News - Destiny 2 Is Getting Last Content Update Soon As Bungie Moves Onto Its Next B
Nearly nine years after its release, live service support for Destiny 2 is coming to an end. Bungie has announced that it plans to release the last content update for the online shooter on June 9, 2026.
In a blog post, Bungie explained that after the game's last big expansion, The Final Shape, it felt that it had reached time on the stories it wanted to tell with Destiny 2. Content for Destiny 2 had been trickling in at a slower pace after Bungie focused more on releasing its extraction shooter, Marathon, with more time now being spent on determining what the studio's next game will be.
"As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games," the post reads. "To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio."
Bungie has reassured fans that Destiny 2 won't be going offline, with the studio planning to continue supporting it to ensure it remains playable and welcoming to new and old players alike. The blog post did not specify if previously vaulted content would be returning, however.
Bungie's latest title, the PS5 and PC shooter Marathon, is being significantly changed soon with the introduction of a PvE mode, in an attempt to attract players that might not be as enthusiastic about the game's highly competitive PvP action. Bungie was acquired by Sony in July 2022 for $3.6 billion, with the PlayStation 5 manufacturer shifting its strategy away from live service titles significantly since then.

Embracer Group will split itself into two separate companies--Fellowship Entertainment and Embracer--in 2027, with the former maintaining the majority of the publisher's biggest video game IP. While Fellowship Entertainment will have a large focus on franchises like Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raiders, there will apparently be room for some of the company's other titles to thrive as well.
Embracer's chair of the board Lars Wingefors told investors that it will be seeking partners to work on some of Fellowship's "other well-known IP such as Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, TimeSplitters," and more. Wingefors added that the company sees potential in teaming up with partners on some of its AAA franchises as well, including Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dead Island, Darksiders, Remnant, and Metro.
Dark Horse Comics--which was purchased by Embracer in 2022--will play a role in utilizing the company's IP, and Embracer's announcement noted the publisher's "long track record of co-producing film and TV shows with partners in Hollywood."
As part of Embracer's investor presentation, Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer Warhorse Studios revealed that it's working on an open-world Middle-earth RPG set in the Lord of the Rings franchise. Warhorse also noted that it's developing a new Kingdom Come adventure, but didn't share many details beyond that.
One of Embracer's next big titles is the return of its Metro franchise. This winter, Metro 2039 will revive the series after a seven-year hiatus by introducing a new main character. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC,

Continuing shortly after the events of Mortal Kombat, the sequel sees the battle for Earthrealm finally begin. Outworld emperor Shao Kahn will stop at nothing to win the Mortal Kombat tournament so that he can finally invade Earth, and it's up to a handful of chosen champions to step up and thwart the tyrant's schemes. Mortal Kombat 2 features an expanded cast with new and familiar faces in the roster.
