Fans of classic Dungeons & Dragons RPGs are in for a treat: Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate II, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights are all coming to Switch and other consoles for the first time later this year in their Enhanced Edition guises.

Publisher Skybound Games is releasing the games in three bundles (well, two plus Neverwinter Nights) featuring all DLC and expansions, plus restored and even brand new content in the case of the Baldur’s Gate pack.

Here’s a more thorough breakdown of the contents from the official PR blurb:

● The Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition Pack: Celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary, the original Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and its sequel, Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition, return with all DLC and restored quest content, as well as the Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion, featuring new original content developed by Beamdog to bridge the two games.
● Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition / Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition: Two must-play games and all their DLC in one package – the chilling Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition, plus its expansions, and the enhanced edition of 1999’s RPG of the Year, Planescape: Torment.
● Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition: The 2002 Computer RPG of the Year and all its DLC deliver 10 standalone D&D-based adventures featuring co-op and online multiplayer.

Developed by Beamdog, a studio with experience bringing these specific games to more modern platforms, these editions have apparently been ‘tailored for a natural gameplay experience on consoles’, including optimisation for controllers and redesigned UI, so hopefully they’ll feel good while playing on-the-go.

As you can see in the trailer above, two of the bundles arrive in the autumn on 27th September with Neverwinter Nights bringing up the rear on 6th December.

Fans of physical carts should also celebrate the fact that these games will also be available in a box with a bitter-tasting cartridge nestled inside:

Are you a fan of these classic games or will this be your first time dipping your toe into the D&D pool? Feel free to share your thoughts with a comment in the usual place.
