Select the <strong>Layers<\/strong> panel and create two layers. You can adjust the curvature of the corners by pressing the\u00a0<strong>Up Arrow\u00a0<\/strong>or the\u00a0<strong>Down Arrow\u00a0<\/strong>on your keyboard whilst creating the shape (clicking and dragging with the mouse).<\/p>\n<p>With the shape still selected, change it to a fill shape.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post_image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Use the Rounded Rectangle Tool to create a shape\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-assets.tutsplus.com\/uploads\/users\/403\/posts\/31649\/image\/chess-pawn-round-rectangle.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Step 5<\/h3>\n<p>Duplicate the shape by copying it\u00a0<strong>(Control-C)\u00a0<\/strong>and then paste it into place\u00a0<strong>(Control-Shift-V)<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Add a stroke to the second shape with a width of\u00a0<strong>20 pt<\/strong>. With the duplicate icon, use the\u00a0<strong>Selection Tool (V)\u00a0<\/strong>or the\u00a0<strong>Direct Selection Tool (A)\u00a0<\/strong>to remove the top shapes (the horse head) of the icon.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post_image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Delete the horse head from the duplicate icon\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-assets.tutsplus.com\/uploads\/users\/403\/posts\/31649\/image\/chess-bishop-remove-head.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Step 2<\/h3>\n<p>Use the\u00a0<strong>Ellipse Tool (L)\u00a0<\/strong>and hold the\u00a0<strong>Shift<\/strong> key<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>on the keyboard to create a perfect circle on top of the icon.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post_image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Add a circle using the Ellipse Tool\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-assets.tutsplus.com\/uploads\/users\/403\/posts\/31649\/image\/chess-bishop-circle.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Step 3<\/h3>\n<p>Use the\u00a0<strong>Direct Selection Tool (A)\u00a0<\/strong>to move the top point of the circle slightly upwards. With the duplicate icon use the\u00a0<strong>Selection Tool (V)\u00a0<\/strong>or the\u00a0<strong>Direct Selection Tool (A)\u00a0<\/strong>to remove the top and middle shapes of the icon.<\/p>\n<p>This will leave just the two circles at the bottom and the semicircles on the sides.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post_image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Duplicate the Bishop icon and delete the middle shapes\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-assets.tutsplus.com\/uploads\/users\/403\/posts\/31649\/image\/chess-queen-delete.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Step 2<\/h3>\n<p>Rotate the semicircles slightly. To do this,\u00a0<strong>Right-Click\u00a0<\/strong>on the shapes, and then go to\u00a0<strong>Transform &gt; Rotate<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>following the image below.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post_image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Rotate the semi circles\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-assets.tutsplus.com\/uploads\/users\/403\/posts\/31649\/image\/chess-move-shapes.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Step 3<\/h3>\n<p>Use the\u00a0<strong>Ellipse Tool (L)\u00a0<\/strong>to create two circles, with the outer circle using a stroke and the inner circle using a fill. When using the <strong>Pen Tool<\/strong>, you can hold the<strong> Shift <\/strong>key on the keyboard in order the draw a straight line vertically or horizontally. This will make it easier to align.<\/p>\n<p>From there, use the <strong>Direct Selection Tool (A)<\/strong> to select the curve points (hold\u00a0<strong>Shift<\/strong>\u00a0to select multiple points) and move the points towards the centre with the mouse to transform the corners into curves.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post_image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Use the Pen Tool and edit the curve points to create the crown\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-assets.tutsplus.com\/uploads\/users\/403\/posts\/31649\/image\/chess-queen-curve-crown.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Step 7<\/h3>\n<p>Complete the queen icon by placing the crown on top of the shapes, as shown in the image below.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post_image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Combine all the shapes to create the final Queen Icon\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-assets.tutsplus.com\/uploads\/users\/403\/posts\/31649\/image\/chess-queen-final.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h2>\n<span class=\"sectionnum\">9.<\/span>\u00a0How to Create a King Icon<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1<\/h3>\n<p>To create the king icon, duplicate the queen icon.
