{"id":90996,"date":"2019-03-28T20:40:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T20:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/339672"},"modified":"2019-03-28T20:40:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T20:40:00","slug":"hyper-light-drifter-dev-confirms-tv-series-is-in-the-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/03\/28\/hyper-light-drifter-dev-confirms-tv-series-is-in-the-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyper Light Drifter dev confirms TV series is in the works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Hyper Light Drifter<\/em> is&nbsp;receiving its own TV show&nbsp;led&nbsp;by developer&nbsp;Alx Preston and producer Adi Shankar, who is best known for creating the Netflix adaptations of <em>Castlevania<\/em> and upcoming <em>Devil May Cry<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is another example of video games being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/326325\/Remedys_Alan_Wake_is_being_adapted_for_TV.php\">adapted for television<\/a>, but it will be interesting to see how the two creatives will interpret a game with no dialogue for a new, non-interactive medium.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Preston confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/tv\/2019\/3\/28\/18285664\/hyper-light-drifter-tv-series-alx-preston-adi-shankar\">Polygon<\/a> that he and Shankar&nbsp;are actively in development on the&nbsp;animated series based on <em>Hyper Light Drifter<\/em>,&nbsp;developed&nbsp;by his indie studio Heart Machine back in 2016 for consoles (and arriving to Switch in 2018).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p id=\"T08d0O\">\u201cThe difference between a series and a game is vast in a lot of ways,\u201d Preson tells&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/tv\/2019\/3\/28\/18285664\/hyper-light-drifter-tv-series-alx-preston-adi-shankar\">Polygon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Hyper Light<\/em>&nbsp;as a game was pretty atmospheric and kind of overbearing at times. For a series, the question is: how do you sustain and keep your attention on a non-interactive run? Does it get really, really dark and serious?
