News - Get An Intel i7 Mac Mini With 32GB RAM For Only $350
A PC doesn't need to be a hunk of artistic metal and RGB lights, especially if you're looking for some compact power. Take the Apple Mac Mini for example, an understated little device that takes up minimal space but packs enough of a punch for creative pursuits. Multiple of Apple's Mac Minis are on sale at Amazon and Woot right now. For a quick bargain, there's this late-2018 Mac Mini on sale at Amazon's Woot shop for $350--and with free shipping included for Prime members. It's a pretty decent device if you're looking to run some simple programs and media through it, and it has a 128GB SSD coupled with 32GB of high-performance RAM.
For deals on newer Mac Minis with Apple's Silicon chips, Amazon has a few bangers here to check out. The 2023 256GB Apple Mac Mini is normally $599, but you can get this for $499 and see just how much of a difference the M2 chip makes for when you need to run some demanding programs. This one also has 8 CPU cores, 10 GPU cores, and up to 24GB unified memory for when you have a need for processing speed. If you feel like splurging, there's also the M2 Pro version on sale for $1,199 (normally $1,299), and this one features a 512GB SSD, a 12-core CPU, 19-core GPU, and up to 32GB of unified memory.
The catch with these Mac Mini PCs is that you'll still need to source a display for them. Fortunately, there's an all-in-one solution with the iMac, as you're getting a full desktop PC experience built right into the monitor enclosure. These are pretty sleek and powerful, and one of the standout deals here is a 2023 10-Core GPU iMac for $200 off at Amazon. This model has a 24-inch retina display featuring 500 nits of brightness, and internally, it has an M3 chipset, a 256GB SSD, and 8GB of RAM, for just $1,149.
Despite releasing one of the year's most critically acclaimed expansions, Destiny 2's The Final Shape, it's been a rough year for Bungie. Last October, the developer laid off roughly 100 people, equating to approximately 8% of it's workforce. Earlier this week, the studio let go another 220--a shockingly high 17% of its workforce--while also relocating 12% of its remaining staff to its parent company, Sony.
Bungie executive Pete Parsons cited "rising costs of development," "industry shifts," and "enduring economic conditions" as the reason for the mass layoffs, which impacted "most" of Bungie's executive and senior leader positions. Considering this loss of leadership, it comes as no surprise then that the studio is entering what the executive refers to as a time of "tremendous change." And as for the mass transfer of former Bungie employees to Sony, Parsons' explained the move aims to "deepen" Bungie's integration with the company--a statement that has raised more than a few eyebrows.
Though it's easy to see these layoffs as merely the latest in a series' of widespread job losses in the industry, it also showcases the trend of large corporations acquiring well-known developers and how it ultimately leads to significant changes in staffing, priorities, and, potentially, identity. This week on Spot On, Tam and Lucy discuss the impact of these layoffs and what it means for the future of Destiny 2, Marathon, and Bungie as a whole.

News - Nintendo Switch Closing In On PS2's Sales Record
Nintendo's latest earnings report has arrived, and while Switch sales were down dramatically, the console is now even closer to reaching the PS2's high watermark of an estimated 155 million units sold. Through the quarter that ended on June 30, Switch sales stand at 143.42 million units.
Nintendo sold 2.1 million Switch consoles in the past quarter, which was down significantly from the 3.91 million it sold during the same period last year. Nintendo said the downturn can be attributed to a difficult comparison. Indeed, during the same period last year, Switch sales benefitted from the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Nintendo said sales during the same quarter last year were "extremely high" due to those factors. For this year, however, "there were no such special factors in the first quarter of this fiscal year, and with Nintendo Switch now in its eighth year since launch, unit sales of both hardware and software decreased significantly year-on-year," Nintendo said.

News - Until Dawn's Peter Stormare Will Reprise His Role In The Movie
Earlier this year, Sony Pictures announced the upcoming film adaptation of the Until Dawn video game. Now, Peter Stormare, one of the stars of the horror video game, is confirmed to reprise his role in the movie.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Stormare will once again play Dr. Hill, a therapist who makes increasingly unsettling appearances in the game. This casting decision suggests that the movie's script will remain close to the source material. For that reason alone, it's too much of a spoiler to say how and why Dr. Hill is a part of the story. But the primary focus is on a group of friends who reunite one year after a tragedy for a vacation in the mountains that soon goes horribly wrong.
Maia Mitchell and Belmont Cameli have also joined the cast in currently undisclosed roles. In June, Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A’zion were the first performers lined up for the movie. The video game's cast included Oscar-winner Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, and Brett Dalton, among others. So far, Stormare is the only actor from the game confirmed for the film.
