery complete with Lovecraftian themes. In fact, our mantra during development was “Always play with their minds,” so if you end up questioning your sanity, we’ve done a good job!

“Doctor, you’re late, and after all those promises. Never mind, let’s not keep the patients waiting.”

Probably the strangest part of the game is the patients, who all need your help with their supernatural problems. There’s Bryce, a gravedigger who claims to have an extra hour a day to “do as he pleases,” and Elin, a nurse whose colleagues call her “the angel of death.” Marianna suffers from blackouts and wakes up naked on the beach, and Nathan’s PTSD causes him to relive entire days. Finally, there’s Claire who, by her own admission, is a “delusional psychotic with obsessive tendencies.” And that’s just what they’re willing to tell you in the first session!

The more you get to know them, the darker their stories will get, and the harder it will be to dismiss them as just stories. Choosing the questions provided on the predetermined list will give you a lot to work with, or you can type your own keywords or questions to delve deeper (reminder: the Xbox iOS/Android app can control the on-screen keyboard).

“Listen to me. You’re not listening. It’s your only bloody job!”

The more you uncover about your patients, the more you’ll be putting your own sanity at risk. At the end of the game, you’ll get one of six different insanity endings according to how much weirdness you’ve exposed yourself to. You can play it safe, ask only the scripted questions, and finish with your sanity intact (well, mostly). Or you can surrender to curiosity and madness and use the keyboard to try to find all their responses. Either way, keeping your patients’ best interests at heart will help you as well as them.

“There’s just a lot of crazy flying around Doctor. Don’t catch any of it.”

As the game progresses you’ll experience more and more strangeness. Deja vu. Apparitions. Teleportation. Even a couple of jump scares! You may start seeing things, or find creepy messages in your notes. Your patients may accuse you of bizarre crimes. It’s all very convincing but remember: if you’re seeing things or hearing things that don’t seem right, you can always watch the replay videos to check what really happened. If it’s not in the replays, well, that’s a sure sign you’re losing your mind (or the devs want you to think you are)!

“Don’t joke about going insane Doctor. That’s one thing I can’t let happen on my watch.”

Of course, we don’t really want you to lose your mind playing our game… we hope you’ll find it a fun and unique experience full of otherworldly creatures, faceless stalkers, and necromancy. If you manage to solve the murder too, that’s just a bonus!
