{"id":90735,"date":"2019-03-26T19:48:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-26T19:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/339435"},"modified":"2019-03-26T19:48:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-26T19:48:00","slug":"judgment-has-sold-through-97-of-stock-following-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/03\/26\/judgment-has-sold-through-97-of-stock-following-controversy\/","title":{"rendered":"Judgment has sold through 97% of stock following controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sega chief creative officer Toshihiro Nagoshi&nbsp;confirmed that&nbsp;<em>Judgment<\/em>&nbsp;sold through roughly&nbsp;97 percent of its stock since the company&nbsp;halted sales&nbsp;of the game, and worldwide inventory is almost gone as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As reported and translated&nbsp;by <a href=\"https:\/\/gematsu.com\/2019\/03\/judgment-sold-through-about-97-percent-of-stock-reports-of-sequels-inaccurate\">Gemastu,<\/a>&nbsp;Nagoshi&nbsp;also clarified that there are currently no plans for developing sequels for&nbsp;<em>Judgment,&nbsp;<\/em>despite reports saying they have been decided.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to clearing up&nbsp;rumors, Nagoshi&nbsp;also provided his take on&nbsp;Pierre Taki, the Japanese voice actor and character model for character&nbsp;Kyohei Hamura.<\/p>\n<p>Taki&nbsp;was pulled&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/338552\/Sega_pulls_Judgment_from_sale_in_Japan_following_drug_arrest.php\">from the game<\/a> after admitting to illegal drug use, with Sega following up by removing&nbsp;<em>Judgment&nbsp;<\/em>for sale&nbsp;in Japan.&nbsp;Rather than doing the same in the West, the company will&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/339188\/Sega_removing_actor_from_Western_version_of_Judgment_after_drug_scandal.php\">remove Taki <\/a>from the game before it releases on June 25.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was surprised to hear Pierre Taki was arrested.&nbsp;After that we started discussing how to deal with the problem,&#8221; Nagoshi said. &#8220;We decided to halt the game\u2019s sales fairly quickly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For those that are unfamiliar, Japan has incredibly strict laws around illegal drug use, resulting in similar punishments for celebrities and actors who have been charged with possession&nbsp;in the past.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no correct way to deal with the situation. In the end, I also cast my vote for halting sales,&#8221; Nagoshi&nbsp;admitted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some thought and pointed out &#8216;This is going too far&#8217;&nbsp;and &#8216;It\u2019s unrelated to the game itself,&#8217;&nbsp;and I don\u2019t think those opinions are unreasonable either\u2014I can see it from both sides.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So when it comes to why I voted for halting sales, it\u2019s because it was just after release. If it was an older game released a considerable amount of time ago, our priorities may have been different, but when it was something that had been released only several months prior, I think it\u2019s a different conversation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m bummed that it sold like there was a last-minute surge in demand,&#8221; Nagoshi&nbsp;continued. &#8220;It reached number three on Amazon\u2019s sales rankings. But I did kind of think, &#8216;Why didn\u2019t you just buy from the start?'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Of course I\u2019m glad in any case. Sell-through was about 97 percent.
