{"id":944,"date":"2017-09-29T22:34:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-29T22:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/306810"},"modified":"2017-09-29T22:34:00","modified_gmt":"2017-09-29T22:34:00","slug":"watch-q-games-dylan-cuthbert-share-stories-of-coding-star-fox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2017\/09\/29\/watch-q-games-dylan-cuthbert-share-stories-of-coding-star-fox\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Q-Games&#8217; Dylan Cuthbert share stories of coding Star Fox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran game dev Dylan Cuthbert appeared today in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SnfUsRWtxCc&amp;list=PLIhLvue17Sd7izhrvC_tNfzrm6N1L_Vsv&amp;index=2\">latest episode<\/a> of Double Fine&#8217;s ongoing &#8220;Devs Play&#8221; series of design-focused Let&#8217;s Plays videos to\u00a0share game dev trivia about the making of the 1993 Super Nintendo game\u00a0<em>Star Fox<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth watching because while Cuthbert is now well-known as\u00a0the founder of Q-Games (<em>The Tomorrow Children<\/em>),\u00a0in the &#8217;90s he was working at Argonaut Software\u00a0as one of the core programmers on\u00a0<em>Star Fox\u00a0<\/em>and its canned sequel.<\/p>\n<p>This week Nintendo released its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/300545\/Nintendo_is_bundling_a_neverbeforereleased_game_with_the_SNES_Classic.php\">SNES Classic mini-console<\/a>, which counts both\u00a0<em>Star Fox\u00a0<\/em>and the never-released (before now)\u00a0<em>Star Fox 2<\/em>\u00a0among its library of 21 SNES games. To mark the occasion, Double Fine (in conjunction with 2 Player Productions) published the\u00a0video of Cuthbert telling stories about his time working on\u00a0<em>Star Fox\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Star Fox 2\u00a0<\/em>as someone else played through the original game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Devs who enjoy the video might want to check out its companion piece, another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-Wf2cn7fcD0&amp;list=PLIhLvue17Sd7izhrvC_tNfzrm6N1L_Vsv&amp;index=1\">Devs Play video<\/a> published today in which Cuthbert chats about working on the (Japan-only) 1992 Game Boy shooter game\u00a0<em>X,\u00a0<\/em>which is much akin\u00a0to\u00a0<em>Star Fox<\/em>.
