Yo-Kai Watch 4 – the next entry in the Yo-Kai Watch series and the first to appear on Switch – has seen a delay in Japan, it has been confirmed.

Originally, the game had been scheduled to arrive in winter 2018, but the latest issue of Japanese magazine CoroCoro has revealed that it has now been pushed back to spring 2019. Of course, apart from this entry, the Yo-Kai Watch games have all released on 3DS, with this latest instalment likely being the biggest step up the franchise has seen to date. We expect that this new development territory and larger project scale are to blame.

This delay does help the west in its bid to catch up with the series, however; Europe and North America are only getting the previous entry – Yo-Kai Watch 3 on Nintendo 3DS – over the coming months, so this might help to bridge the gap between western and Japanese releases just a little. Even if this delay has a knock-on effect for the localisation of the new Switch title, at least we’ll be able to play Yo-Kai Watch 3 just before the fourth entry comes out.
