PLACEMENT CONVERSION

The Placement Conversion section can be used to efficiently convert GTA IV world object placements from Windows Placement List (WPL, PC) to Xenon Placement List (XPL, Xbox 360) and Cell Placement List (CPL, PS3) or from Xenon Placement List (XPL, Xbox 360) and Cell Placement List (CPL, PS3) to Windows Placement List (WPL, PC).

To convert a file, open it by clicking the respective button (Console or Windows) or drag and drop your file onto the respective button to open. Once the file is open, you'll see the name of the file in place of the "OPEN" text. Convert your file by clicking the relevant "Convert to..." button below. You'll then be asked where to save your new file, select a location, click "Save" and that's it - file converted.

You can also convert in batch by clicking the respective "Open..." button and selecting multiple files. You'll be prompted to choose an output
folder. Your files will then be converted and saved there. If converting from PC to console, you'll be asked to select Xbox 360 or PS3 first. The progress bar will keep track of conversions with a large number of files.

EDITING TOOLS
Editing Tools are a collection of tools used to work with placement editing. Currently only streamed placements are compatible, these are the placements named with "_stream(number)" or "_strbig(number)" in their name, such as queens_e_stream4.wpl or queens_e_strbig3.wpl. These tools support exporting placements files to a readable and editable CSV and also reimporting from a CSV back to a placement file. The included Placement Editor can read, edit and save these files, so no need for external software such as Excel or Notepad.

"Create CSV from Placement" allows you to open a Windows, Cell or Xenon placement and export it as a CSV. This file can then be opened in the Placement Editor or other software that supports CSV files, such as Excel or Notepad.

"Create Placement from CSV" allows you to import a CSV file and convert it back to a Windows, Cell or Xenon placement file.

"Open Placement Editor" will open the included Placement Editor. This tool allows you to open a previously exported CSV and edit the contents of a placement in a grid.

To open a CSV, select the "Open CSV" button in the top right. The file will then be loaded into the grid below, ready for editing.

To save your edits to CSV, click the "Save CSV" button immediately to the right of the "Open CSV" button.

If you'd prefer make your edits in external software such as Notepad or Excel, click the "Open externally" button and the file will open in your default CSV-supported software.

With all this in mind, the editing process is:
1. Export from placement to CSV
2. Open the CSV in the Placement Editor
3. Make your edits
4. Save the file
5. Import the CSV back to placement
Done!

Placement Editor is used to directly edit GTA IV export CSVs. It supports the necessary features expected for editing placement data.

You can see file information such as the loaded file and path, as well as the number of object and vehicle entries in the footer. Click the file path to open in Windows Explorer.

Live Filtering is a feature added that filters placement entries as you type to allow for precise searching and focused editing.

You can also import saved trainer objects from objects.ini and it will be added as placement data with the correct LODs if supported.

For information on features and controls, press F1 or click the Information button while running Placement Editor.

PLACEMENT UTILITIES
Placement Utilities are a collection of handy tools that aim to make the editing process of placements easier.

Object Angle Calculator - When creating placements ingame, many scripts will give you an onscreen "heading" which shows the direction of an object or the player in degrees. With this tool you can enter the "heading" and get an exact directional output in DirX, DirY or quaternion, which the game engine uses internally for world object placement, this removes the need for manual lookups of directions and means you're not limited to basic angles.

NOTE: DirX, DirY is used for vehicles, quaternion is for objects.

Vehicle Colour Selector
- This tool allows you to select vehicle colours from the game's vehicle colour table for use in vehicle placements and provides a numeric output which you can then paste directly into a placement, rather than having to manually look up the colours and then have to manually type in the values for each colour one-by-one.

Simply select your desired colour for each vehicle section, then copy from the output box below. Each vehicle has up to four colour sections:
  • Primary (paint)
  • Secondary (paint)
  • Pearl (paint)/extra
  • Wheels/extra 2

Model Hash Reader - This tool simply converts from model name to model hash, or from model hash to model name. The game's placement files use hashes internally, NOT model names, so when editing a placement, if you're not using a tool that automatically converts on saving, it's important that you use hashes instead. With the tool, you can enter your desired model name and it will output the hash for you, so you don't have to manually look it up.

Converting from hash to model name isn't required and is included for convenience should there be a use case.

NOTE: The included Placement Editor converts from model name to hash automatically on saving, so Model Hash Reader isn't needed there.

Stream Calculator
- This tool calculates the best placement stream for you to use based on world XY coordinates. Previously it was trial and error in most areas as stream locations are mostly undocumented. Simply enter your XY coordinates (you can get these from a trainer in real time or by saving placed object coordinates with Simple Native Trainer) and the tool will output the best stream to use.

Stream Calculator also contains Placement Regions XREF. This is for cross referencing your XY coordinates with the game's internal map data.

NOTE: GTA IV can be funny with streams, sometimes they overlap when they shouldn't and in rare cases, if you're near the edge of a stream, your vehicle or object may not appear. If this happens, change the value of your coordinates just slightly and look out for a new stream in the stream output box. This is NOT an issue with the tool, this is caused by GTA IV's spaghetti code.

REMEMBER: If you're playing either TLaD or TBoGT, make sure to use the streams for those DLCs. Edits made to streams in the base game will be ignored if TLaD or TBoGT have their own.

Model Search
- This is as it says on the tin. Simply input what you'd like to search for and the tool will provide you with a list of models matching your query. Also includes a category view.

Junk Remover - Open an export CSV and remove models considered to be 'junk'. These objects serve no useful purpose ingame other than visual fidelity. Removing them tidies up the map and frees up valuable resources. Use cautiously.
  • Vehicle Colour Selector: Some colour names are misleading, but displayed colours are correct. Names mirror carcols.dat (Rockstar updated colours during development but not the labels).
If you encounter any trouble or bugs, please reach out on Discord (link below). More “Placement Utilities” and non-placement features are planned. Check Discord for newer releases and feel free to share feedback or suggestions.

Note: WXPL requires .NET 4.8.1 and Microsoft Edge WebView2. If they're not installed, they will be installed automatically via web installer. If you're offline, you can find offline installers in the Installers folder.
