{"id":94202,"date":"2019-05-28T22:24:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-28T22:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/343504"},"modified":"2019-05-28T22:24:00","modified_gmt":"2019-05-28T22:24:00","slug":"overwatch-league-commissioner-nate-nanzer-leaving-blizzard-for-epic-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/05\/28\/overwatch-league-commissioner-nate-nanzer-leaving-blizzard-for-epic-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Overwatch League commissioner Nate Nanzer leaving Blizzard for Epic Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nate Nanzer is leaving his position as commissioner of the <em>Overwatch<\/em> League to join up with <em>Fortnite<\/em> dev Epic Games.<\/p>\n<p>He broke the news about his departure in a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/natenanzer\/status\/1132105982606077952\">tweets<\/a> last week, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/esports\/story\/_\/id\/26815521\/overwatch-league-commissioner-nanzer-join-epic-games\">ESPN<\/a> later reported that his reason for leaving was to work with Epic Games on the competitive side of <em>Fortnite<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to share that soon I will be leaving Blizzard for a new opportunity,\u201d wrote Nanzer. \u201cThis has been the toughest decision of my life, because it means I won\u2019t get to work with the best staff, players, teams, owners, partners, and fans in esports anymore. I can\u2019t emphasize enough how proud I am of what we\u2019ve all accomplished together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nanzer was one of the minds behind Blizzard\u2019s <em>Overwatch<\/em> League, a competitive esports circuit that mimics the structure and city-driven format of traditional sports leagues. He started with Blizzard&nbsp;in 2014, and had served as the VP and commissioner of the league since early 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Pete Vlastelica, president and CEO of Activision Blizzard Esports Leagues, is set to take over&nbsp;Nanzer&#8217;s duties&nbsp;at Blizzard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nate Nanzer is leaving his position as commissioner of the Overwatch League to join up with Fortnite dev Epic Games.
