In We Happy Few, you’ll play the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. In this alternative 1960s England, conformity is key. You’ll have to fight or blend in with the drug-addled inhabitants, most of whom don’t take kindly to people who won’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.
When discovering the retrofuturistic city’s dark history, you’ll play through the intertwined narratives of three quietly rebellious citizens of Wellington Wells. Each with their own strengths and weaknesses, you’ll discover their pasts, prepare for their future, and engage in activities that aren’t exactly status quo in the artificially-enthused society.
We Happy Few is just weeks from launch and it’s time to learn more about the games second playable character, Sally Boyle.
Wellington Wells’ fabulous “It Girl,” Sally, is sparkling and witty, and wears the grooviest fashions better than any Wellette in the Village.
A brilliant chemist, she keeps the rich and powerful supplied with powerful concoctions that no mere pharmacist can make.
“Early on, we knew we wanted Sally Boyle to be both a clever chemist and glamorous, fashionable socialite,” says Whitney Clayton, Art Director for We Happy Few. “Her dress is the epitome of mod. To give her a look that was both iconic and distinct, we designed her to be both classy and slightly futuristic. Her dress is made of simple, graphic shapes, and a mix of modern (for the time) materials like white felt and black vinyl. Her short hair and pixie features reference fashion icons from the 60s like Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick.”
But Sally’s fabulousness is a front. She’s a survivor, wounded by her past, and she has secrets that would get her killed if they ever got out.
Fortunately, she has other drugs that she can use, affording her the means to escape detection, evade capture, and take down even the toughest of enemies.
As you reveal Sally’s story and dangerous secrets, you’ll interact with the other two playable characters, Arthur and Ollie, who each have their own secrets, motivations, and special skills in the story of We Happy Few.
“You might see the same scene from several different perspectives” adds Alex Epstein, the Narrative Director at Compulsion Games. “The dialog might change. The location might change, depending on who’s remembering. But the second version isn’t necessarily the truth just because it comes second.”
We Happy Few is coming to the Xbox One family of devices and enhanced for Xbox One X on August 10, 2018. Pre-order now on the Microsoft Store and get $9 off plus the exclusive Jolly Brolly weapon at launch!
Just over a year ago, we launched Xbox Game Pass, a new membership that gives gamers the ultimate value and freedom to play over 100 great games for one low monthly price. Over the last year, we’ve achieved several important milestones based on feedback from our fans. We expanded the service to support 40 markets across the globe. We also announced in January that going forward, we plan to release all new Xbox games from Microsoft Studios into Xbox Game Pass the same day as their global launch. We followed that up by releasing Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 into Xbox Game Pass on the same day of their global release, and announced at E3 that upcoming new titles from Microsoft Studios such as Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, and Crackdown 3 will follow suit. We added more AAA blockbuster titles such as Fallout 4, Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, Rocket League, as well as new games from independent developers to Xbox Game Pass.
After joining Xbox Game Pass, members are playing more games than ever before – not only games in the Xbox Game Pass catalog, but also other Xbox games outside the catalog. More and more members are first checking out “what’s new in Xbox Game Pass” when they turn on their consoles than ever before. This is creating a vibrant community of gamers with instant access to a shared library of over 100 great games.
As a result of this progress, our top feedback from fans is that now they want a faster way to get to Xbox Game Pass and easier ways to discover games available in the catalog. Based on this, we started testing a new Xbox Game Pass tab on the Xbox One Home with a subset of Xbox Insiders in June. Due to overwhelmingly positive feedback from our Insider community, we are excited to announce that we are releasing the all-new Game Pass tab worldwide to the entire Xbox community today.
This new tab makes Xbox Game Pass even more discoverable to new members and will help our current members check out what’s new every time they turn on their console. It also up-levels popular titles in the catalog, highlights newly-added games, spotlights the latest deals on games and DLC for members, and recommends games based on your interests so that you can easily find your next favorite game.
With this update, you may also notice the Entertainment tab has been removed from the Xbox One dashboard. While proving the best in entertainment remains important to Xbox, you will be able to find entertainment content in the Store tab and further in the Microsoft Movies & TV and Apps Category tabs. These will continue to showcase the latest and greatest in trending and popular movies, TV and music across our Microsoft service, as well as our many 3P Partners. Additionally, we will continue to evaluate ways to make it easy for you to access your favorite movies, TV shows, music and apps going forward.
We’re excited to make Xbox Game Pass even easier to access on Xbox One based on your feedback. Discover the world of Xbox Game Pass, now just a tab away!

Space jockeys and planetary pioneers alike are rejoicing with this week’s release of Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky for Xbox One. No Man’s Sky is a sci-fi adventure set in an absolutely massive universe, in which every star is orbited by planets filled with life, each of which you can visit if you’d like. Every player’s experience is unique thanks to the game’s procedural generation, ensuring you’ll discover lifeforms and environments that no other player has seen before. Thanks to a number of big additions to the base game, the release of No Man’s Sky on Xbox One brings with it some great features and opportunities to get excited about.
The NEXT Update is the Best Update
In addition to the core No Man’s Sky experience, Xbox One owners get the benefit of the game launching alongside its highly-anticipated NEXT update. The NEXT update brings a bevy of changes to the game, including (but not limited to) greatly improved graphics and textures, a new third-person perspective available both on-foot and in spaceships, an overhauled base building system that will let you build multiple bases on any planet, and the ability to command a fleet of freighters, which you can send out on exploratory missions.
Everything’s Better with Friends
The biggest change to the game with the NEXT update is the new multiplayer feature, which allows you to play with up to three of your friends in the same universe. There’s plenty to do with your space chums, including racing exocraft across the surface of newfound planets, cooperatively engaging in space battles against other players, and dividing labor when constructing colonies of bases. There are even standalone multiplayer missions that can be completed together. Of course, there’s a bit of a double-edged laser sword to all of this: you might run into a group of people working together to loot and pillage your base or take out your ship. Finally, you should note that friendly fire is on by default, so your multi-tool’s laser will damage your pals if they accidentally get in your line of fire (or deserve to be double-crossed).
Mix It Up with Mixplay
Not only can you now play No Man’s Sky with friends thanks to its new multiplayer mode, you can also have some fun by letting your friends and/or total strangers get in on the action by streaming on Mixer. No Man’s Sky Mixplay feature allows anyone watching your stream to spend their hard-earned Spark on everything from launch fuel to A-Class Tech, making it a bit easier to progress and explore more of your universe faster. Of course, if they’re feeling less-than-charitable, they could also spend their Spark on warping in enemy Sentinels or pirates to ratchet up the tension and make it more likely that’ll you be just another corpse floating through the void.
The Deep Beauty of Deep Space
No Man’s Sky is a beautiful game, featuring nearly infinite colorful worlds and creatures. It’s even more gorgeous on Xbox One X, running at 4K Ultra HD if you’ve got a monitor or television that supports it. Best of all, you can play it the way you want it. No Man’s Sky on Xbox One X feature two different modes that you can toggle between in the game options menu: a “High Performance” mode which runs at 1440p and 60 frames per second, and a “High Quality” option which achieves a native 4K resolution (or 2160p). When combined with the new and improved flora, fauna, and environments, these visual options make this a true stunner.
Play it Your Way
One of the best features of No Man’s Sky is the fact that, once you’re through the initial mission tasking you with repairing your ship and multi-tool, you can largely play the game in whatever manner you’d like. If you want to spend the majority of your time in space, go right ahead. Feel like bouncing from planet to planet without mucking around with bases? Go nuts. In addition to customize your play style, the NEXT update also added a brand-new character customization feature that offers a huge range of options. Not only can you choose between each of the game’s five races, you can also tweak everything from your gloves and armor to your torso and head.
We’ve only begun scratching the surface of No Man’s Sky for Xbox One, but it’s clear that this is the definitive version of an already deep game. We can’t wait to find out what the team at Hello Games will bring us next.
The year is 1987, and you’re an investigative journalist living in the wake of a terrorist attack that killed 23 people in England. You’re tasked with investigating an impending government act, as well as the events that led up to the incident. This is the world of The Occupation, coming to the Microsoft Store on Xbox One October 9 from us at Humble Bundle and at retail thanks to a partnership with Sold Out!
The extremely talented developers at White Paper Games, who previously developed Ether One, are the ones working on The Occupation, a first-person, fixed-time, investigative thriller that plays out in real time. You must make decisions based on the evidence you uncover and decide if you’re going to take the most direct route and risk the chance of getting caught, or plan for a more careful approach and let time tick away.
The developers at White Paper Games and we at Humble Bundle can’t wait to bring this investigative thriller to Xbox One on October 9.
I’m so excited we’re launching No Man’s Sky on Xbox One today! Last week we shared our trailer for No Man’s SkyNext, and your feedback and response has been so lovely to hear; we just couldn’t wait to let everyone play.
We’re excited to see what people do with multiplayer, unlimited base building, and the ability to command freighters in this near-infinite universe.
And we will be able to watch and play along with you because the Xbox One version comes complete with Mixer integration which allows you to interact with other people’s streams either by helping or making their game more exciting. Maybe you’ll get involved by saving someone’s life in permadeath or send some pirates to attack a traveler who is stealing from others. Or perhaps you’ll just help guide a friend through their game.
As well as launching No Man’s Sky on Xbox One, which contains four huge updates since our initial launch, we are also unveiling our largest update to date: Next. If you want to see everything that’s new, please check out the full patch notes here from our official site.
This week we also launched The Galactic Atlas, a new website by us, featuring key points in the Euclid Galaxy, a galaxy seeded by us, but being brought to life by you, the community. You can track progress, share discoveries, or join one of the growing hubs or factions.
Thank-you to everyone who has supported us in the run-up to release. This is just one more step on a longer journey. We hope you enjoy No Man’s Sky and you can keep in touch with all the news on our official site. See you out there in the universe.
