Kobe Bryant, one of the most legendary players in the NBA, and one of the best players of all time has finally retired from the court as of yesterday. Kobe was equally hated and loved by many basketball fans. Attendees at Kobe's last game could be seen smiling from the nosebleeds as he ended his final game by scoring a massive 60 points. Like James Harden, he missed nothing and worked his magic without passing it. Rocking his sleeve to separate him from the Joes, Kobe is a perfect blend of dedication to his craft, hard work, and a smidge of arrogance thrown into the mix which made him the player and the massive inspiration to his fans he is today. As one of the rare few players to reach a “legendary” status, such as Allen “Saucin’” Iverson, Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Shaquille O’ Neal, and Steph Curry, it’s only fitting that he earns his place on his very own special edition of a 2K game.
2K Games officially announced their partnership with Kobe to bring NBA 2K fans the NBA 2K17 Legend Edition, featuring none other than the man himself gracing the cover. The special edition of the game will feature some pretty interesting digital and physical content that was inspired by Kobe. On the physical side, the game will come with two Kobe Panini trading cards, a limited-edition Kobe poster, and a Black Mamba skin for the controller for the game’s respective console. On the digital side, purchasers will receive 30,000 Virtual Currency, a MyTEAM Bundle which will include 3 packs with a guaranteed Kobe limited use card. Nike Kobe 11 retirement sneakers, a Kobe hoodie, and a Kobe #8 Mitchell and Ness jersey.
The Legend Edition will be available in both digital and physical formats, but digital buyers will only receive the digital content. The NBA 2K17 Legend Edition will set you back $80, and will launch this September along with the standard version for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. It currently hasn’t been revealed who will be gracing the cover of the standard edition, but you can expect to hear the official reveal during the NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals professional gaming tournament in June.
