Getting Hooked on Block Blast: A Simple Puzzle with Endless Appeal
Posted by: ZoeDrennan - 05-22-2026, 10:13 PM - Forum: Lounge - No Replies

Ever stumble across a game that seems simple on the surface, yet manages to keep you coming back for “just one more” round? That's how I feel about Block Blast. It's a puzzle game that's easy to pick up, but offers a surprising amount of strategic depth. In this article, I’ll share my experience and offer a few tips for anyone looking to get into it.

Introduction: What is Block Blast?

At its core, Block Blast is a block-fitting puzzle game, reminiscent of Tetris but with a static grid. The goal is simple: drag and drop the provided shapes onto the grid to create complete horizontal or vertical lines. When you complete a line, it disappears, freeing up space for more blocks. The game ends when you run out of room to place the offered blocks. Simple, right? Yet, the addictive quality stems from the constant push to clear more lines and achieve a higher score.

Gameplay: How it Works

The game presents you with three different shapes at a time, displayed at the bottom of the screen. You have to strategically drag and drop these shapes onto the grid above. Think carefully before you place a block, as you can't rotate them, and once placed, they're there to stay unless you clear the entire line they're part of.
The challenge comes from managing the available space effectively. Leaving gaps or poorly placed blocks can quickly lead to a game over. The scoring system is based on the number of lines you clear, with combos (clearing multiple lines at once) awarding bonus points. Some variations of the game also include special blocks that can clear specific areas or trigger special events, adding another layer of complexity.

Tips for Mastering the Blocks

While Block Blast seems straightforward, here are a few tips I've found helpful to improve my score:

  • Plan Ahead: Don't just focus on the block you're currently placing. Consider the shapes you have coming up and how they might fit into the overall picture. Think several moves ahead.
  • Prioritize Complete Lines: It’s tempting to fill up areas sporadically, but always aim to create complete horizontal or vertical lines as quickly as possible. This maximizes your score and clears valuable space.
  • Leave Room to Breathe: Avoid completely filling areas, even if it seems tempting. Leaving a few empty spaces allows for greater flexibility when placing larger or oddly shaped blocks.
  • Consider Corner Placement: Corners can be tricky to fill, but they can also be strategically valuable. Use smaller blocks to fill them in when you have the opportunity.
  • Don't Be Afraid to Pass: If the offered blocks are particularly unhelpful or will clog up your grid, sometimes it's better to strategically wait for the next set, although there may be a penalty for doing so depending on the game variant.

Conclusion: Simple Fun, Enduring Appeal

Block Blast is a testament to the idea that a game doesn't need to be complex to be engaging. Its simple mechanics, combined with its strategic depth, make it a surprisingly addictive and enjoyable puzzle experience. Whether you're looking for a quick distraction or a game to challenge your spatial reasoning, Block Blast is definitely worth a try. Give it a shot and see if you can beat my high score!

News - Upcoming Open-World RPG Has “Potato” Graphics Setting Below Even Minimum

Indie-RPG Outward 2 is releasing on Steam early access on July 7, and developer Nine Dots Studio wants to make sure you know that even if your PC is an ancient-potato rig, the game will run just fine.

In a new video announcing the co-op survival RPG's release date and system requirements, Nine Dots revealed the game looks great on max settings with at least a GeForce RTX 40780 and 32GB of RAM. But what Nine Dots really wants people to know is how it runs on some of the worst settings imaginable, and it has delivered.

If you are somehow still rocking a GeForce GTX 750 TI with only 8 GB, you're in luck, as Outward 2 comes equipped with a "potato" settings preset that is even below the "very low" settings found in the game's minimum system requirements.

Potato Specs For Outward 2

  • Avg Performance - 1280 x 720 @ 30FPS

  • GPU - GeForce GTX 750 TI

  • CPU - FX 6300 x 6

  • RAM - 8GB

What does that look like in motion, exactly? Surprisingly decent. As detailed by Nine Dot's "new tech guy," Mister Potato, Outward 2 looks to run fairly well on even the lowest of low settings. The video even shares a look at the game running in "couch potato" co-op mode. You can check out the full spec breakdown below. The open-world RPG will be holding a closed beta from May 26 to June 8, one where players will get to check a new region not featured in previous playtests.

No Caption Provided

Unlike many other power-fantasy-focused RPGs, Outward 2 makes clear players are not superhumans or magically gifted chosen ones. Instead, players will pick an origin and starting location. From there they'll embark on an adventure to seek out trainers and learn new skills, having to carefully manage their inventory and supplies along the way.

Combat isn't about being more powerful, but about careful preparation, as players will need to use potions, traps, spells, and other gear to gain an upper hand. Defeat will mean having to live with the consequences, as the game's auto-saving will discourage save scumming, with Nine Dot promising players will need to "live with their failures" and the "scars of defeat." It all sounds like a punishing, but rewarding journey, albeit one that will perhaps be made a little more manageable by the fact that the entire game can be played in online or split-screen co-op.

Nine Dot hasn't yet detailed how the early-access version of Outward 2 will differ from the finished product, with many players on the game's subreddit seeming blindsided by the early-access announcement. If nothing else, players can at least take solace in the fact that even the lowliest of PCs will be able to handle the adventure.

News - Nintendo Announces New Mobile Game That Turns Your Selfies Into Minigames

Nintendo has a new mobile game on the way, which will turn your selfies into quirky WarioWare-esque minigames. The game is called Pictonico!, and will release on May 28 for Android and iPhone.

Pictonico! was co-developed by Intelligent Systems, the studio behind the WarioWare series of games, and that influence is clear from the minigames Nintendo has teased so far. The main difference is that Pictonico’s minigames pull faces from your photos, warping real people into its absurd minigames.

When setting up the game, you can either snap a photo in the moment or pull an existing picture from your gallery--meaning friends, family, or even your favorite celebrities could be subjected to the indignity of starring in a WarioWare-style game.

Pictonico! will feature 80 minigames at launch, and is described by Nintendo as “free-to-start.” Free play is limited to just a few minigames, with the rest of the games available to purchase in two separate sets. Volume 1 will cost $8, while Volume 2 goes for $6--refreshingly offered as a single purchase, not an ongoing subscription.

There will be multiple ways to play Pictonico!, from a stage-based progression mode, to the “Score Attack” challenges that include increasing difficulty, a high speed mode, and a sudden death challenge.

Pictonico! is set to release on May 28 on both Google Play and the App Store.

News - This Giant Hellboy Collection Includes Over 100 Comics Written And Illustrate
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 05-20-2026, 07:05 PM - Forum: Lounge - No Replies

News - This Giant Hellboy Collection Includes Over 100 Comics Written And Illustrate

Mike Mignola is one of the most celebrated modern comic writers and illustrators, best known for creating Dark Horse's iconic demonic paranormal investigator, Hellboy, and the rest of the B.P.R.D. (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) extended universe. His dark and imaginative universe now spans several decades, and knowing where to start can be an intimidating task for newcomers. However, for a limited-time, you can grab over 100 digital edition comics and graphic novels from Mignola's catalog for just $35 or less thanks to Fanatical's limited-time Hellboy: Mike Mignola's Masterpiece Collection. The bundle deal includes Big Red's entire mainline story, as well as plenty of spin-off and supplemental one shots from throughout the B.P.R.D. (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) extended universe and beyond. These are all digital comics delivered in PDF format that you can read on just about any device including phones, tablets, eReaders, and PCs, so if you've been wanting to jump into Hellboy this is a great opportunity while both not breaking the bank or taking up shelf space.

As with many other of Fanatical's bundles, this impressive Hellboy collection offers variable pricing. The basic bundle includes four digital comics for just $1. You'll get the collected trade paperback edition of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D 1952 and the first issues of Frankenstein: New WorldShadow of the Golden Crane, and The Serpent in the Garden. At just $1, this is great introduction to not only Hellboy as a character, but to Mignola's much larger supernatural world he's created. However, there are three more tiers with even more content if you want to delve even deeper.

The next bundle tier includes 25 comics for $15. You'll get what's included in the $1 bundle, as well as all 10 B.P.R.D. Omniubus Editions, as well as the remaining Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. 1953-1957 volumes, and the first TPB volumes for Joe GolemSir Edward Grey: Witchfinder, and Baltimore.

Then, the third tier doubles the previous price up to $30, but you get 60 more comics for a total of 85. Everything from the previous two bundles is included here, but we delve even deeper into Mignola's catalog and get introduced to even more new characters and storylines, including one of Mignola's best-known works from outside the Hellboy universe, The Amazing Screw-on Head and Other Curious Objects: 20th Anniversary Edition. Other highlights added in this tier include Koshchei the DeathlessRasputin: The Voice of the Dragon, and The Sword of Hyperborea.

Finally, the if you pay $35, you'll unlock the full 118-item bundle, which gets you just about every mainline run from the Hellboy/B.P.R.D. extended universe and much more. Considering this is a $1,158.82 total value, the price of entry is extremely reasonable. You'll of course receive everything listed in the previous three tiers, with even more side stories and spin-offs available for you to read through. This tier even includes an entire additional collection, The World According to Hellboy Bundle, which includes the entire mainline Hellboy storyline that spans Hellboy Volumes 1-12 and Hellboy in Hell Volumes 1 and 2, as well as mini-series and one-shots like Hellboy in LoveHellboy: The Silver Lantern Club, and so much more. Combined with all the other books in the deal, that's over 11,700 pages of comics at one of the lowest prices we've seen for such a collection.

Be sure to check out the collection's Fanatical page the full lineup of included books. All the digital comics purchased in the bundle are delivered in DRM-free PDF format that you can read on just about any device including phones, tablets, eReaders, and PCs, so if you've been wanting to jump into Hellboy this is a great opportunity while both not breaking the bank or taking up shelf space.

Disclosure: GameSpot and Fanatical are both owned by Fandom.
