News - Epic's Return To iOS Hits A New Hurdle After Apple Cancels Its Developer Acco

Ahead of its intended return to iOS this month in Europe, Epic's plans to build and release its own app store on that platform have been derailed after Apple terminated its developer account. Back in February, Epic had been granted a developer account that would have allowed it to launch its app store and sidestep Apple's 30% platform fees, thanks to European Union regulation and the new Digital Markets Act.

Earlier this week, Epic claimed in a blog post that Apple had pulled the plug on its developer account. Epic shared a letter from Apple's lawyers that described Epic as "verifiably untrustworthy," pointing to things like Epic's ongoing litigation against Apple and past circumvention of its rules.

"This is a serious violation of the DMA and shows Apple has no intention of allowing true competition on iOS devices," Epic wrote. "In terminating Epic's developer account, Apple is taking out one of the largest potential competitors to the Apple App Store. They are undermining our ability to be a viable competitor and they are showing other developers what happens when you try to compete with Apple or are critical of their unfair practices."

News - Max Password-Sharing Crackdown Coming This Year

Warner Bros. Discovery streaming and gaming boss J.B. Perrette has confirmed that a password-sharing crackdown is coming to Max this year. Speaking during a Morgan Stanley event, Perrette said cracking down on users sharing passwords will be a way for the company to make more money from the streaming service.

"Obviously, Netflix has implemented [a password-sharing crackdown] extremely successfully," he said. "We're going to be doing that starting later this year and into 2025. Another growth opportunity for us."

Pressed to say just how much more money Warner Bros. Discovery is expecting to make from cracking down on password-sharing, Perrette said it's a "meaningful opportunity."

News - Xbox Game Pass Dropping These Three Games Soon

Microsoft will remove three more games from Xbox Game Pass later this month. The trio of titles includes a beloved RPG developed with Studio Ghibli, a snowboarding game, and an FPS that involves searching derelict spaceships.

Spotted by Wario64 on X (formerly known as Twitter), Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is probably the biggest title leaving Xbox Game Pass on March 16. The remastered RPG from Level-5 originally arrived on the subscription service in 2022 when it first launched on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The other two games are Shredders and Hardspace: Shipbreaker. The former is a snowboarding game inspired by the Amped series from the 2000s. Meanwhile, the latter sees you salvaging spaceships to assist in paying off your debt. Hardspace: Shipbreaker comes from developer Blackbird Interactive, also known for its work on Minecraft Legends and the upcoming title Homeworld 3. GameSpot confirmed on the Xbox Game Pass app that all three games will indeed be taken down from the service March 16.
