News - 1,200 Ubisoft Employees Go On Strike
Earlier this year, Ubisoft unions called for a strike against the video game publisher, and it's happening right now. Over 1,200 Ubisoft employees have walked out on their jobs in protest over the company's recent restructuring, its plans for future layoffs, and a recent return-to-office mandate. Five Ubisoft unions--STJV, Solidaires Informatique, CGT, CFE-CGC, and Printemps Ecologique--are taking part in the strike, which is primarily taking place in France. However, the three-day strike is also impacting workers at Ubisoft Milan. In January, the unions called for Yves Guillemot to resign from his position as Ubisoft's CEO. Continue Reading at GameSpot

News - Control Resonant Does Not Use Generative AI
Remedy's next big game, Control Resonant, does not utilize generative AI, according to the company's interim CEO. Markus Mäki said during Remedy's latest earnings briefing that there is "varied interest" in the technology at the company, however. "I'm a big believer in player value--so doing things that really add something to the gameplay experience and player experience. I'm also a big believer in the creative people on our team and that they know the best ways to add that value. There is varied interest in different crafts at Remedy into investigating these AI tools," Maki explained, as reported by Game Developer. He flat-out confirmed that Control Resonant "does not use generative AI content at all." However, he said he's unable to say definitively if future projects could utilize the technology. News - Hearthstone's Next Expansion Cataclysm Coming March 17, Imagines If Deathwing
Hearthstone is preparing to launch its 12th year with a new Core Set and new expansion, this time based on one of World of Warcraft's most iconic events. The expansion is called Cataclysm, named after the WoW expansion of the same name, but as usual Hearthstone is delivering a twist on what we've come to expect from the Warcraft lore. This time, the apocalyptic dragon aspect Deathwing wins. It will release on March 17. In this story, Murozond pulled the victorious Deathwing into the Hearthstone universe, leaving its heroes to defeat the dragon. That effort will be led by Chromie and her Dragonflights, the dragon associated with protecting the timeline, who will pull heroes from across history to defeat this new version of Deathwing. Appropriately, this expansion will bring Colossal minions back to Hearthstone. First introduced in 2022's Voyage to the Sunken City, these minions spread out their effects across multiple bodies with huge effects. Each class will get its own Colossal minion, and six of them are designated as Deathwing's lieutenants. Meanwhile, two new keywords will be introduced: Herald used by those allied with Deathwing with effects that stack the more Herald cards you play; and Shatter for the Dragonflights, which split into two halves to give you flexibility or the ability to combine them. There will also be powerful class-based Triumph and Last Stand spells associated with each class's hero. Continue Reading at GameSpot

News - Overwatch's New Hero Jetpack Cat Has A Legendary Voice Actor Purr-Forming The
Jennifer Hale--most famously known for Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect trilogy--has been confirmed to voice Jetpack Cat in Overwatch. The flying feline is one of five new heroes coming to the game on February 10 for The Reign of Talon, Season 1. The Express Tribune reported that Hale will be providing the meows for Jetpack Cat in the newly renamed game, which is now just Overwatch by ditching the 2. The title change is part of a major overhaul of the online FPS. As for Hale (who also voices Ashe in the game), Overwatch audio and technical director Scott Lawson stated that "she did an incredible job, and working with it was so much fun." On X, Hale also expressed her excitement about voicing Jetpack Cat. The support character can heal and tow allies from the sky, thanks to the obvious jetpack. As for Jetpack Cat's ultimate ability, called Catnapper, the hero can plunge down to disrupt opponents, then tether one to throw off a ledge, for instance. Continue Reading at GameSpot
