With Switch’s Version 9.0.0 firmware update now well and truly out in the wild, it’s also time to give your controllers some TLC.

After updating to Version 9.0.0. ourselves this morning, we’ve noticed that all of our Joy-Con and Pro Controllers were also due for an update. Nintendo never actually provides any information on what its controller updates do, but it’s always worth having them up to date to avoid unnecessary issues going forward.

If you’re unsure on how to do this, we’ve written some quick steps for you below:

Joy-Con

1) Make sure the Joy-Con you wish to update are attached to the console.

2) From the Home menu, choose ‘System Settings’. Then choose ‘Controllers and Sensors’ from the left-hand side.

3) Scroll down to ‘Update Controllers’, press it, and let the console do its thing. Make sure to repeat all steps for all of your Joy-Con.

Pro Controller

1) Plug your Pro Controller into your Switch dock using the charging cable provided in the box. It connects to the USB ports found on the side of the dock.

2) Use the Pro Controller to navigate to the ‘System Settings’ option on the Home menu. Then choose ‘Controllers and Sensors’ from the left-hand side.

3) Choose ‘Update Controllers’ and your update should commence. Make sure to repeat all steps for all of your Pro Controllers.

Incidentally, the new Version 9.0.0. update has brought one noticeable difference to the controllers, with their hidden LED lights now finally having a function.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them below.
