Pokemon Go: January 2020 Community Day's Featured Pokemon Revealed
Pokemon Go's first Community Day of 2020 is set for Sunday, January 19, and now we know what Pokemon you'll be able to catch during the event. Niantic has announced that Piplup, the Water-type penguin from Diamond and Pearl, will be the featured Pokemon for January's Community Day.
Throughout the event, Piplup will appear in the wild much more often than normal, making this a good opportunity to stock up on Piplup Candy. You'll also have your first chance to catch a Shiny Piplup in Pokemon Go, and the Pokemon will learn a special event-exclusive move if you can evolve it into its final form, Empoleon, up to two hours after the Community Day ends. This month's event move has not yet been revealed, but previous starter Pokemon were able to learn Hydro Cannon during their respective Community Days.
On top of increased Piplup spawns, a few other bonuses will be available during January's Community Day. As usual, any Lure Modules you use during the event will remain active for three hours, rather than the usual 30 minutes. Pokemon eggs will also hatch at a quarter of the distance they normally take. You can read more details about January's Community Day on the official Pokemon website.
Like previous Community Days, January's event will run for three hours, but it will take place at different times depending on which hemisphere you live in. For players in the Northern Hemisphere, the event will run from 11 AM-2 PM local time; in the Southern Hemisphere, the Community Day takes place from 3-6 PM local time.

Nomad Games announces Fury of Dracula digital port
Nomad Games is a studio to keep an eye on this year, we feel. Having recently extracted themselves from their close partnership with Asmodee Digital, the world is seems is once again theirs for the taking and they’re already putting into action their master plan:
Step One: Get a new Games Workshop license Step Two: ??? Step Three: Profit
Nomad Games are perhaps best known for their digital port of Talisman, one of Games Workshop’s cult classic board games (before the miniatures firm doubled-down on all things Space Marines). Seems the studio has managed to bag themselves another ‘old school’ license, as Nomad has today announced they are making a digital version of Fury of Dracula.
Originally published by the Warhammer giant in 1987, this is a Hidden Movement game about a group of vampire hunters who need to uncover clues in order to stop Dracula (who is played) before he creates an unstoppable army of mindless thralls! Nomad plan on adapting the fourth edition of the game, which was released in 2019.
We don’t know much more about the project at this point. Nomad aren’t ready to commit specific platforms yet and in what order they’ll be developed, but we did get a “more than likely” comment on the game coming to mobile platforms. Whether it’ll be first, same time as PC/Console or later down the line we don’t know yet.

Boosting the global fight against mosquito-borne diseases
Australia’s Far North Queensland has been declared essentially dengue-free for the first time in about a century, following an intensive release campaign. Other targeted efforts are making strong progress in Asia and South America, where authorities have long tried to wipe out mosquito populations with insecticides.
“Our Wolbachia method is natural and self-sustaining,” Green says. “As a large-scale public health intervention, we believe that this a cost-effective way. The evidence so far is that it can sustain itself in local populations for up to seven years. And we expect it will continue.”
How machine learning and AI will help take the fight global
The Program’s data science partner, Gramener, is developing machine learning for the AI model. It will tap the Program’s existing release point records as well as many other datasets on human population densities, land use, industrial sites, weather, and other variables. Satellite imagery will be a big part of mapping out large urban areas with strategic and granular accuracy.
The aim is to have the ability to pinpoint multiple impactful release points within blocks of as little as 100 square meters.
“We want to target the areas where our intervention is needed most,” Green says. “We will be able to release Wolbachia mosquitoes where they will have the most effect with analysis at a countrywide scale instead of at a neighborhood scale. Our ambition is to be able to look at a whole country and run the model over all its urban areas and let it give an unprecedented snapshot of where we can have the most impact.”

Joppa says machine learning and AI are potent tools for not-for-profits that want to tackle big challenges but have limited resources.
“The World Mosquito Program started with the objective of figuring out how to attack a problem. In this case, they worked out how to neutralize the disease-carrying ability of mosquitoes. Then they worked out where they needed to release these mosquitoes.
“They started collecting tons of data. It then became a really messy data problem as they tried to compare a bunch of different data sets to work out where they could be most efficient.
“Ultimately, this is where machine learning comes in. It allows you to take all of that data, abstract it down to a single estimate of probability and map it out. It is cost-effective, and it is super scalable. Instead of figuring out data visualization and analytics for one particular area, you can now do it for an entire city, for an entire country, for the entire world.
“That is because the data sets they are using are globally generalizable. One model that works here can work everywhere.”

Sway is a tiling Wayland compositor which has mostly the same features, look and workflow as the i3 X11 window manager. Because Sway uses Wayland instead of X11, the tools to setup X11 don’t always work in sway. This includes tools like xrandr, which are used in X11 window managers or desktops to setup monitors. This is why monitors have to be setup by editing the sway config file, and that’s what this article is about.
Getting your monitor ID’s
First, you have to get the names sway uses to refer to your monitors. You can do this by running:
$ swaymsg -t get_outputs
You will get information about all of your monitors, every monitor separated by an empty line.
You have to look for the first line of every section, and for what’s after “Output”. For example, when you see a line like “Output DVI-D-1 ‘Philips Consumer Electronics Company’”, the output ID is “DVI-D-1”. Note these ID’s and which physical monitors they belong to.
Editing the config file
If you haven’t edited the Sway config file before, you have to copy it to your home directory by running this command:
cp -r /etc/sway/config ~/.config/sway/config
Now the default config file is located in ~/.config/sway and called “config”. You can edit it using any text editor.
Now you have to do a little bit of math. Imagine a grid with the origin in the top left corner. The units of the X and Y coordinates are pixels. The Y axis is inverted. This means that if you, for example, start at the origin and you move 100 pixels to the right and 80 pixels down, your coordinates will be (100, 80).
You have to calculate where your displays are going to end up on this grid. The locations of the displays are specified with the top left pixel. For example, if we want to have a monitor with name HDMI1 and a resolution of 1920×1080, and to the right of it a laptop monitor with name eDP1 and a resolution of 1600×900, you have to type this in your config file:
output HDMI1 pos 0 0
output eDP1 pos 1920 0
You can also specify the resolutions manually by using the res option:
output HDMI1 pos 0 0 res 1920x1080
output eDP1 pos 1920 0 res 1600x900
Binding workspaces to monitors
Using sway with multiple monitors can be a little bit tricky with workspace management. Luckily, you can bind workspaces to a specific monitor, so you can easily switch to that monitor and use your displays more efficiently. This can simply be done by the workspace command in your config file. For example, if you want to bind workspace 1 and 2 to monitor DVI-D-1 and workspace 8 and 9 to monitor HDMI-A-1, you can do that by using:

Wargroove Free "Double Trouble" DLC Coming Next Month
The strategy RPG Wargroove is getting its first big piece of free DLC on February 6, according to developer Chucklefish. That date will bring the "Double Trouble" expansion to most platforms: PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The one exception is PS4, which will be getting the DLC at an unspecified later date. A new trailer for the DLC is below.
Double Trouble is designed to be ideal for co-op and features a new story with an entirely new faction. The new Outlaw Commanders include Wulfar, the twins Errol and Orla, and Vesper. You'll get access to two new unit types, Thieves and Riflemen. The update will also include new Arcade missions, new map editor features, and expanded options for Quick Play and custom campaigns. It will also be accompanied by a new balance patch for several units and commanders.
The Double Trouble expansion recently caused some trouble for Chucklefish, as it received criticism for casting white actors to play three new characters of color. The outcry was enough to prompt a response from the developer, explaining its decision and promising to do better in the future.
Wargroove is a retro-styled strategy game modeled after games like Advance Wars, though with a fantasy setting. GameSpot's review gave it an 8/10 for its deep strategy and suite of creation tools.
"Wargroove is a delight to play, and the possibility of an endless supply of content for it is a tantalizing prospect," wrote Chris Pereira. "Chucklefish could have offered up a prettied-up take on Advance Wars with online multiplayer and called it a day. Instead, it's made meaningful improvements that make this both a satisfying answer to starved Advance Wars fans' wishes and a genuinely great experience on its own merits."
Wargroove is also available on Xbox Game Pass for consoles.
