We&#8217;ve seen monthly updates to the NES library and recently the welcome addition of a rewind feature. SNES games are the next logical step and we&#8217;re excited to see what Nintendo has in store (and if we can play in handheld mode with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/video_you_can_actually_play_games_with_the_nes_controllers_still_attached_to_your_switch\">two SNES pads strapped to our console<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll forgive you if this overdue arrival doesn\u2019t immediately get your hype nodes buzzing, though. With the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/09\/hardware_review_the_snes_classic_mini_is_the_perfect_link_to_the_past\">SNES Classic Mini<\/a>, the Virtual Console on Wii, Wii U <em>and<\/em> New Nintendo 3DS, plus the remakes and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/contra_anniversary_collection\">various<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/castlevania_anniversary_collection\">collections<\/a> we\u2019ve been treated to recently, there\u2019s hardly a shortage of ways to play 16-bit classics these days. Still, with SP versions of certain NES games (essentially save states that start you off in late game scenarios with commensurate powers), Nintendo has shown a willingness to be playful with its line up and there\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/08\/talking_point_nintendo_switch_onliners_appeal_is_growing_but_theres_a_long_way_to_go\">plenty of potential for the service<\/a> if the company is serious about making Switch Online essential.<\/p>\n<p>Here we\u2019ve collected together 12 SNES games we\u2019d like to see come to Nintendo Switch Online. The bottom line is that this is <em>possibly<\/em> our favourite Game Style in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_mario_maker_2\"><strong>Super Mario Maker 2<\/strong><\/a>, and it would be lovely to have the original on Switch. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/super_mario_all_stars\"><strong>Super Mario All-Stars<\/strong><\/a> would be another winner, although you can already play all those games in their NES guise with Nintendo Switch Online, so let&#8217;s not double up at this early stage, hmm?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/snes\/star_fox_2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/e3e5ad58c4aba\/star-fox-2-artwork.900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"Star Fox 2 (SNES)\"><a class=\"cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/star_fox_2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/df66ed6d1bf52\/star-fox-2-cover.cover_small.jpg\" alt=\"Star Fox 2 (SNES)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"list-hero-info\">\n<p><span>Publisher: <\/span><strong>Nintendo<\/strong> \/ <span>Developer: <\/span><strong>Argonaut Software<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"release\"><span>Release Date: <\/span><strong>29th Sep 2017 (<abbr title=\"United States \/ North America\">USA<\/abbr>)<\/strong> \/ <strong>29th Sep 2017 (<abbr title=\"UK \/ European\">UK\/EU<\/abbr>)<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This game sat completed in the vaults of Nintendo HQ for over two decades. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/star_fox_2\">Star Fox 2<\/a><\/strong> was canned at the last possible moment because Nintendo feared the SNES game would send the wrong message if it were to launch alongside the new Nintendo 64 system. Compared to that system, SNES&#8217; primitive polygons simply couldn&#8217;t compete despite the game being a remarkable technical achievement on the hardware. Many of Star Fox 2&#8217;s ideas would be recycled and put to work in what is arguably the series&#8217; pinnacle, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/n64\/star_fox_64\">Star Fox 64<\/a><\/strong>, but the original game would eventually get a surprise release on the Super Nintendo Mini Classic console. The jewel in the crown of the franchise, we know <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/metroid_prime_4\">Metroid Prime 4<\/a><\/strong> is on its way, and until Nintendo puts <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/wii\/metroid_prime_trilogy\">Metroid Prime Trilogy<\/a><\/strong> on the Switch, it&#8217;d be a shame if the only Metroid game Switch owners have access to is the original NES game. That one&#8217;s a classic, sure, but it can&#8217;t hold a candle to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/super_metroid\">Super Metroid<\/a><\/strong> and Switch owners need to brush up on their lore. Prior to this appearing on the Super NES Classic Edition, the SNES version of this game was stubbornly unavailable through any official channel beyond the original cartridge, with only the Game Boy Advance port showing up on Virtual Console. Nothing against that version &#8211; it&#8217;s a fine port given the system&#8217;s limitations &#8211; but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/super_mario_world_2_yoshis_island\"><strong>Yoshi&#8217;s Island<\/strong><\/a> deserves to be played on the largest canvas possible and we&#8217;d welcome it on Switch Online.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/snes\/legend_of_zelda_a_link_to_the_past\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/9c2ac519dd335\/legend-of-zelda-a-link-to-the-past-artwork.900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)\"><a class=\"cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/legend_of_zelda_a_link_to_the_past\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2871912c4a633\/legend-of-zelda-a-link-to-the-past-cover.cover_small.jpg\" alt=\"The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"list-hero-info\">\n<p><span>Publisher: <\/span><strong>Nintendo<\/strong> \/ <span>Developer: <\/span><strong>Nintendo EAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"release\"><span>Release Date: <\/span><strong>22nd Jan 2007 (<abbr title=\"United States \/ North America\">USA<\/abbr>)<\/strong> \/ <strong>23rd Mar 2007 (<abbr title=\"UK \/ European\">UK\/EU<\/abbr>)<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Well, we&#8217;ve done Mario and Metroid, so let&#8217;s get the last part of the Triforce of the Bleedin&#8217; Obvious out of the way. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_links_awakening\"><strong>The Legend of Zelda: Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/strong><\/a> is coming, but no-one in their right mind would turn down <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/legend_of_zelda_a_link_to_the_past\"><strong>A Link To The Past<\/strong><\/a> on Switch. It&#8217;s a seminal game that set a series template so strong that it lasted for over 25 years. You may think that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild\"><strong>Breath of the Wild<\/strong><\/a> wiped the slate clean and started afresh, but the truth is that this game&#8217;s fingerprints can be found in every last rock in the series&#8217; open world epic on Switch (and Wii U!), and it&#8217;s only fitting that players should be able to enjoy it on our favourite handheld hybrid, too. We&#8217;re going to have to stop calling it that when Switch Lite drops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/snes\/teenage_mutant_ninja_turtles_iv_turtles_in_time\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/d09c61799fae0\/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-iv-turtles-in-time-artwork.900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES)\"><a class=\"cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/teenage_mutant_ninja_turtles_iv_turtles_in_time\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/f9b58e3e49350\/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-iv-turtles-in-time-cover.cover_small.jpg\" alt=\"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"list-hero-info\">\n<p><span>Publisher: <\/span><strong>Konami<\/strong> \/ <span>Developer: <\/span><strong>Konami<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"release\"><span>Release Date: <\/span><strong>1992 (<abbr title=\"United States \/ North America\">USA<\/abbr>)<\/strong> \/ <strong>1992 (<abbr title=\"UK \/ European\">UK\/EU<\/abbr>)<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>What&#8217;s a 16-bit console without a classic arcade-style side-scrolling beat &#8217;em up? This tapped into the zeitgeist in the early &#8217;90s, but coming from Konami at a time when it seemed the company had trouble producing a <em>bad<\/em> video game, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/teenage_mutant_ninja_turtles_iv_turtles_in_time\"><strong>Turtles in Time<\/strong><\/a> matched the popularity of the licence with an impressive game to boot. This is an expensive cart to track down these days and despite tricky licensing issues, it&#8217;d be a treat to see it running on a Nintendo console again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/snes\/super_bomberman\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/01eb61ac413f3\/super-bomberman-artwork.900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"Super Bomberman (SNES)\"><a class=\"cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/super_bomberman\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/48f13f48d6476\/super-bomberman-cover.cover_small.jpg\" alt=\"Super Bomberman (SNES)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"list-hero-info\">\n<p><span>Publisher: <\/span><strong>Hudson Soft<\/strong> \/ <span>Developer: <\/span><strong>Hudson Soft<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"release\"><span>Release Date: <\/span><strong>10th May 1993 (<abbr title=\"United States \/ North America\">USA<\/abbr>)<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Classic Bomberman action on Switch with up to four players (or five, if you went for <strong>Super Bomberman 3<\/strong> instead)? That sounds like just the ticket! Of course, we&#8217;ve already got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_bomberman_r\"><strong>Super Bomberman R<\/strong><\/a>, which Konami has been supporting rather well since launch, but there&#8217;s nothing quite like the classic simplicity of the 16-bit versions. Thankfully, we wouldn&#8217;t need to use a Super Multitap this time round and it&#8217;d be great to have a game in the SNES Online line up that we could play with more than two players. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/super_bomberman\"><strong>Super Bomberman<\/strong><\/a>&#8216;s a riot and would make a worthy addition to the Switch Online service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/snes\/street_fighter_alpha_2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/street_fighter_alpha_2\/900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES)\"><a class=\"cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/street_fighter_alpha_2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/street_fighter_alpha_2\/cover_small.jpg\" width=\"150\" alt=\"Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"list-hero-info\">\n<p><span>Publisher: <\/span><strong>Capcom<\/strong> \/ <span>Developer: <\/span><strong>Capcom<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"release\"><span>Release Date: <\/span><strong>Nov 1996 (<abbr title=\"United States \/ North America\">USA<\/abbr>)<\/strong> \/ <strong>19th Dec 1996 (<abbr title=\"UK \/ European\">UK\/EU<\/abbr>)<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>We&#8217;ve chosen <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/street_fighter_alpha_2\">Street Fighter Alpha 2<\/a><\/strong> for the sake of variety. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/street_fighter_ii_turbo_hyper_fighting\">Street Fighter II&#8217; Turbo: Hyper Fighting<\/a><\/strong> is arguably the best entry on the SNES, but there are more than enough flavours of Street Fighter II floating around to satisfy all tastes. While not the best Street Fighter on the system, we&#8217;ve gone for Alpha 2 because squeezing it onto the Super Nintendo was a hugely impressive feat that deserves our admiration. It&#8217;s been a while since we&#8217;ve taken to its Mode 7 skies. The third game in the series, Fire Emblem didn&#8217;t <em>really<\/em> catch on in the west until much later, but the success of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/fire_emblem_three_houses\"><strong>Fire Emblem: Three Houses<\/strong><\/a> on Switch reconfirms the franchise&#8217;s popularity here following its revitalisation with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/3ds\/fire_emblem_awakening\">Fire Emblem: Awakening<\/a><\/strong> on 3DS. We would absolutely jump at the chance to play this or its follow-up, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/fire_emblem_geneology_of_the_holy_war\">Fire Emblem: Geneology of the Holy War<\/a><\/strong>, with a new localisation. It&#8217;s a lot to ask, yes, but if you don&#8217;t ask you don&#8217;t get, and Nintendo want to add value to the service; previously unreleased games would be a great incentive to stay signed up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>There we are &#8211; a varied bunch, we&#8217;re sure you&#8217;d agree! Obviously, this is a very select list &#8211; we&#8217;ve only chosen twelve games and even with heavy hitters from Mario, Metroid and Zelda, there are dozens of titles we could have added from the spectrum of classics the SNES hosted.
