New Preview Alpha Skip Ahead 1810 System Update – 7/8/18

Starting at 2:00 p.m. PDT today, members of the Xbox One Preview Alpha Skip Ahead Ring will begin receiving the latest Xbox One system update (1810.180706-1920). Read on for more about the fixes and known issues in the latest 1810 system update.  This build has the same features as 1806 plus more to be announced over the coming weeks!

IMPORTANT BUILD NOTE : Console Refresh

Thank you all for helping flight the early version of 1810 (Redstone 5) builds. Numerous users have reported an issue with various apps and games being unable to launch after the upgrade from 1806 (Redstone 4) to 1810 (Redstone 5).

Thanks to your bug reports, our teams were able to determine that the core OS was corrupted during this recent update. Unfortunately, the only fix for this that works post-upgrade is an OS refresh. Therefore, today’s system update will automatically Factory Refresh your console (Your apps, games and cloud saves will remain intact – however, the refresh will remove the credentials for media apps, etc.). We understand that this is frustrating, and thank you for your patience in identifying this critical issue.

Fixes:

Media Remote

  • Fixed the issues users were having with various functions not working on the media remote.

My Games and Apps – Launching Titles

  • We have fixed the issue in which certain apps and games are not launching correctly.

My Games and Apps – FastStart

  • Improvements to titles that leverage the FastStart technology.

Notifications

  • Design change to Club notifications and LFG notifications that whey will now toast-only and not show up in the System Tab

Virtual Keyboard

  • We have numerous fixes in this build that address the Virtual keyboard.  Users should no longer see the VK unreadable when using the light theme.

Known Issues:

Headsets

  • We are tracking an issue with various headsets and mics not working in the build such as Turtle Beach wireless headsets.
  • Issue: Connecting multiple headsets along with more than one input device on the system (physical controllers, game streaming controllers, wireless headsets), will cause headsets to no longer work.
  • Mitigation: Disconnect all input and audio devices, including controllers, wired and wireless headsets, and game streaming controllers.  Once they have been disconnected, connect only one controller and one headset.

Game Pass Tab

  • Preview Alpha – Skip Ahead users will notice that the Entertainment tab has been replaced on the dashboard with Game Pass content. This new tab allows for easy access to the Game Pass catalog and is only available in the US region at this time, so Preview Alpha Skip Ahead Insiders in regions outside of the US will continue to see the Entertainment tab.

Groups

  • You may see issues with Groups if you frequently switch between your non-Preview console and your Preview console. Workaround: Reset your Groups locally on the Preview console through “My games & apps” > Groups, then using the “Delete all groups” button at the bottom of the page to resync from the service.

Microsoft Edge

  • The cursor may disappear when exiting and re-entering the app
    • Workaround: Press Y when re-entering the app to make the cursor re-appear

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter an incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

Networking

  • When the console wakes from Instant on/connected standby with a wired connection, the console may not recognize that the Ethernet cable is plugged in. Workaround: Please reboot the console via Guide -> reboot.

News - Nintendo’s Long Lost Arcade Game Sky Skipper Flies Onto Switch This Week
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 07-18-2018, 06:13 AM - Forum: Nintendo Discussion - No Replies

Nintendo’s Long Lost Arcade Game Sky Skipper Flies Onto Switch This Week

During the Nintendo Treehouse Live events at E3 this year, Nintendo revealed that Sky Skipper – an almost-forgotten arcade game from the ’80s – would be coming to Switch. The time has finally come for us to try the game out for ourselves, with a 20th July release date now confirmed for Japan.

In case you haven’t heard the story before, Sky Skipper was a game released by Nintendo in 1981 in Japanese arcades, acting as a follow up to Donkey Kong. The cabinet featured artwork by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto, but the game itself didn’t perform as well as initially hoped. Ten arcade cabinets found their way to North America for localisation purposes, but the poor reception caused Nintendo to convert them into Popeye cabinets. One sole cabinet now remains at Nintendo of America HQ and the ROM from this cabinet was used to create the upcoming Switch version.

The game sees players flying a plane through scrolling mazes in a bid to save animals caged by enemy gorillas. The player must drop bombs onto these pesky gorillas, temporarily knocking them out and unlocking the cages. The idea is to then swoop down to pick up the animals before the gorillas get up and lock the cages again. The Switch release is said to leave the game untouched, aside from the addition of online leaderboards, to allow players to experience the title as it was originally intended.

Sky Skipper is releasing as part of Hamster’s Arcade Archives collection and is confirmed to be releasing in Japan this Friday. We expect other regions to receive the game either on the same day or close to it.

Are you excited to give this game a go? Let us know if you’ll be keeping an eye out for this one when it lands on the eShop with a comment below.

News - ’80s-Inspired Side-Scrolling Shmup Black Paradox Is Headed To Nintendo Switch

’80s-Inspired Side-Scrolling Shmup Black Paradox Is Headed To Nintendo Switch

Italian indie developer Fantastico Studio has revealed that its synthwave-styled, sci-fi shoot ’em up Black Paradox will be making its way to Switch later this year.

In the game, you play as Black Paradox, a fierce bounty hunter who must defeat the biggest criminal organization in space, The Hellraisers. The game blends old-school shoot ‘em up elements and roguelike mechanics across seven levels of random generated enemy waves and hazards, presumably taking away the technique of learning each stage’s layout as you play.

Each level will feature its own boss, each with different and unique attack patterns. The more you advance in the game, the more the bosses will start to attack using ‘bullet hell’ patterns. There are also many different weapons and powerups that are available to collect, aiming to make each run through the game that little bit different. Here’s a full, and lengthy, feature list:

– 18 deadly weapons!
– 17 handy powerups!
– 11 deadly drones, little helpers that pack a lot of punch!
– A space bending ultimate move, the “Black Paradox”, so powerful that the main character got his name from it.
– 50+ different enemies all with its own attack patterns!
– 7 deadly bosses with unique attacks.
– A growth system to give the player more powers while upgrading his stats.
– Integrated control support for all kinds of controllers!
– 2 player local co-op.
– Amazing pixel art.
– Original Synth-Wave soundtrack by the trio Inward, Hanzo & Randie

The game is just about to launch through Steam Early Access (on 27th July) and will be making its way to consoles after that. A Switch release is currently expected to land in September and a free demo for PC is available right now.

  News - Solstice of Heroes

Solstice of Heroes

“This is our finest hour. Ever victorious against the enemies of humanity. Ever triumphant in our home, and around the system. Now the City wants to honor us. Who are we to deny them?”

—Ikora Rey

It was a day that was supposed to be a celebration of our past glories. The anniversary of Six Fronts — the victory that united the City and gave us the Vanguard. Guardians donned ceremonial armor to commemorate the event, and gathered for a rousing speech by the Speaker. Then everything came apart when the Red Legion struck.

The Tower fell. The City was lost. Thousands of lives were lost with it. It was our lowest point since the Collapse. But humanity is not so easily extinguished.

We fought back. We recovered our lost Light. With the awakening of the Traveler, we faced our conqueror and prevailed. We reclaimed our home. We entered a new Golden Age.

That was almost a year ago.

Now, humanity is once again victorious: against the overwhelming might of Ghaul and the Red Legion; against Panoptes and the infinite threat of the Vex; against Xol and the unfathomable hordes of the Hive. More than ever, the City is grateful for their seemingly invincible Guardian protectors. And more than ever, humanity wants to show that gratitude.

Solstice of Heroes begins on Tuesday, July 31. This event is held in the Tower, and allows the inhabitants of the City to celebrate and thank Guardians for bravely defending them. During this time of celebration, Guardians will once again don the now-broken ceremonial armor from the day the City was lost to the Red Legion. They do this for many reasons: to remind themselves of what it’s like to not be invincible; to challenge themselves and thus inspire the City even more; and to eventually reforge that broken gear into something stronger… just as humanity has been broken and reforged over and over again for hundreds of years.

Guardians will meditate on their journey through the Red War and take on additional challenges in those memories. They will marvel at the resurgence of the Traveler, as the elements themselves flare into existence during their adventures. And they’ll do it all while humanity celebrates their past, present, and future.

Ikora Rey is the Tower’s representative for the Solstice of Heroes event. She’ll direct you to the center of the Tower, where the City has erected the Statue of Heroes as the focal point for the event. The statue will track your Moments of Triumph progress, and grant you the Solstice of Heroes event armor that you will begin upgrading.

New Armor to Upgrade

After you visit the Statue of Heroes, you will receive an uncommon “Scorched” armor set at Power 240. On each armor piece is a series of objectives that you will need to complete to upgrade the armor. Once you have completed the objectives, return to the Statue of Heroes to upgrade to the next set.

After you upgrade your Shattered set, you’ll receive the “Rekindled” set at Power 340 — with a new list of objectives. Once you complete those objectives, your reward is the “Resplendent” Armor Set at Power 400. One final group of objectives to complete, and you’ll unlock the Masterwork version of the armor set.

If you love the way the Shattered or Rekindled sets look, and would rather show those off, we’ve got you covered. Each Resplendent Armor Set offers the previous versions as ornaments, so you can pick and choose how each piece looks.

Redux Missions

One of the ways you’ll upgrade your armor during the event is through Redux Missions. We have hand selected 5 story missions and given them some slight alterations. Each mission can be accessed in the Tower by finding its statue. Here are the five missions for the event:

I – Homecoming

II – Spark

III – Payback

IV – 1AU

V – Chosen

Moments of Triumph

Many of you have already begun completing your Moments of Triumph, currently being tracked on Bungie.net. The final five Triumphs will become available at the beginning of the Solstice Heroes event, and can be tracked in-game. Your Triumphs will be tracked by in-game bounties that are obtained at the Statue of Heroes. As you complete and turn in those Bounties, you’ll unlock rewards that can be redeemed at the Statue.

Extras

There’s also the Solstice Engram available from Tess Everis. You can earn three per account by completing the event Milestone on each of your characters. No matter what activity you play in Destiny 2 during Solstice of Heroes, you’ll receive one Solstice Engram in addition to the Bright Engram you earn for leveling up.

Here’s a look at some of the rewards that will drop from the Solstice Engram:

Armor Glows also come from the Solstice Engram. These can be applied to any version of the Solstice of Heroes armor sets, to provide Guardians with an enhanced look. Armor Glows are unlocked permanently, like ornaments, and they shine brightest when your subclass element aligns with the element of the Glow.

Developer Insights

In preparation for the Solstice of Heroes event, the July Update for Destiny 2 kicks off for all Destiny 2 players on July 17, 2018. This update introduces 6v6 Quickplay for the Crucible, Iron Banner upgrades, Exotic Armor tuning, new Exotic Catalysts, Prestige Raid Lairs, Vanguard and Crucible Bounties, the Moments of Triumph event with 400 Power gear, and more.

If you’re looking to get a head start on your Moments of Triumph before Solstice of Heroes goes live on July 31, 2018, make sure to check out the Moments of Triumph Guide, which can be found here.
