[Dev News] Trexel – New PixiEditor for GameDev

Pixi Labs, the creators of PixiEditor (check out our coverage here), have just unveiled Trexel, a new 2D application built on PixiEditor specifically aimed at game developers. The first beta release is expect to be in early 2027.

Key features promised in Trexel include:

Seamless Texturing

Design seamless, repeating textures and preview how they tile across an infinite canvas.

Tilemap Creator

Got the textures ready? Compose new levels for your game right inside the editor. Export to game engine friendly formats.

PBR Texturing

Create live-like materials with normal, height, specular and roughness maps with an animated 360° preview so you can inspect it in real time.

Procedural VFX

Use the VFX graph to make your games more alive with Trexel’s node-based particle system.

Asset Creation

Vector, raster, pixel art – your choice. In Trexel you can create your assets in any style with dedicated toolsets.

Animations

Frame-by-frame, procedural and skeleton-based animation suite. Trexel adapts to your use case.

Vegetation Tools

Create procedural trees, bushes and plants. Make them move with shaders or use special vegetation brushes to give them personalized look.

Skyboxes

Compose skybox cube maps or equirectangular textures with live inside-the-box preview. Animate, apply procedural effects and enhance with the node graph.

Game User Interface

Easily create 9-patched panels, buttons with states and test the entire design in the interactive playground.

Engine Integrations

Live editing integration for Unity, Godot and Unreal. Save to engine-native formats. Zero post-export setup.
