{"id":93549,"date":"2019-05-08T15:56:38","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T15:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gamefromscratch.com\/post.aspx?id=ee4e43a5-b1bd-485d-897d-d4bade4b5738"},"modified":"2019-05-08T15:56:38","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T15:56:38","slug":"microsoft-net-5-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/05\/08\/microsoft-net-5-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft .NET 5 Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the <a href=\"https:\/\/mybuild.techcommunity.microsoft.com\">MSBuild 2019<\/a> developer conference, Microsoft made a pretty huge announcement about the future of .NET.&nbsp; With the release of .NET 5, there will be one .NET, that is cross platform and open source.&nbsp; Essentially .NET Core, .NET Framework and Xamarin will all be replaced with a single unified .NET 5 framework.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/introducing-net-5\/\">this blog post<\/a> Microsoft discuss the future of .NET 5, as well as how we got here and how it will impact developers.&nbsp;&nbsp; The core (pun intended) of .NET is:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Produce a single .NET runtime and framework that can be used everywhere and that has uniform runtime behaviors and developer experiences. <\/li>\n<li>Expand the capabilities of .NET by taking the best of .NET Core, .NET Framework, Xamarin and Mono. <\/li>\n<li>Build that product out of a single code-base that developers (Microsoft and the community) can work on and expand together and that improves all scenarios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This isn\u2019t going to happen overnight however.&nbsp; Here is the announced timeline of developments:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamefromscratch.com\/image.axd?picture=coresched.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"904\" height=\"501\" title=\"coresched\" alt=\"coresched\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/microsoft-net-5-announced.png\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This means in November of 2020, there will be just one version of .NET available for all platforms.&nbsp; With the release today <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/announcing-net-core-3-0-preview-5\/\">of .NET Core 3.0 Preview 5<\/a>, that seems to be the ideal platform to develop .NET applications in anticipation of .NET 5.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sKtyPT6kz-0&#038;w=853&#038;h=480]<\/p>\n<p class=\"under\"> <span class=\"categories\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamefromscratch.com\/category\/GameDev-News.aspx\">GameDev News<\/a><\/span> <span class=\"tags\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamefromscratch.com\/?tag=\/C%23\" rel=\"tag\">C#<\/a><\/span> <\/p>\n<hr>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the MSBuild 2019 developer conference, Microsoft made a pretty huge announcement about the future of .NET.&nbsp; With the release of .NET 5, there will be one .NET, that is cross platform and open source.&nbsp; Essentially .NET Core, .NET Framework and Xamarin will all be replaced with a single unified .NET 5 framework.
