  • We have fixed the issue that game and app updates were automatically downloading to a user’s console when they did not enable this feature in Settings.  The new Allow Remote Install had a bug that was  defaulting to the “Keep my system up to date” setting rather than the “Keep my games and apps up to date” setting (Under Settings – System – Updates & Downloads).

Known Issues:

Avatars

  • It can take up to 10 seconds to view an Avatar on the profile screen after creating a new Avatar.

My Games & Apps

  • We are aware that some users are experiencing crashing of a game or the Youtube app when you are either launching or resuming the Youtube app.
  • If you are in the Youtube app and then Resume to a Game the app/game and console may hang or crash.
  • We are aware that some users are experiencing challenges navigating the Ready to Install Filter options in My Games and Apps. Some users are unable to select the filter options at all and we are investigating.

Power

  • We are tracking an issue in which the console is fully powering off when it is placed into Instant On mode.

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

  • PvP Maps – Apart from everything else, seven exclusive PvP maps await you. There’s lots of fun to be had in the new area! Save Friends and Take Out Enemies with Battlefield V’s Medic and Recon Classes

Looking forward to joining the front lines when Battlefield V launches?  The latest addition to this blockbuster series is adding more depth and flexibility to its four iconic Classes. Recon, Support, Assault, and Medic are back, now with their own weapons and gadgets plus a new set of traits called Combat Roles. In this article we’ll give you an in-depth look at two of the Classes, Medic and Recon, what they’ll add to your squad and team, and how their Combat Roles let you customize each one to best suit your playstyle.

Battlefield V Recon Soldier

Recon Class Overview

Not too worried about the loneliness of the long-distance gunner? Prefer the precision of lining up the perfect shot to a “run and gun” playstyle? Want to make sure your team gets the intelligence it needs to win the day? Recon might be the right Class for you.

Recon Arsenal

Accuracy is the name of the game for this Class, and their single-shot rifles are perfect for taking care of business from a good distance. Steady hands, keen eyesight, and the patience to wait for the right shot are all keys to success. But Recon can also (with a little training) be devastating at medium range. And their gadgets are great for spotting enemies and defending choke points.

Primary Weapons

  • Bolt Action Rifles
  • Self-Loading Rifles

Starter Gadgets

  • Spotting Scope
  • Bouncing Betty Bomb

Battlefield V Recon Soldier Roles

Recon Combat Roles

Again, you’ll get to choose from two Combat Roles for this Class. One is equipped at launch as a default and the other you’ll need to unlock during your Battlefield V career (with more available later). Choose the Combat Role and associated loadout that best suits your playstyle – you can always change them if you need to.

Sniper

This default Combat Role helps you stay scoped-in on your target (or targets) even longer, giving you a perfect chance for a silent but deadly streak. Each headshot slightly extends the duration of your steadying breath, helping you keep your remaining enemies right in the crosshairs.

Traits

  • Steady Hands: Keeps your rifle steady for longer when aiming down the sight.
  • Expert Marksman: Steady duration is extended with each headshot kill.

Pathfinder

This unlockable Combat Role takes you much closer to the action, helping you lead your squad to the fight even when battle shifts locations. Spawn on any Squad Leader on your team (not just your own), get the intel, and deploy a Spawn Beacon to bring the rest of your squad running. Create a new route, overrun an objective, or (with a little luck) deploy behind enemy lines to gain the upper hand.

Traits

  • Advance Scouting: Spawn on friendly Squad Leaders and Spawn Beacons.
  • Vanguard: Gain Requisition Points when someone spawns on your Spawn Beacon.

Battlefield V Medic Soldier

Medic Class Overview

If you live by the motto “No man left behind,” and like a more cautious and thoughtful playstyle, this Class might fit you like a (rubber) glove. Medics keep their squad alive and in the fight with rapid revives and health-replenishing Medical Pouches. But that doesn’t mean they can’t deal out some serious damage of their own with their close- to medium-range weapons.

Medic Arsenal

When you’re dashing to help out a fallen comrade, you need a weapon that’ll help keep you both alive long enough to complete your heal or revive, and the close-quarter SMG fits the bill perfectly. Need to reach a wounded teammate out in the open? The Smoke Grenade Launcher will give you the soft cover you need to get the job done.

Here are the weapons and gadgets available to this Class.

Primary Weapons

  • Sub-Machine Guns

Starter Gadgets

  • Medical Pouches
  • Smoke Grenade Launcher

Battlefield V Medic Soldier Roles

Medic Combat Roles

You’ll start with two Combat Roles, though more will become available later. One comes equipped at launch as a default and the other you’ll unlock by playing this Class. It’s important to choose the right Combat Role and associated loadout to suit your playstyle – but you can always switch them as situations on the ground change.

Field Medic

This default Combat Role comes in very handy when the tide of battle turns against you and your teammates. Spot your buddies as they begin to fall and make a mad dash for each one, handing out as many Medical Pouches as you can. Not only will they praise you as a courageous healthcare practitioner, but you’ll also score additional Requisition Points, letting your team call in more Reinforcements faster.

Traits

  • Healer: Gain additional Requisition Points when you supply your teammates with Medical Pouches.
  • Swift Effort: Sprint faster when you call out to downed friendlies.

Combat Medic

If you’re ready to be a bit more of a risk taker, this unlockable Combat Role may be perfect for you. The lower your Health, the faster you’ll sprint, either into the thick of the fight or as far away as you can get. All the while dispensing healing and revives to friends and a quick end to your enemies in melee combat.

Traits

  • Mele Expert: Melee attacks automatically take out your enemies.
  • Emergency Retreat: You sprint even faster when at critical Health.

Remember, Battlefield V is still in development, and all game features may be subject to change.

Battlefield V is now available for pre-order on the Microsoft Store. Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for the latest news and information for all things Xbox.

Creating the Competitive Line Racer Deadliners, Available Now on Xbox One

In “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance,” Robert M. Pirsig writes about quality. I think Deadliners gave me a taste of it. There’s a quality that goes into deep work, and there’s appreciation to be found there. Hidden steps and mysterious secrets to discover.

Creating things that work in this world is extremely difficult, but when it clicks you feel the love. Until the next problem arises, and it’s back to work. Conjuring up dragons isn’t the most pleasant experience but slaying them is better than you can possibly imagine.

Deadliners is a straightforward game, but parts of the gameplay talk deeply to who we are, and how we react when faced with our limits (I love that). People don’t know they have it in them, and I hope Deadliners can help bring that out.

It all started years ago when I made a little prototype game called Deadliners in JavaScript. The idea came from my older brother, who played a lot of Tron with his friends back in the 80s. It was easy to feel how much he missed that time. We had a lot of fun playing the prototype, and I had created it all on my own!

Deadliners Screenshot

Finding the Right Path

A couple of years later I finished my BA in Software Engineering, which had been tremendously dull. I wanted to make a change for the future, but I didn’t know how.

And that’s when Casey Muratori saved my life.

Casey is the sole programmer and author of the YouTube show called “Handmade Hero,” an educational stream where he teaches you to program an entire game from scratch. I can’t recommend it enough. A single stream of “Handmade Hero” shows you just how masterful a person can be, and it’s right there, on the Internet.

I was blown away. Seeing that, my gut told me to follow along for a couple of months, and after that I knew I was headed in the right direction. I wanted that for my life, and oh my god, it was the best decision ever.

Deadliners Screenshot

Coming to a Decision

After following the teachings of Casey, I branched out and worked on minor games to improve my skill. I made a little Bomberman-like game and a few months after I started on a bigger original project. Of course, the scope was way too big, being a single-person developer, and I dropped the project. I had to approach it differently. Deadliners was still in the back of my mind, and I thought: Why not?

I knew the gameplay was fun, and quickly ideas popped in to my mind about different game modes and challenges. My older brother helped me once more and we had many great talks about the design, the graphics and what kind of music to put in. We also had a bunch of disagreements, being family in a somewhat commercial project isn’t always great. I guess it made us stronger.

The development took about nine months, where I had to learn a whole lot, and I got help from a bunch of nice people who helped make the graphics and soundtrack. I think it turned out well, especially the gameplay. There are depths to it, that hopefully some players get to experience.

Deadliners Screenshot

Looking Forward

Something very special about our time is that you can treat YouTube as your own little university. You can choose freely among the best of many different teachers. If you have the discipline, you can gain insight from masters of the craft and create a fantastic education for yourself. Material beats method and YouTube has excellent material, if you know how to find it.

Watching different programmers at work, I found my own style and I grasped the lessons that worked well for me. One of the best ones, I think, is the art of getting things going.

It’s so easy not to go after your goals in life, but there is a trick to get going, and if you figure it out, nothing can stop you. You pass through the membrane. You take the war path. You get out of bed, sit down, and you do the work. One step in front of the other, into the unknown.

Would I recommend making a game to someone else? Making Deadliners was, by far, the hardest thing I have ever done. I imagined it would be hard making a game; it’s not like that information is hard to find. But it was much, much harder.

Deadliners Screenshot

I guess you must ignore the warning signs, if you really want something of value. Every single step in development was a challenge, nothing came easy. Learning C/C++, game design, graphics API’s, game testing, finding help among friends and to finally release it to the world is something I look back on with much despair.

Looking at a list of a 150 todo’s, knowing there is only one guy to finish them all. I am grateful it worked out, and I can’t wait for my next project. Maybe conjuring up dragons is my kind of thing.

I hope players will like the game and invite their friends to a small tournament, and that they feel the spirit of my brothers gaming group from the 80s. It’s always interesting figuring out hierarchies, and in Deadliners, you quickly realize who’s the best. Good luck!
